Decadence : Decline of the Western World - Documentary Trailer
Fork Films presents a Feature Documentary DECADENCE : Decline of the Western World www.decadencedocumentary.com "We can destroy ourselves by cynicism and disillusion, just as effectively as by bombs" Kenneth Clark All civilisations rise and fall. For 300 years, the Judeo-Christian West has been the world's pre-eminent civilisation. So, where is the West on the timeline? Many have theorised about the fall of western civilisation but now we appear to have the evidence. Low birth rates, ageing populations, debt-laden economies and immigration -- the West consumes without consequence, loves without longevity and lives without meaning. Peak oil, climate change, the GFC is the world without. Decadence, a lush essay-style documentary filmed in eight countries, is about the world within, about us. About what we have gained and lost. About a new renaissance or a final dark age? You choose.

KARMA TO BURN - Waiting on the Western World (Official)
Following last years highly successful reunion tour, Karma to Burn is now ready to release their brand-new studio effort. The trio's die hard fans will not need long to realize the band has kept its edge. Heavy riffs and catchy grooves are still the main ingredients of the unique Karma to Burn sound that creates an atmosphere capable of projecting the band's high energy live shows. With the intensity of an American 18-wheeler, the band roars through their new material, leaving fans of the mighty riff no other choice than to join the party. The new songs were produced by legendary Kyuss bass player Scott Reeder and feature vocals by Daniel Davies (Year Long Disaster). The first pressing (limited to 2000 copies) also includes a special bonus CD featuring a guest performance by John Garcia (Kyuss, Hermano, Unida). With this latest release, the stoner rock legends impressively return to the scene with a load of mighty riffs! Some people dream of sitting on a beach in Tahiti or sailing around the world.
Benjamin's travel dream was to hitchhike around the USA for a year (his Nana thought it was a pretty curious dream as well).
He wanted to meet people from all walks of life and learn about the world through a simple adventure.
The video took 3 months to shoot and 2 years to create (although Benjamin's a hitchhiker and wasn't slaving away for 12 hours a day or anything :).
This video is just the start of his adventures to live an exciting, wise life and you can find free lessons to help you start traveling at http://www.adventuresauce.com/2012/03/vimeo/.

THE BEGINNING OF INFINITY

"The adjacent possible is a kind of shadow future, hovering on the edges of the present state of things, a map of all the ways in which the present can reinvent itself." - Steven Johnson

INSPIRATION:
This video is inspired, in part, by the ideas explored in David Deutsch’s new book, THE BEGINNING OF INFINITY. We hope it moves you.
"The topographical shape and the material constitution of the upper surface of the island of Manhattan, as it exists today, is much less a matter of geology than it is of economics and politics and human psychology. The effects of geological forces were trumped (you might say) by other forces — forces that proved themselves, in the fullness of time, physically stronger. Deutsch thinks the same thing must in the long run be true of the universe as a whole. Stuff like gravitation and dark energy are the sorts of things that determine the shape of the cosmos only in its earliest, and most parochial, and least interesting stages. The rest is going to be a matter of our own intentional doing.." - David Alpert on David Deutsch's new book.
"Some time in the last fifty thousand years, with the invention of culture, the biological evolution of humans ceased and evolution became an epigenetic, cultural phenomenon... technology is the real skin of our species. Humanity, correctly seen in the context of the last five hundred years, is an extruder of technological material. We take in matter that has a low degree of organization; we put it through mental filters, and we extrude jewelry, gospels, space shuttles. This is what we do. We are like coral animals embedded in a technological reef of extruded psychic objects." - Terence Mckenna
**
In our work, we use the tools of editing: we juxtapose 'transcalar' imagery, cutting and overlapping the very small and the very large... From the nano to the galactic, stretching and compressing time, we feature time lapse to reveal the repetitive and recurring patterns across different scales of reality. The aim is to provide multiple perspectives all at once, whose simultaneous presentation might cause spontaneous epiphanies. “These patterns are omnipresent, but only when we see these patterns in a more compressed mode of presentation to we start to attend to them as such.” -- This is KEY!
Paul Stamet's superb book, Mycelium Running, begins with a discussion of what Stamets calls the mycelial archetype. He compares the mushroom mycelium with the overlapping information-sharing systems that comprise the Internet, with the networked neurons in the brain, and with a computer model of dark matter in the universe. All share this densely intertwingled filamental structure.
A recent profile of Stephen Johnson on Dumbo Feather described his work like this:
“Johnson uses ‘The Long Zoom’ to define the way he looks at the world—if you concentrate on any one level, there are patterns that you miss. When you step back and simultaneously consider, say, the sentience of a slime mold, the cultural life of downtown Manhattan and the behaviour of artificially intelligent computer code, new patterns emerge."
On their own, these areas of study are fascinating. Together, a more profound view takes shape.
The article continues, "Put simply: cities are like ant colonies are like software is like slime molds are like evolution is like disease is like sewage systems are like poetry is like the neural pathways in our brain. Everything is connected.”
PERFORMING PHILOSOPHY:
Our stated goal is to re-ignite the art of the "performing philosophers" ... like Timothy Leary and Buckminster Fuller... A post on Space Collective wrote about “thinkers who act as substantial agents of change, who drastically alter the infocologies they interact with, in the process transforming and meshing the different dimensions in which our minds operate.”
We care about the pleasures derived in forming new connections, mash-ups and innovative solutions for the next step in human evolution.
We are working to articulate our understanding through the creation of recombinant media mashups meant to epiphanize audiences----the creating and sharing of awe; "performance philosophy" in an age of collapsing boundaries and exponential creativity.
The director of the Imaginary Foundation described our work as “some kind of Ontological DJ'ing, recompiling the source code of western philosophy by mixing and mashing it up into a form of recombinant creativity, which (hopefully) elevates our understanding from the dry and prosaic, into the sensual and transcendent.”
“The goal is to prove a fresh framework and a new narrative to fill our old storytelling needs in our ever-increasing process of self-description

Diary (2010)
'Diary' is a highly personal and experimental film that expresses the subjective experience of my work, and was made as an attempt to locate myself after ten years of reporting. It's a kaleidoscope of images that link our western reality to the seemingly distant worlds we see in the media.

The earth turns and the sun disappears over the horizon. Flip the switch, and the lights go out. Slumber begins and the mind awakens, taking us to places we’ve never been and witnessing things not yet seen or imagined.
From the enchanted powder forests of Japan, the historic streets of Moscow, to the unthawed mountains of Western America, and everywhere in between – Level 1 invites you into our spectrum of reality to see a succession of images, visions, sounds, and sensations quite unlike those of the conscious world.
Experience it for yourself – our dream, our vision of skiing.
After Dark.

The Dark Ages - Part 6 - Men of Cloth, Men of Letters
At its height in the second century AD, the Roman Empire was the beacon of learning, power, and prosperity in the western world. But the once-powerful Rome - rotten to the core by the fifth century - lay open to barbarian warriors who came in wave after wave of invasion, slaughtering, stealing, and ultimately, settling. As chaos replaced culture, Europe was beset by famine, plague, persecutions, and a state of war that was so persistent it was only rarely interrupted by peace. THE DARK AGES profiles those who battled to shape the future, from the warlords whose armies threatened to cause the demise of European society, such as Alaric, Charles the Hammer, and Clovis; to the men and women who valiantly tended the flames of justice, knowledge, and innovation including Charlemagne, St. Benedict, Empress Theodora, and other brave souls who fought for peace and enlightenment. It was in the shadows of this turbulent millennium that the seeds of modern civilization were sown.

Israel: Romney, Obama debate reactions
Israeli and American citizens in Israel have expressed mixed feelings regarding the US presidential candidate's policies towards Israel following the foreign policy debate where President Barack Obama and Republican challenger Mitt Romney clashed over who would better defend Israel's security. Tel Aviv resident Hedva Adiri: "Definitely I believe Obama is better, not only for the Israeli people, for the all Western world. I think he is intellectual and he is liberal, and he really, I think, presents for all people who are for a peaceful world." Romney restated his argument that Obama has been weak in his support of America's most important ally in the region, and criticized the president for not visiting the country since he has been in the White House. American student Pricella Smith: "We feel that the relationship between America and Israel is very important, we don't feel that president Obama has done an adequate job of insuring that that relationship is secure, and so we feel that Mitt Romney is the better choice." While Jewish voters in the United States, who are strongly represented in coastal states such as New York, Florida and California, traditionally vote for the Democrats, American Jews living in Israel, of which there are more than 250000, are more likely to vote for Republicans due to that party's more hawkish foreign policy.
