2012 London Snow - Willesden Green
This was our second morning in London. We had just come from Sri Lanka and soaring tropical temperatures. The first morning was cold, but the second morning brought the snow. It was a cold snap and lasted a few days. The good news was that the snow had all melted by the afternoon/evening and there was no other snow for the remainder of the trip. This was filmed around the Willesden Green Tube Station on 11 February 2012. It was beautiful. Blog post at www.durbanbay.blogspot.com

Willesden Murti Pratistha Mahotsav 1988 - Part 1
23rd July - 31st July 1988 In the 1960s, some of the satsangis immigrated to Great Britain. Because they were religiously conscious and followed the principles of Lord Shree Swaminarayan via the Shikshapatri they wanted to get together for prayers and to celebrate religious festivals. In the beginning they used to meet up at each other's houses and for religious celebrations communal halls were hired. The number of satsangis increased and it became more difficult to accommodate them. We asked the advice of the late Reverend Mahant Swami Dharmajivandasji. At the time, he was the head priest at Shree Swaminarayan Temple Bhuj. He said in order to keep up the religious practice to guide the younger generation to lead a healthy and spiritually peaceful life, the satsangis in London should look for a centrally located place of worship. In 1975 a disused church on Willesden Lane was bought and renovated. It was officially opened in late 1975 to the public. His Holiness Shree Tejendraprasadji Maharaj and sadhus from India paid frequent visits to Willesden Temple. On the auspicious day of Sharad Purnima on 11th October 1975, Archarya Maharajshree personally installed the murtis of Lord Shree Swaminarayan, Shree NarNarayan Dev, Shree RadhaKrishna, Shree Hanumanji, Shree Ganeshji and gave his eternal blessings to the Temple. As time went on even the large church building could not accommodate the increasing numbers of satsangis. New activities had also been introduced by this time ...

Willesden National Grid 275kV substation
The major North West London 275 kV substation at Willesden run by National Grid. Also shown is some of the older 66 kV local distribution equipment now operated by UK power networks, who operate the London distribution network. 275 kV cables run under the canal towpath on the opposite side of the canal in very shallow cable trays. There are several "bridges" where the cables cross the canal to enter the substation. The canalside cables run East towards St John's Wood See www.youtube.com National Grid to decomission the canalside cables in the next few years, replacing them with 400 kV links in deep tunnels. Willesden substation also features an unusual device called a "Quadrature Booster". This is a 2 part device, consisting of a variable transformer (variac), and a current injection transformer. It is used to inject reactive current into a line, but in a precisely controllable way, unlike the fixed effect you get with capacitors. Presumably, this expensive device is needed due to the unusual load and number of underground lines. I wasn't able to see this.

London Underground Metropolitan & Jubilee Line Baker Street to Willesden Green 23rd February 2012
Starting at Baker Street we see Circle and Metropolitan line A (A60 and A62) stock in it's last few months of service, also brand new S stock. On to St John's Wood on the Jubilee line and the 1930s Charles Holden designed station in very much original condition. A short walk away is Abbey Road with it's famous music recording studio, most famous for the location of the cover photograph of the Beatles album, Abbey Road. The zebra crossing is grade two listed even though it's now several metres from it's original location. During the day there is an almost non stop photo shoot by tourists risking life and limb to get thier own recreations of the classic album cover. There is even a 24 hour webcam on the crossing, search for "Abbey Road webcam". On to Kilburn and then to the 1925 Willesden Green station designed by Charles Clark. Filmed an a Panasonic SD900. Wincutter fitted to camera mic, end anoying windnoise, get yours from thewindcutter.com
