Amphibole Group (Hornblende).mp4
The mineral is Hornblende and it is a member of the Amphibole Family of minerals. Its distinguishing features, as shown in the video is its cleavage directions. Note that as the mineral rotates, a flash of light is seen from the top of the specimen. Not also the reflection of the white paper from faces along the bottom of the crystal. These two different cleavage directions are about 60 degrees apart. This cleavage angle distinguishes it from the similar mineral Augite. The grid pattern below consists of one inch squares.

manganese rocks
Water oxidation catalysed by manganese compounds: from complexes to 'biomimetic rocks':ww27.psui.cn Manganese:ww27.psui.cn Kalahari Manganese Field:ww27.psui.cn Mineralogy and genesis of the metamorphosed manganese silicate rocks (gondite):ww27.psui.cn Desert/Rock Varnish Ferromanganese:ww27.psui.cn The metal is very occasionally used in coins; until , the only United States coin to use manganese was the "wartime" nickel from --.[36] An alloy of 75% copper and 25% nickel was traditionally used for the production of nickel coins. However, because of shortage of nickel metal during the war, it was substituted by more available silver and manganese, thus resulting in an alloy of 56% copper, 35% silver and 9% manganese. Since , dollar coins, for example the Sacagawea dollar and the Presidential $1 coins, are made from a brass containing 7% of manganese with a pure copper core.[37] In both cases of nickel and dollar, the use of manganese in the coin was to duplicate the electromagnetic properties of a previous identically sized and valued coin, for vending purposes. In the case of the later US dollar coins, the manganese alloy was an attempt to duplicate properties of the copper/nickel alloy used in the previous Susan B. Anthony dollar. The isotopes of manganese range in atomic weight from 46 u (46Mn) to 65 u (65Mn). The primary decay mode before the most abundant stable isotope, 55Mn, is electron capture and the primary mode after is beta decay.[3] Manganese silicate rocks ...

Julia Cave - A Secret Cave of Crystals
JC and I were privileged to be shown a hidden treasure - a cave more secretive and wonderful even than the illusive Roots Cave. Within the cave amphibole and apatite crystals lie loose and protruding from the walls - it is unlike anything that I have ever seen. This is a natural treasure.

What Is Asbestos?
Asbestos was once known as the "miracle mineral" because it is cheaply mined and has extraordinary ability to withstand heat, but what exactly is asbestos and why do we now know it as the mineral that kills?
