The Sega Model 2 is an arcade system board released by Sega in 1993. Like the Model 1, it was developed in cooperation with Martin Marietta, and was a further advancement of the earlier Model 1 system. The most noticeable improvement was texture mapping, which enabled polygons to be painted with bitmap images, as opposed to the limited monotone flat shading that Model 1 supported.
Despite its high price tag, the Model 2 platform was very successful. It featured some of the highest grossing arcade games of all time: Daytona USA, Virtua Fighter 2, Cyber Troopers Virtual-On and The House of the Dead to name a few.
Model 2 has four different varieties, commonly referred to as Model 2, Model 2A-CRX, Model 2B-CRX and Model 2C-CRX. While Model 2 and 2A-CRX use a custom DSP with internal code for the geometrizer, 2B-CRX and 2C-CRX use well documented DSPs and upload the geometrizer code at startup to the DSP. This, combined with the fact that some games were available for both 2A-CRX and 2B-CRX, led to the reverse engineering of the Model 2 and Model 2A-CRX DSPs.

A port of the most successful arcade racer ever, the home versions of Daytona USA include the same elements that made the original version successful: three highly detailed tracks, arcade driving physics that challenge the player to find the best trajectory to make a flying lap without kissing the rails and beating the checkpoint timer. The 40 cars of the Easy race (later named 3-7 Speedway), one of the stalwarts of the original version, are also present in this version.
These home versions include a new mode (Saturn or PC Mode, depending on the platform) where the three tracks are played without the timer, and optionally in mirror mode, using one of the bonus cars (with additional abilities such as driving on grass or hitting the rails without losing speed) and in one of three lengths: Normal (identical to the arcade original), Grand Prix (2.5 times longer) and Endurance (10 times longer).
On the downside, detail and frame rate suffered a drop to fit the game into the limited hardware of the Saturn and Personal Computers, and lacking any kind of multiplayer, comparing to the two to eight player rumbles of the arcade version.

These are the intros and a slight bit of attract mode/demo play in between them. There are two short intros in total. This was captured with the Model 2B board set to Japanese region so that the Pepsi branding would be on Picky's skateboard, shown on a can in the second intro and in Picky's stage on a sign and trucks. This has to be probably my favorite collection of games in one place....just about every one of these i can remember playing on arcade back in the days....when things were....easier, Daytona was and still is one of the games that defines my youth in the arcade...the music could be heard from anywhere in the building......Gentlemen Start Your Engines!!!!!!!!

My very first restoration project involving a very sick cab which was sold as spares or repair.
It took much longer than expected due to my working hours, the cold dark winter months and finding the necessary parts at reasonable prices. I have to say thanks again for Stuart at Coin Gaming as he supplied the bulk of the parts required for this project at very good prices.
One half of the cab has recently been sold to a fellow collector, so I'm going to have to restore another D2 single that I have in storage. Hopefully that restoration should go smoothly now I have a bit of experience working on these cabs.
Not much more to add, apart from it's a fantastic game!
It's certainly one of Sega's best games, so hopefully they do the right thing and unleash it onto one/all of the home gaming formats.

Sega Blockade was Sega's first unified arcade system board, released in 1976 for Blockade and then used for other similar games in 1976 and 1977.
Sega VIC Dual
Sega released the Sega VIC Dual arcade system board in 1977 as one of the first systems to use the Zilog Z80 microprocessor. Some of the games on the system include Depthcharge (1977), Frogs (1978), Heiankyo Alien (1979), Head On (1979), Carnival (1980), and Samurai (1980).

Virtua Fighter
Virtua Fighter (Japanese: バーチャファイター) is a series of 3D competitive fighting games created by Sega studio AM2 and designer Yu Suzuki in 1993, and receiving four main sequels since. The first game is widely recognized as the first 3D fighting game ever released.
The basic gameplay involves two combatants needing to win two of three rounds, with each round being 30 seconds long or more. If a character is knocked out (or falls out) of the ring, the opponent wins the round. A fourth round is necessary if a double knockout (both players knocking each other out at the same time) occurred in a previous round and the match is tied one round each. In this fourth round, players fight on a small stage wherein one hit equals victory. Its control scheme is simple, using only a control stick and 3 buttons (Punch, Kick, Guard); however, through various timings, positions, and button combinations, players unlocked a bevy of moves for each character. Traditionally, in the single-player mode, the player runs a gauntlet of characters in the game (which may include one's doppelgänger) all the way to the final boss.

Virtua Fighter 4
Virtua Fighter 4 (Japanese: バーチャファイター4, Hepburn: Bācha Faitā Fō) is a fighting game by Sega. It is the fourth game in the Virtua Fighter series.
The game was first released in arcades on the NAOMI 2 board in 2001. A port of the game, as well as that of Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution under the budget-priced "Greatest Hits" label, appeared on the Sony PlayStation 2 in 2002 and 2003, respectively.
In Japan, Virtua Fighter 4 is famous for spearheading and opening the market for internet functionality in arcades. VF.NET started in Japan in 2001, and since companies have created their own arcade networks, e-Amusement by Konami, NESiCAxLive by Taito and Square Enix, and ALL.Net by Sega and Bandai Namco.

Fighting Vipers Arcade Intros (1995 Sega Model 2B Sega Am2) Real Hardware
These are the intros and a slight bit of attract mode/demo play in between them. There are two short intros in total. This was captured with the Model 2B board set to Japanese region so that the Pepsi branding would be on Picky's skateboard, shown on a can in the second intro and in Picky's stage on a sign and trucks. Daytona USA 2 Arcade Cabinet restoration project Sega Am2
My very first restoration project involving a very sick cab which was sold as spares or repair. It took much longer than expected due to my working hours, the cold dark winter months and finding the necessary parts at reasonable prices. I have to say thanks again for Stuart at Coin Gaming as he supplied the bulk of the parts required for this project at very good prices. One half of the cab has recently been sold to a fellow collector, so I'm going to have to restore another D2 single that I have in storage. Hopefully that restoration should go smoothly now I have a bit of experience working on these cabs. Not much more to add, apart from it's a fantastic game! It's certainly one of Sega's best games, so hopefully they do the right thing and unleash it onto one/all of the home gaming fo...

The Sega Model 2 is an arcade system board released by Sega in 1993. Like the Model 1, it was developed in cooperation with Martin Marietta, and was a further advancement of the earlier Model 1 system. The most noticeable improvement was texture mapping, which enabled polygons to be painted with bitmap images, as opposed to the limited monotone flat shading that Model 1 supported.
Despite its high price tag, the Model 2 platform was very successful. It featured some of the highest grossing arcade games of all time: Daytona USA, Virtua Fighter 2, Cyber Troopers Virtual-On and The House of the Dead to name a few.
Model 2 has four different varieties, commonly referred to as Model 2, Model 2A-CRX, Model 2B-CRX and Model 2C-CRX. While Model 2 and 2A-CRX use a custom DSP with internal code for the geometrizer, 2B-CRX and 2C-CRX use well documented DSPs and upload the geometrizer code at startup to the DSP. This, combined with the fact that some games were available for both 2A-CRX and 2B-CRX, led to the reverse engineering of the Model 2 and Model 2A-CRX DSPs.

A port of the most successful arcade racer ever, the home versions of Daytona USA include the same elements that made the original version successful: three highly detailed tracks, arcade driving physics that challenge the player to find the best trajectory to make a flying lap without kissing the rails and beating the checkpoint timer. The 40 cars of the Easy race (later named 3-7 Speedway), one of the stalwarts of the original version, are also present in this version.
These home versions include a new mode (Saturn or PC Mode, depending on the platform) where the three tracks are played without the timer, and optionally in mirror mode, using one of the bonus cars (with additional abilities such as driving on grass or hitting the rails without losing speed) and in one of three lengths: Normal (identical to the arcade original), Grand Prix (2.5 times longer) and Endurance (10 times longer).
On the downside, detail and frame rate suffered a drop to fit the game into the limited hardware of the Saturn and Personal Computers, and lacking any kind of multiplayer, comparing to the two to eight player rumbles of the arcade version.

My very first restoration project involving a very sick cab which was sold as spares or repair.
It took much longer than expected due to my working hours, the cold dark winter months and finding the necessary parts at reasonable prices. I have to say thanks again for Stuart at Coin Gaming as he supplied the bulk of the parts required for this project at very good prices.
One half of the cab has recently been sold to a fellow collector, so I'm going to have to restore another D2 single that I have in storage. Hopefully that restoration should go smoothly now I have a bit of experience working on these cabs.
Not much more to add, apart from it's a fantastic game!
It's certainly one of Sega's best games, so hopefully they do the right thing and unleash it onto one/all of the home gaming formats.
