Voguing is fairly new, created in the 80s, compared to the New York City drag ballroom scene which goes back to at least the 1920s. The dance's name is borrowed from Vogue magazine. The movements that define voguging are also styled after the model poses in Vogue. Willi Ninja, considered the godfather of vogue, also drew inspirations from some unlikely sources such as mimes and martial arts. Voguing also happens at Kiki balls—like a junior legeauge before the main competitions of the ballroom scene. In the LGBTQ community voguing is more than just a popular dance fad co-opted into mainstream. Surrogate families called houses are also a major part of the ballroom scene.

We still live in a world where people are marginalised , discriminated against and subordinated. As we progress towards a better world, what we need is the prevalence of empathy and respect for every creature on this planet.
Here is Mx. Ria’s perspective and story about how their life changed after they broke stereotypes and boundaries of gender and other identities. From accepting themselves as a gender fluid person to coming out in the open their journey has been a roller coaster ride . Through the journey they not only understood themselves but also about their country's beautiful history of acceptance of queer identities , the magic of love and the importance of standing up against injustice.
They share some simple steps about how everyone can be inclusive and be better human beings. Eventually making the world a better place to live in !
Mx. Ria Sharma is a 20 year old youth activist who is on a journey to spread awareness about LGBT+ issues, raise voice against any form of injustice and inspire people to be their true self. They have been sharing their story on media platforms, seminars in educational institutions and at storytelling events. They have produced stories like ‘Splitends’ and ‘Girl with a beard’ which touches topics like gender incongruence and struggles that a gender fluid person has with their body.
Ria is a LGBTQAI+ youth Activist and the co founder of The Jimme Foundation. They have been working towards creating awareness about issues of gender and sexuality at various platforms through workshops , advertisements and short films. They have also been a training speaker for the youth organisation - The Plane Jar for the past 2 years for their C.A.A.S.A programme. Apart from that Ria has also given a Josh talk in hindi which went trending on number 9 some weeks back . Ria was the part of the collaboration between Anekant production and House on moons where they produced their story 'Splitends'. They have acted for the campco chocolate campaign for their advertisements and was also a part of a documentary film - ‘closet’ , screened at the Kashish Film Festival. LGBT culture
LGBT culture or LGBTQI culture is a culture shared by lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning and intersex people. It is sometimes referred to as queer culture (indicating people who are queer), while the term gay culture may be used to mean "LGBTQI culture," or to refer specifically to homosexual male culture.
LGBT culture varies widely by geography and the identity of the participants. Elements common to cultures of gay, lesbian, bisexual transgender and intersex people include:
- Contemporary LGBT artists and political figures

Sexuality and gender identity-based cultures
Sexuality and gender identity-based cultures are subcultures and communities composed of people who have shared experiences, backgrounds, or interests due to common sexual or gender identities. Among the first to argue that members of sexual minorities can also constitute cultural minorities were Adolf Brand, Magnus Hirschfeld, and Leontine Sagan in Germany. These pioneers were later followed by the Mattachine Society and the Daughters of Bilitis in the United States.
Not all persons of various gender and sexual orientations identify or affiliate with a particular subculture. Reasons include geographic distance, unawareness of the subculture's existence, fear of social stigma, or personal preference to remain unidentified with sexuality- or gender-based subcultures or communities. Some have suggested that the identities defined by the Western heterosexualized cultures are based on sexuality, have serious flaws, and often leave no space for the public to discuss these flaws of gender and sexuality. This leaves many rejecting these identities in large numbers, often while disowning their own sexual needs and possibly subjecting them to be classified under what they may consider misclassified sexual identities.

Vogue, the dance, not the magazine.
Voguing is fairly new, created in the 80s, compared to the New York City drag ballroom scene which goes back to at least the 1920s. The dance's name is borrowed from Vogue magazine. The movements that define voguging are also styled after the model poses in Vogue. Willi Ninja, considered the godfather of vogue, also drew inspirations from some unlikely sources such as mimes and martial arts. Voguing also happens at Kiki balls—like a junior legeauge before the main competitions of the ballroom scene. In the LGBTQ community voguing is more than just a popular dance fad co-opted into mainstream. Surrogate families called houses are also a major part of the ballroom scene.

We still live in a world where people are marginalised , discriminated against and subordinated. As we progress towards a better world, what we need is the prevalence of empathy and respect for every creature on this planet.
Here is Mx. Ria’s perspective and story about how their life changed after they broke stereotypes and boundaries of gender and other identities. From accepting themselves as a gender fluid person to coming out in the open their journey has been a roller coaster ride . Through the journey they not only understood themselves but also about their country's beautiful history of acceptance of queer identities , the magic of love and the importance of standing up against injustice.
They share some simple steps about how everyone can be inclusive and be better human beings. Eventually making the world a better place to live in !
Mx. Ria Sharma is a 20 year old youth activist who is on a journey to spread awareness about LGBT+ issues, raise voice against any form of injustice and inspire people to be their true self. They have been sharing their story on media platforms, seminars in educational institutions and at storytelling events. They have produced stories like ‘Splitends’ and ‘Girl with a beard’ which touches topics like gender incongruence and struggles that a gender fluid person has with their body.
Ria is a LGBTQAI+ youth Activist and the co founder of The Jimme Foundation. They have been working towards creating awareness about issues of gender and sexuality at various platforms through workshops , advertisements and short films. They have also been a training speaker for the youth organisation - The Plane Jar for the past 2 years for their C.A.A.S.A programme. Apart from that Ria has also given a Josh talk in hindi which went trending on number 9 some weeks back . Ria was the part of the collaboration between Anekant production and House on moons where they produced their story 'Splitends'. They have acted for the campco chocolate campaign for their advertisements and was also a part of a documentary film - ‘closet’ , screened at the Kashish Film Festival. LGBT culture
LGBT culture or LGBTQI culture is a culture shared by lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning and intersex people. It is sometimes referred to as queer culture (indicating people who are queer), while the term gay culture may be used to mean "LGBTQI culture," or to refer specifically to homosexual male culture.
LGBT culture varies widely by geography and the identity of the participants. Elements common to cultures of gay, lesbian, bisexual transgender and intersex people include:
- Contemporary LGBT artists and political figures
- Historical figures identified as LGBT, although identifying historical figures with modern terms for sexual identity is controversial (see History of sexuality). However, many LGBT people feel a kinship with these people and their work (particularly that addressing same-sex attraction or gender identity); an example is VictoryFund.org, dedicated to supporting homosexual politicians.
