George Murdoch (born February 21, 1980) is an American professional wrestler, better known by his ring name, Brodus Clay. He is signed to WWE, where he wrestles on its SmackDown brand and its developmental territory Florida Championship Wrestling. He was the runner-up on the fourth season of ''NXT''.

Early life

Murdoch grew up in foster care, along with his brother. Prior to becoming a professional wrestler, Murdoch worked as a bodyguard for Snoop Dogg.

World Wrestling Entertainment (2006–2008)

Deep South Wrestling (2006–2007)

After signing a contract with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), Murdoch was assigned to Deep South Wrestling (DSW), a WWE developmental territory. He debuted in September 2006, and began using the ring name G-Rilla along with adopting the gimmick of a gangsta thug. In his first match for the promotion, he defeated Big Bully Douglas in a dark match on September 7. The following month, he became the enforcer for Urban Assault, a tag team composed of Eric Pérez and Sonny Siaki. On December 14, Urban Assault was joined by Afa Jr., and the following week, Perez, Siaki, and Afa Jr. attacked Murdoch, throwing him out of the group. The same month, Murdoch wrestled in two dark matches against Scotty 2 Hotty at SmackDown! house shows while using his real name, winning the first but losing the second. In early January 2007, G-Rilla feuded with Urban Assault, attacking the members during matches. He then formed a tag team with the Freakin' Deacon, with the pair defeating Urban Assault in their first match together. They went on to defeat teams including Frankie Coverdale and Bob Hoskins, the Samoan Fight Club of Siaki and Afa Jr., Shawn Osborne and Jon Bolen, and Robert Anthony and Johnny Curtis. In March, they faced and defeated the DSW Tag Team Champions, Team Elite (Mike Knox and Derrick Neikirk) in two successive non-title matches.

Florida Championship Wrestling (2007–2008)

In June 2007, Murdoch was moved to the Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW) develiopmental territory. He made his debut at FCW's inaugural show on June 26, using the name G-Rilla and defeating Shawn Osborne. Three months later, on September 15, G-Rilla won a battle royal to become the number one contender to the FCW Southern Heavyweight Championship by last eliminating Teddy Hart. He challenged Harry Smith for the championship on September 25, but lost via disqualification which meant that Smith retained the championship. The following month, G-Rilla continued to feud with Smith and Hart, who had formed The Hart Dynasty with TJ Wilson and Ted DiBiase, Jr., allying himself with Osborne, Jake Hager and Afa, Jr. G-Rilla briefly formed a tag team with Robert Anthony in December 2007, but on February 4, 2008, Murdoch was released from his contract with WWE.

Return to WWE (2010–present)

In January 2010, Murdoch re-signed with WWE and was assigned to FCW. In March, Murdoch, once again using the name G-Rilla, formed an alliance with The Uso Brothers, Tamina, and Donny Marlow. He went on to defeat both Jacob Novak and Rudy Parker, before changing his ring name to Brodus Clay, a play on Snoop Dogg's real name (Calvin Cordozar Broadus), in May 2010. in May 2010. On June 16, Clay and Marlow challenged Los Aviadores (Hunico and Epico) for the FCW Florida Tag Team Championship, but were unsuccessful. That same month, Clay and Marlow began referring to themselves as The Colossal Connection. The Colossal Connection challenged Los Aviadores for the FCW Florida Tag Team Championship again on July 1, and won by disqualification when The Usos interfered, allowing Los Aviadores to retain the championship. Later that same night, The Colossal Connection defeated The Usos by disqualification to become the number one contenders to the FCW Florida Tag Team Championship after Los Aviadores interfered. On August 6, The Colossal Connection competed in a four-way elimination match for the FCW Florida Tag Team Championship, but Los Aviadores won to retain their title. At the television tapings on August 12, Johnny Curtis and Derrick Bateman won a three-way tag team match over The Colossal Connection and Los Aviadores to win the FCW Florida Tag Team Championship. Clay and Marlow unsuccessfully challenged Curtis and Bateman for the championship throughout August and September. In October, Clay appeared at a WWE house show, where he lost to JTG.

''NXT'' (2010–2011)

During the finale of season three of ''NXT'', it was announced that Clay would be part of the fourth season, with Ted DiBiase and Maryse, as his mentors. He made his in-ring debut on ''NXT'' on the December 14, 2010, episode, teaming with DiBiase to defeat Byron Saxton and his mentor Chris Masters. He suffered his first loss the following week, when he, DiBiase, and Maryse were defeated by Saxton, Masters, and Natalya in a six-person mixed tag team match. Clay won a four-way elimination match on the January 25 episode of ''NXT'', earning the right to choose a new Pro. He picked Alberto Del Rio as his new pro, and then attacked DiBiase. The following week, Clay defeated DiBiase in a singles match. On the February 8 episode of ''NXT'', Clay won both a match and a challenge to earn three immunity points, his first of the season. Both he and Johnny Curtis were tied on immunity points at the end of the show, and an audience vote determined that Curtis was immune from elimination. Clay survived when Byron Saxton was eliminated. In the season finale on March 1, Clay ended the competition in second place, losing out to Curtis.

SmackDown (2011)

On the March 7 episode of ''Raw'', Clay debuted as Del Rio's new bodyguard and replaced him in his match against Christian in a losing effort. As Del Rio was feuding with Edge and Christian, Clay faced off with single matches against them and also teamed with Del Rio to face Edge and Christian. Clay accompanied Del Rio to the ring at WrestleMania XXVII. On the April 25 edition of ''Raw'', Del Rio was drafted to Raw, while Clay remained on SmackDown. Clay's final appearance with Del Rio occurred on May 1 at Extreme Rules, when he interfered on Del Rio's behalf as Del Rio faced Christian in a ladder match for the vacant World Heavyweight Championship. Despite this, Del Rio was unsuccessful in winning the match.

Clay returned after a three month absence due to the filming of ''No One Lives'' on the August 4 episode of ''Superstars'', where he beat a jobber named Pat Silva. During the next few weeks, Clay would continue to squash various jobbers on ''Superstars''.

Brian Myers (born April 20, 1985) is an American professional wrestler, better known by his ring name Curt Hawkins. He is currently signed to WWE working on its Raw brand. For the majority of his career, Hawkins teamed with Zack Ryder, and they won several tag team championships together, including the WWE Tag Team Championship.

Professional wrestling career

New York Wrestling Connection (2004–2006)

After being trained by Mikey Whipwreck, Myers made his debut in 2004, using his real name. He wrestled for the New York Wrestling Connection (NYWC) promotion, and on June 4, 2005, he teamed with Bret Matthews to win the NYWC Tag Team Championship when they defeated Dickie Rodz and Mason Raige. They held the championship until August 27, when they were defeated The Dead Presidents (Boogalou and Low – Ryda). Myers and Matthews regained the championship on January 25, 2006, by defeating Team Tremendous (Dan Barry and Ken Scampi), and held the championship for two months before losing it to The B.S. Xpress (Tony Burma and Mike Spinelli) on March 26.

World Wrestling Entertainment / WWE (2006–present)

Developmental territories (2006–2009)

On February 24, 2006, Brian Myers signed a developmental contract with World Wrestling Entertainment. He was given the ring name Brian Majors and teamed up with his former tag team partner Bret Matthews, who was renamed Brett Majors, to form the tag team the Majors Brothers. Together they won the Deep South Wrestling DSW Tag Team Championship on two occasions. They later won the OVW Southern Tag Team Championship once.

ECW and SmackDown

The team was moved from the developmental league to the main roster, changing their last names from "Majors" to "Major". The team worked on WWE's ECW brand. The team won their debut match, but failed to win any consecutive matches in either singles or tag team competition following their debut on the brand. They moved from ECW to SmackDown! on June 17, 2007, as the eighth pick in the 2007 Supplemental Draft. On SmackDown the team had only slightly more success than on the ECW brand, defeating the team of Chavo Guerrero and Jamie Noble. On November 9, 2007, they received a tag title match after winning a number one contender's battle royal, but could not defeat the champions, Montel Vontavious Porter and Matt Hardy.

At Armageddon, the duo dressed up like Edge and interfered in the World Heavyweight Championship match, replacing Edge at several points along the match to help him win the title and thus turning heel for the first time in their WWE career. On December 21, 2007, the Major Brothers were revealed as acquaintances to Edge and his lover, SmackDown General Manager Vickie Guerrero. The Major Brothers were repackaged and renamed as Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder, with Brian Major becoming "Curt Hawkins" and Brett Major now "Zack Ryder". Hawkins and Ryder were also, occasionally referred as "The Rated-R Entourage" by commentators Michael Cole and John "Bradshaw" Layfield (JBL). Occasionally, the pair teamed with their mentor Edge and/or their "La Familia" associate Chavo Guerrero on ''SmackDown'' on several occasions.

At The Great American Bash on July 20, 2008, Hawkins and Ryder won the WWE Tag Team Championship from John Morrison and The Miz in a fatal four-way match which also featured Jesse and Festus and Finlay and Hornswoggle after Hawkins pinned Jesse. Their victory meant that they were the youngest tag team champions in WWE history. At SummerSlam, La Familia seemed to have ended when a returning Undertaker sent Edge to Hell and then refused to forgive Vickie – prompting all the members to abandon Vickie, who would later align with Big Show. On the September 26, 2008 airing of ''SmackDown'', Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder lost the titles to Carlito and Primo Colón in their first televised title defense.

On April 15, 2009, Ryder was drafted back to the ECW brand as part of the 2009 Supplemental Draft, separating the team.

Florida Championship Wrestling (2009–2010)

Following the draft, Hawkins would spend months on hiatus from television before voluntarily leaving the main roster and going to Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW) for more training. He made his debut losing to Dawson Alexander. In the following weeks, Hawkins would go on to win an 8-man battle royal to become the number one contender for Justin Angel's FCW Florida Heavyweight Championship but subsequently lost the championship match. He would later join a stable called "The Dude Busters" alongside Caylen Croft and Trent Barreta on November 1, 2009. In late November, Hawkins and Croft won the FCW Florida Tag Team Championship. While they were champions, Croft and Hawkins would defend the title with Barreta via the Freebird Rule. On January 14, 2010 at an FCW television taping, The Dude Busters lost the FCW Florida Tag Team Championship to The Fortunate Sons (Brett DiBiase and Joe Hennig).

Return to SmackDown (2010–2011)

Hawkins returned to the SmackDown roster in May 4, 2010, forming a tag team with Vance Archer defeating Chasyn Rance and JT Talent in a dark match. They made their television debut as a team on the May 13 edition of ''WWE Superstars'', defeating two local competitors. After the match, Hawkins stated that he and Archer had been given a 30-day contract to "make an impact". The team made its ''SmackDown'' debut on the May 21 episode, winning another squash match. In an attempt to make an impact, the duo attacked Montel Vontavious Porter and Christian on consecutive episodes of ''SmackDown'' on June 4 and June 11, which they followed up on by defeating both in a tag team match on June 18. The next week the duo was officially named "The Gatecrashers". The pair also competed in a battle royal on the June 4 episode of ''SmackDown'' to replace The Undertaker in the World Heavyweight Championship fatal four-way match at Fatal 4-Way. Hawkins was one of the four final participants in the match, but was eliminated by the eventual winner, Rey Mysterio. After their 30-day contract expired, they were signed to new long-term contracts in storyline. The team came to an end on the October 7 airing of ''Superstars'' after a match between Archer and Chris Masters. Archer accidentally struck Hawkins outside the ring after which the two argued and a distracted Archer lost the match. Afterwards, Hawkins assaulted Archer.

Hawkins moved to singles competition the following week, defeating Trent Barreta. A rivalry then began between the two shortly after, with Barreta getting the win on the November 18 edition of ''Superstars''. In a rematch the next week, Hawkins defeated Barreta, claiming Barreta's win the week before was a fluke. On March 8, Hawkins lost to Shelton Benjamin in a dark match prior to the Smackdown tapings.

Raw (2011)

On April 26, Hawkins was drafted to the Raw brand as part of the 2011 Supplemental Draft.

In other media

Hawkins appeared on the 22nd episode of ''Z! True Long Island Story'', claiming that he was responsible for stealing Zack Ryder's camera, and on the 23rd episode as a special referee in a match between The Ultimate Broski (which in reality is Hawkins' best friend, Zack Ryder) and The Ultimate Warrior.

Heath Miller (born July 15, 1983) is an American professional wrestler working for WWE. He performs on the SmackDown brand under the name Heath Slater. He was a contestant in the first season of ''WWE NXT'', where he finished fourth. He is a former FCW Florida Heavyweight Champion and three-time WWE Tag Team Champion, with Justin Gabriel.

Professional wrestling career

Training and independent circuit (2004–2006)

While growing up in West Virginia, Miller participated in backyard wrestling. Miller trained under Curtis Hughes at the WWA4 Pro Wrestling School before debuting in 2004. While training, he appeared on a two-part episode on the sketch comedy show ''Blue Collar''. He soon began competing in Northeastern independent promotions, including NWA Wildside. While wrestling for NWA Wildside, Miller won the GCW Columbus Heavyweight Championship after defeating Scott Beach in 2004. In mid-2005, Miller began wrestling for NWA Anarchy. He debuted in a tag team match on July 2, when he and Randall Johnson were defeated by the Urban Assault Squad. Miller and Johnson formed a regular tag team in the promotion, going on to lose to teams including Alabama Attitude in August, Three Guys That Totally Rule (Seth Delay and Patrick Bentley) in September, Jeremy V and Jason Blackman in October, before earning their first win on October 29, by defeating the team of Skitzo and Brett Thunder. The following week, they lost to the team of V and Blackman for the second time in their final appearance for the promotion. In December 2005, Miller debuted for Great Championship Wrestling (GCW) in Georgia, losing to Jaki by disqualification on December 10. In April 2006, Miller formed a tag team with Eric Watts, and the pair went on to defeat the team of Cru Jones and Shawn Banks twice in succession. The following month, Miller unsuccessfully challenged Scotty Beach for the GCW Television Championship. In July, Miller adopted the nickname "The Thriller", and on July 22, Miller forfeited the GCW Columbus Heavyweight Championship to Bobby Sanford. In September, Miller formed a tag team with former rival Scotty Beach. Miller's final appearance in GCW was on December 13, when he lost to Legion Freakin' Cage.

World Wrestling Entertainment / WWE (2006–present)

Developmental territories

In December 2006, Miller signed a developmental contract with World Wrestling Entertainment, and was assigned to Deep South Wrestling (DSW), a WWE developmental territory. When the WWE ended its relationship with DSW in the spring of 2007, Miller was one of over twenty developmental wrestlers to be sent for further training at the new Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW) territory. At a June 2007 FCW show, Miller appeared as the manager of fellow developmental talent Shawn McGrath under the name "Heath Wallace Miller Esq." However, Miller reverted to using his real name and resumed his singles career while continuing to manage McGrath.

In 2007, Miller was given a talk show called the "Happy Hour" during some FCW shows. During one segment, Billy Kidman was the guest; Miller claimed to idolize Kidman but then commented that Kidman's career was declining. This created a feud and led to a series of matches between the two. In January 2008, Miller started defending the FCW Southern Heavyweight Championship on behalf of the champion Ted DiBiase, Jr., who was injured. DiBiase soon forfeited the belt and Miller was declared the champion.

Miller and his tag team partner Steve Lewington lost to John Morrison and The Miz for the WWE Tag Team Championship on February 15, 2008 at an FCW show. Miller and Lewington then advanced to the finals of a tournament for the inaugural FCW Florida Tag Team Championship in February 2008. Miller and Lewington defeated Brandon Groom and Greg Jackson and The Thoroughbreds (Johnny Curtis and Kevin Kiley) to reach the finals. On February 23, 2008, Miller and Lewington lost to The Puerto Rican Nightmares (Eddie Colón and Eric Perez) in the finals. On September 11, teaming with Joe Hennig, he won the FCW Florida Tag Team Championship. As champion, he would change his ring name to "Sebastian Slater". On October 30, 2008, Slater and Hennig lost their tag titles to The New Hart Foundation (Harry Smith and TJ Wilson) in Tampa, Florida. He returned from injury in the 26 episode of FCW where he defeated Justin Angel. On August 13, 2009, at the 50th FCW TV taping, Miller defeated Tyler Reks to become FCW Heavyweight Champion. Miller lost the FCW Heavyweight Championship to Justin Gabriel in a two out of three falls match at the September 24, 2009 TV taping.

''NXT'' (2010)

On February 16, 2010, Slater was announced as one of eight FCW wrestlers to compete on the first season of the ''WWE NXT'' show, with Christian as his storyline mentor. On the inaugural episode of ''NXT'', Slater won his debut match as he and Christian defeated Carlito and Michael Tarver in a tag team match. Two weeks later, Slater defeated Carlito, becoming the first NXT rookie to beat a WWE pro in a singles match. On the March 30 episode of ''NXT'' he came fourth out of eight rookies in the first Pros' Poll. On the April 6 episode, Slater won a keg-carrying contest against all other rookies. This resulted in him being in the main event that night, a match against Kane, that he lost. In an upset victory on April 20, Slater defeated Chris Jericho in the main event of ''NXT''. However, Slater remained at fourth in the second Pros Poll, revealed on May 11. He was eliminated from ''NXT'' on May 25, coming in last in the Pros' Poll.

The Nexus and The Corre ; teaming with Justin Gabriel (2010–2011)

On the June 7 episode of ''Raw'', Slater and the other season one ''NXT'' rookies turned heel by interfering in the main event match between John Cena and CM Punk, attacking both competitors, the announcing team and Justin Roberts, the ring announcer, before dismantling the ring area and surrounding equipment. On the June 14 episode of ''Raw'' the rookies (excluding Daniel Bryan who had been released) attacked General Manager Bret Hart, when he refused to give them contracts. At the Fatal 4-Way pay-per-view, the seven rookies interfered in the WWE Championship match, as a result costing Cena the championship. The following week on ''Raw'', Vince McMahon fired Hart and announced the hiring of a new General Manager, who had signed the seven season one ''NXT'' rookies to contracts. The following week, the group was named The Nexus. On the July 12 episode of ''Raw'', The Nexus competed in their first match together, without Darren Young, a six–on–one handicap match against John Cena, which they won when Gabriel pinned Cena. The Nexus continued to feud with Cena and the Raw roster, resulting in a seven-on-seven elimination tag team match at SummerSlam. Cena's team won when Cena eliminated Gabriel and then Barrett to win the match.

In October 2010, Cena was forced to join The Nexus as a result of losing to Barrett at Hell in a Cell, and at the following pay-per-view, Cena and Otunga won the WWE Tag Team Championship. On the October 25 episode of ''Raw'', Barrett made a tag team match, with Justin Gabriel and Slater facing Otunga and Cena for the championship. Gabriel and Slater won when Barrett ordered Otunga to allow Slater to pin him, becoming the new Tag Team Champions. Gabriel and Slater held the championship for nearly two months, before losing it to Santino Marella and Vladimir Kozlov in a four-way elimination match also involving The Usos and Mark Henry and Yoshi Tatsu on the December 6 episode of ''Raw''. Gabriel and Slater received a rematch for the championship at the TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs pay-per-view on December 19, but lost by disqualification when Nexus member Michael McGillicutty interfered.

On the January 10, 2011, episode of ''Raw'' Gabriel and Slater refused to take part in new Nexus leader CM Punk's initiation and walked away from the group.

The following day, at the tapings of the January 14 eisode of ''SmackDown'', Gabriel and Slater helped their former leader Wade Barrett and Ezekiel Jackson attack Big Show. The following week, Gabriel, Slater, Barrett, and Jackson announced they had formed The Corre, and later that night Gabriel defeated World Heavyweight Champion Edge in a non-title match, following interference from the other members of The Corre. After winning a non-title match against the champions Kozlov and Marella on the February 4 episode of ''SmackDown'', Gabriel and Slater received a match for the WWE Tag Team Championship two weeks later, but lost via disqualification when the other members of The Corre interfered. They received a rematch at the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view on February 20 and defeated Marella and Kozlov to win the WWE Tag Team Championship for the second time.

The following night on ''Raw'', Gabriel and Slater lost the championship to John Cena and The Miz, but won the championship back minutes later after Barrett invoked The Corre's rematch clause, and The Miz turned Cena on. During this time, The Corre had continued to feud with The Big Show, and at WrestleMania XXVII in April the team of The Big Show, Kane, Santino Marella, and Kofi Kingston defeated The Corre. At the April 19 taping of ''SmackDown'', the duo of Gabriel and Slater lost the Tag Team Championship to the team of Kane and The Big Show. In a backstage segment following the match, Gabriel was attacked by Slater, who thought Gabriel blamed him for their loss.On the May 6 episode of SmackDown, Gabriel, Barrett, and Slater attacked Jackson, removing him from the group. On the June 10th edition of SmackDown, when Barrett walked out on Gabriel and Slater in a 6-man tag team match against Jackson and The Usos, Gabriel and Slater told Barrett later backstage that The Corre was over.

They would start a feud with The Usos. On the June 17th edition of SmackDown, Gabriel and Slater, with new music, were defeated by The Usos, later defeating them in a rematch on the June 24th edition. The next day he together with Slater were announced for the Smackdown Money in the Bank match in Chicago, Illinois. They were again defeated by The Usos on the July 8th edition, having a visible disagreement and argument in the ring following the match.

Singles competition (2011-Present)

On the July 15 edition of ''SmackDown'', Slater started a feud with Gabriel when he verbally berated him saying that Gabriel was holding him down. That same night, Slater lost to Gabriel after receiving a 450° splash. At Money in the Bank on July 17, he and Gabriel participated in the SmackDown Money in the Bank ladder match, which was won by Daniel Bryan. Vickie Guerrero (born Vickie Lara; April 16, 1968) is an American professional wrestling personality, manager, shifting authority figure and occasional wrestler. She is the widow of the late professional wrestler Eddie Guerrero, currently signed to WWE on its Raw brand. She had previously been on the SmackDown brand, where she served as the Official Consultant to SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long. She had also served as acting general manager, but was storyline fired after Teddy Long returned on Smackdown's 600th episode to reclaim the General Manager position.

Career

World Wrestling Entertainment/ WWE (2005–present)

Eddie's death and early feuds (2005–2006)

In 2005, Vickie Guerrero began to make cameo appearances during the feud between her husband Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio, which had escalated when Eddie promised to reveal a secret concerning Mysterio's son, Dominick. Vickie was on the July 14 episode of ''SmackDown!'' with two of Eddie's three daughters to stop Eddie from revealing Mysterio's secret. Eddie promised not to reveal the secret should he lose to Mysterio at The Great American Bash, though that turned out to be another one of his character's trademark lies, as Eddie revealed that Dominick was really his biological son. Vickie later reappeared at SummerSlam to convince Eddie to put a stop to his war with Mysterio and not to go through with the "Custody of Dominick" ladder match that night. When that failed, she cost him the match by pushing over the ladder he was on as he was about to win. On November 13, 2005, Eddie Guerrero died of heart failure in his Minneapolis hotel room and was found by his nephew Chavo. On-screen, this led to Rey Mysterio, Eddie's real-life friend, getting more screen time and higher profile matches, including defeating Kurt Angle and Randy Orton at WrestleMania 22 for the World Heavyweight Championship.

In 2006, approximately seven or eight months after Eddie's death, Vickie started appearing more prominently in more controversial storylines. She first asserted herself during a feud between Mysterio and Chavo Guerrero when Chavo accused Mysterio of being "nothing but a leech living off the blood of the Guerrero name" on the August 4 episode of ''SmackDown!''. Subsequently, she acted as peacemaker between the two former friends until she seemingly inadvertently interfered in their match at SummerSlam in 2006, costing Mysterio the match. She then officially betrayed him by siding with Chavo and hitting Mysterio in the back with a steel chair on the following episode of ''SmackDown!'', becoming a heel in the process. On the September 1 edition of ''SmackDown!'', she declared herself Chavo's business manager and Mysterio an "insignificant chapter" in her past. At No Mercy, Chavo lost to Mysterio in a Falls Count Anywhere match. On October 20, Rey Mysterio lost an "I Quit" match against Chavo after interference from Vickie.

On October 27, 2006, Chris Benoit became involved in the storyline. He tried to figure out what Vickie was doing with Eddie's estate while also defending the WWE United States Championship in a rivalry with Chavo. At Survivor Series, Chavo kicked out of an attempted sharpshooter, causing Benoit to knock Vickie off the ring apron and on her head, causing her to begin to wear a neck brace and blame Benoit for "intentionally" hitting her. At the end of December, she interfered in a US Championship match between Chavo and Benoit, which caused Chavo to lose and Benoit to retain the title. As a result, Chavo shouted "If you wanted me to win the title, then stop getting me disqualified," before pushing Vickie over.

SmackDown! General Manager and Feud with Theodore Long (2007–2009)

In May 2007, Kristal, the on-screen girlfriend of General Manager Theodore Long, convinced him to give Guerrero an interview for the position as his assistant. A week after the interview, Vickie was given the job. On the June 29 edition of ''SmackDown!'', Vickie acted as interim general manager of ''SmackDown!'' while Long was planning his wedding with Kristal. She was soon named the maid of honor at Long and Kristal's "wedding". On the September 21 edition of ''SmackDown!'', from Long's hometown of Atlanta, Georgia, Long suffered a kayfabe heart attack during his wedding to Kristal before they had legally wed. The following week, Vince McMahon named Vickie the new General Manager. On the November 23 edition on ''SmackDown!'', she "punished" Edge for his interference in the championship match at the Survivor Series by making him the number one contender for the World Heavyweight Championship, before revealing that she had begun a romantic relationship with him and had facilitated his "plan" to regain the belt. Later in the night, as she stood alone in the ring, after watching Chavo be attacked by the Undertaker. He performed a Tombstone Piledriver on Vickie. After being off-air for several weeks, she returned on December 14 as a villain and in a wheelchair, making biased matches in favor of Edge which led to him winning the World Heavyweight Championship at Armageddon.

In early 2008, she formed La Familia with her nephew Chavo, Edge, the team of Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder, and later, Bam Neely. One of her first acts as part of the new group was to help Chavo win the ECW Championship from CM Punk. At the Royal Rumble, Vickie interfered in the World Heavyweight Championship match between Edge and Rey Mysterio, allowing Edge to retain his title. On the subsequent airing of ''SmackDown'', Edge proposed to Vickie, who accepted, but the event was interrupted by Mysterio. After Vickie had helped Edge to retain his championship for almost 4 months, he eventually dropped the title to The Undertaker. This started a feud between Edge and the Undertaker, with Vickie giving Edge numerous title opportunities and placing The Undertaker in difficult matches. On the May 2 edition of ''SmackDown'', she stripped The Undertaker of his championship after deciding that his new gogoplata (dubbed Hell's Gate) submission hold was too dangerous and made a match between The Undertaker and Edge for the vacant title with the stipulation that Undertaker would be banished from the WWE if he lost. Following interference, Edge won the match and Vickie 'banished' Undertaker. However, Edge lost his title shortly afterwards to CM Punk. On the July 4 edition of ''SmackDown'', Edge took his frustrations for losing the World Heavyweight Championship out on Vickie by telling her the wedding was off. The next week, however, Edge re-proposed to Vickie after ''SmackDown!'' had gone off the air. On July 18, at the wedding reception (the wedding had occurred off-screen before the show) Triple H came out and showed a video of Edge cheating on Vickie the day before with Alicia Fox, the wedding planner. The storyline continued at The Great American Bash when Fox attempted to hand Edge the WWE Championship belt to use as weapon, but was stopped with a clothesline by Vickie. Edge attempted to spear the referee to delay the match, but hit Vickie instead. Triple H used this distraction to recover and hit a Pedigree to retain his title. On the July 25 edition of ''SmackDown'', Edge attempted to get Vickie to forgive him, but instead she announced the return of his former enemy The Undertaker, whom Edge would face at SummerSlam in a Hell in a Cell match. This started a slight face turn for Guerrero. A few weeks later, as revenge, Edge attacked the members of La Familia and tipped Vickie from her wheelchair. The Undertaker refused to accept her apology for his banishment, but Vickie stated that she was not afraid of him. She also stated that at Unforgiven, she would force him to apologize to her, but at Unforgiven when The Undertaker did not comply, the Big Show knocked him out and Vickie spat in his face. This turned Vickie back to a heel. Big Show then aligned himself with Vickie, and for the next two weeks they continued to gloat at how they beat The Undertaker. After Undertaker attacked Chavo, Vickie pleaded with Undertaker for forgiveness for her actions. Undertaker, however, once again hit her with a Tombstone Piledriver, forcing Vickie to rely on both a neckbrace and a wheelchair again. Over the following weeks, Vickie put the Undertaker in matches against the Big Show that seemed impossible for him to win. The feud ended after Big Show lost to Undertaker in a casket match.

At Survivor Series, during a match for the WWE Championship between the champion Triple H and Vladimir Kozlov, Vickie came out to the arena making the announcement that "he's here". Edge's music was then played and he came out to compete, making it a triple threat match. At the end, he won the championship, and as he went to the back, he greeted Vickie with a hug. On the December 5 edition of ''SmackDown'' they shared a kiss, thus reinstating their on-screen relationship. On the special December 8 edition of ''Raw'', Vickie and Edge won a Slammy Award for the Couple of the Year.

Raw General Manager and departure (2009)

On February 23, 2009, she was appointed the interim General Manager of ''Raw'' during Stephanie McMahon's absence. On the following edition of ''Raw'', Guerrero announced that Edge would be facing The Big Show for his World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania XXV. On the March 9 edition of ''Raw'', John Cena showed footage of Vickie cheating on Edge with The Big Show after Guerrero had added Cena to the World Heavyweight Title match through blackmail of revealing the secret affair, making it a triple threat in the process. At WrestleMania XXV, Edge lost the World Heavyweight Title to Cena after Cena pinned Show after Cena delivered the Attitude Adjustment to Edge onto the Big Show. On the April 6 edition of ''Raw'', Guerrero was given the choice of either being General Manager of ''Raw'' or ''SmackDown''. She then announced that she would move to ''Raw'' in order to become its new General Manager, subsequently resulting in her being separated from Edge. However, The Big Show and her nephew Chavo were also moved to ''Raw'' during the 2009 WWE Draft and Supplemental Draft, respectively.

After being insulted for a few weeks by being made fun out of her weight by Santino Marella, Vickie, with help from William Regal, won the "Miss WrestleMania" crown from Santina Marella, Santino's "twin sister", in a no disqualification match sanctioned by Chavo on the May 18 edition of ''Raw''. On June 7 at the Extreme Rules pay-per-view, Vickie lost her "Miss WrestleMania" title to Santina in a hogpen match with Chavo Guerrero by her side. The following night on ''Raw'', Vickie announced her resignation as Raw's General Manager. After her announcement, Edge came out and told Vickie that he was sorry for saying disrespectful things about her, only to reveal that he only married her so she could help him in World Championship matches, and now that she quit, she was useless to him in his endeavors to become the champion again. He then told Vickie that he wanted a divorce, leading to her suffering from a nervous breakdown. In reality, Vickie had requested to leave the WWE so that she could spend more time with her family.

Return to SmackDown and Alliance with LayCool & Dolph Ziggler (2009–2011)

Guerrero returned to WWE on the ''SmackDown'' 10th Anniversary special episode on October 2, where she introduced her storyline boyfriend, then-heel, Eric Escobar, who she would be managing on the SmackDown brand. On the November 20 episode of ''SmackDown'', Guerrero was named as a ''SmackDown'' consultant by WWE Chairman Vince McMahon. The following week after Escobar failed to capture the Intercontinental title from John Morrison, Vickie lost it and ended their relationship. Escobar claimed that he can't take it any more because he only went out with her for power, mirroring what Edge admitted as to why he married Vickie on the June 8 edition of ''Raw''. Guerrero then put him in a handicap match with The Hart Dynasty the following week and the week after put him in another handicap match against Chris Jericho and The Big Show. The storyline was soon dropped when Escobar was released by the WWE. Guerrero began involving herself in the already heated rivalry between WWE Women's Champion Mickie James and Michelle McCool and Layla, taking the sides of Team Lay-Cool after Mickie accidentally doused her with cottage cheese. On the February 26 edition of ''SmackDown'', Guerrero acted as Special Guest Referee for a title match between James and McCool, ultimately costing James the title after slapping her. Two weeks later she got involved in a match between WWE Women's Champion Michelle McCool and Tiffany causing Tiffany to win the match by DQ. After the match, Michelle McCool and Layla began to beat down Tiffany until Beth Phoenix made the save, in the process, delivering a clothesline to Vickie Guerrero. two weeks later, Guerrerro appeared, in a 5-on-1 handicap match with Alicia Fox, Maryse, and Team LayCool, against Beth Phoenix. Guerrero mainly hid behind Alicia Fox, Maryse, and Team LayCool, letting her partners do the dirty work until Phoenix was weakened and Guerrero made the pin, winning the match. It was announced after that she would compete in a ten diva tag team match at WrestleMania. At the WrestleMania XXVI 10-Diva Tag Match, Guerrero's team was victorious when Guererro herself climbed the turnbuckle and gesturing to the sky connected a "frog splash" in an apparent tribute to her late husband Eddie. Only this time, her feud with Beth Phoenix became obvious. On April 2, Phoenix and Tiffany defeated Michelle McCool and Layla, who had Guerrero in their corner. On the May 10 edition of ''Raw'', Guerrero was named the permanent general manager of the Raw brand for the second time, but then resigned on the same night after being intimidated by Randy Orton. Although not the general manager, she returned to SmackDown as the Consultant that Friday on May 14 and forced Phoenix to face Team Lay-Cool in a handicap match, which Layla won to achieve her first WWE Women's Championship.

In June she began a romance storyline with Dolph Ziggler and began accompanying him to the ring. On the August 31 episode of WWE NXT, it was announced that Vickie Guerrero would be the pro originally for the rookie Aloisia in the Season 3 Diva's edition of NXT, but due to certain circumstances, Aloisia was sent to FCW, one of WWE's developmental territories and was later released. Vickie was assigned a new NXT rookie, Kaitlyn which she begin a feud with. On October 5, she was defeated by Kaitlyn in a rookie vs pro match. Kaitlyn was caught backstage kissing Vickie's boyfriend Dolph, which added more fuel to the fire. On the November 5, 2010 edition of SmackDown, Guerrero tickled Kaitlyn when she pinned her with her foot on the bottom rope. Kaitlyn went on to win NXT and later joined SmackDown.

Feud with Edge and Kelly Kelly (2011)

In January, she became the acting General Manager of SmackDown after Theodore Long was found unconscious backstage. At the Royal Rumble pay-per-view, Kelly Kelly attacked Guerrero during the Edge vs. Dolph Ziggler match. On the February 4th episode of SmackDown, Ziggler and Lay-Cool lost to Edge and Kelly in a two-on-three handicapped mix tag match for the World Heavyweight Championship. At the end of the match, Guerrero fired Kelly, and announced a championship match will be commenced between Edge and Ziggler, and announced that Guerrero will be the special guest referee of the match. On the following week, while officiating the world championship match, she attempted to use the spear but failed to use it to Edge and kay-fabe injuring her ankle. While Vickie was down, Clay Matthews of the Green Bay Packers replaced Vickie as referee. While she was down, Edge speared Ziggler even though the spear was still banned but it should not have been banned. Edge won the match but a laid down Vickie insisted that Edge did not retain the title. On Smackdown's 600th episode the following week, she stripped Edge for the title and fired him. Later that night, there was a coronation for Dolph Ziggler as World Heavyweight Champion. However, the returning Theodore Long revealed that he was once again in charge and that Vickie and Dolph were the culprits behind his assault, thus making an impromptu match between Dolph and a reinstated Edge for the World Heavyweight Championship, in which Edge won. After the match, Long fired Dolph (kayfabe) from the WWE. As a result of Dolph being fired, his spot in the World Heavyweight Championship Elimination Chamber match at the upcoming Elimination Chamber event was vacated. At the event, Big Show was revealed as his replacement. On the February 25, 2011 edition of SmackDown, Theodore Long announced that a match would take place with Edge and Kelly Kelly facing Vickie and Drew McIntyre. Vickie lost the match, and was then fired (kayfabe) from her role as official consultant by Teddy Long. After being fired by Teddy Long, Vickie Guerrero appears in FCW show along with her daughter.

Return to Raw (2011–present)

On the March 7, 2011 edition of ''Raw'', Guerrero and Ziggler made their return to the brand, with Vickie managing him in a singles match defeating John Morrison. After the match, the anonymous ''Raw'' General Manager informed Vickie that Dolph Ziggler had indeed been hired, but they did not hire her yet. The general manager then continued by issuing a match between her and Trish Stratus for the following week, with the stipulation being if Vickie wins, she would be hired. The following week, Vickie defeated Trish in a No Disqualification match with the help of team Lay-Cool.

Right after defeating Stratus in the No Disqualification match, Guerrero challenged Stratus, John Morrison, and that week's ''Raw'' guest star Snooki, who had slapped Guerrero earlier in the night, to a six person mixed tag team match against Lay-Cool and Ziggler at WrestleMania XXVII in which the trio accepted. On the March 21, 2011 edition of ''Raw'', Guerrero, LayCool, and Ziggler lost to Stratus and Morrison in a 4-on-2 handicap match. At WrestleMania XXVII, Vickie Guerrero's team of Lay-Cool and Ziggler were defeated by Snooki, Stratus, and Morrison.

While still being the manager and kayfabe "girlfriend" of Dolph Ziggler since the loss at WrestleMania XXVII, Vickie appeared as Tyson Kidd's manager for the June 9, 2011 edition of ''Superstars'', only for Kidd to be defeated by Yoshi Tatsu. During this time period, Kidd had been looking for a manager to lead him to success, giving chances to several past and present WWE talents. This was the only time Guerrero had managed Kidd, and went on to continue her storyline involvement with Ziggler.

At the Capitol Punishment PPV, Dolph Ziggler won the United States Championship from Kofi Kingston, with the help of Guerrero. On the next nights edition of ''Raw'', Ziggler retained the championship from Kingston by disqualification. On the same night, Vickie would then go on to lose the dance contest to Michael Cole, despite Cole receiving the most boos. Even after kissing Matt Striker while dancing, Cole would go on to win via impersonation.

In August, Vickie sought out a new client in Jack Swagger, but she argued with Dolph later on.

Personal life

Vickie married Eddie Guerrero after three years of dating. Together they had two daughters. Their first daughter Shaul Marie Guerrero (born October 14, 1990). and Sherilyn Amber Guerrero (born 1995)Eddie Guerrero also had another daughter; Kaylie Marie Guerrero (born 2002) with a woman named Tara Mahoney. He was separated from Vickie at the time, however Eddie had split from Tara before Kaylie was born. He reconciled with Vickie soon afterward, and they renewed their wedding vows.

Darren Kenneth Matthews (born May 10, 1968), is an English professional wrestler and color commentator currently signed to WWE and competing on the SmackDown brand under the ring name William Regal. He is also known for his time in World Championship Wrestling under the ring name Steven Regal. Having started his career wrestling on the carnival circuit in England, Matthews moved on to wrestle around the world in countries such as Germany and South Africa, before being called up to World Championship Wrestling in 1993. In 2000, after being once again fired from WCW, Matthews joined the World Wrestling Federation (now World Wrestling Entertainment), where he became commissioner. More recently he has been General Manager of Raw and also the 2008 King of the Ring.

Never been a world champion, Matthews has, nonetheless, achieved considerable championship success in professional wrestling. Throughout his career, he has won more than 60 titles worldwide, including 4 in WCW and 15 in WWE. He has overcome multiple drug problems as well as a major heart defect during his career, and he has written an autobiography, ''Walking a Golden Mile''.

Professional wrestling career

Early years (1983–1992)

Matthews was born in Codsall Wood, Staffordshire, England, United Kingdom, before moving with his family to London. Matthews made his ring debut wrestling in carnivals and on the North Pier of Blackpool at the age of fifteen. He wrestled professionally all over England, where he regularly teamed with Robbie Brookside, before going to the United States in 1992. He wrestled his first few matches under the name Roy Regal before settling on the name Steve Regal, a name he saw in an American wrestling magazine (in use by "Mr. Electricity" Steve Regal). Both Regal and Brookside appeared on ''World of Sport'' in several matches that were televised.

World Championship Wrestling (1992–1998)

Matthews started in World Championship Wrestling (WCW) as Steve Regal, beginning as a face character. He became the villain Lord Steven Regal in 1993, claiming descent from William the Conqueror. At times arrogantly charming in this persona, one of his memorable statements to a post-match interviewer was, "Do you know what my New Year's resolution is going to be? To wake up a half an hour earlier so I can hate you more."

Bill Dundee served as his manager under the name Sir William, and he won the World Television Championship four times. He teamed up with fellow aristocrat Jean-Paul Levesque, but after Levesque left WCW, he was replaced by Alabama-born Bobby Eaton. Regal formed the team The Blue Bloods and was involved in humorous vignettes where he tried to teach Eaton the finer points of dining and the proper usage of the Queen's English. He renamed him "Earl" Robert Eaton and soon added "Squire" David Taylor to the team. They came close to winning the WCW Tag Team Titles, but never did.

During his stint in WCW, Regal faced Antonio Inoki at Clash of the Champions on August 28, 1994. Regal also had a match with Shinya Hashimoto for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship. On February 9, 1998, Regal had a match with Bill Goldberg on ''Monday Nitro'', in which he appeared more aggressive and stiff than expected with the then-rising star. It was later revealed that most of Regal's moves on Goldberg were shoot-style moves, which caught Goldberg off-guard at the time. It was rumored that WCW management was upset with Regal because, even though he did job to Goldberg as expected, he was supposed to lose to Goldberg in a squash, like most of Goldberg's other competitors at the time, as opposed to actually keeping the match competitive. However, in his autobiography, Regal disputes this.

World Wrestling Federation (1998–1999)

Regal's initial appearance in the World Wrestling Federation was on the June 29, 1998 edition of ''Raw Is War'', in which he defeated Droz via submission with the Regal Stretch. Regal was not seen on WWF television again until he returned that fall with a "Real Man's Man" builder/lumberjack style looking gimmick that was based on the image of The Brawny Man. Vignettes for the character showed him doing "manly" things like chopping wood, shaving with a plain razor, and squeezing his own orange juice. After he made his full-time debut in October 1998, he faced X-Pac in the opening round of the tournament for the vacant WWF World Championship at the Survivor Series, ending in a double countout and thus eliminating both men from the tournament. Regal then began a feud with The Godfather, but was taken off television soon after before subsequently checking into rehab in January 1999 and was released from the WWF in April.

Return to World Championship Wrestling (1999–2000)

After checking out of rehab, Matthews was invited back into the wrestling world, making a somewhat brief return to WCW as Lord Steven Regal. His official pay-per-view return took place during Bash at the Beach in 1999 where he was one of many participants in the first ever Hardcore Invitational. On ''Nitro'' the following night, Regal, accompanied by both Fit Finlay and Dave Taylor, fought Billy Kidman. The fans reacted as if Regal had never left and straight after the bell began chanting "USA! USA!". Despite outside help from Finlay and Taylor, Regal was unable to pick up the win. Two weeks later he faced Mikey Whipwreck. Jimmy Hart's First Family came out to challenge The Blue Bloods at Road Wild for the Hardcore Trophy, causing Regal to lose the match. Nothing came of this challenge as neither the First Family or the Blue Bloods were featured on the Road Wild card. Similar to his previous run, much of Regal's performances took place in tag team bouts. He continued his role as a rule breaking villain and had small feuds with teams such as the Filthy Animals. In late February 2000, Regal faced off in a Career vs. Career match against "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan on ''Saturday Night'' for the Television Title. Regal lost the match and was again released.

Return to World Wrestling Federation/Entertainment (2000–present)

Commissioner (2000–2001)

Regal was once again hired by the WWF and sent to the developmental territory Memphis Championship Wrestling for a short time. After a match with Chris Benoit at the Third Annual Brian Pillman Memorial Show, he was brought up to the main roster and re-debuted on the September 18 episode of ''Raw is War''. His new character was Steven William Regal (soon shortened to William Regal), a stereotypical English snob, hearkening back to his WCW character. As a villain, Regal had much more success, winning the European Championship. He later became the on-screen commissioner and self-proclaimed "Goodwill Ambassador" of the WWF and was given a comedy sidekick in Tajiri. During the WCW/ECW Alliance storyline, Regal became a villain by costing Kurt Angle the WWF Championship and joining the WCW Alliance. He was fired as commissioner by Linda McMahon, but Shane McMahon, who was the owner of WCW, hired him as the Alliance Commissioner. After the Alliance was defeated at Survivor Series in November 2001, Regal was forced to become the first member of Vince McMahon's "Kiss My Ass" club by kissing the left cheek of McMahon's ass so he could keep his job.

Intercontinental and Tag Team Champion (2002–2005)

In 2002, after an absence due to surgery on his nose, Regal returned and feuded with Edge. He won the Intercontinental Championship from Edge at the Royal Rumble in January, where he began using a set of brass knuckles in order to win matches. Regal defended the title against Edge again at No Way Out in a brass knuckles on a pole match before losing the title to Rob Van Dam at WrestleMania X8. Soon after, he beat fellow WCW alum Diamond Dallas Page for the European Championship on an April 2002 edition of SmackDown! In mid-2002, the World Wrestling Federation was renamed World Wrestling Entertainment, and the roster was divided into two separate "brands". During this time he was drafted to the Raw brand by owner Ric Flair. He was defeated by Spike Dudley in a match for the European Title, but won it back two weeks later to become a four-time champion. He later lost the title to Jeff Hardy and later held the Hardcore Championship five times. He formed an alliance with Molly Holly before joining The Un-Americans, an anti-American villainous alliance consisting of Canadian wrestlers Lance Storm, Christian and Test. On the September 30, 2002 episode of ''Raw'', every member of The Un-Americans lost their matches, causing the group to separate later in the night and break away into separate groups. Regal began teaming with Lance Storm, Christian formed a tag-team with Chris Jericho, and Test branched off into single competition. Storm and Regal won the World Tag Team Championship from Booker T and Goldust thanks to Regal's brass knuckles. They lost the titles to The Dudleys (Bubba Ray and D-Von) at the Royal Rumble, but regained the titles twenty four hours later, thanks to an impromptu match set up by Chief Morley after Regal and Storm had put Bubba through a table. Regal would later have to give up his title due to a heart condition (initially thought to be a stomach virus contracted on a recent WWE tour of India).

Eugene, the "mentally challenged" nephew of ''Raw'' General Manager Eric Bischoff, was placed in the care of Regal during his return to WWE. Initially dismayed at having to babysit Eugene, Regal eventually grew very fond of him and they became friends, becoming a fan favorite in the process. Regal was ordered by Bischoff to make Eugene lose so that he would leave WWE, but his friendship with Eugene caused him to try only half-heartedly to cost Eugene his match with Robert Conway. Despite this, Bischoff put Regal back on the active roster. Regal would later team with Eugene and win the World Tag Team Championship from La Résistance on the November 15, 2004 edition of ''Raw''. Eugene legitimately injured himself at New Year's Revolution after botching a dropkick. This ultimately cost them the World Tag Team Championship, as Regal unsuccessfully attempted to defend the titles with announcer Jonathan Coachman as Eugene's stand in. The pair wrestled and lost a match against La Résistance at a house show, crowning them with their third reign. On February 4, 2005, Regal and old ally Tajiri defeated La Résistance to win the World Tag Team Championship on an episode of ''Raw'', broadcast live from Tajiri's home country Japan. La Résistance entered in a feud with the champions, and repeatedly missed out on the titles during matches, mainly on ''Sunday Night Heat''. During their last shot for the titles, La Résistance thought they had won back the titles, only to have the decision reversed by referee Mike Chioda due to the legal man not being pinned. After winning this match, an open challenge to any tag team was issued by Regal to try and win their belts. On the following episode of ''Raw'', Regal and Tajiri successfully defended the belts against the debuting Romeo and Antonio, known collectively as "The Heart Throbs." At Backlash in May, Regal and Tajiri participated in a Tag Team Turmoil match in which four teams competed for the World tag team titles. Regal and Tajiri were eliminated by La Résistance who, in turn, were eliminated by Hurricane and Rosey, who became the new champions. Shortly before the 2005 ECW One Night Stand, Regal announced that he was joining Eric Bischoff's anti-ECW faction to invade the pay-per-view, and told Tajiri he had to make a choice, either to join with Regal or join with ECW. Tajiri responded by chanting, "EC-Dub! EC-Dub!" (the traditional ECW chant). Regal did indeed invade the ECW pay-per-view, along with many other WWE performers. This would turn him heel again as a result.

SmackDown! and various feuds (2005–2006)

On June 30, 2005, Regal was sent to ''SmackDown!'' as part of an eleven person trade during the draft. His first match on ''SmackDown!'' was on July 7 against Matt Morgan, in what was to be Morgan's final WWE match. It was interrupted before Regal was even able to enter the ring by The Mexicools. His first full match as part of the roster was a loss to Chris Benoit in a chain wrestling match on the July 16 episode of ''WWE Velocity''. Having applied the Regal Stretch which Benoit managed to escape from, Regal eventually submitted to the Crippler Crossface.

On August 4, 2005, Regal was scheduled to go one on one with Scotty 2 Hotty, but the Mexicools came in and attacked both men. Two weeks later, they teamed up on ''SmackDown!'' against Psicosis and Super Crazy with Juventud in their corner. Halfway through the match, Regal betrayed Scotty by refusing to tag him and walked out of the ring with a smirk on his face, allowing the Mexicools to pick up the win. Two days later, Regal cut a promo telling the crowd that he had returned to his former self, referring to himself as a "scoundrel" and a "rogue". The promo ended when Scotty ran to the ring and attacked Regal. The following week, a match between the two was cut short when another Englishman, the debuting Paul Burchill, interfered to aid his countryman. Regal went on to take Burchill under his wing and tag with him on the hunt for the WWE Tag Team Championship, but the teams biggest exposure was a loss in a handicap match against Bobby Lashley at Armageddon.

On the February 3 edition of ''SmackDown!'', Regal and Burchill told the "network representative" Palmer Canon that they no longer wanted to be a tag team so they could go their separate ways. During this discussion, Burchill informed Canon that his family heritage traced back to the pirate Blackbeard, and that he wanted to turn this into a pirate gimmick. Burchill, with this heroic persona, started a rivalry with former team mate Regal, who would try to convince Burchill to return to his ruthless ways. Regal faced Burchill, his first match as a pirate, and was defeated following Birchill's Walking the Plank move. Burchill once again defeated Regal in a match with the stipulation that Regal would have to dress like a "buxom wench" if he lost the match. Lady Regal, as SmackDown! announcers jokingly referred to him, had no choice but to dress up like this until Burchill lost a match. This stipulation ended after Burchill abandoned Regal during a match that saw Regal and Burchill defeated by the Gymini tag team.

King Booker's Court (2006–2007)

Regal continued to wrestle in a lower mid-card status, the highlight of which saw Regal turn face for one night only as he faced the then-reigning United States Champion, JBL in a losing effort while in England. Soon after Booker T became King Booker after becoming King of the Ring and Regal joined King Booker's Court, playing the role of a town crier. As a member of the Court, Regal helped Booker in his feud against Bobby Lashley, occasionally teaming up with fellow Court member Finlay in tag team matches. However, during this time, Regal also feuded with Finlay for the WWE United States Championship. Regal was knighted by King Booker and changed his ring name to ''Sir William Regal''. At No Mercy, Regal lost to a returning Chris Benoit in a match, turning his back on the King's Court afterwards by knocking down King Booker with a left hand to the face after Booker slapped him and called him useless. During the broadcast, Regal was involved in a backstage segment with Vito in which he accidentally exposed his penis for a brief second. WWE.com issued an apology for the incident the next day.

Twelve days after No Mercy, Regal stated that while he had once been one of the world's greatest wrestlers, he had since become a doormat for other SmackDown superstars. He referred to being dressed as a buxom wench for a pirate, the aforementioned locker room incident with Vito, and being knighted by a false king as examples. After announcing he was finished being a whipping boy, he introduced his old tag team partner Dave Taylor, and the two went on to easily defeat the team of Scotty 2 Hotty and Funaki. Though the pair reformed their previous tag team, they did not reuse the ''Blue Bloods'' gimmick, instead portraying themselves as sadistic fighters. However, the team was quickly put into jeopardy in their second match together when Taylor suffered a torn meniscus in his left knee leaving him injured. Taylor took a more relaxed role for a couple of weeks as a corner man for Regal and only wrestled in a few short house show matches. Taylor quickly healed from his injury and the pair feuded with WWE Tag Team Champions Paul London and Brian Kendrick. After defeating London and Kendrick on several occasions, at Armageddon, they took part in a 4-way ladder match alongside Johnny Nitro and Joey Mercury and The Hardys. London and Kendrick coming out on top after Joey Mercury suffered a serious facial injury. On the May 25 edition of ''SmackDown!'', Regal and Taylor competed in a number 1 contenders match for the WWE Tag Team Championship against London and Kendrick, which they lost after Deuce 'n Domino interfered, making both teams the number one contenders. This interference led to a triple threat match the next week on ''SmackDown!'', in which Deuce 'n Domino retained the title.

General Manager of Raw and 2008 King of the Ring (2007–2009)

On June 17, Regal was drafted back to the Raw brand during the Supplemental Draft, ending his tag team with Dave Taylor. On July 2, Regal served as Interim General Manager of Raw, filling in for Jonathan Coachman. While General Manager, Regal introduced the Beat the Clock Sprint to ''Raw'', which was used to determine who would challenge John Cena for the WWE Championship at the 2007 Great American Bash.

On the August 6 edition of ''Raw'', Regal became the new General Manager after winning an over the top rope battle royal featuring other participants from the Raw roster. He began incorporating game shows into ''Raw'' while general manager. On the September 3 episode of ''Raw''', Regal was attacked by WWE Champion John Cena in retaliation for rewarding Randy Orton with a WWE title shot after Orton had kicked John Cena's father in the head the previous week. Regal was missing from Raw programming for one month due to this attack, making his return by siding with Vince McMahon. On New Year's Eve, Triple H was scheduled to face Ric Flair, in which Flair's win or retire ultimatum was still active. Regal announced that if Triple H lost the match in any way, he would not participate in the Royal Rumble match at the 2008 Royal Rumble. This was to give Triple H a reason to want to win the match rather than avoid ending the career of his best friend and idol. Regal was scheduled to compete against Hornswoggle that night with Mr. McMahon at ringside. McMahon tossed Regal some brass knuckles during the match and encouraged him to use them on Hornswoggle, but he let Hornswoggle go and left the ring. During the Flair versus Triple H match, Triple H performed the Pedigree on Flair and appeared to be going for the pin when Regal suddenly punched Flair in the face with the brass knuckles. This gave Flair the win by disqualification, ensuring that he could continue to wrestle and that Triple H would not be part of the Royal Rumble. As a result of Regal's actions towards Triple H, the following week on ''Raw Roulette'', Regal lost a First Blood match to Triple H after several right hands to Regal's forehead. A few weeks later, he made the Raw Elimination Chamber match for No Way Out. He later turned face for one night only while on a European tour, by facing Randy Orton in a match to try and teach him some respect.

The following week, Regal won the 2008 King of the Ring Tournament, on a special three hour edition of ''Raw'', where he defeated Hornswoggle, Finlay and CM Punk all by submission. Regal's coronation ceremony the next week was interrupted by the returning Mr. Kennedy. A few weeks later Regal lost a Loser Gets Fired match to Mr. Kennedy, after which, Regal was kayfabe forced to leave WWE. In reality, Regal was suspended on May 20, 2008, for sixty days for his second violation of the company’s Substance Abuse and Drug Testing Policy. On July 28, 2008, Regal returned from his suspension as a "free agent" during an episode of ''Raw'', where he was defeated by then World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk.

Regal began a mini-feud with Jamie Noble after he took an interest in Noble's romantic interest Layla, prompting him to attack Regal. Both men picked up victories in consecutive weeks, before Regal won their third match, departing with Layla at his side. Regal's feud with Noble escalated the subsequent week when Layla declared that Noble was a loser and that she found a man worthy of her in Regal. However, the feud was short lived.

On the November 3, 2008 episode of ''Raw'', Regal won an over-the-top battle royal to face Santino Marella for the Intercontinental Title, and the next week in Manchester, England, Regal defeated Marella in a 40 second squash match to win his second Intercontinental Title. Later, he entered into a feud for the title with number one contender CM Punk. On the January 5 edition of ''Raw'', Regal lost to Punk via disqualification after he grabbed the referee's shirt. Due to this, Stephanie McMahon awarded Punk a rematch the following week, with the stipulation that if Regal was disqualified, Regal would lose the Intercontinental title, but this time Punk was disqualified. McMahon awarded Punk another rematch, this time a No Disqualification match on January 19 episode of ''Raw'', Punk won the match and the title. Regal got a rematch but lost the match when Punk hit the Go To Sleep.

Following the Draft, Regal was left alone on the Raw brand as his on-screen manager Layla was drafted to the SmackDown brand. At Extreme Rules, Regal unsuccessfully challenged Kofi Kingston for the WWE United States Championship along with Montel Vontavious Porter and Matt Hardy, Kofi Kingston retained the United States Championship by pinning Regal.

Brand switches (2009–2011)

William Regal was traded to the ECW brand on June 29, 2009. In his first match on ''ECW on SyFy'' on June 30, 2009, he teamed with Vladimir Kozlov to defeat Tommy Dreamer and Christian.

On the August 11 edition of ''ECW on SyFy'', Regal defeated Tommy Dreamer to become number one contender for the ECW Championship. A week later, Regal teamed with Vladimir Kozlov to face Christian and Ezekiel Jackson, with the end of the match involving Jackson turning on Christian, allowing Regal to pin Christian for the victory. The end result of a new stable, referred to as "The Ruthless Roundtable". At SummerSlam 2009, Regal challenged Christian for the ECW Championship, but was unsuccessful after losing to Christian in just 8 seconds. Regal then challenged Christian to a rematch for the title at WWE Breaking Point, but was once again unsuccessful. Regal received another shot for the ECW Championship on the November 10 edition of ''ECW on SyFy'' in Sheffield, England, but was once again unsuccessful. Regal and Jackson eventually turned on Kozlov for being the 'weak link'. ECW was cancelled on February 16, 2010, and Regal returned to the Raw brand.

Regal was the WWE Pro to NXT Rookie Skip Sheffield on the first season of WWE NXT. Regal made his debut on the March 2 edition of ''NXT'', teaming with Sheffield in a losing effort against Matt Hardy and Justin Gabriel. On the April 13 edition of ''NXT'', Regal won his first match on the show, defeating former pupil Daniel Bryan. On the May 10 edition of ''NXT'', Sheffield was eliminated from the competition.

Regal would be mostly involved in lower card feuds after returning to "Raw", while also appearing on ''WWE Superstars''. After a losing streak that lasted five months, Regal gained his first victory since April by defeating Goldust on the August 26 edition of ''Superstars''. On the September 13 edition of ''Raw'', Regal was defeated by Goldust in a Trading Places Match where Regal had to wear Goldust's attire and Goldust had to wear Regal's. Goldust defeated Regal again on the September 23 edition of ''Superstars''. Regal would face Darren Young in three matches on ''Superstars'' in October and November, defeating Young at every turn. On the December 20 episode of ''Raw'', Regal went against former pupil Daniel Bryan in a losing effort. After the match, Regal showed respect to Bryan before leaving the ring.

NXT commentator and SmackDown (2011)

On the March 8, 2011 edition of ''WWE NXT'', Regal would replace Josh Mathews as the color commentator for the fifth season. On April 26, Regal was drafted to SmackDown as part of the 2011 WWE Supplemental Draft. Regal began a feud with rookie Jacob Novak and his pro JTG during his time as commentator, with Novak challenging Regal to a match. On the May 3 edition of ''WWE NXT'', Regal was set to face Novak, but instead faced JTG, who he defeated by disqualification thus turning him face. On the following week's edition of ''WWE NXT'', which would be Regal's 43rd birthday, Regal would face Novak, defeating him by his submission finisher, the ''Regal Stretch'' and ending their feud.

On the August 19, 2011 episode of SmackDown, Regal made his return to ''SmackDown'', competing in a 20-man over-the-top-rope battle royal to determine the No. 1 Contender for the World Heavyweight Championship, which was won by Mark Henry.

On the August 23, 2011 edition of ''NXT Redemption'', Regal would briefly step into the ring to save Matt Striker from an assault by Darren Young.

Personal life

He has been married to Christina since 1986. They have three sons: Daniel, Dane, and Bailey. His actual accent (Blackpool) is very different from the one he uses on television; one closer to Received pronunciation. He has a tattoo on his left leg which says "Made In England" and a rose with his wife's name on his left arm. Matthews participated in an episode of ''The Weakest Link'', winning two of the first three rounds and eventually finishing third. In the final three he was up against husband and wife Triple H and Stephanie McMahon. His pets include two snakes, eight lizards, a tortoise, three cats, and two dogs. He claims the reason he owns so many pets is because "Humans disgust me. Vile creatures".

In 2003, Darren was misdiagnosed with what was in actual fact a heart defect which meant the right side of his heart was beating out of sequence with the left. This allowed large volumes of fluid to build in his body. After undergoing specialist treatment which involved stopping his heart and months of anti-blood clot treatments, he returned to wrestling in April 2004. During his illness and recovery he put on, and then lost, 40 pounds in weight.

While in WCW, he was arrested during a flight from Japan back to the United States when he got drunk and urinated on a stewardess. By Matthews' account in his book, he claims that he was so drunk that he could not remember the incident and woke up in a cell in Anchorage, Alaska. On August 30, 2007, ''Sports Illustrated'' named Matthews, along with nine other superstars, found to be given illegal steroids not in compliance with the WWE Talent Wellness program. Matthews received stanozolol, somatropin, genotropin, and anastrozole between November 2004 and November 2006.
