Working Model of Stephenson's STEAM ENGINE made of GLASS ! Rare!
This Model of Stephenson's Steam Engine was made in 2008 by master glassblower Michal Zahradník. Highlights: * The crankshaft is glass. The piston is glass. The counterweight that makes the wheel spin evenly is glass. Imagine that everything is made out of glass. * There are no sealants used. All is accomplished by a perfectly snug fit. The gap between the piston and its compartment is so small, that the water that condensates from the steam seals it shut! * Notice the elaborate excessive steam exhaust system next to the piston. * The piston is the most arduous part to make due to to extreme level of precision needed. Its parts have to be so accurate that no machinery is of use here. The piston and its cylinder must be hand sanded to perfection, and they are very likely to crack in the process! On average, three out of four crack.

Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye
written and recorded by studio musicians Garrett Scott, Dale Frashuer, and producer/writer Paul Leka at Mercury studios in New York City. When it topped the charts, Leka put together a band called Steam and sent them out on tour in support of the song. In 1970, the "Steam" was let out of the band and the band disbanded. They left a legacy though that is still heard at sporting events worldwide whenever a team wins a game. Enjoy!

..." style="float: right; margin-right: -5px;">
A Travel Air 2000 biplane made the world's first piloted flight under steam power over Oakland, California, on 12 April 1933. The strangest feature of the flight was its relative silence; spectators on the ground could hear the pilot when he called to them from mid-air. The aircraft, piloted by William Besler, had been fitted with a two-cylinder, 150 hp reciprocating engine. An important contribution to its design was made by Nathan C. Price, a former Doble Steam Motors engineer. Price was working on high pressure compact engines for rail and road transport; the purpose of the flight was to obtain publicity for this work. Following its unexpectedly favourable reception Price went to Boeing and worked on various aviation projects, but Boeing dropped the idea of a steam aeroengine in 1936. Price later worked for Lockheed where his experience with developing compact burners for steam boilers helped to design Lockheed's first jet engine. The advantages of the "Besler System" that were claimed at the time included the elimination of audible noise and destructive vibration; greater efficiency at low engine speeds and also at high altitudes where lower air temperatures assisted condensation; reduced likelihood of engine failure; reduced maintenance costs; reduced fuel costs, since fuel oil was used in place of petrol; reduced fire hazard since the fuel was less volatile and operating temperatures were lower; and a lack of need for radio shielding. For capacities in excess of ...

Helvetia's Dream
Lesen Sie auf deutsch bitte weiter unten weiter...
‘Helvetia’s Dream’ takes you on a nighttime journey to some of the most beautiful spots in the Swiss Alps – from Arosa to Zermatt, including the world famous mountains Matterhorn and Eiger.
Please pay special attention to the following scenes:
@0:46 watch the persistent train of a bright meteor above Tijerflue Mountain in Arosa, December 2010, which was visible for about 20 minutes. A slow motion effect is applied for better visibility of the shooting star and its trail of ‘smoke’, which consists of ionized gas left behind as the meteor burns up in the atmosphere.
@1:14 clouds above Lake Geneva steam up the lens.
@1:36 on the very left: Climbers step into the unpredictable Eiger Nordwand.
@1:44 the Milky Way rises above the ‘Donkey’ rock on Pilatus.
@1:58 snowcats nearby cause the lighting of the summit cross on Fronalpstock Mountain. (Snowcat lights usually spoil time-lapse)
@2:21 the wind changes the reflection of Säntis Mountain in the Seealpsee.
@2:35 three settings showing orbits of stars. This is an alternative technique to display the movement of stars by sequentially adding the luminosity of each exposure. The result is basically a long exposure with a large aperture.
@2:49 the waxing new moon, not full moon, setting over Pilatus.
For the "making of" information and photo gallery check out the project website www.helvetiabynight.com.
‘Helvetia by Night’ is a time-lapse project about Switzerland by night. Short videos of long nights present you the stunning beauty of the Swiss Alps and show you the magic of a spectacular nighttime sky. Imagine watching a slide-show at fast speed or looking at a flip book. It is photography turning into a movie. Everything in the videos is real and happening out there while most of us are sleeping.
Some words about me:
I grew up in Arosa, a small paradise in the mountains of eastern Switzerland located 1800m above sea level. Inspired by such great scenery, photography has become my passion early in life. Since 2005 I work as press photographer for the Swiss press photo agency KEYSTONE in Zurich. Time-lapse photography became a favorite hobby of mine in the year 2011. Besides that I am doing some other private work which can be found here: www.dellabella.ch
Have fun watching the time-lapse videos!
‘Helvetias Traum’ ist ein nächtlicher Streifzug durch die Schweizer Alpen – von Arosa bis Zermatt. Zu den Höhepunkten gehören die weltbekannten Berge Matterhorn und Eiger.
Schenken Sie folgenden Szenen besondere Aufmerksamkeit:

A joint collaboration with rock / ambient / experimental band MONO (www.monoishere.com), Legend takes you on an epic 12 minute visual and aural journey through Iceland's breathtaking landscapes during the time of the midnight sun.
The film travels across Iceland, from the floating blue icebergs of Jokulsarlon's glacial lagoon to the steaming geothermic vents of Myvatn, the colorful mountains of Landmannalaugar to the breathtaking sunsets on Snaefellnes Peninsula, and the barren volcanic landscapes of Askja to the vast fields of lupin near Husavik.
Legend was shot over a 2 week period in June 2012 when the sun barely sets below the horizon and you never see darkness. It was filmed completely in 5K resolution using Canon full frame DSLRs on motion timelapse equipment from Kessler Crane.
Mono's score of the same name, Legend, is from their upcoming album "For my parents". Its edgy cinematic and epic quality helps describe Iceland - a breathtakingly beautiful yet unforgivingly dangerous place.
The album is available for pre-order: http://www.monoishere.com/2012/07/30/pre-order-for-my-parents-now/
We would like to thank the following supporters for making this film possible:

Special thanks to Egill Agustsson and Adalsteinn Petur Karlsson of Husavik for their help with my car problems on Iceland National Day. It's the country's biggest holiday and they helped me get back on the road so I could continue filming.
Last but not least, a big thank you to fellow filmmaker Joe Capra (www.scientifantastic.com) for his guidance and inspiration. His tips and advice were invaluable in helping me prepare for this trip.
A 4K version will be released soon! Please follow or subscribe to us to receive the latest updates.

Diego Stocco - Music From A Dry Cleaner
Almost everyday, on my way to a local bakery, I walk in front of a dry cleaners.
When they have the front door open, I hear a lot of interesting sounds coming from their work equipment. Eventually, the different mechanical and steam sounds sparked something in my mind, so one day I asked the owners if I could record a piece of music by using their machines as musical instruments.
I used a puff iron, press and dry cleaning machines, a washer, clothes hangers, and a bucket full of soap.
The bass and lead sounds were created from the buzzing tones coming from the conduits and engines.
There are no additional sounds from any traditional or electronic instruments. Enjoy!
More info and pictures are available at the Behance gallery: http://www.behance.net/gallery/Music-from-a-Dry-Cleaner/2161629
UPDATE 12/16/11: I'll present "Music from a Dry Cleaner" mixed in 11.1 at the DTS booth at CES 2012. Here's a short video from the mixing session: http://vimeo.com/33798071

Sibley Iowa's BEST OLD STEAM LOCOMOTIVE VIDEO 2008 PART 1
This is Part 1. Part 2 is: www.youtube.com American Locomotive Company's Largest Operating Steam Locomotive passed through Sibley Iowa today, Oct 1, 2008 "Challenger" (No.3985) is on a 1750 mile, 5 state tour that will end back in St. Paul Minnesota, where it began 16 days ago. It was built in 1943, and it was an amazing machine to watch, as you will see in this video. Here is the link for the Specs and history www.uprr.com We felt like we were in the old days of Bonnie and Clyde or Butch Cassidy and the Sundance kid. It was exciting and we hope you enjoy this wild ride with us. One of the neatest websites from Union Pacific is this one on how the "Big boy" steam locomotive engines work with a virtual interactive steam locomotive to watch. Very neat to visit here. www.geocities.com Please subscribe and pass on this video to any train buffs you may know. Coins have been put on rails for years. IN fact you can go to the train Museum in Sacramento and buy a FLATTENED Penny with a symbol of a train on it. ALSO, NEVER in history has a train ever been de-railed by a coin! Especially a 1.08 Million LB train! IN fact you can get one FLATTENED with a train Symbol on it at the Train Museum in Sacramento, California, it is such a common thing. Thanks to Ilea "Bonnie" for the great driving, and thanks to you the viewers for watching. Best regards, "Bonnie and Clyde"
