Sister Rosetta Tharpe (March 20, 1915 – October 9, 1973) was an American singer, songwriter, guitarist and recording artist. A pioneer of 20th-century music, Tharpe attained popularity in the 1930s and 1940s with her gospel recordings that were a unique mixture of spiritual lyrics and rhythmic/early rock accompaniment. She became gospel music's first crossover artist and its first great recording star, referred to later as "the original soul sister" and "the godmother of rock and roll". She was an early influence on figures such as Little Richard, Johnny Cash, Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley and Jerry Lee Lewis.
Willing to cross the line between sacred and secular by performing her music of "light" in the "darkness" of the nightclubs and concert halls with big bands behind her, Tharpe pushed spiritual music into the mainstream and helped pioneer the rise of pop–gospel beginning with her 1939 hit "This Train". Her unique music left a lasting mark on more conventional gospel artists such as Ira Tucker, Sr. of the Dixie Hummingbirds. While she offended some conservative churchgoers with her forays into the pop world, she never left gospel music.
Exile on Coldharbour Lane is the debut album by Alabama 3, released November 11, 1997, on One Little Indian and Geffen. The name and cover are references to Exile on Main St. by The Rolling Stones and Coldharbour Lane a major street in Brixton, South London best known for containing several after-hours clubs and not a few drug dealers. Recording sessions took place from March to June 1997. Upon its release, the album received favorable reviews, including an 8.9 review from Pitchfork Media. Exile on Coldharbour Lane did not chart on any album charts in the United States. The song "Sister Rosetta" was featured in the film "Barnyard".

Rosetta (/roʊˈzɛtə/; Arabic: رشيد Rašīd IPA: [ɾɑˈʃiːd]; French: Rosette [ʁo.zɛt]) is a port city of the Nile Delta, located 65 km (40 mi) east of Alexandria, in Egypt's Beheira governorate.
Founded around in the 9th century, Rashid boomed with the decline of Alexandria following the Ottoman conquest of Egypt in 1517, only to wane in importance after Alexandria's revival. During the 19th century, it was a popular British tourist destination, known for its charming Ottoman mansions, citrus groves and comparative cleanliness.
Both the Arabic name Rašīd (meaning "guide") and the western name Rosetta or Rosette ("little rose" in Italian and French respectively) are corruptions (or folk etymologies) of a Coptic toponym, Trashit.Rosetta or Rosette was the name used by the French at the time of Napoleon Bonaparte's campaign in Egypt and thus became eponymous of the Rosetta Stone (French: Pierre de Rosette), which was found by French soldiers at the nearby Fort Julien in 1799.
"Didn't It Rain", sometimes given as "Oh, Didn't It Rain", is an American gospel song. It originated as a Negro spiritual or work song, and appeared in sheet music for piano art song form in a 1919 arrangement by Henry Thacker Burleigh (1866–1949).
A sister is the female offspring of one's parent.
The term sister comes from Old Norse systir which itself derives from Proto-Germanic *swestēr, both of whom have the same meaning, i.e. sister. Some studies have found that sisters display more traits indicating jealousy around their siblings than their male counterparts, brothers. In some cultures, sisters are afforded a role of being under the protection by male siblings, especially older brothers from issues ranging from bullies or sexual advances by womanizers.
Various studies have shown that an older sister is likely to give a varied gender role to their younger siblings as well as being more likely to develop a close bond with their younger siblings. Older sisters are more likely to play with their younger siblings. Younger siblings display a more needy behavior when in close proximity to their older sister and are more likely to be tolerant of an older sisters bad behavior. Boys with only an older sister are more likely to display stereotypically male behavior, and such masculine boys increased their masculine behavior with the more sisters they have. The reverse is true for young boys with several sisters, as they tend to be feminine, however they outgrow this by the time they approach pubescence. Boys with older sisters were less likely to be delinquent or have Emotional and behavioral disorders. A younger sister is less likely to be scolded by older siblings than a younger brother. The most common recreational activity between older brother/younger sister pairs was art drawing. Some studies also found a correlation between having an older sister and constructive discussions about safe sexual practises.

Sister Rosetta Tharpe - 'the godmother of rock & roll' performs at the Blues and Gospel Train concert in rainy Manchester on 7th May 1964. Although, billed as 'Chorltonville', this was actually at Alexandria Park Station - later Wilbraham Road Station. Includes 'Didn't it Rain' performed in a typically rainy Manchester evening. Chorltonville is actually a small group of about 300 houses, where I currently live. No train station here - but that was quite a show - at Alexandria Park station.

Sister Rosetta Tharpe performs Didn't It Rain in the Uk in 1964.
In the pantheon of rock and roll divinity, Sister Rosetta Tharpe is a prominent, yet often under appreciated, pillar. As a young woman, Tharpe was a star in the gospel community. When she made the move into secular music, she became an early pioneer of rock and roll. In this lesson, Joe Shadid demonstrates a few licks Sister Rosetta used and how to apply them into a traditional gospel chord progression. She's a caged animal london by night
Crashing lights and cymbals queens of twilight
And if I was you I'd use the loo before the long drive
We compliment each other just like satan and christ
Baby when I am laid to rest
May my laughter remain like your kiss blew me away
Answer your spirit I gotta know right now
I see you before me won't you show me how
I wear my hair fizzy I don't copy no style
Cause a kissin and a scrubbin has consequences
You're on the bus again past big ben with your rip off oyster card
Tell your A.S.B.O. friend to sling his hook and go make your girl smile
Cos baby when I am laid in earth
May my laughter remain like your kiss blew me away
Left your scent on my pillow
Sister rosetta was playin the congregation insane
Drinkin to the house with no name
Capture the spirit I gotta know right now
I see you before me won't you show me how
Cos I am the landlord you'll be my troubadour
