Robert Lee "Bullet Bob" Hayes (December 20, 1942 – September 18, 2002) was an Olympic sprinter turned American football wide receiver in the National Football League for the Dallas Cowboys. An American track and field athlete, he was a two-sport stand-out in college in both track and football at Florida A&M; University. Hayes was enshrined in the Dallas Cowboys Ring of Honor in 2001 and was selected for induction in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in January 2009. He was officially inducted in Canton, Ohio on August 8, 2009. Hayes is the second Olympic gold medalist to be inducted to the Hall of Fame, after Jim Thorpe.

William Harrison Dillard (born July 8, 1923) is an American athlete, only the second male so far to win Olympic titles in both sprinting and hurdling events. Dillard was born in Cleveland, Ohio, attended East Technical High School. He entered Baldwin-Wallace College in 1941 and joined Pi Lambda Phi International Fraternity, and two years later was drafted into the Army. He returned to college in 1946 and resumed athletics, to which he had been inspired by Jesse Owens, who was also from Cleveland and had attended East Technical High School as well. He won the NCAA and AAU 120-yard and 220-yard hurdles in both 1946 and 1947 and he tied world records in both events with a 22.3 in the 220 in 1946 and a 13.6 in the 120.

The Fastest Man in the World wasn't the fastest man in Jamaica. That honour goes to Yohan Blake, who got out of the blocks fast and finished the 100-meter final in 9.75 seconds to upset world-record holder Usain Bolt by 0.11 seconds in the Jamaican Olympic trials. A shocker? Well, that's for the world to decide. One thing for sure, however, is that the calculus for the London Olympics has changed dramatically. Blake is the reigning world champion but that victory, last year in South Korea, came with an asterisk because Bolt didn't run that night after being disqualified for a false start. This was their first rematch, their first real race since then. Bolt was considered the favourite, not only because of his world record - 9.58 seconds - but because Blake, his training partner had never run below 9.84 in his life. Well, now, he has. The 9.75 seconds goes down as the best time this year and also breaks the four-year-old National Stadium record; both marks were 9.76 - both held by Bolt. As much as the numbers, though, it was all that daylight between Blake and Bolt at the finish line that told this story. Blake, the man known as "The Beast," let out a primal scream when he crossed. Bolt just sort of pulled up - no "To the World" pose or anything else to celebrate. Asafa Powell will join them at the Olympics, after finishing in 9.88. And now for something non rugby. Just to make life more interesting. Usain Bolt's signature swagger was all but absent during his official Maori welcome in Auckland this afternoon. It seems even the world's fastest man gets intimidated at the sight of a traditional New Zealand haka and powhiri. "They scared me a little bit," he says. "That was scary but it was fun -- looks like something that I would like to do... we'll see." The Jamaican sprinter is in New Zealand for less than 24-hours on a Gatorade promotional tour. Tonight he will help launch a new Gatorade partnership with the NZ Breakers and run a coaching clinic for young New Zealand sprinters. Athletics New Zealand chief executive Scott Newman says it's a great opportunity for the country's young sprinters. "It's rare to have the chance to get close to such a world-class athlete, and all those involved will benefit greatly from the experience," says Mr Newman. Speaking at a press conference this afternoon, Bolt says he's been "looking forward" to the trip but joked New Zealand hadn't lived up to it's reputation. "It's the country of the 'long white cloud', but it's raining outside," he says. Bolt set the world record for the 100m -- 9.58s -- three years ago. At this year's London Olympics, he did it in 9.63s.

Usain St. Leo Bolt (Trelawny, 21 augustus 1986) is een Jamaicaanse sprinter. Hij is de huidige wereldrecordhouder en olympisch kampioen op de 100 en 200 m en op de 4 x 100 m estafette, wereldkampioen op de 200 en 4 x 100 m en voormalig wereldkampioen op de 100 m. Bovendien heeft Bolt, bijgenaamd The Lightning Bolt en Thunderbolt, met 19,93 s ook het wereldjeugdrecord op de 200 m in handen en is hij tevens de enige junior (onder de 20 jaar), die erin slaagde deze afstand binnen de 20 seconden te lopen. Hij nam tweemaal deel aan de Olympische Spelen.

Bolt werd geboren op Jamaica en studeerde aan de William Knibb High School. Hij begon op de lagere school met hardlopen, alhoewel zijn eerste liefde cricket was. Hij vindt het spel nog altijd leuk, maar geeft momenteel de voorkeur aan basketbal.
Hij legde zich eerst toe op de 200 m voordat hij overstapte op de 100 m. Op vijftienjarige leeftijd won hij voor een publiek van 30.000 mensen twee gouden medailles op de wereldkampioenschappen voor junioren 2002 in Kingston. Voor deze wedstrijd was hij zo zenuwachtig, dat hij per ongeluk zijn linkerschoen aan zijn rechtervoet deed en omgekeerd. Naar eigen zeggen was dit de laatste keer dat hij zenuwachtig was voor een wedstrijd.[1] Door zijn prestaties kreeg hij de bijnaam "The Lightning Bolt"[2] en "world's fastest man". Een jaar later behaalde hij wederom de wereldtitel op de 200 m op het WK voor junioren in Sherbrooke.

In het olympische jaar 2004 liep hij als eerste junior de 200 m binnen de 20 seconden. Hiermee verbeterde hij het juniorenrecord dat in handen was van Lorenzo Daniel. Op de Olympische Spelen van 2004 in Athene werd Usain Bolt in de vijfde heat met een tijd van 21,05 uitgeschakeld.

Op de Jamaicaanse kampioenschappen 2007 verbeterde Usain Bolt het 36 jaar oude Jamaicaanse record op de 200 m, dat in handen was van Don Quarrie, naar 19,75. Op de wereldkampioenschappen van 2007 in Osaka werd hij tweede achter Tyson Gay in 19,91. Op de 4 x 100 m estafette verbeterde hij met zijn teamgenoten Marvin Anderson, Nesta Carter en Asafa Powell het Jamaicaanse record naar 37,89. Hiermee eindigden ze op een tweede plaats achter de estafetteploegen uit de Verenigde Staten (goud; 37,78) en voor Groot-Brittannië (brons; 37,90).
Op 3 mei 2008 presenteerde Usain Bolt zich als serieuze kandidaat voor olympisch goud door in Kingston tijdens de Jamaica International de 100 m af te leggen in een verrassende 9,76, de op één na snelste tijd ooit. Slechts zijn landgenoot, wereldrecordhouder Asafa Powell, was tot dan toe met 9,74 tweehonderdste seconde sneller. Bolt liep zijn race met een reglementaire rugwind van 1,8 m/sec.
Tijdens een Grand-Prix-wedstrijd in New York op 31 mei 2008 bevestigde hij zijn goede vorm door met een reglementaire rugwind van 1,7 m/sec een nieuw wereldrecord van 9,72 te lopen, tweehonderdste sneller dan het oude record.[3] "Ik was echt verrast toen ik de tijd zag", aldus Bolt, die hoopte op een tijd rond de 9,85 en de 100 m wilde gebruiken om snelheid op te doen voor de 200 m. Bolt finishte voor Tyson Gay (9,85), Darvis Patton (10,07) en Daniel Bailey (10,12). De recordrace werd gelopen na een valse start van een andere atleet in een "race" die pas werd afgeschoten, nadat de lopers al 20 meter weg waren en waarin Bolt een matige start had.

Hoewel Bolt sindsdien bij internationale wedstrijden in Stockholm in een eerste rechtstreekse confrontatie met Asafa Powell op de 100 m door zijn landgenoot is verslagen in 9,88 tegen 9,89, werd hij door zijn wereldrecordrace in New York op de Spelen in Peking de favoriet voor de 100 m, een rol die hij realiseerde door een wereldrecord te lopen van 9,69 en zo de gouden medaille te pakken. Hij was enkele maten te groot voor de concurrentie en vestigde zijn record op de 100 m zonder effectief door te sprinten tot aan de streep. Opmerkelijk genoeg liep hij het wereldrecord met de veter van zijn linkerschoen los.[4]
Vier dagen later behaalde hij zijn tweede goud dit door een wereldrecord van 19,30 te lopen op de 200 m. Dit is tweehonderste seconde sneller dan het twaalf jaar oude wereldrecord van Michael Johnson in Atlanta in '96. Zo werd hij voor het eerst in zijn carrière olympisch kampioen, de eerste man sinds 1984 die de dubbel bemachtigde (100 en 200 m).
Bolt was ook nog succesvol op de 4 x 100 m estafette. Met zijn teamgenoten Nesta Carter, Michael Frater, Asafa Powell liep hij als derde loper opnieuw naar goud. Met een wereldrecordtijd van 37,10 werden de estafetteteams uit Trinidad en Tobago (zilver; 38,06) en Japan (brons; 38,15) verslagen.

Bolt bracht op 16 augustus 2009 het nieuwe wereldrecord op de 100 m sprint op 9,58. Hij leverde deze prestatie tijdens de wereldkampioenschappen in Berlijn en verbeterde zo zijn eigen wereldrecord met elfhonderdste seconde.
Op hetzelfde toernooi verbrak Bolt ook een ander wereldrecord. Op 20 augustus 2009 op de 200 m liep hij een tijd van 19,19, opnieuw elfhonderdste van een seconde sneller dan zijn vorige wereldrecord.

Yohan Blake (Saint James, 26 december 1989) is een Jamaicaanse atleet, die zich heeft toegelegd op de sprint. Hij is na Usain Bolt, Asafa Powell en Nesta Carter de snelste Jamaicaan op de 100 m. Op de 200 m heeft hij de tweede tijd aller tijden staan. Hij woont momenteel in Spanish Town (Jamaica).

Yohan Blake werd geboren in de parish Saint James in het noord-oosten van Jamaica. Zijn eerste grote internationale toernooi waren de wereldjeugdkampioenschappen van 2005, waar hij deelnam aan de 100 m. Hij kwam toen in de finale, waarin hij een zevende plek behaalde. Een jaar later deed hij mee aan de wereldkampioenschappen voor junioren (WJK) in 2006. Hier nam hij deel aan de 4 x 100 m estafette en de 100 m. Hij veroverde op die onderdelen respectievelijk een eerste en derde plaats. Hij deed dat jaar tevens mij aan de Centraal-Amerikaanse en Caraïbische Spelen voor junioren, waar hij kampioen werd op de 100 m.

Twee jaar later in 2008 deed Blake voor de tweede keer aan de WJK, waar hij tweede werd op de 4 x 100 m en vierde bij de 100 m. In datzelfde jaar verbeterde hij het Jamaicaanse juniorenrecord op de 100 m tot 10,11 s tijdens de CARIFTA Spelen (Caraïbisch atletiektoernooi voor landen aangesloten bij de CARIFTA), en won daarbij de wedstrijd in de categorie onder twintig jaar. In 2009 speelde Blake voor het eerst een prominente rol bij de senioren door bij de Golden Gala, een Golden League-wedstrijd op het podium te eindigen achter Tyson Gay en Asafa Powell in een persoonlijk record van 9,96. Hij werd daarmee de gedeeld jongste ooit, die onder de tien seconden op de 100 m heeft gelopen (negentien jaar en 196 dagen oud). Daarna heeft Blake bij verscheidende Golden en later Diamond League-wedstrijden een podiumplek weten te behalen.

Bij de Jamaicaanse kampioenschappen atletiek in juni werd Yohan Blake samen met vier andere Jamaicaanse atleten positief getest op methylxanthine, dat niet meer op de dopinglijst staat. Desondanks besloot de Jamaicaanse atletiekbond Blake uit het estafetteteam van de wereldkampioenschappen in 2009 te zetten. Later bleek, dat het methylhexanamine was, wat wel verboden was en werd Blake samen met drie van de vier andere atleten vanaf september 2009 voor drie maanden geschorst.

Bij de wereldkampioenschappen in 2011 kwalificeerde Blake zich als snelste voor de finale. Toen de gedoodverfde winnaar Usain Bolt werd gediskwalificeerd door een valse start, greep Blake de kans en won het kampioenschap in 9,92, met een ruime voorsprong van 16 honderdsten van een seconde op de nummer twee, Walter Dix. Hij werd hiermee de jongste wereldkampioen op de 100 m.

Jonathan Stephen Ross OBE (Leytonstone, 17 november 1960) is een Engels televisie- en radiopresentator en filmcriticus. In 2005 werd hij verkozen tot 'machtigste man op de radio' door de Radio Times.

Ross is de zoon van actrice en radiopresentatrice Martha Ross. Hij groeide op in Leytonstone en bezocht, evenals zijn oudere broer Paul, de Norlington School for Boys. Paul Ross is journalist en televisie-editor. Zijn andere broers heten Miley (producent en acteur) en Simon (televisieproducent). Ross heeft een opleiding gevolgd aan de Southampton College of Art en studeerde Modern European History op de School of Slavonic and East European Studies aan de University of London.
In 1988 trouwde hij de tien jaar jongere Jane Goldman en samen hebben ze twee dochters en een zoon: Betty Kitten (vernoemd naar Bettie Page), Harvey Kirby (vernoemd naar Jack Kirby) en Honey Kinny. De familie woont in Hampstead, een wijk in Londen met een groot aantal beroemde en vermogende bewoners.
Van Jonathan Ross is bekend dat hij veel huisdieren heeft, waaronder zeven honden, een kat, een leguaan, twee salamanders, twee chinchilla's, een aantal fretten en, zoals hij zich eens in zijn radioshow liet ontvallen, schapen. De talkshow wordt gekenmerkt door een losse stijl van interviewen, met veel persoonlijke en onconventionele vragen, korte intermezzo's waarin Ross vaak zijn eigen gezin betrekt, en korte liedjes van zijn huisband Four Poofs and a Piano ('Vier flikkers en een piano'). Ook presenteert hij vaak speciale shows en specials (zoals de BBC-TV registratie van Live 8).
In april 2006 lekten details van zijn salaris, en dat van andere BBC-beroemdheden, uit naar de pers. Volgens geruchten zou hij rond de £530,000 (ongeveer 795.000 euro) per jaar verdienen voor zijn radioshow. In juni van datzelfde jaar lekte uit dat hij de best betaalde televisiepersoonlijkheid van Groot-Brittannië is doordat zijn contract tot 2010 werd verlengd voor 18 miljoen pond (ongeveer 27 miljoen euro).[1] Hij heeft net een autobiografie geschreven, Why do I say these thing genaamd.
Op 29 oktober 2008 werd hij samen met Russell Brand door de BBC geschorst, na een grappig bedoeld telefoontje aan Andrew Sachs ('Manuel' uit Fawlty Towers). Het duo liet een bericht achter op de voicemail van de 78-jarige Sachs, waarin komiek Brand grapte dat hij seks had gehad met diens kleindochter. De uitzending zorgde voor veel klachten. Zelfs premier Gordon Brown sprak zijn afkeuring uit over het optreden van Ross en Brand.

Asafa Kehine Powell (Spanish Town, 11 november 1982) is een Jamaicaanse sprinter, die is gespecialiseerd in de 100 m en de 200 m. Hij was van 2005 tot 2008 wereldrecordhouder op de 100 m en van 2008 tot 2011 had hij het wereldrecord in handen op de 4 x 100 m estafette.

Powell nam deel aan de Olympische Spelen van 2004 in Athene, maar stelde daarin met een vijfde plaats op de 100 m in 9,94 enigszins teleur.
Op 14 juni 2005 liep Powell voor de eerste maal een wereldrecord op de 100 m; tijdens de Super GP-meeting in het Olympisch Stadion van Athene kwam hij tot een tijd van 9,77. Voordien was het record in het bezit geweest van de Amerikaan Tim Montgomery, die in september 2002 in Parijs een tijd van 9,78 had neergezet. Dezelfde recordtijd liep hij opnieuw op 11 juni 2006 en op 18 augustus 2006.
In het voorjaar van 2006 raakte Powell zijn wereldrecord even kwijt aan Justin Gatlin, een Amerikaanse atleet die eenhonderdste seconde van zijn wereldrecord afliep. Later werd deze tijd gecorrigeerd en hielden zij gezamenlijk het wereldrecord. Nadat Gatlin positief bevonden was aan dopinggebruik, deelde Powell zijn wereldrecord niet meer. In november 2006 werd Asafa Powell verkozen tot atleet van het jaar, samen met atlete Sanya Richards.
Op de wereldkampioenschappen van 2007 in Osaka presteerde Powell beneden zijn kunnen met een bronzen medaille in 9,96 achter Tyson Gay (goud) en Derrick Atkins (zilver). Met zijn teamgenoten Marvin Anderson, Usain Bolt, Nesta Carter won hij daarna een zilveren medaille op de 4 x 100 m estafette. Enkele weken na de WK bleek hij ineens wel over de supervorm te beschikken die hij in Osaka miste. Op 9 september 2007 liep hij in de reeksen van de IAAF Rieti Grand Prix in Rieti (Italië) 9,74 (rugw. +1.7 m/s), een verbetering van zijn eigen wereldrecord met driehonderdste seconden.
Op 31 mei 2008 raakte Powell dit wereldrecord echter alweer kwijt aan zijn landgenoot Usain Bolt, die tijdens een Grand-Prix wedstrijd in New York tot 9,72 kwam.
Ook op de Olympische Spelen van 2008 was Bolt hem te snel af en moest Powell zich met 9,95 tevreden stellen met een vijfde plaats. Op de 4 x 100 m estafette won hij met zijn teamgenoten Nesta Carter, Michael Frater, Usain Bolt als slotloper een gouden medaille. Met een wereldrecordtijd van 37,10 eindigden ze ruim voor de estafetteteams uit Trinidad en Tobago (zilver; 38,06) en Japan (brons; 38,15).
Tijdens de 2008 IAAF Super Grand Prix in Lausanne won Powell de 100 m met een persoonlijk record van 9,72.
Asafa's oudere broer Donovan Powell was halve finalist op de 100 m bij de wereldkampioenschappen in 1999.
