Citizen Cope is the debut album by Citizen Cope, released on January 29, 2002. It is his first and only album for DreamWorks Records. The album boasts a lengthy cast of session musicians- most of whom are veterans. The first single from the album "Contact" featured bass playing from Me'Shell Ndegeocello. Most of the bass on the album was played by Preston Crump, a session musician who was previously known for playing on songs produced by the production team Organized Noize. The song "Let the Drummer Kick" was featured in the 2006 ensemble comedy Accepted as well as the 2005 Samuel L. Jackson film Coach Carter.

You know it ain't easy For these thoughts here to leave me There's no words to describe it In French or in English Well, diamonds they fade And flowers they bloom And I'm telling you These feelings won't go away They've been knockin' me sideways They've been knockin' me out lately Whenever you come around me These feelings won't go away They've been knockin' me sideways I keep thinking in a moment that Time will take them away But these feelings won't go away

a great song from CITIZEN COPE's The Clarence Greenwood Recordings album The woman that I love Is forty feet tall She's a movie star She's all in the papers And everywhere i go People hand me quarters And they pat me on the back They treat me like im famous I'll never leave her side 'Cause today can be dangerous And when the night arrives The light hit her features And the cars drive by Just so they could see her And she never bats an eye When someone takes her picture Mr.Officer if you've come to take her Then that means one of us Gonna end up in a stretcher Gonna end up in the papers, going end up in the papers, yeah If i had a pistol I'd brandish it and wave it She's the only one alive that knows that I'm not crazy She's gonna testify on my behalf Down at t...

VERSE 1
Its another day
I'm on my knees to pray
To change our ways
Our Morals have decayed
We judge us by our race
Surrounded by Hate
VERSE 2
Can you see the signs?
Or are you ignorant and blind?
As society declines
Decadence rules
"He" Observes the fools
Education's a tool
CHORUS:
Son Rise!
Let the Son Rise for you!
Some despise!
That He's out there for you!
