Augusto Boal (April 16, 1931 - May 2, 2009) - PART 1
Augusto Boal (April 16, 1931 - May 2, 2009) After spending the past 2 weeks re-reading his books- i didn't expect to be putting up an obituary instead of a vlog. I found out today that he died on Saturday. I'd been tagged by KazukiSeirei a couple of weeks ago for another 5 facts tag, and i offered to vlog on something that really inspires me instead. This is the man I intended to vlog on. His work is truly inspirational to me, and I think, so very useful for the times we live in. I studied the theatre forms of Augusto Boal for 2 years- doing practical street theatre, invisible theatre, community drama, Theatre in Conflict Resolution and other dramatherapy. I wanted to vlog about him and in particular, Invisible Theatre and how it works to empower people and create real social and political change. I've had a load of little synchronicites that kept pointing me back to his work in the past month, & learned i had missed a workshop he himself held here in London just 4 weeks ago... so it's a bit strange to hear he's died after I had been geeking out on his life's work when i hadn't looked at it in 10 years! I'll vlog more personally on him next week maybe- somehow not in the mood right now :-( **************** AN EXAMPLE OF INVISIBLE THEATRE- write up of what was planned and what transpired,, on the topic of "Manufacturing Fear" that took place in New York. quebec.indymedia.org ***************** www.democracynow.org uprisingradio.org Legendary Brazilian theater director ...

Augusto Boal and Theatre of the Oppressed in Rio De Janeiro Screener
Screener for Augusto Boal and Theatre of the Oppressed in Rio De Janeiro DVD available online at www.artfilms.com.au A documentary by Ronaldo Morelos. Associate Producer Rod Wissler - Centre for Innovation in the Arts In 1994 Morelos spent 5 months in Rio de Janeiro, observing and documenting the work of Augusto Boal and the Centro de Teatro do Oprimido. It was the time of the Brazilian national elections. This time was also a year and a half into Boal's term as a Vereador (Councilor) of the Legislative Chamber of the Municipality of Rio de Janeiro. This documentary chronicles that time, the words and the work of Boal and his collaborators. It is a record of the work of a theatre maestro undertaking a daring and difficult experiment in overtly melding the concerns of theatre, therapy and politics. An account of a theatre company that is elected into public office. It is a story from the world of Theatre of the Oppressed. 53 mins, English

Invisible Activism - Boal's Theatre of the Oppressed PART 1 of 3
Augusto Boal was an innovative director from Brazil who developed new forms of theatre which act as powerful tools for the Activist, in the empowerment of people and the development of ideas and change. It is theatre by the people for the people. I wanted to vlog on one type of theatre style he developed as part of his 'Theatre of the Oppressed' way of working. This form being Invisible Theatre. Its a hugely broad topic so forgive me for being long winded, but for those who ARE involved in activism, I wanted to explain it enough that you can walk away with ideas that can be used in your activism work. This is Part 1- a breakdown of how invisible theatre works and the theory behind it. Part 2 is an example of an Invisible Theatre piece that was performed in New York in the wake of 9/11 Part 3 is my story of a Boal style theatre piece and how it escalated into violence, but also REAL understanding and change. en.wikipedia.org Interview with Boal: www.youtube.com

Yamaha PHX Drums played by Brad Boal
I'm not one to make videos about my gear but these drums sound so great I had to put something out there. The drums you see in this video are Yamaha's new PHX line. The shells are pretty thick at 11 ply and use a hybrid combination of woods. Jatoba, Kapur and Maple. The sizes are as follows: 22" x 16" Bass Drum 16" x 15" Floor Tom 14" x 13" Floor Tom 12" x 8" Rack Tom 10" x 7" Rack Tom 14" x 4" Maple Custom Absolute Nouveau Snare I have Remo Suede Emperors on the batter sides and Remo Clear Ambassadors on the resonant sides of each drum. Also a Remo Renaissance Powerstroke 3 on the Bass Drum batter side. All drums are finished in Matte Black with Chrome Hardware. When I first heard about these drums I wasn't 100% sure that Yamaha wasn't just hyping up a new product. After I finally got my hand on a set of them, I was totally convinced. These drums far exceed any other drum I've ever played in terms of overall great sound at any dynamic level. The lows are insane! Not to mention the clean and articulate highs. They have a very open sound which they can get away with because they sound so great. It's really how a drumset is supposed to sound. The drums resonate very well together as an entire kit. No ringing toms every time you play the bass or snare drum. Thanks Yamaha for making my job a whole lot easier and an all around great playing experience! These drums rock! I also want to send out a special thanks to James Wyrick at Norman Music Center in Norman, OK. James hooked ...

Hayden Boal - Waking Dream
© 2011 Hayden Boal Waking Dream Download it from itunes.apple.com Tweet it! clicktotweet.com You are beautiful, but you are not your body. Love note from God. We walk so fast that our souls can't catch up. My spirit taps my heart. Feelings grow in an hourglass. I had nothing to do one day, so I decided to fall in love. Never expected I'd find it this way. I swear it's a gift from above. You became my waking dream. Fading into a memory. I know that things are happening, but all I see is the ebb and flow in front of me. Clear my clouded eyes. I had nothing to do one day, so I decided to fall in love. Never expected I'd find it this way. I swear it's a gift from above. You became my waking dream. Fading into a memory. There's not a way to stop the fight, when it's you who's always right. I'll let her go, just lead me to the light.

Augusto Boal, Forum Theater, Harvard-2003 (Part 1/5)
Augusto Boal visited Cultural Agents and Harvard University in 2003. This is a talk and realization of the Brazilian playwright/philosopher/literary critic/artist/politician's theory, Forum Theater through The Theater of the Oppressed. His idea deconstructs the dramatic dichotomy often assumed between spectator and actor. Instead, everyone present is a spect-actor, free to interrupt the drama, interpret, re-do, play with with different options. This fun communal performance affords everyone present options and agency and language of theater through which individuals and communities, especially the oppressed, can seek emancipation from the limitations and frustrations of their lives. The Harvard community and Cultural Agents were very receptive to Boal's provocative and fun visit. For more information, visit www.culturalagents.org/ .
