Filmed on a trip I took in '09 with a Samsung NV24HD for most shots and a Panasonic Lumix FZ20 for the closeups. Barbados is a lovely little island nation, 21 miles long by 14 miles wide at its widest point. It is politically stable and economically successful, and the quality of education in Barbados is among the highest in the world. These three things combine to make Barbados one of the safest if not the safest destination in the Caribbean, and it does this without having to be divided into tourist areas and local areas. Everyone can mix and mingle anywhere and at any time in Barbados. Barbados has been blessed with an excellent groundwater source, and unlike many other tropical destinations, you can drink the water straight from the tap. Crime in Barbados is low, and violent crime even lower. The same basic precautions should be taken in Barbados as would need to be taken in any other place. The locals are called Barbadians or more commonly Bajans. The majority are of African descent, followed by a white english minority and a small south and east asian minority. The Barbadian landscape is relatively flat, though there are some hilly areas concentrated on the east side of the island. Vegetation is lush and tropical. Ecosystems that can be found in Barbados include forests, jungles, grasslands, a few wetlands, scrubland, and farmland. The West and south coasts are highly developed while the East Coast remains largely undeveloped except for a few small villages and the ...

Descoberta pelos espanhóis em 1492, foi visitada pelos portugueses de 1536 até 1625. Nesta data foi reclamada pelos britânicos em nome de Jaime I de Inglaterra, que lhe iniciaram a colonização em 1627-1628.
Manteve-se como colónia britânica até 1966, ano de sua independência política. Membro da Comunidade Britânica, o país é governado por um primeiro-ministro apoiado pelo Senado e pela Assembleia.

Barbados é uma ilha relativamente plana, erguendo-se em vertentes de pequena inclinação até uma região central mais elevada, cujo ponto cimeiro é o monte Hillaby, com 336 m de altitude. Situa-se numa posição ligeiramente excêntrica no Oceano Atlântico, quando comparada com as restantes ilhas das Caraíbas. O clima é tropical, com uma estação das chuvas de Junho a Outubro. A cidade principal é Bridgetown, a capital da nação. Outras localidades importantes são Holetown e Speightstown.

A população é de 276 607 habitantes, o que corresponde a uma densidade de 644,8 hab/km², uma das mais elevadas do mundo. As taxas de natalidade e de mortalidade são, em 2003, respectivamente, de 13,15%o e 9,02%o. A esperança média de vida atinge 77,3 anos. O valor do Índice de Desenvolvimento Humano (IDH) é de 0,788, sendo o terceiro mais elevado de todo o continente americano, perdendo somente para os Estados Unidos e o Canadá.[2] Estima-se que em 2025 a população seja de 327 000 habitantes. Os negros compõem 90% da população, seguindo-se-lhes os asiáticos e os mestiços (6%), e os brancos (4%). A religião maioritária é a protestante (67%). A língua oficial é o inglês.

Barbados é uma monarquia constitucional. A atual rainha de Barbados é Isabel II, representada por um governador-geral, atualmente Sir Clifford Husbands. O chefe de governo é o primeiro-ministro, atualmente Freundel Stuart, que substituiu David John Howard Thompson após a sua morte repentina em outubro de 2010.

O país tem uma economia baseada no turismo, nas finanças (paraíso fiscal) e na exportação de açúcar e seus derivados (rum). Com excepção da cana-de-açúcar, os produtos cultivados são para consumo local.
O petróleo e o gás natural são produzidos em pequenas quantidades. O Governo incentivou o investimento na produção de medicamentos, de vestuário, de cerâmica, de vidro e de compostos electrónicos.
Os outros produtos existentes são o açúcar, o melaço, os cigarros, o papel e os têxteis. Os principais parceiros comerciais são os Estados Unidos, o Reino Unido, a Jamaica, Venezuela e Trindade e Tobago. A moeda de Barbados é o dólar barbadiano.

Thomas Cook (Melbourne, Derbyshire, 22 de novembro de 1808 — Bergen, Noruega, 18 de Julho de 1892) foi um empresário inglês.
Em uma Europa cada vez mais integrada por vias férreas existia, entretanto uma complexidade de tarifas e uma pouca variedade de meios de hospedagem que dificultavam uma massificação da atividade. Neste panorama, surge Thomas Cook, o primeiro agente de viagens do mundo, que utilizando um trem fretado criou a primeira viagem em grupo.
Em 1841 Cook organiza para 500 pessoas um tour a Leicester, sendo a primeira viagem em larga escala. Tendo a partir deste momento utilizado até mesmo o marketing para atrair clientes.
A partir deste momento massifica-se o turismo aproximando-o do modelo fordista.

Foi um empresário que transformou a produção “artesanal” de turismo em uma moderna indústria mercantil.
Em 1841, um vendedor de bíblias, chamado Thomas Cook, andara 15 milhas para um encontro de uma liga contra o alcoolismo em Leicester. Para um outro encontro, em Loughborough, ocorreu-lhe a ideia de alugar um trem para levar outros colegas. Juntou 570 pessoas, comprou e revendeu os bilhetes, configurando a primeira viagem agenciada. Em 1846, realizou uma viagem similar de Londres para Glasgow com 800 pessoas, utilizando os serviços de guias de turismo. As inovações de Cook marcaram a entrada do turismo na era industrial, no aspecto comercial.
- Em 1865, promoveu o traslado da sede social da empresa de Harborough à Londres.
- Em 1866 viajou aos Estados Unidos para contratar os serviços de diferentes companhias ferroviárias para produzir um pacote turístico.
- Mais tarde abriu sucursal da empresa na cidades americanas que lhe interessavam como abastecedoras.
- Em 1868 conseguiu a exclusiva para explorar o tráfico de passageiros do continente europeu pela rota de Harwich.
- Com este motivo viajou à Holanda, Bélgica e Alemanha com o objetivo de contratar a prestação de serviços de transporte com diversas companhias ferroviárias. Um de seus mais destacados sucessos foi conseguir uma nova e exclusiva rota para explorar o tráfico de passageiros pela rota do porto de Brenner a Bríndisi. Durante a guerra franco - prusiana, a rota só esteve aberta para servir à produção do turismo da empresa de Cook. Uma de suas aportacões mais destacadas foi a criação do sistema de pago baseado em cupões contratados com hotéis usados como meio de pagamento por seus clientes. O exemplo de Cook foi imitado tanto na América como na Europa dando nascimento a la criação de numerosas empresas dedicadas à produção do turismo e a intermediação dos serviços de hospedagem e de transporte para o segmento da demanda que preferia produzir seu próprio turismo.
Morreu com a idade de 84 anos.
