Classic Rewind's look at the 1987 Indy car season continues with Round 7 of the CART PPG IndyCar World Series - the Budweiser Grand Prix of Cleveland from Burke Lakefront Airport. Bobby Rahal entered the event looking for his third-straight win, but found himself locked in a duel with Emerson Fittipaldi. The pair made their final pit stops with 23 laps remaining and both tried to stretch their tanks to the end.

2006 world champ car series round 6 cleveland ohio part 1......The Grand Prix of Cleveland was an open wheel automobile racing event in the Champ Car World Series, held annually at Burke Lakefront Airport in Cleveland, Ohio, United States of America. The 2006 race, held on June 25, marked the 25th anniversary of the event. With the absorption of the Champ Car series into the rival Indy Racing League, the 2008 race was cancelled, talks have begun to bring the race back as part of an all-star weekend featuring an oval race and a road race the next day.[1]
Normally a fully-functioning airport year-round, Burke Lakefront Airport is shut down for the week leading up to the event each year, requiring careful maintenance of the runways in order to keep them safe for cars at high speeds. Even so, drivers regularly note the race is one of the toughest to drive in the Champ Car series as the track, designed for aircraft and not lightweight race cars, makes for a bumpy ride where grip is paramount. When you look at track configuration from a helicopter or in the air, the track is in the shape of a CART racing car. At the first turn, it often the trickiest and most accident prone parts of the race. Many drivers have known this fact and still been eliminated from the race due to this turn.
According to the City of Cleveland and the Cleveland Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Grand Prix of Cleveland grosses $30-50 million dollars to the Northeast Ohio economy. Hotels in Downtown Cleveland and outlying suburbs like Independence, Ohio which is a 8-minute ride to Downtown Cleveland make out. Some 100,000-150,000 people take in the festivities of the race. There are some 1,000 media passes distributed for the race. The race could be seen in Canada, Europe, and other locations. There are rock concerts, contests and from 1982-1999, there was a kickoff parade for the race. The parade was postponed in 2000 due to a Cleveland Patrol Officer who was killed in the line of duty. The parade was supposed to be held at same time as the officer's funeral, but out of respect the parade was cancelled. The parade would like to return but with construction of the Euclid Avenue Corridor the parade is looking for an alternate way.
No other active airport in the United States hosts such an event, making the Grand Prix of Cleveland unique in all forms of American motorsport.

The 2007 Champ Car World Series comes to the 5th round of the championship, the Champ Car Grand Prix of Cleveland. To date, it is the last running of the Cleveland open-wheel race, but I hope in the future it can find a place on the IndyCar schedule once again. This race was action-packed with lots of incidents. This was CBS's only race of the 2007 season and it is also to date the last Champ Car/IndyCar race that I've seen on CBS. The quality is a bit iffy as it is my last video recorded on my really old TV.
Paul Tracy was being his aggressive self early in the race, getting himself into two separate accidents. He somehow recovered to take what is probably his last win in American open wheel racing.

The 2006 Royal London Watches Grand Prix was a professional ranking snooker tournament that took place between 21 and 29 October 2006 at the A.E.C.C. in Aberdeen, Scotland.
Neil Robertson won his first ranking title by defeating Jamie Cope 9–5 in the final.

Grand Prix of Cleveland
The Grand Prix of Cleveland was an Indy car event in the CART series, held annually at Burke Lakefront Airport in Cleveland, Ohio. The race celebrated its milestone 25th anniversary in 2006. The race was most recently held in 2007. After the 2008 open wheel unification, the 2008 race had to be cancelled. Attempts to revive the race have not yet come to fruition.
Normally a fully functioning airport year-round, Burke Lakefront Airport was shut down for the week leading up to the event each year, requiring careful maintenance of the runways in order to keep them safe for cars at high speeds. Even so, drivers regularly note the race was one of the toughest to drive in the Champ Car series as the track, designed for aircraft and not lightweight race cars, makes for a bumpy ride where grip is paramount. The first turn was often the trickiest and most accident prone parts of the race. Many drivers have been eliminated from the race due to this turn.
Throughout its history, the race was very popular amongst fans, as the long, wide, runways (much wider and longer than typical natural road courses and other temporary circuits) allowed for side-by-side racing, fast speeds, and superb passing zones. The layout and overall flatness of the circuit also allowed a view of nearly the entire course from the grandstands.

Cleveland
Cleveland (/ˈkliːvlənd/ KLEEV-lənd) is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Cuyahoga County, the most populous county in the state. The city is located in northeastern Ohio on the southern shore of Lake Erie, approximately 60 miles (100 kilometers) west of the Pennsylvania border. During an incident involving three drivers, Bourdais ended up blacking out after a car landed on top of his vehicle. Paul Tracy, who won the event in 2005, says he hopes a standing start will help mitigate congestion going into the first turn of the race -- a turn that has proven tricky for most. This year, Bourdais and other drivers say in addition to training for the race in general, they are preparing for Turn 1 in particular. The Grand Prix of Cleveland will take place June 22-24. -

Cleveland Grand Prix 2006 Turn One Start
16-Jun-2007] In 2006, Sebastian Bourdais wasn't the only driver to have difficulties with the turns at the Grand Prix of Cleveland. During an incident involving three drivers, Bourdais ended up blacking out after a car landed on top of his vehicle. Paul Tracy, who won the event in 2005, says he hopes a standing start will help mitigate congestion going into the first turn of the race -- a turn that has proven tricky for most. This year, Bourdais and other drivers say in addition to training for the race in general, they are preparing for Turn 1 in particular. The Grand Prix of Cleveland will take place June 22-24.

There are some 1,000 media passes distributed for the race. The race could be seen in Canada, Europe, and other locations. There are rock concerts, contests and from 1982-1999, there was a kickoff parade for the race. The parade was postponed in 2000 due to a Cleveland Patrol Officer who was killed in the line of duty. The parade was supposed to be held at same time as the officer's funeral, but out of respect the parade was cancelled. The parade would like to return but with construction of the Euclid Avenue Corridor the parade is looking for an alternate way.
No other active airport in the United States hosts such an event, making the Grand Prix of Cleveland unique in all forms of American motorsport.

This was CBS's only race of the 2007 season and it is also to date the last Champ Car/IndyCar race that I've seen on CBS. The quality is a bit iffy as it is my last video recorded on my really old TV.
Paul Tracy was being his aggressive self early in the race, getting himself into two separate accidents. He somehow recovered to take what is probably his last win in American open wheel racing.

Eric Scott Esch (born August 3, 1966), commonly referred to as Butterbean, is an American boxer, kickboxer, mixed martial artist and professional wrestler who competes in the Heavyweight division. Esch transitioned to professional boxing in 1994 following a successful stint on the Toughman Contest scene and went on to capture the World Athletic Association (WAA) heavyweight and IBA super heavyweight championships. Beginning in 2003, he began fighting regularly as a kickboxer and mixed martial artist, most notably in K-1 and the Pride Fighting Championships. The energy just emanates off the screen as you watch these great musicians groove with one of the worlds most influential guitarists. I can feel it now, Who"s been foolin' who? Open your eyes and take a look at your heart, Wow. I can see it yeah!
I watched out in the audience... this was one of my favorite songs the band was playing, not only in music but in message!!! I hope you will enjoy this as much as I have....

My advice is this: Settle! That's right. Don't worry about passion or intense connection. Don't nix a guy based on his annoying habit of yelling "Bravo!" in movie theaters. Overlook his halitosis or abysmal sense of aesthetics. Because if you want to have the infrastructure in place to have a family, settling is the way to go. Based on my observations, in fact, settling will probably make you happier in the long run, since many of those who marry with great expectations become more disillusioned with each passing year. (It's hard to maintain that level of zing when the conversation morphs into discussions about who's changing the diapers or balancing the checkbook.)
Obviously, I wasn't always an advocate of settling. In fact, it took not settling to make me realize that settling is the better option, and even though settling is a rampant phenomenon, talking about it in a positive light makes people profoundly uncomfortable. Whenever I make the case for settling, people look at me with creased brows of disapproval or frowns of disappointment, the way a child might look at an older sibling who just informed her that Jerry's Kids aren't going to walk, even if you send them money. It's not only politically incorrect to get behind settling, it's downright un-American. Our culture tells us to keep our eyes on the prize (while our mothers, who know better, tell us not to be so picky), and the theme of holding out for true love (whatever that is—look at the divorce rate) permeates our collective mentality.
Even situation comedies, starting in the 1970s with The Mary Tyler Moore Show and going all the way to Friends, feature endearing single women in the dating trenches, and there's supposed to be something romantic and even heroic about their search for true love. Of course, the crucial difference is that, whereas the earlier series begins after Mary has been jilted by her fiancé, the more modern-day Friends opens as Rachel Green leaves her nice-guy orthodontist fiancé at the altar simply because she isn't feeling it. But either way, in episode after episode, as both women continue to be unlucky in love, settling starts to look pretty darn appealing. Mary is supposed to be contentedly independent and fulfilled by her newsroom family, but in fact her life seems lonely. Are we to assume that at the end of the series, Mary, by then in her late 30s, found her soul mate after the lights in the newsroom went out and her work family was disbanded? If her experience was anything like mine or that of my single friends, it's unlikely.
And while Rachel and her supposed soul mate, Ross, finally get together (for the umpteenth time) in the finale of Friends, do we feel confident that she'll be happier with Ross than she would have been had she settled down with Barry, the orthodontist, 10 years earlier? She and Ross have passion but have never had long-term stability, and the fireworks she experiences with him but not with Barry might actually turn out to be a liability, given how many times their relationship has already gone up in flames. It's equally questionable whether Sex and the City's Carrie Bradshaw, who cheated on her kindhearted and generous boyfriend, Aidan, only to end up with the more exciting but self-absorbed Mr. Big, will be better off in the framework of marriage and family. (Some time after the breakup, when Carrie ran into Aidan on the street, he was carrying his infant in a Baby Björn. Can anyone imagine Mr. Big walking around with a Björn?)

Classic Rewind's look at the 1987 Indy car season continues with Round 7 of the CART PPG IndyCar World Series - the Budweiser Grand Prix of Cleveland from Burke Lakefront Airport. Bobby Rahal entered the event looking for his third-straight win, but found himself locked in a duel with Emerson Fittipaldi. The pair made their final pit stops with 23 laps remaining and both tried to stretch their tanks to the end.

2007 Grand Prix of Cleveland presented by LaSalle Bank Champ Car World Series Burke Lakefront Airport, Cleveland, OH June 24, 2007 The 2007 Champ Car World Series comes to the 5th round of the championship, the Champ Car Grand Prix of Cleveland. To date, it is the last running of the Cleveland open-wheel race, but I hope in the future it can find a place on the IndyCar schedule once again. This race was action-packed with lots of incidents. This was CBS's only race of the 2007 season and it is also to date the last Champ Car/IndyCar race that I've seen on CBS. Bobby Rahal entered the event looking for his third-straight win, but found himself locked in a duel with Emerson Fittipaldi. The pair made their final pit stops with 23 laps remaining and both tried to stretch their tanks to the end.

The 2007 Champ Car World Series comes to the 5th round of the championship, the Champ Car Grand Prix of Cleveland. To date, it is the last running of the Cleveland open-wheel race, but I hope in the future it can find a place on the IndyCar schedule once again. This race was action-packed with lots of incidents. This was CBS's only race of the 2007 season and it is also to date the last Champ Car/IndyCar race that I've seen on CBS. The quality is a bit iffy as it is my last video recorded on my really old TV.
Paul Tracy was being his aggressive self early in the race, getting himself into two separate accidents. He somehow recovered to take what is probably his last win in American open wheel racing.
