Architecture - Monuments - Sculpture -- History - Faces Of India. Story of India
India is as diverse as any 'land mass' can be — it is a miniature world, a complete planet by itself. It is often referred to as a 'museum of anthropology', a 'laboratory of living cultures' and an 'open air museum of artefacts'. Over 5000 years old civilization and 3500 years of uninterrupted history; here many civilizations flourished, kingdoms rose and fell — leaving behind an array of splendid historic attractions, deserted monuments, battle-scarred forts and exquisite temples. There is stunning diversity of religions, ethnicities, peoples and cultures and the towns are cornucopia of images - ancient structures, vibrant markets, colourful people, multi-cultural mix of mosques and temples. And born out of these complex interactions between different races and cultures over several thousand years are rich and varied traditions of music and dance, textiles, arts and crafts, paintings and cuisines. One definition of a great civilization is the magnificence of its architectural legacy, and India is surely among the foremost. It is home to almost every conceivable historic style due to its numerous intra-cultural interactions. On one hand are world famous forts, palaces, tombs and caves, and on the other hand are structures still cloaked in obscurity, off the tourist circuit, waiting to be 'discovered'. Referring to the architectural heritage of undivided India, Lord Curzon once commented that it was 'the greatest galaxy of monuments in the world'. The story of this ...

Beautiful Hindu Temple Statues
Free video for my esoteric friend epsos.de is about a beautiful Hindu temple with colorful statues and religious decoration. The beautiful statues are showing scens from the religion of Hinduism in the Penang island of Malaysia. Many Indian immigrants brought Hinduism to Malaysia. Many of the Indians became a guru. It is interesting and funny that the real Malaysian population of Aboriginals did not convert to Hinduism in the way they converted to Christianity. Many of the Muslim immigrants did try their luck with Islam, but still the local Aboriginals did prefer Christianity. I have no idea why. The cool Buddha statues are amazing . They show a nice scene from the history of India. Where the best gurus had fun in the great search for god. Buddha is shown in his multiple stages of life. Good yoga and meditation is one huge part of the pretty mantra for the sweet talking Hindus. Their divine peace is very important for their Karma, because they want to find spiritual enlightenment and level up into the next stage of nirvana. Hinduism is also used for healing of broken souls. Many people come for tourism to Penang to see the Shiva tampels. Many beautiful women travel to see the unique culture, becasue it is a real adventure for them. The Hindu temple on the hill of Penang is a popular destination, but is very tricky, because there are no museums or other cultural attractions beside of the temple and the Mosc. Samrat Ashoka the Great Indian king
In the history of the world there have been thousands of kings and emperors who called themselves 'their highnesses,' 'their majesties,' and 'their exalted majesties' and so on. They shone for a brief moment, and as quickly disappeared. But Ashoka shines and shines brightly like a bright star, even unto this day. popularly known as Ashoka the Great, was an Indian emperor of the Maurya Dynasty who ruled almost all of the Indian subcontinent from 269 BC to 232 BC. One of India's greatest emperors, Ashoka reigned over most of present-day India after a number of military conquests. His empire stretched from present-day Pakistan, Afghanistan in the west, to the present-day Bangladesh and the Indian state of Assam in the east, and as far south as northern Kerala and Andhra. He conquered the kingdom named Kalinga, which no one in his dynasty had conquered starting from Chandragupta Maurya. His reign was headquartered in Magadha (present-day Bihar, India) He embraced Buddhism from the prevalent Vedic tradition after witnessing the mass deaths of the war of Kalinga, which he himself had waged out of a desire for conquest. He was later dedicated to the propagation of Buddhism across Asia and established monuments marking several significant sites in the life of Gautama Buddha. Ashoka in human history is often referred to as the emperor of all ages. Ashoka was a devotee of ahimsa (nonviolence), love, truth, tolerance and vegetarianism. Ashoka is remembered in history as a ...

Buddhist Art
Buddhist art originated on the Indian subcontinent following the historical life of Siddhartha Gautama, 6th to 5th century BC, and thereafter evolved by contact with other cultures as it spread throughout Asia and the world. (1) Footprint of the Buddha. 1st century, Gandhara Although India had a long sculptural tradition and a mastery of rich iconography, the Buddha was not yet represented in human form, but only through Buddhist symbolism. It has been argued that earlier anthropomorphic representations of the Buddha may have been made of wood and may have perished since then. However, no related archaeological evidence has been found. (2) Representation of the Buddha in the Greco-Buddhist art of Gandhara, 1st century AD Anthropomorphic representations of the Buddha started to emerge from the 1st century AD in Northern India. The two main centers of creation have been identified as Gandhara, in Pakistan, and the region of Mathura, in central northern India. The art of Gandhara benefited from centuries of interaction with Greek culture since the conquests of Alexander the Great in 332 BC and the subsequent establishment of the Greco-Bactrian and Indo-Greek Kingdoms, leading to the development of Greco-Buddhist art. This iconic art was characterized from the start by a realistic idealism, combining realistic human features, proportions, attitudes and attributes, together with a sense of perfection and serenity reaching to the divine. Shree Pashupatinath
Pashupatinath, the Lord of Animals, is among the oldest in the Hindu pantheon of gods and goddesses. Scientific findings prove that Lord God Shiva was worshipped in this form, among others, in the Indian subcontinent before the permanent settlement of the Aryans. Archaeological excavations at Mohenjodaro and Harappa in Pakistan prove that he was worshipped there in the second millennium BC. Pashupati is worshipped by Hindus from all over the world. In the beginning there may only have been a shrine there, but Pashupati had become a state deity by the seventh century. Dated sculptures and inscriptions proved that he worship place definitely existed by the fifth century. According to an old chronicle of Nepal, the temple was at once a five-story structure. The present two-story structure was built in the seventeenth century. The temple is square in shape. Many decorative and functional structures were added to it from time to time. The temple courtyard is full of shrines of various sized, and the whole area is a complex of statues and worship places. The temple has a sloping roof supported by wooden beams and struts. The struts are called toranas (meaning: "ankle bone" in Newari). In between these beautifully carved and highly decorative struts are screened windows. A golden pinnacle tops the temple. Hindu shrines face specific directions for specific gods. Bhairav faces south, Ganesh faces east, Narayan west, and the Nawadurgar (the nine mother goddesses) north. The ...

Birla Temple - www.BAZHE.com Birla Mandir on the Naubath Pahad is a magnificent Hindu temple of Lord Venkateshwara, entirely built in white marble located in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India . The temple manifests a blend of South Indian, Rajasthani and Utkala temple architectures. In its entirety, it is made of 2000 tons of pure Rajasthani white marble. The granite of the presiding deity is about 11 ft (3.4 m). tall and a carved lotus forms an umbrella on the roof. The consorts of Lord Venkateswara, Padmavati and Andal are housed in separate shrines. There is a brass flagstaff in the temple premises which rises to a height of 42 ft (13 m). 28 & 29 onboard the International Space Station from August to October,
2011, who to my knowledge shot these pictures at an altitude of around 350 km.
All credit goes to them.
HD, refurbished, smoothed, retimed, denoised, deflickered, cut, etc.
All in all I tried to keep the looks of the material as original as possible,
avoided adjusting the colors and the like, since in my opinion the original
footage itself already has an almost surreal and aestethical visual nature.

A Short Animation Inspired by the Works of İlhan Koman
Plato Art Space is proud to present Candaş Şişman’s video dedicated to famous sculptor İlhan Koman produced for the exhibition İlhan Koman: Hulda Festival, a Journey into Art and Science opening on the 22nd September, 2010.
İlhan Koman’s unique design approach in his form studies also inspires contemporary art works. The video installation Flux by young artist Candaş Şişman can be defined as a digital animation which is inspired from the structural features of some of İlhan Koman’s works like Pi, 3D Moebius, Whirlpool and To Infinity... A red circle, which is colored in reference to the red radiators of Ogre, is traced in a morphological transformation which re-interprets the formal approach of Koman’s works. The continuous movement sometimes connotes the formal characteristics of Pi, 3D Moebius, Whirlpool and To Infinity..., as well as the original formal interpretations of the design principles of the works . In Flux, Koman’s design process in the making of the Pi series has been treated as the emerging of a sphere from a two-dimensional circle by the principle of increasing the surface; and that simple direction is re-interpreted in digital medium. Thanks to this, in the digital animation an entirely different form serial that does not resemble Pi yet remaining its design principle can be followed through the flow of a circle to the sphere. As a conscious attitude of the artist, this work is not designed in a direct visual analogy with Koman’s works. During the animation, none of the moments of the transforming form look like Pi or 3D Moebius, however the subjective reading of Koman’s approach can be observed.
With the integration of the sounds of various materials – which Koman used in his sculptures – Flux turns into an impressive spatial experience. Flux, also exemplifies that Koman’s work can be re-interpreted by the analysis and manipulation of form in the digital medium.

This is a personal project that would not have been possible without the support of the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service. Thanks to the entire team for their generous access during training exercises and patrols this Summer. Since the Service began in 1973, it has carried out more than 21,000 missions ranging from urgent patient transfers to dangerous search and rescue missions.
This film is 100% 'real', but there are some new techniques for me here, such as using time lapse to create the illusion of forward movement for the helicopter ocean scenes. These flight sequences would not be possible without the skill and patience of Chief Pilot Peter Yates. Thanks also to Trevor Cracknell (for getting wet!) and Family.

Gautama Buddha or Siddhārtha Gautama Buddha (Sanskrit: सिद्धार्थ गौतम बुद्ध; Pali: Siddhattha Gotama) was a spiritual teacher from the Indian subcontinent, on whose teachings Buddhism was founded.[2] The word Buddha is a title for the first awakened being in an era. In most Buddhist traditions, Siddhartha Gautama is regarded as the Supreme Buddha (P. sammāsambuddha, S. samyaksaṃbuddha) of our age, "Buddha" meaning "awakened one" or "the enlightened one." [note 1] Gautama Buddha may also be referred to as Śākyamuni (Sanskrit: शाक्यमुनि "Sage of the Śākyas"). The Buddha found a Middle Way that ameliorated the extreme asceticism found in the Sramana religions.[3] The time of Gautama's birth and death are uncertain: most early-20th-century historians dated his lifetime as circa 563 BCE to 483 BCE,[4] but more recent opinion dates his death to between 486 and 483 BCE or, according to some, between 411 and 400 BCE.[5][6] UNESCO lists Lumbini, Nepal, as a world heritage site and birthplace of Gautama Buddha.[1][7] There are also claims about birthplace of Gautama Buddha to be Kapileswara, Orissa[8][9][10][11][12][13][14][15] or Kapilavastu at Piprahwa, Uttar Pradesh. He later taught throughout regions of eastern India such as Magadha and Kośala.[16][17] Gautama is the primary figure in Buddhism, and accounts of his life, discourses, and monastic rules are believed by Buddhists to have been summarized after his death and memorized by his followers ...

The Increadible India Elora Caves.wmv
Ellora (Marathi: वेरूळ) is an archaeological site, 30 km (19 mi) from the city of Aurangabad in the Indian state of Maharashtra built by the Rashtrakuta (Kannada: ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರಕೂಟ) rulers. Well-known for its monumental caves, Ellora is a World Heritage Site.[1] Ellora represents the epitome of Indian rock-cut architecture. The 34 "caves" -- actually structures excavated out of the vertical face of the Charanandri hills -- being Buddhist, Hindu and Jain rock cut temples and monasteries, were built between the 5th century and 10th century. The 12 Buddhist (caves 1--12), 17 Hindu (caves 13--29) and 5 Jain (caves 30--34) caves, built in proximity, demonstrate the religious harmony prevalent during this period of Indian history.[2] Cave 16, also known as the Kailasa or the Kailasanatha, is the unrivaled centerpiece of Ellora. This is designed to recall Mount Kailash, the abode of Lord Shiva -- looks like a freestanding, multi-storeyed temple complex, but it was carved out of one single rock, and covers an area double the size of Parthenon in Athens.[8] INitially the temple was covereed with white plaster thus even more increasing the similarity to snow covered Mount Kailash. All the carvings are done in more than one level. A two-storeyed gateway resembling a South Indian gopuram opens to reveal a U-shaped courtyard. The courtyard is edged by columned galleries three storeys high. The galleries are punctuated by huge sculpted panels, and alcoves containing enormous ...

Firdos Rizvi successfully swim across the Ganga River
I am overjoyed at having successfully swum the Ganga, The Ganges is one of the major rivers of the Indian subcontinent, flowing east through the Gangetic Plain of northern India into Bangladesh. The 2510 km (1560 mi) river rises in the western Himalayas in the Uttarakhand state of India, and drains into the Sunderbans delta in the Bay of Bengal. It has long been considered a holy river by Hindus and worshiped as the goddess Ganga in Hinduism. During the early Vedic Ages, the Indus and the Sarasvati River were the major rivers, not the Ganges. But the later three Vedas seem to give much more importance to the Ganges, as shown by its numerous references. Possibly the first Westerner to mention the Ganges was Megasthenes. He did so several times in his work Indika: "India, again, possesses many rivers both large and navigable, which, having their sources in the mountains which stretch along the northern frontier, traverse the level country, and not a few of these, after uniting with each other, fall into the river called the Ganges. Now this river, which at its source is 30 stadia broad, flows from north to south, and empties its waters into the ocean forming the eastern boundary of the Gangaridai, a nation which possesses a vast force of the largest-sized elephants." (Diodorus II.37) In Rome's Piazza Navona, a famous sculpture, Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi (fountain of the four rivers) designed by Gian Lorenzo Bernini was built in 1651. It symbolizes four of the world's great ...

www.srinagashramam.com | | 1 | Mount Kailash & Ganges - 2010, (Om, Hinduism, India, Tamils, Temples) Mount Kailash Lord Shiva, the destroyer of evil and sorrow, resides at the summit of a legendary mountain named Kailāśā, where he sits in a state of perpetual meditation along with his wife Pārvatī. In the Vishnu Purana of the mountain is states that its four faces are made of crystal, ruby, gold, and lapis lazuli.[5] It is a pillar of the world and is located at the heart of six mountain ranges symbolizing a lotus.[5] The four rivers flowing from Kailash then flow to the four quarters of the world and divide the world into four regions. The largest and most important rock-cut temple, Kailash Temple at Ellora, Maharashtra is named after Mount Kailash. Many of its sculptures and reliefs depict episodes relating to Lord Shiva and Maa Parvati, including Ravana's tale. (Ravana was a devotee of Lord Shiva. Ramayana does not document Ravan shaking Kailasa mountain.) Ravana's mother had fallen ill. As they were great Lord Shiva devotees, he had attempted to carry the temple on his back to bring it closer to his mother. Shiva, being stunned by his boldness, had blessed him with immortality as Ravana had passed Lord Shiva's test of devotion. Every year, thousands make a pilgrimage to Kailash, following a tradition going back thousands of years. Pilgrims of several religions believe that circumambulating Mount Kailash on foot is a holy ritual that will bring good fortune. The ...
