Chris Lord-Alge is a mixer who has worked on various albums. He is the brother of Tom Lord-Alge, another audio engineer. Chris Lord-Alge is known for his extreme use of dynamic range compression in both hardware and software plug-in versions.^[1]

Chris Lord-Alge gained notoriety while working at Unique Recording Studios, New York City in the 1980s for his mixing on James Brown's Gravity album, which included the hit song "Living In America", the Rocky IV soundtrack, Prince's Batman soundtrack , Joe Cocker's Unchain My Heart album, Chaka Khan's Destiny album, Carly Simon's Coming Around Again album, Tina Turner's Foreign Affair album and 12" remixes of Madonna's "La Isla Bonita", the Rolling Stones' "Too Much Blood" and Bruce Springsteen's "Dancing in the Dark", "Cover Me", and "Born in the U.S.A.". While working in Japan (1995–1997),^{[citation needed]} he worked with Tetsuya Komuro, No! Galers, Namie Amuro and hitomi. Lord-Alge has focused on mixing since the late 1990s, resulting in an extensive production discography (see below).

In early 2010, Waves Audio released the Chris Lord-Alge Artist Signature Collection of audio plug-ins, a collection of 6 application-specific audio plug-ins for Bass, Drums, Effects, Vocals, Guitars, and Unplugged.^[2] Slightly before that, Waves had also released a collection of CLA-branded compressors, labelled the 'Classic Compressors' bundle, featuring the CLA-76 (Urei 1176LN), CLA-2A (Teletronix LA-2A) and CLA-3A (Urei LA-3A). These are among Chris's favourite dynamics units. It is widely assumed that Waves were unable to get a license to produce authorised versions of the 1176, LA-2A and LA-3A as their current manufacturer and owner, Universal Audio, already produce their own range of audio plug-ins - the UAD packs; and so branded them under CLA's name instead. Waves also performed this action under the name of Jack Joseph Puig, where some of his favourite outboard, including a Fairchild limiter (sold as Puigchild), and 2 Pultec EQs (sold as Puigtec) was modelled by Waves, who again are widely assumed to have failed in obtaining a license to officially release the plug-ins under their true company names, as they have successfully done with brands including API and Solid State Logic.

On February 22, 2011 Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan announced on Facebook that the band is working with Lord-Alge on two new songs for their project, Teargarden by Kaleidyscope. ^[3]

Tara MacLean (born Tara Margaret Charity MacLean on October 25, 1973 in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada) is a Canadian singer and songwriter. She was discovered by two Nettwerk employees on the top deck of one of the Gulf Islands ferries singing with some friends.

Her hit songs as a solo artist include "Evidence", "If I Fall", and a cover of the Christmas song "Light of the Stable". She was a member of Atlantic Canadian regional group, Shaye with Kim Stockwood and Damhnait Doyle from 2002 to 2007.

Early years[link]

Tara Margaret Charity MacLean is the daughter of accomplished actress, Sharlene MacLean and Danny Costain, a singer and dancer from British Columbia. She was also influenced greatly by her step father Marty Reno, a songwriter/guitarist, best known for his recording work with Canadian recording star Gene McLellan. Born and raised in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island on the east coast of Canada, MacLean is the eldest of four children. All four were pulled from their burning home in May, 1987 by Constable David Cheverie, who was awarded for bravery and received the Cross of Valour for saving their lives. She moved to B.C. when she was 13 years old.

MacLean lived in Victoria and graduated from Mount Douglas Secondary School in 1991.

Nettwerk Records discovered MacLean singing on a ferry between Victoria, B.C. and Salt Spring Island. She signed to Nettwerk Records in April 1995 after moving to Vancouver to record her song "Let Her Feel the Rain" for Lit from Within, a Nettwerk Records benefit compilation for rape crisis centers. That song was also placed on a Nettwerk compilation titled Slowbrew, and it received some radio airplay. She is managed by Terry McBride, and her representing agents are S.L. Feldman's in Canada and Little Big Man in the U.S. She is signed to Sony Music Publishing Canada.

Her first live appearance in Vancouver was at Nettwerk Record's 10 Year Anniversary Show at the Vogue Theater. MacLean made an impact opening for the Dave Matthews Band and she appeared at the East Coast Music Awards where she sang with Marty Reno and Lennie Gallant as a tribute to Gene McLellan.

In October 1995 MacLean went to San Francisco to record her debut album Silence at Brilliant Studios with producer Norm Kerner (American Music Club, Sky Cries Mary, Spain) with additional recording in Vancouver.

Nettwerk Records National Promotion Director Marc Alghini reports that over 20,000 of her debut CD have sold off Tara MacLean’s US tour.^{[citation needed]} MacLean toured to promote Silence for over two years, including opening slots for Ashley MacIsaac, Barenaked Ladies, Paula Cole, Ron Sexsmith and Tom Cochrane, and The Cure as well as eight dates on the Lilith Fair tour.

In 1997 MacLean released a five-song EP of live, remixed and re-recorded songs called "If You See Me". MacLean embarked on a national club tour to promote the EP, performing as a duo with guitarist Bill Bell (Tom Cochrane, Danko Jones). She was named Best New Solo Artist at the Canadian Radio Music Awards in 1997,^{[citation needed]} joined Capitol Records for her major label release.

Her version of the folk song Rattlesnake Mountain, also known as "On Springfield Mountain", was featured during the closing credits of the 1997 movie Inventing the Abbotts.

Passenger[link]

MacLean's second full length album was called "Passenger". It was recorded in New Orleans and produced by Malcolm Burn (Daniel Lanois) and then husband Bill Bell (Tom Cochrane, Danko Jones). It was released in October 1999 by Nettwerk Records in Canada and Capitol Records in America. MacLean promoted Passenger in Canada, America and Asia for 18 months. "If I Fall" and "Divided" were both released as singles. "Live from Austin" and "Live from Roots Lodge" were released as two special live EPs. "Settling" was also released in Taiwan as the album's third single. She toured extensively, opening for Dido on her first U.S. tour.

To support "Passenger", MacLean joined Kendall Payne, Shannon McNally and Amy Correia for a 21-stop Capitol Records sponsored The Girls Room Tour across America. Admission to The Girls Room shows were free, and the tour donated $1,000 to a women's charity in each city the tour visits. "Passenger" sold over 50,000 copies. She also appeared on Late Night with Conan O'Brien and had a Cameo in the Jerry Bruckheimer film Coyote Ugly, and USA Network's, Good vs Evil.

MacLean left Capitol Records in 2001.

MacLean gave birth to her first child Sophia Madrien Soleil Bell in 2001 in Oakville, Ontario.^[1]

MacLean collaborated with fellow artists Kim Stockwood and Damhnait Doyle. The resulting group was named Shaye.

Their debut album "The Bridge" was released in October 2003 on EMI Canada. "Happy Baby" the lead single, was nominated for Single of the Year at the 2004 Juno Awards and won the Canadian Radio music award.^{[citation needed]} This was followed up by "Beauty" in January 2005. They represented Canada at the World Expo in Nagoya, Japan that Spring.

In 2006 Tara gave birth to her second child Stella Heather Sky Grand in Toronto, where she now resides with her partner Ted Grand (director and co-founder of Moksha Yoga.)

Their 2006 follow up, "Lake of Fire" was released on EMI Canada. It was exclusively available on iTunes in November 2006, then released physically in February 2007.

Tara MacLean's third full length release Wake was released on the 22nd April, 2008, and is available to purchase as CD or MP3 from Nettwerk. A 7 song EP titled Signs of Life was released digitally April 30, 2007 on iTunes.

On October 8, 2007, Tara MacLean announced that she was leaving Shaye due to parental commitments and the desire to pursue a solo career.^[2]

Damien Rice (born 7 December 1973) is an Irish singer-songwriter, musician and record producer who plays guitar, piano, clarinet and percussion.

Rice was raised in Celbridge, County Kildare, Ireland and began his musical career as a member of the 1990s rock group Juniper. After leaving the band he worked as a farmer in Tuscany and busked throughout Europe before returning to Ireland in 2001 and beginning a solo musical career.

In 2002 his debut album O reached #8 on the UK albums chart, won the Shortlist music prize and generated three top-30 singles in the UK. Rice released his second album 9 in 2006 and his songs have appeared in numerous films and television episodes.

Rice's personal activities include musical contributions to charitable projects such as the Songs for Tibet, Freedom Campaign and the Enough Project.

Rice was born to George and Maureen Rice and raised in Celbridge, County Kildare, Ireland.^[1]

Career[link]

Rice began his music career using the stage name "Dodima" Rice^{[citation needed]} and formed the rock band Juniper along with Paul Noonan, Dominic Philips, David Geraghty and Brian Crosby in 1991. The band met whilst they were attending Salesian College secondary school in Celbridge, Co. Kildare as students. After touring throughout Ireland the band released their debut EP Manna in 1995.^[2]
Based in Straffan, Kildare the band continued touring and signed a six album record deal with Polygram. Their recording projects generated the singles “Weatherman” and “Single of the Fortnight” which received favorable reviews.^[2]

After achieving his musical goals with Juniper, Rice became frustrated with the artistic compromises required by the record label, and he left the band in 1998.^[3] Rice moved to Tuscany in Italy and took up farming for some time, then returned to Ireland before busking around Europe.^[3] After returning to Ireland a second time, Rice gave a demo recording to his cousin, music producer David Arnold who then gave Rice a mobile studio.^[4][5]

In 2001, Rice's song "The Blower's Daughter" made a top 40 chart.^[4] Over the next year he continued to record his album with New York drummer Tom Osander aka Tomo, Paris pianist Jean Meunier, London producer David Arnold, Dublin vocalist Lisa Hannigan and cellist Vyvienne Long.^[5] Rice then embarked on a tour of Ireland with Hannigan, Tomo, Vyvienne, and Dublin bassist Shane Fitzsimons.^[5]

In 2002, Rice’s debut album O was released in Ireland, the UK and the United States.^[6] The album peaked at #8 on the UK albums chart and remained on the chart for 97 weeks, selling 650,000 copies in the US.^[6][7] The album won the Shortlist music prize and the songs "Cannonball" and "Volcano" became top 30 hits in the UK.^[7][8]

In 2006 Rice released his second album 9 which was recorded during the two years prior.^[9] That year he also recorded at Abbey Road Studios for the program Live from Abbey Road.

2007 was a year of heavy touring with Rice appearing at England's Glastonbury Festival and the Rock Werchter festival in Belgium. That same year he performed with David Gray at the UK leg at Wembley Stadium, London and played at the T in the Park music event in Scotland. Rice also performed at the Latitude Festival in Suffolk, the V Festival in Stafford, Staffordshire, Hylands Park in Chelmsford, Essex and the Osheaga Festival in Montreal.^[10] He made additional appearances in Ireland and North America.

In 2010, Damien played at the Iceland Inspires concert held in Hljómskálagarðurinn near Reykjavík centrum.^[11]

Rice recorded a cover of the Juniper track, "Crosseyed Bear" for the compilation, Help: A Day in the Life. Rice's albums are published under his record label Heffa (originally named DRM) in Ireland and Vector Records in North American. Records released in the UK, Europe and other countries are published by 14th Floor Records via Warner Music.^[12]

In spring 2011, Rice featured on the debut album by French actress and singer Melanie Laurent. He appears on two tracks on her debut album En t'attendant while collaborating on a total of five tracks which feature on the album.^[13]

In November 2011, the compilation album "AHK-toong BAY-bi Covered" was released to celebrate the 20 year anniversary of U2's Achtung Baby album. AHK-toong BAY-bi features Damien Rice in a cover of "One," a stripped-down, piano-driven interpretation of one of the most popular U2 songs.^{[citation needed]}

In December 2011, his song "Cannonball" was used as the winner's single on The X Factor (UK series 8). Little Mix, the winners released the song.^{[citation needed]}

In May of 2012, Rice's song "Volcano" was covered by American Idol finalist Phillip Phillips, drawing praise from the judges and Steven Tyler specifically, stating "Thats the kind of song I could listen to over and over on my headphones (sp)." ^[14]

Rice participated in the Freedom Campaign, the Burma Campaign UK and the U.S. Campaign for Burma to free Burmese democracy movement leader Aung San Suu Kyi.^[15] He campaigned for her release by writing and performing the song "Unplayed Piano" at the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize Concert in Oslo.^[16]

In 2008 he participated in a music album called Songs for Tibet in support of the Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso and Tibet.^[17]

In 2010, he contributed the song "Lonely Soldier" to the Enough Project which supported women's rights in the Congo.^[18]
