Lead Belly - Where Did You Sleep Last Night? (1944) (TRUE STEREO)
I used my forensic software to split the guitar from vocals in this classic recording. I then eq'd it and remixed the stems. Probably one of the oldest songs in stereo. Original, mono version www.youtube.com

Roots of Blues -- Lead Belly „Rock Island Line"
„Rock Island Line" (H. Ledbetter) Recorded: 1944 Lead Belly (vcl) (g), Paul Howard (cithare) Huddie William Ledbetter, (January, 1888 -- December 6, 1949) was an American folk and blues musician, notable for his clear and forceful singing, his virtuosity on the twelve string guitar, and the rich songbook of folk standards he introduced. He is best known as Leadbelly or Lead Belly. Though many releases list him as "Leadbelly," he himself spelled it "Lead Belly." This is also the usage on his tombstone, as well as the Lead Belly Foundation. Although he most commonly played the twelve string, he could also play the piano, mandolin, harmonica, violin, concertina, and accordion. In some of his recordings, such as in one of his versions of the folk ballad "John Hardy", he performs on the accordion instead of the guitar. In other recordings he just sings while clapping his hands or stomping his foot. The topics of Lead Belly's music covered a wide range of subjects, including gospel songs; blues songs about women, liquor and racism; and folk songs about cowboys, prison, work, sailors, cattle herding and dancing. He also wrote songs concerning the newsmakers of the day, such as President Franklin Roosevelt, Adolf Hitler, Jean Harlow, the Scottsboro Boys and multi-millionaire Howard Hughes. Fame in 1986. The day of his birth has also been debated. The most common date given is January 20, but other sources suggest he was born on January 21 or 29. The only document we have that <b>...</b>

The Story of Huddey "Leadbelly" Ledbetter 1/2 (Documentary/Biography)
www.youtube.com link to Part 2: www.youtube.com Link to the propaply only real video of Lead Belly: www.youtube.com This is a biography / documentary about Leadbelly and since it's length i had to cut it in two episodes. In Part one we take a look on Leadbelly's life before he met John Lomax, the folklorist. Part two starts when he finally meets Mr. Lomax (his ticket out of jail). I'm not any music professional, i just love history and music too and making this was both fun and interesting. All the information on the video i have googled from different sources, impossible to remember them all but im not trying to own their writings, i have only mixed them to create one full story. I narriate the film myself so please forgive me if my english is not clear to understand in every part of the video. I'm maybe adding subtitles later so it's easier to watch. I could have inserted motion picture cuts on the video but since my slow computer freezed every time i tried to do that, i made decision to put only still pictures on this film. But the story is very interesting, i hope you like it, took me a few days to make this.

Lead Belly... House of the Rising Sun
Lead Belly...House of the Rising Sun...From his first studio recordings, in New York City, 1939. In my opinion, this has never been surpassed. The Animals and Bob Dylan are excellent. But when Lead Belly says "Rock me" or "Go on back down there" it's not rock'nroll, it's not folk, it's not the blues...It's Lead Belly. The way he was meant to be heard. This 1939 recording session is the best Lead Belly I've heard. Don't think you know what Lead Belly sounds like until you've heard this.

Lead Belly - The Titanic
Huddie William Ledbetter (January 20, 1888 -- December 6, 1949) was an iconic American folk, blues musician, and multi-instrumentalist, notable for his strong vocals, his virtuosity on the twelve-string guitar, and the songbook of folk standards he introduced. He is best known as Lead Belly. Though many releases list him as "Leadbelly", he himself spelled it "Lead Belly". This is also the usage on his tombstone,[1][2] as well as of the Lead Belly Foundation.[3] In 1994 the Lead Belly Foundation contacted an authority on the history of popular music, Colin Larkin, editor of the Encyclopedia of Popular Music, to ask if the name "Leadbelly" could be altered to "Lead Belly" in the hope that other authors would follow suit and use the artist's correct appellation. Although Lead Belly most commonly played the twelve-string, he could also play the piano, mandolin, harmonica, violin, and accordion.[4] In some of his recordings, such as in one of his versions of the folk ballad "John Hardy", he performs on the accordion instead of the guitar. In other recordings he just sings while clapping his hands or stomping his foot. The topics of Lead Belly's music covered a wide range of subjects, including gospel songs; blues songs about women, liquor and racism; and folk songs about cowboys, prison, work, sailors, cattle herding, and dancing.
