Permeable Interlocking Concrete Pavement - Pavements and Water Runoff - NAPS-TV
WHEN RAIN OR SNOWMELT MOVES OVER TRADITIONAL ASPHALT AND CONCRETE, IT PICKS UP AND CARRIES POLLUTANTS INTO LAKES, RIVERS AND WETLANDS. THESE POLLUTANTS HARM DRINKING WATER, RECREATION, FISHERIES AND WILDLIFE. ONE WAY TO CURB RUNOFF AND REDUCE WATER POLLUTION IS WITH PERMEABLE INTERLOCKING CONCRETE PAVEMENT. IT CAN REDUCE SURFACE RUNOFF AS MUCH AS ONE HUNDRED PERCENT. JOINTS BETWEEN THE SOLID PAVERS ARE FILLED WITH SMALL STONES. THESE TAKE IN THE RUNOFF, ALLOWING IT TO FILTER THROUGH THE PAVEMENT BASE AND INFILTRATE INTO THE SOIL BENEATH. PERMEABLE PAVEMENT IS USED FOR COMMERCIAL PARKING LOTS AND LOW-SPEED ROADS, COMMERCIAL AND RESIDENTIAL DRIVEWAYS, PATIOS AND WALKWAYS. THE PAVING UNITS COME IN A RANGE OF SHAPES, COLORS, TEXTURES AND PATTERNS TO COMPLEMENT THE ARCHITECTURE AND NEIGHBORHOOD CHARACTER. THE PAVEMENT DOES NOT HEAVE IN COLD CLIMATES AND RESISTS DAMAGE FROM DEICING MATERIALS. PERMEABLE INTERLOCKING CONCRETE NOT ONLY PROTECTS THE ENVIRONMENT, IT LOOKS GOOD WHILE DOING IT. Stormwater Runoff 101
Urban runoff is a main source of pollution at beaches across the United States. But solutions, known collectively as "green infrastructure" can reduce the amount of polluted water flowing into our oceans, rivers and lakes. These techniques, which are available today, range from green roofs to permeable pavement and roadside plantings. It's a green wave of urban planning that's making for cleaner blue waters. To find if your beaches are clean, please go to www.nrdc.org to explore NRDC's 20th Testing the Waters beachwater quality guide.

Seacrest Cove 1 storm drain run off
On October 3, 2007, the visibility had been fantastic, pushing 50 feet. It has been a while since I have dove cove 1 and wanted to find the wreck again. As it is the pipe for surface run off empties at cove 1. There are signs posted for no swimming, fishing, or eating of shellfish because of the run off. The weather was talking about rain but it hadn't rained yet. We took our chances. At the beginning of the dive the waters were clear. However while we were under we had a flash rain. Although we didn't find the wreck on our way back this is what I saw coming from the pipe.

Urban Runoff
In Los Angeles, most of the rain water is sent to the ocean. Along the way, water runoff picks up pollutants, trash, fertilizers and pesticides. This liquid waste is the single largest source of water pollution into the ocean, giving Los Angeles some of the most polluted beaches in California. Every Wednesday morning, students from Santa Monica High School collect water samples at one of many urban runoffs responsible for pouring over 100 million gallons of contaminated water into the ocean each day. Santa Monica High School and Surfrider Foundation teamed up to create Teach & Test, a program aimed at raising awareness of water quality issues at Los Angeles beaches. As they later analyze in their lab the water samples collected at the beach that day, student findings demonstrate that bacteria levels are calling for the city to put up an advisory. Finally, students suggest a number of solutions to avoid water runoff and save the ocean.

Practical Measures for Improving Water Quality
At Stratton Farms, Jeremy Padfield, LEAF Demonstration Farmer, has put in two measures to prevent surface run-off and trap sediment -- an off ditch wetland and run-off buffer. Louise Webb, River Basin Co-ordinator, Catchment Sensitive Farming, introduces the issues associated with surface run-off. The Rural Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) project aimed to explore the effectiveness of different pathway options in slowing down the flow of surface run-off and trapping sediment from different farms and field locations. To find out if you are eligible for a free one-to-one visit, capital grant, or for information about events in your area visit: www.naturalengland.org.uk Catchment Sensitive Farming (CSF) delivers practical solutions and targeted support to enable farmers and land managers to take voluntary action to reduce diffuse water pollution from agriculture to protect water bodies and the environment. LEAF (Linking Environment And Farming) promotes environmentally responsible farming. We help farmers produce good food, with care and to high environmental standards, identified in-store by the LEAF Marque logo. For more information on LEAF and to join, go to www.leafuk.org.

Water Cycle Song Here is a video I created for my 6th grade science students to help them study.I hope you enjoy. Water not working hard? Yeah right picture that with a flip And better yet, go to the Troposphere Take a video of water's trip Takes a droplet from ground to air And I just want y'all know that Water's life, let's enjoy the flight C.Parr, Teacher, Water Cycle That's right water droplets are in flight Water droplets are in flight It's H2O, from the sky back to the Earth below Water's in flight Evaporation Then Condensation Precipitation And Surface Runoff Cycle of Water, Cycle of Water, Cycle of Water, Grab somebody you know and tell them Hey! Water droplets are in flight Water droplets are in flight Water droplets are in flight Water droplets are in flight Let's measure it right Cause the more and more that all the Water Vapor is in The air so high Cause the Moisture is seen And makes Relative Humidity It is just rain, warm air holds more vapor, water keeps flowing And cold air resides less H2O in, not flowing Psychrometer, humidity it's checking Vapor makes Clouds shapely Mixes with Dust Particles greatly Changes warm to cold And it's quite a sight Soggy Molecules Of water evaporates and then become vapor in flight And then rises up condenses to form the clouds of white And it could rain or drizzle, or snow, or sleet tonight And this repeats tomorrow That's right water droplets are in flight Water droplets are in flight It's H2O, from the sky back to the ...
