My custom arcade cabinet - "Rainy Days"
My custom arcade cabinet - "Rainy Days"
So, after countless hours of work I have finally finished my 2nd arcade cabinet which I have decided to name "Rainy Days" (after all, it's on rainy days you want to stay inside and play arcade games, right?). :) This is a custom 2-player arcade/MAME cabinet with 7 buttons for each player, an arcade spinner, a 3" arcade trackball and a dedicated 4-way joystick for classic games like Donkey Kong, Frogger etc. The cabinet features a 27" Wells Gardner D9800 arcade monitor and an ArcadeVGA2 graphics card for authentic retro gaming. The complete worklog (with tons of pictures) can be viewed here: www.arcadeforum.com -- Your comments will be appreciated a lot. Thanks for watching! :) -- Background music used in this video: Mongo Erectus - Commando (Kill all hippies version) - (from remix.kwed.org) Moonove - Thanatos - (from remix.kwed.org)

B15SDMDESIGNS CUSTOM VEWLIX ARCADE CABINET "BEWLIX" PS3 XBOX 360 PC
B15SDMDESIGNS CUSTOM VEWLIX ARCADE CABINET "BEWLIX" PS3 XBOX 360 PC
This is a custom arcade cabinet I built for myself. It is closely based on the Taito Vewlix cabinet interms of overall dimensions except my version is slightly wider to ensure that there is no elbow fights during heated 2 player game play. I liked the original Vewlix cabinet but I had already seen alot of replicas and thought that if I was going to make one I will make it more unique. I have taken the original sharp/bevelled looking design and put alot more curves in certain places to make it flow alot better. Instead of the red coloiurs normally used on Vewlix machines I have opted for teal. This cabinet uses a 32" Panasonic lcd tv which I must say plays pretty much lag free in game mode so I am very happy with that. The cabinet will accept any console and plays through Sanwa JLF sticks and Seimitsu PS-14-KN buttons. Both of which have leds which light up upon activation. I had the metal frame for the base made up of thick aluminium along with castor wheels so it can be wheeled about if it needs to be moved. The control panel can be lifted up for easy access to the internals for ease of repair or replacement of components. I have also added a touch screen digital photo frame for the top of the cabinet so that I can upload movelists and game logos into it. Here is a link to the worklog I created for reference. shoryuken.com Big thanks goes to the following and if I missed you out I am very sorry. Defend Earth from alien invaders one coin at a time. This pseudo-bank is a cool way to save coins or get your coworkers to fork over some cash for arcade gaming time. MAME Arcade Cabinet
MAME Arcade Cabinet
UPDATE: 2/15/2012 Who wants to have a Killer Instinct tournament!?? Let's do this thing! It's something I've been wanting to do for a while... hit me up if you're interested and SPREAD THE WORD to anyone you know that loves KI! Built this beast a few weeks ago. It was Primal Rage originally. The only thing left in the cabinet when I bought it was the (awesome) coin door, some wires, and the marquee light. The brain of the box is an Xbox (180... or 1... or original) running UnleashX. The "monitor" is a Phillips 26" CRT TV hooked up via component video cables. I used a set of computer speakers with a subwoofer for the sound. A nice feature of the cabinet is the predrilled subwoover area near the coin door. That's a win. As mentioned it is set up to use original SNES, Genesis and NES controllers if you so desire. Comes in handy for the retro games. Stole the paint from this! www.thinkgeek.com I've thought about commissioning these things to spread the love, so if you're in Houston and you want one hit me up!

64-bit MAME Arcade Cabinet with 4 Player Control Panel (watch in HD!)
64-bit MAME Arcade Cabinet with 4 Player Control Panel (watch in HD!)
Cabinet: Slik Stik (now defunct?) cabinet with four 8-way joysticks and 7 buttons each. The trackball and spinner are recognized by the OS as additional mice/mouses. The black joystick is a dedicated 4-way to play early 80's games the way they were meant to... although it's a little out of the way. Audio/Visual: The display is a real arcade 27" multi-sync by Wells Gardner (D9400). Audio is piped through a bass unit inside the cab and two cheap but great Sony Xplod SX-R1311 5 1/4" 160 watt speakers just underneath the marquee. Computer: Everything's driven by an Intel Core2Duo E6300 overclocked to 2.45ghz paired with an ATI x700. By late 2008, you can get this combo with mobo and accessories for $250 or less. If you only want to run MAME, you can get by with just a little more than enough RAM to boot your OS. It doesn't need much. This one has just a couple of gb so some of the other emulators and media apps can run a little better. OS / Software: MAME v0.127 with some of the popular patches like high score, and no nag startups, were compiled 64-bit and ran on Windows XP x64. This gives a pretty consistent boost in performance in MAME. I originally tried to run Vista x64 instead but I'm running Soft15Khz (please donate to sailorsat!) to drive the monitor at old arcade resolutions and 15khz refresh. It replaces the need to have a vga to jamma video or arcadevga video card. Unfortunately as of this writing, soft15khz does not work in 64-bit vista. The front end is MALA with ...
