Indian Plate [HD]
What causes earthquakes The shaking motion of an earthquake is the result of a sudden release of energy. Earthquakes are caused when stress, building up within rocks of the earth's crust, is released in a sudden jolt. Rocks crack and slip past each other causing the ground to vibrate. Cracks along which rocks slip are called faults. They may break through the ground surface, or be deep within the earth. The location on a fault where slip first occurs is called the focus, whereas the position directly above it on the ground surface is called the epicentre. Relationship between the focus of an earthquake and the epicentre. Earthquakes rarely take place at the surface of the Earth but at some depth within it. Though focal depths are usually shallow, earthquakes have been detected as deep as 720 km. Based on the depth of the focus earthquakes can be classified as: • Shallow: when the depth of origin is less than 60 km. • Intermediate: when the depth of origin is between 60 and 300 km. • Deep: when the depth of origin is greater then 300 km.

Indian Ocean Reconstruction (Growing Earth/Plate tectonics)
A simple three step reconstruction of the continents surrounding the Indian Ocean. Including the controversial idea that Australia once was simultaneously attached to both Antarctica at and Asia. Measurments of the movements of continental crust, show that in some areas the crust is flowing just like a glacier. I propose that Australias´ departure from Asia some 150 million years ago, trigged a slow motion landslide from the Tibetan Plateau, creating what we now know as South East Asia (Burma, Thailand and Indonesia...) This explains the bend in the fåult lines on the West-Australian side. It also implies that subduction as described by plate tectonics, does not happen in the Indian Ocean, rather what has by some been called "overduction", meaning that it is the upper plate that is doing the moving and the overducted plate is stationary relative to the continental mainland. 02 - Asian Tsunami - McNeil-Lehrer - 20041227
www.youtube.com The earthquake was unusually large in geographical extent. An estimated 1600 km (994 mi) of faultline slipped about 15 m (50 ft) along the subduction zone where the India Plate slides under the Burma Plate. The slip did not happen instantaneously but took place in two phases over a period of several minutes. Seismographic and acoustic data indicate that the first phase involved a rupture about 400 km (250 mi) long and 100 km (60 mi) wide, located 30 km (19 mi) beneath the sea bed—the longest rupture ever known to have been caused by an earthquake. The rupture proceeded at a speed of about 2.8 km/s (1.7 mi/s) or 10000 km/h (6300 mph), beginning off the coast of Aceh and proceeding north-westerly over a period of about 100 seconds. A pause of about another 100 seconds took place before the rupture continued northwards towards the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. However, the northern rupture occurred more slowly than in the south, at about 2.1 km/s (1.3 mi/s) or 7600 km/h (4700 mph), continuing north for another five minutes to a plate boundary where the fault changes from subduction to strike-slip (the two plates push past one another in opposite directions). This reduced the speed of the water displacement and so reducing the size of the tsunami that hit the northern part of the Indian Ocean.[9] The India Plate is part of the great Indo-Australian Plate, which underlies the Indian Ocean and Bay of Bengal, and is drifting north-east at an average of 6 cm/year ...

Satyamev Jayate - Toxic Food - Poison On Our Plate?
You can also visit us at www.satyamevjayate.in - For decades our food and water have been contaminated by powerful, harmful pesticides which have been promoted as necessary for better agricultural output. But the reality is that we don't need pesticides for better yield, and their use is not only deadly for health but results in expensive farming methods. The solution is to adopt organic farming, which is possible and profitable, as the state of Sikkim has shown.

Mystic Saraswati River Himalayas
3 km from Badrinath, at Mana one can see the Holy Saraswati emerging out of the rocks and falling down furiously. Saraswati river cannot be seen in the plains. Towards the end one can see the Saraswati merging into the Alaknanda river. The sangam or confluence of Alaknanada and Saraswati river is called Keshav Prayag. Saraswati is an ancient river that flowed in Northern India during the Vedic era. It originated in the Himalayas and flowed westwards to join the Arabian sea. It was earlier thought to be a mythological river that existed only in the Vedas. Recent discoveries have proved that this river did indeed exist during the Vedic era about 6000 years back. The aerial photos from NASA and ISRO satellites have revealed the dried up river bed and geological excavations have proved the same. When the Saraswati river flowed, the current desert of Rajasthan was a green land full of vegetation. The existing rivers Sutlej and Yamuna were major sources of the Saraswati river during the Vedic era. The plate tectonics of the Indian plate with the Eurasian plate caused geological shifts in the Himalayan region around 6000 years ago and caused the Sutlej river to be diverted to join Indus river and similarly Yamuna joined river Ganga to create the present Ganga-Yamuna plain. This caused the Saraswati river to dry up as its major sources of water were lost. In addition, Indus which was a smaller river till then became a bigger river due to the inclusion of water from Sutlej. Most ...

DEADLIEST Tsunami in History - Sumatra,Indonesia - December-26th-2004
www.startnextweek.com - The earthquake that generated the great Indian Ocean tsunami of 2004 is estimated to have released the energy of 23000 Hiroshima-type atomic bombs, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). Giant forces that had been building up deep in the Earth for hundreds of years were released suddenly on December 26, shaking the ground violently and unleashing a series of killer waves that sped across the Indian Ocean at the speed of a jet airliner. By the end of the day more than 150000 people were dead or missing and millions more were homeless in 11 countries, making it perhaps the most destructive tsunami in history. The violent movement of sections of the Earth's crust, known as tectonic plates, displaced an enormous amount of water, sending powerful shock waves in every direction. The earthquake was the result of the sliding of the portion of the Earth's crust known as the India plate under the section called the Burma plate. The trillions of tons of rock that were moved along hundreds of miles caused the planet to shudder with the largest magnitude earthquake in 40 years. Within hours killer waves radiating from the earthquake zone slammed into the coastline of 11 Indian Ocean countries, snatching people out to sea, drowning others in their homes or on beaches, and demolishing property from Africa to Thailand. The Indian Ocean tsunami traveled as much as 3000 miles (nearly 5000 kilometers) to Africa, arriving with sufficient force to kill people and ...

The Inaugural Henry Cole Lecture: Sir Christopher Frayling, 30 October 2008
The inaugural Henry Cole Lecture, held at the V&A; Museum in London on 30 October 2008. The purpose of the lecture is to celebrate the legacy of the Museum’s founding director, and explore its implications for museums, culture and society today.
The lecture, entitled 'We Must Have Steam: Get Cole! Henry Cole, the Chamber of Horrors, and the Educational Role of the Museum' was delivered by Professor Sir Christopher Frayling. He presented new research on the “chamber of horrors” (a contemporary nickname for one of the V&A;'s earliest galleries, 'Decorations on False Principles', that opened in 1852) and the myths and realities of its reception, then opened up a wider debate on design education and museums from the nineteenth century to the present day.
Transcript:
Mark Jones: The annual Henry Cole lecture has been initiated to celebrate Henry Cole's legacy and to explore the contribution that culture can make to education and society today. It has also been launched to celebrate the opening of the Sackler Centre for arts education, including the Hochhauser Auditorium in which we sit tonight. There could be no one better than Professor Sir Christopher Frayling to give the inaugural Henry Cole Lecture. Christopher is a rare being: an intellectual who is a great communicator; a theorist who has a firm grip on the practical realities of life: a writer who truly and instinctively understands the words of making design and visual communication. As an enormously successful and respected Rector of the Royal College of Art, as Chairman of the Arts Council, and as a member and chair of boards too numerous to mention - but not forgetting the Royal Mint Advisory Committee which has recently been responsible for redesigning the coinage (personal interest) and as by far the longest-serving Trustee of the V&A;, he brings together culture, education and public service in a way which Henry Cole would have approved and admired. So it's more than fitting that he should be giving this first Henry Cole Lecture, 'We Must Have Steam: Get Cole! Henry Cole, the Chamber of Horrors, and the Educational Role of the Museum'.
CHRISTOPHER FRAYLING:
Thank you very much indeed Mark and thank you very much for inviting me to give this first Henry Cole Lecture. Just how much of an honour it is for me will I hope become clear as the lecture progresses.
Mark, Chairpeople, ladies and gentlemen:
Hidden away in the garden of the South Kensington Museum - now the Madejski Garden of the V&A; - there is a small and easily overlooked commemorative plaque that doesn't have a museum number. It reads: 'In Memory of Jim Died 1879 Aged 15 Years, Faithful Dog of Sir Henry Cole of this Museum'. Jim had in fact died on 30 January 1879. He was with Henry Cole in his heyday, as the king of South Kensington - its museums and colleges - and saw him through to retirement from the public service and beyond. And next to this inscription there's another one dedicated to Jim's successor, Tycho, and dated 1885. The dogs are actually buried in the garden. Now we know from Henry Cole's diary that between 1864 and 1879 Jim, who was a cairn terrier, was often to be seen in public at his master's side. In 1864 they were together inspecting the new memorial to the Great Exhibition of 1851 just behind the Albert Hall - a statue of Prince Albert by Joseph Durham on a lofty plinth covered in statistics about the income, expenditure and visitor numbers to the Great Exhibition: 6,039,195 to be exact. Cole had been a tireless champion of Prince Albert and according to the Princess Royal (later Empress of Prussia) there was a family saying in Buckingham Palace at the time, invented by Albert himself, that when things needed doing 'when we want steam we must get Cole'. We may therefore assume that when looking at the memorial, Cole was interested in the inscription, the statistics and the likeness of Prince Albert, while Jim was more interested in the possibilities of the plinth. In early 1866 - these are five studies of Jim, an etching by Henry Cole himself of 1864. In early 1866, first thing in the morning, soon after the workmen's bell had rung, Henry and Jim would set forth together from Cole's newly constructed official residence in the Museum (where he moved in July 1863) to tour the building sites of South Kensington - a name which was first invented by Cole when he re-named the museum The South Kensington Museum to describe the new developments happening around Brompton Church. According to 'The Builder' magazine, these two well-known figures would 'be seen clambering over bricks, mortar and girders up ladders and about scaffolding'. Several buildings in the South Kensington Renaissance Revival style were springing up all around them: The Natural History Museum, The College of Science, the extension to this Museum. And on the morning the Bethnal Green Museum opened - 24 June 1872 - Jim showed a healthy distaste for his master's well-known predilection for pomp and

1985 Oct 26th Sahaja Culture USA
1985-1026: Sahaja Culture, New Jersey, Ashram, USA
Today I was thinking of talking, telling you about the Sahaja Culture.
Now we are formed in dharma, Vishwa Dharma. But it must have a culture. So far in all the religions there is no combination of religion and culture. No religion has. That's why everywhere you find different cultures. Say in India, people who follow Hindu religion have different cultures in different places. They are living in Lucknow, or say in U.P., they have a Muslim culture. More Islamic style. They'll eat in one plate, do all kinds of things which normally a South Indian won't do, and the South Indians have a different culture from Maharashtrians. So even in a religion like Hindu religion where culture is important, very important, we find varieties. So the cultures get influenced by the neighboring cultures or surrounding cultures, and that's how people get lost.
When you establish a religion like this, Vishwa Dharma, it's not like any other religion. It's the real religion within us, and this reality comes to us because now we are one with the Spirit. So when we talk of Sahaja Culture, it is the culture of the Spirit.
Now what is a culture? First of all let us see what is a culture is. So the culture is the pattern of behavior we have with others. Is a common pattern of behavior we are supposed to have with others. Like in English language, for example, we'll say "Thank you". Even if somebody murders, you may say, "Thank you". Or the person who murders you can say, "Sorry". On the phone one may say, just if they say something you can't hear, "Sorry?" Every time, "Sorry". As if "sorry" is a word so easily to be used. I mean if you are sorry, why are you sorry for that? "Sorry?" On the phone they used to first say, "I beg your pardon?", was sensible; but now I find everybody, A to Z, says, "Sorry?" I mean, it has no meaning, because what are you sorry about? Says "Sorry?" For everything they are sorry. Or we can say in English language, when we speak, "I'm afraid". You see, it's very common, "I'm afraid". What are you afraid of? The whole world is afraid of you.
So this is the culture, what we talk of, any culture as such, becomes artificial, is not spontaneous, doesn't come from reality. It has no meaning; sometimes it is pointless, absolutely pointless to stick to certain cultures. So the culture of the Spirit doesn't change. It's universal, and is higher than any other culture. Apart from that it integrates all the essences of all the cultures.
So it emanates from the spirit. Now, spirit has two sides. One side which you see, the another you don't see, like the moon. The side you see is outside with other people, other Sahaja Yogis, other people, other societies, which are not yourself, absolutely. The other side you don't see is the relationship with God Almighty, relationship with your Mother. If the other side is not all right, the behavioral side outside could become artificial, could become crooked and not Sahaj. So it's the other way round than any other culture. To know any other culture what do we go? We see how they talk, what is their language, how they speak, how they behave: all the outside things we get. We must know "thank you" if we want to know English language, must know "thank you", "please", all that. But if you want to know the Sahaja culture, you have to know your Mother, and you have to know God Almighty. And the relationship between your Mother and the God Almighty has to be absolutely perfect. Then there's no problem. But that, the relationship, if it is not all right, you cannot have artificial Sahaj culture. That is one thing for sure. Artificial Sahaj culture is not all right. I would say that India has, in its basics, the culture of the spirit, India has; because for traditions and traditions in India, and for ages, people have been seeking the truth. Spiritually they are endowed, because of the saints. They are blessed specially because they have been seekers, not of material things, but of the spirit. Specially in Maharashtra, we should say, because the Kundalini is there always like a magnet. People are attracted because Shri Ganesha being the magnet, attracted towards God and spirit. So they form a pattern, but there is lot of artificiality in that also has grown. We must admit that there is lot, lot of artificiality, falsehood, nonsense that has grown into it, because the religion fell into the hands of, spiritual religion fell into the hands of gross, horrible so-called Brahmins who were not realized souls. So the whole culture has become so nonsensical sometimes that you don't know where to look.
But to have the culture, first of all, culture is developed through meditation, by facing yourself. First of all you should face yourself, how you feel about your Mother and about God Almighty. First of all, how much liberty you take of your Mother? How much granted, take for granted your Mother? She's a Mahamaya. Even the first "M" is difficult t

Prior to the twenty-first century, men of the Kayapo tribe, located in Brazils Mato Grosso region of the Amazon basin, sported large wooden lip disks in their lower lips. Upon entering the mens hut, lips of young Kayapo boys (age 8 - 10) were pierced and a small wooden plug was inserted. Over the years, the plugs were increased in size until the lip was stretched to more than 8 cm to 10 cm in diameter. Lip disks often were carved with a distinctive flange, giving them a slightly oval shape. The pointed flange, on either side of the mouth, helped to hold the disk in place. Lip plates were a mark of manhood and great pride for the Kayapo. Unlike the Suya, who pierced and stretched their lower lips with similar sized disks after marriage, Kayapo men did not paint their lip disks. However, wearing lip disks from childhood gave the Kayapo more muscular control over their disks, allowing them to flip them up at will (as seen in video). Today, very few Kayapo wear lip disks. Of them, world famous Chief Raoni and a handful of Kayapo shaman still wear their lip disks with pride.
