1940s Faux Bangs
My second ever vintage hair tutorial, this time it's 40s style faux / bumper bangs! Not quite as big as Dita von Teese's (or her icon Carmen Miranda) but better for those not quite as brave! It could also work for a 50s, Bettie Page style look and it's a perfect pinup girl style. Look out for the comedy fumble at the beginning! If you have any questions, please just ask. I'll be posting this on my blog, do check it out for more 40s fashion and style tips: www.diaryofavintagegirl.com

The 1940's Bride
glamourdaze.blogspot.com and vintagemakeupguide.com Lingerie fit for a Bride. This charming film, narrated by Miss Ratherly Stern was originally a promo for Newform wedding lingerie, made from rayon silk - the synthetic fabric rage of the 1940's, and is a unique example of the vintage wedding trousseau on film. The traditional trousseau, included bridal accessories, lingerie, toiletries, jewelry, and makeup. Up until the 1940's even bed linens and bath towels were bought as part of her wedding regalia for her new home. Footage courtesy Prelinger Archive

1940s Victory Rolls!
I've kept you waiting... and waiting... and waiting... but here it is! My all-singing, all-dancing (not really) victory rolls hair tutorial! This is for the scores of gals who has asked me for instructions on this most classic of vintage hairstyles. This is sadly not the best pair of rolls I've ever done... a bit 'pointy' at the top... but it's good enough for this! Victory rolls were hugely popular in the 1940s, seen on Betty Grable and other stars, as well as girls on the street. This is nothing more than the guide to how I do it on myself and others, it's a technique that works for me. Any questions, do leave them here (or comment on my blog, where it will be posted very soon). The link to my blog is thus: www.diaryofavintagegirl.com Hurrah!

Coney Island of the 1940's
Coney Island, "the place where merriment is king!" Take a trip back in time 50 years before the Mermaid Parade. See masses of old school New Yorkers beat the heat by hitting the beach. See Side Shows! Carnies! Freaks! Thrill rides! Includes the original Coney Island Hot Dog, the Bathing Girl Review, and people getting sick on rides. Not to mention the Tiger Rag, if 1940's Coney Island existed today an insurance agent would have a field day. Still, 1940's Coney Island kicks the ass of most modern amusement parks any day. (This film is forever dedicated to artist and Coney Island mermaid Mary Karam. She is greatly loved and will be sorely missed. - Sept 19, 2009.) See more at: www.weirdovideo.com

In Our Hands - Anti-fascist Film from 1940's (???)
I bought this 35mm short at an estate sale. It appears to be from the 1940's and that main dad character looks like Dana Andrews. I can't find anything about it anywhere. If you have info, please let me know. "In Our Hands"
It's funny how possibly prophetic this movie is.

The 25th Reich Web Teaser 1 HD
A NEW AUSTRALIAN SCI-FI FEATURE FILM:
Introducing a crazy new genre mash-up from Australian director, Stephen Amis (The Real Thing, The Alive Tribe, Oz Encounters, UFO’s in Australia).
With an international cast, state of the art digital effects, and classic vintage styling, The 25th Reich is a rollicking, WWII sci-fi adventure - full of time-travel, duplicitous Nazi robots, faulty spaceships and giant mega-fauna...
Based on the classic novella, 50,000 Years Until Tomorrow by J.J. Solomon, and with a screenplay penned by Amis, David Richardson and Serge DeNardo, the movie is a homage to sci-fi and WWII movies of the 1940's and 50's.
Now in post-production, The 25th Reich was produced in Australia by Lynne Wilson's Peal Productions, Tait Brady's Acme Film Company, and Stephen Amis', Revolution Pictures.
Led by visual effects guru, Sheldon Whittaker, the producers recruited small teams of talented artists across the world to produce hundreds of high-end visual effects - recalling the works of Ray Harryhausen and classic creature-features.
Featuring costume designs by Ian Sparke (The Pacific), special makeup effects by Nik Dorning (Lord of the Rings, Australia, Troy and Knowing), editing by Bill Murphy (Romper Stomper, Mary and Max), a Wagnerian, motif-driven score by Ricky Edwards (Shine, Australia, Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole) and sound design by Chris Goodes (Don't be Afraid of the Dark, Killer Elite).
Starring, Jim Knobeloch (Heaven’s Gate, Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman, Ponderosa), Serge DeNardo (Greeks on the Roof), Angelo Salamanca, Dan Balcaban and Jak Wyld.
The 25th Reich goosesteps into cinemas in 2012...

Progressive Education in the 1940s
This video presents a positive view of progressive education although it begins with a parent complaining that children are not learning the fundamentals. Various educators are seen including famed John Dewey. One skeptic asserts that ideas similar to progressive education caused a collapse of the ancient Greek civilization. Current debates about educational techniques in many respects seem similar to what was occurring in the 1940s.
