David Crosby - interview on Later with Bob Costas
Long time gone: A quiz about David Crosby's biggest drug binges Try to separate fact from fiction in a haze of heavily mustachioed substance abuse David Crosby by Steven Hyden May 31, 2010 Article Tools * No matter how well Crosby, Stills, And Nash perform this Wednesday at Red Rocks, David Crosby deserves a standing ovation just for showing up. The 68-year-old singer and his signature walrus mustache have somehow made it to senior-citizen status after years of prodigious drug and alcohol abuse that should have killed him dozens of times. Tales of Crosby's drug-related excesses are so over-the-top and flat-out insane that they could never be fabricated. Or could they? See if you can pick out the actual David Crosby drug stories from the ones The AV Club made up. 1. Crosby ordered manager David Geffen to fly from Los Angeles to New York City so he could bring him drugs, or else he wouldn't perform at Carnegie Hall. Geffen was caught by police at the airport, but still managed to meet up with Crosby in Manhattan. When Geffen showed up without the drugs, Crosby screamed, "I'm gonna fucking kill you." 2. Crosby did acid with Mama Cass, Dennis Wilson of the Beach Boys, and future mass murderer/aspiring pop star Charles Manson at Cass' house in Laurel Canyon in the late '60s. At one point he promised Manson a record contract and allegedly said, "You'll be bigger than Dylan, man!" Then he fell asleep. 3. According to Barney Hoskyns' Hotel California: The True-Life Adventures Of <b>...</b>

David Crosby - "For Free" - Fretboard Journal photo shoot (solo, 2011)
David Crosby in a rare solo performance of Joni Mitchell's "For Free" during his Fretboard Journal photo shoot. In the early 1960s, Martin wasn't making 12-string guitars. So Crosby had his Martin D-18 converted into a 12-string guitar by Bay Area musical instrument guru Jon Lundberg. The bridge placement moved and the old holes were covered with this oversized pickguard. This is the guitar that his signature model Martin D-12 was based on, though the new models from Martin have no need for the jumbo pickguard. Filmed at David Crosby's Southern California home in August of 2011 by Jason Verlinde. Look for Crosby on the cover of the Fretboard Journal #25 (out in early March 2012). Lay Me Down- Crosby and Nash
The best song you probably never heard! We all pass through this life with challenges to overcome, this powerful song speaks of enlightenment, rebirth, renewal, and transformation of one's life, the power of the words speak for themselves. I hope you can feel it's deep meaning accompanied by my original photos. Thank You to Crosby and Nash for their powerful creation, and for bringing Light to our world through their art for so many years. This is one of their more recent endeavors. This song was written by James Raymond, who is actually David Crosby's son! It touches the soul!!!

Jerry Garcia & David Crosby - The Perro Sessions
Kids and Dogs Jorma & Jerry's Jam v1 Mountain Song (v 2&3) Loser (Versions 1-4) Mountain Song (v4) Eep Hour Jorma & Jerry's Jam v2 Some excellent reference material on the PERRO sessions: www.philzone.com DETAILS On 8/23/91 a copy of the several PERRO reels were compiled onto a DT 120 DAT on request by Paul to Graham (since the tapes where kept in the latter's vault) for a copy. When the Crosby, Stills & Nash box-set was being put together, some mystery reels were found. All of the CSNY tape collection was brought in to one place for the first time, including personal collections of Barncard, Joel Bernstein, Nash and Stills. One of the PERRO tapes had a small pipe with weed in it and somebody smoked it! It was still good. The material on the PERRO tapes was very interesting, but had nothing to do with CSNY. There were 4 reels of 2 track mixes made in 1971 during the sessions (obviously there is more that has never been mixed). The tapes were put into storage in Nash's vault. Paul called Nash in 1992 and requested DATs of those tapes. This was the first time they had been outside of the CSNY organization. They were copied at A&M Post Production audio and my personal DAT was made at that time. The roots of PER&RO go back a lot further than 1971. 1 guess it had its inception in the early years of the '60s (prior to the Airplane, the Byrds et al) when Kantner, Crosby and Freiberg used to hang out, play music, get high and rap together around Venice Beach. That was the initial <b>...</b>

Quite the show. The benefit for HepC at the Beacon Theater here in the Big Apple. Guests at this one were Natalie Cole, Crosby & Nash, Phil , Ron Holloway, Bill Evans, Danny Louis, Billy Gibbons and Devon Allman. Natalie Cole was amazing, David Crosby looked in great spirits, Phil was super on a day in between Furthur gigs, Bill Evans was great on Liz Reed, and Holloway also on the tunes he played. Everyone was on the money. Gibbons joined for the encore with Devon. I hadnt seen Derek with the new beard. He looks like Gregg. Wild.

Crosby Nash BBC - Guinnevere (2 of 5)
These videos are from a September 11 1970 half hour television performance Graham and David did for the BBC. It was right after CSNY had finished their famous...or infamous... four way street summer tour. with stories of epic melt downs and cosmic feedings between them all, the all star endeavor which had only began two years prior had all but imploded on itself. Fortunately, all of the guys didn't abandon their relationships all together. Neil recruited Stephen, David, and Graham for backing vocals on After the Gold Rush and Harvest. Crosby invited, among other amazing musicians, Nash, and Young to sing and play on his consummate album If I Could Only Remember My Name. (Interestingly, of all the musicians David invited to play on his album: Nash, Young, Jerry Garcia,Phil Lesh, Mickey Hart,Bill Kreutzmann, Jorma Kaukonen, Joni Mitchell, Grace Slick, David Freiberg, Paul Kantner, Jack Casady, Gregg Rolie, and Michael Shrieve...missing was Stephen Stills) Of all the members of CSNY David and Graham's relationship seemed to be the one that stayed most friendly. In these videos you can really see how jovial and genuinely humorous they were with each other and with their audience. not to mention their majestic vocal blending. (the two part harmonies, which sound like five part, on Guinnevere and Song With no Words are particularly mind blowing) If you dig this flavor of Crosby and Nash i would recommend finding a copy of their 10/10/1971 live recording Another Stoney Evening <b>...</b>

Sounds Like a Revolution is a pro-active and energizing documentary about a new generation of activist musicians who are living proof that music is an important and powerful tool in the ongoing struggle for social change. From the Dixie Chicks to Michael Franti to the punk band Anti-Flag, artists across the musical spectrum recount their motivations and struggles in a post-9/11 environment where dissent was silenced and censorship was commonplace. With themes that explore the role of artists in society, freedom of expression and democratic participation, Sounds Like a Revolution presents a unique historical perspective behind the new wave of protest music sweeping America and offers new hope for the future.
The film features dozens of amazing new protest songs and uncensored commentary from some of the most political artists of our time, Michael Franti, Pete Seeger, David Crosby, The Dixie Chicks, Steve Earle, Ani DiFranco, Anti-Flag, Jello Biafra, Henry Rollins, Tom Morello and Rage Against the Machine to name a few
