On the Front Line Fighting Corruption in Palestine (1)
'On the Front Line' is a new documentary from Transparency International highlighting the excellent work of its Palestinian chapter in offering legal assistance to individuals and organisation. The film is timely, given tectonic shifts in the Middle East and the development of Palestinian institutions. Over half of all Palestinians using government services reported having to pay a bribe according to TI's 2010 Global Corruption Barometer. Without a dedicated complaint channel and expert advice, most people can do little to counter the problem. That is why TI has set up legal advice centres in Palestine and in many other countries. 'On the Front Line' looks, among others, at the story of a Ministry of Transport employee who, together with the centre, has led a campaign to crack down on the misuse of government cars for private purposes, resulting in many millions of dollars in savings for the Palestinian Authority. The film also interviews a man whose two sons were shot by a renegade policeman who long managed to evade the law, as well as a civil servant who was denied severance pay and medical benefits after falling victim to a political shakeup. The centre helps bring the discussion of corruption into the open. This discussion is fundamental to the centre's success and to establishing robust corruption prevention policies. TransparencyIntl

The Magician - Transparency International
A hundred dollar bill, your money, dissapears in a puff of smoke. Magic? Impenetrable mystery? Think again. It's just plain theft. Watch again in slow motion and we see where the money goes. Corruption is hidden by those who profit from it - but you *can* reveal the mystery, and make the corrupt accountable for their theft.

Off The Record [Shaikh Rasheed and Transparency International Pakistan] 26th October 2010 part 3
Rs 300 billion corruption but NAB fails to respond The News October 26,2010 ISLAMABAD: On the eve of a new global report on corruption, the Transparency International Pakistan has claimed that the TIP alone has identified corruption cases worth Rs 300 billion in different federal government departments during one year. Talking to The News Chairman TIP Adil Gilani lamented that the government did not show any interest in probing these cases of corruption. He, however, said that it was only the Supreme Court of Pakistan, the Public Accounts Committee of the National Assembly and the PPRA, which took notice of some of these corruption cases. He explained that generally the identified corruption cases involved violation of the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) Rules of 2004. The Transparency International is releasing its report on Tuesday at 2 pm amid indications that Pakistan is all set to hit further lows amongst the world's most corrupt nations. The 2009 report showed Pakistan climbing five numbers from the previous 47 to become the 42nd most corrupt country in the world. Gilani expressed his disappointment that there was no effective accountability apparatus presently operational in Pakistan due to which corruption was on the rise. He explained that the TIP referred a number of corruption cases to the NAB but it did not proceed even in one single case. Amongst the mega corruption cases, he said the Rental Power Projects of the government, presently under the ...

Marilyn Monroe: The Red Velvet
Dita Daniel is about to recreate Marilyn Monroe's first photo series, the one that launched her career, as well as Playboy Magazine's. The result will be a documentary film and an exhibition that will be presented in Israel and around the world. Camera-front nudity is not new to Daniel, artist, model, actress and homeopathic healer, who uses her body as a basis for her paintings By Ran Ziv
On my way to the interview with Adit (Dita) Daniel (43), I heard on the radio a program dedicated to the concept of a "woman". How symbolic that this concept was to be the very focus of our conversation: Daniel, an artist, an actress and a colorful model, who also deals with homeopathic healing, Tai Chi and Chi Kong, is soon about to cope with the image of the mythological woman, Marilyn Monroe. Nearly 60 years after Monroe's first nude photo series, which launched her career and acted as a trigger for the sexual revolution of the 50's in the USA and across the world, Daniel will recreate the "Red Velvet" series. The shooting will take place in the very same studios, by the son of the original photographer, Tom Kelley Jr. The recreation will be a part of a documentary film that Daniel is preparing and the photo series will be presented afterwards in exhibitions in Israel and in California.
Marilyn Monroe's Picture
At age 6 Daniel saw Marilyn Monroe's photo for the first time and was fascinated. It was the photo called "Position No. 1" which also appeared on the cover of Playboy Magazine's first issue ever, in 1953. "She mesmerized me" says Daniel. At the time, her parents ran a prestigious women's clothing shop in Holon, named after her mother, Nina. "Mother was painting, sewing and designing", she says, "so there were always magazines in the house with pretty models, and I would sit and leaf through them for hours. I liked the beauty, the colorfulness and the harmony". And then she saw Marilyn Monroe.
When Daniel was 10 years old, her father, Moshe, an artistic carpenter, received a nude painting from one of his customers, painter Ester Peretz-Arad: "It was the first nude in our house. I realized immediately that the language of nudity was the language of art." At age 6 Daniel had been diagnosed as a gifted child in the areas of art. Following the diagnosis her parents sent her to study in a special art classes for gifted children in the Tel-Aviv Museum.
From there she continued on to “Thelma Yelin”, High School for the Arts.
"They had great expectations of me, and I also possessed a lot of curiosity and inquisitiveness. On one hand, I was shy, introspective, ugly and fat. I began suffering from eating disorders at a young age. On the other hand, I posed nude for the first time at age 14. I wanted to study art from both ends, both as an artist and as a model."
Daniel continued to meet with nudity along her career, and this interaction helped crystallize her philosophy, related to Adam and Eve and their banishment from The Garden of Eden. "I was bothered by the existence of evil in the world, and especially by the question of why the woman is being punished until today. It seems we are to blame for what happened to mankind. I could not accept the idea that our whole existence as women is the embodiment of evil and that it is all cast upon us.
I, for one, feel wholesome and that there is no evil in me. So I took my clothes off and started taking photos of me. I feel too transparent as it is. I felt I didn't need dividers between me and the rest of the world, and certainly not between myself and God. I am not religious, but I do believe a high-level intelligence exists in the cosmos, not necessarily a divinity according to Judaism."
Marilyn Monroe's Energy
Daniel began painting Eve, Venus and Aphrodite. In her eyes they, just like Marilyn Monroe, represent the progression of the same woman and symbolize unconditional love, beauty and harmony. In her opinion, they are also related to the "Golden Section", that mystical mathematical relationship (of about 1.618) used in art and in architecture since the time of Classic Greece. Many see in its very existence proof that the world is a planned act of creation. Some refer to it, since the Renaissance period, as the "Divine Proportion".
She considers herself as a Renaissance-world painter. "In those days, a painter could also be a doctor and a poet. They understood that in the mind of an artist like Leonardo Da Vinci or Michelangelo could reside several different skills simultaneously. The thread uniting all those skills is art."
Why should a nude soul be painted?
"The by-product reaction to art is healing. It is the soul passing. Our aspiration is to return to Eden. The original sin is referring to the shell, to nudity. In my paintings there is no evil, but reality as it was before sin and guilt and sexual lust, before the appearance of destructive lust."

Cardi-Body, from Russia with love...
Cardi-Body & Cardi-Curara...

Transparency International on Jan Lokpal bill
In an exclusive interview with NDTV's Shweta Rajpal Kohli, the chair of Transparency International, Huguette Labelle, believes that the Jan Lokpal bill is quite reasonable but the most important part is its implementation. When asked whether the implementation of the bill will improve India's ranking in being seen as less corrupt country, her answer was no.
