China's Beidou Satellite Navigation System Operational
For more news and videos visit ➡ english.ntdtv.com Follow us on Twitter ➡ http Add us on Facebook ➡ on.fb.me For more than a decade, China has been creating its own version of the Global Positioning System, or GPS. Well now the basic system is up and running, providing navigation for people in China and neighboring countries. China's indigenous satellite navigation system called Beidou is up and running for people in and around China. It started providing initial operational services, including positioning, navigation and timing Tuesday. The 10th satellite of the network was launched back on December 2nd, putting the finishing touches on the basic structure of the system. Tests were carried out for the past six months. [Yang Qiangwen, China Satellite Navigation System Management Office]: "Firstly we carried out comprehensive tests on all the satellites, including all key machines and equipment, to ensure they can provide continuous service. Secondly, we optimized the positions of all the satellites to ensure the best conditions for operation." Six more satellites will be launched in 2012 to further expand the service area of the Beidou system to most parts of the Asia-Pacific region. [Ran Chengqi, Management Office, China Satellite Navigation System]: "Preliminary tests show that the basic positioning and navigation system of Beidou has reached the set standards and we have officially moved from the test system to the working system. This step marks the transition ...

Advantages and disadvantages of Beidou navigation satellite system
Nowadays, when people want GPS to find their way or help with their businesses they're turning their attention to the Beidou navigation satellite system. You may wonder what makes the Beidou network stands out, CCTV reporter goes to one Beidou operation service center in Beijing to find out more. The thought of sending short messages to crews in the sea is something most people may never think about. The reason is simple, no mobile phone signals.

"Chinese GPS" System (Beidou) Begins Service
China announced on Dec. 27, 2011, that its Beidou Navigation Satellite System had become fully operational, broadcasting timing and navigation services. The announcement means that China can now provide satellite navigation to its civilians and military without the need of the US Global Positioning System (GPS). After the announcement, engineers from Analytical Graphics, Inc. (AGI) modeled, analyzed and visualized the coverage quality of the new system using AGI's space, defense and intelligence software. The above video depicts: • The operational Beidou Navigation Satellite System • The US Global Positioning System (GPS) • The coverage pattern of the Beidou satellites The analysis shows that the current Beidou satellites provide regular coverage over China and the South China Sea, but that they provide very little to no coverage elsewhere in the world. China's Beidou Navigation System Review
China's Beidou Navigation System Review China launched Beidou-1, an experimental regional navigation system, in 2000, making it the third country in the world with an independent satellite navigation system. Over the past five years, China has sent 16 Beidou Navigation Satellites into orbit. Let's review the development of the Beidou regional navigation system over the years. The first Beidou Navigation satellite was launched in April, 2007. It was the initial step in the construction of the Beidou Regional Navigation System. Four years later, in April 2011, China sent the 8th Beidou Navigation satellite into orbit, marking the successful formation of the Beidou Regional Navigation System. China sent the 12th and 13th satellites into orbit in April, 2012. The Beidou Regional Navigation System was fully completed on October 26th, when the 16th satellite was launched. Li Changjiang, chief commander of Beidou Satellite Navigation System, said, "The satellite we designed has a life of only eight years. If we had postponed the efforts to build the system, the first satellite would have expired just as the last one was launched. This has pushed us to complete the deployment within a short period of time." Launching the satellites has required special Long March 3C Series rockets, which are capable of carrying two satellites into space for every rocket. Jiang Jie, chief designer of the Long March 3C series rocket, said, "With this technology, we first separate the upper ...

China's Beidou Navigation System starts service in Asia-Pacific
The China Beidou Navigation System, also known as Compass, has started offering free civilian positioning and navigation services over the Asia-Pacific region. The announcement was made during a press conference on Thursday morning. The Beidou satellite network will provide positioning services with an accuracy of 10 meters, or 33 feet. Speed estimates are within less than one foot per second, and time measurements within 10 nanoseconds. The system has been used in transportation, weather forecasting, hydrological monitoring, and mapping for tests. The Beidou navigation system is developed based on a "three-step" strategy. Currently in its second phase, the system now offers regional service with 16 satellites. It is planned to offer services to global customers with 35 satellites, upon its completion in 2020. Ran Chengqi, director of China Satellite Navigation Office, said, "The Beidou navigation system is fully capable of providing navigation, positioning, and timing services covering China and its neighbouring region. The Beidou system is compatible with the GPS program of the US, and the GLONASS system of Russia. This system can improve the accuracy and user experience for users who already get services from GPS and GLONASS. The Beidou navigation system is special since it allows short messaging communication. Users not only can know their location, but that of their friends and they can communicate with friends using short messages."

CHINA LAUNCHES BEIDOU NAVIGATION SATELLITE SYSTEM
A big step has been reached with the launch of China's own navigational satellite system. It's called Beidou, which means "compass", and - for the time being - it only covers the Asia-pacific region. But it does bring the region one step closer to ridding itself from the dependence on the GPS system operated by the United States.

8th orbiter important for Beidou navigation satellite network
Sunday's launch puts the final touches on the basic Beidou navigation satellite network. The eighth Beidou orbiter benefits from the advanced technologies used in the previous seven satellites. The successful launch of this orbiter marks a new chapter in China's history of navigation technology. A symbolic milestone in the creation of the Beidou navigation satellite network. After the successful launch, the navigation system will provide services for mapping, transport, meteorology and telecommunication industries in the Asia Pacific region.

China Launches Positioning Satellite: 11th Launch for China's BeiDou (Compass) Navigation System
China launched the eleventh satellite for its new global positioning system, which is analogous to the American GPS and Russian GLONASS systems. The Chinese satellite network is called the BeiDou, or Compass, Navigation System. The first ten satellites provide coverage only for the Chinese region, but a total of 35 satellites scheduled to be online by 2020 will provide a truly global network.

China Launches Second COMPASS Navigation Satellite Beidou-2 G2
April 15, 2009 - Xichang Satellite Launch Center. China successfully launched its second navigation satellite early Wednesday, as part of the country's independent global satellite navigation system. The carrier rocket, Long March 3C, blasted off from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in southwest China's Sichuan Province at 0:16 am. An official with the National Engineering Center of Satellite Navigation told Xinhua, the successful launch of the geostationary Earth orbit satellite was of great importance as it was the second one of the country's satellite navigation system independent from foreign technology. The system, code named "COMPASS", is a crucial part of the country's space infrastructure for providing navigation and positioning services in transportation, meteorology, petroleum prospecting, forest fire monitoring, disaster forecast, telecommunications and public security among others. It can bring significant social and economic benefits, the official said. The system can help clients know their location at any time and place with accurate longitude, latitude and altitude data, and will offer "safer" positioning, velocity, timing communications for authorized users. Previous reports said China planed to complete its independent global satellite navigation system by launching about 30 more orbiters before 2015, with 10 navigation satellites into the space in 2009 and 2010. The current Compass system only provides regional navigation service within China and ...
