There was a major boycott with the Obama administration refusing to attend, claiming the conference would unfairly target Israel. Critics say the controversy over Israel could have been an excuse to avoid dealing with the conferences key issues, including addressing the legacy of slavery.

Nowadays, TBS airs the perennial 1983 Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story," for a 24-hour period (a job previously held by TNT from 1997 until 2004 and in 2007) from Christmas Eve at 8pm ET until Christmas Day at 8pm. We go back now, however, to 1989, just after TBS introduced its "Entertainment with a Capital YES!...TBYES!" campaign. "A Christmas Story" aired (apparently) at 1:35pm ET, and an anime adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen's "The Little Mermaid" (for purposes of this video, I'm dating it with its original release year of 1975, although the film was dubbed in English in 1979), which probably aired due to the fact that Disney released their own version of the tale that year, followed at 3:35pm.
