Muhammad Mushtaq Qadri Attari () was a na'at khawan - one who sings praise of the Islamic prophet, Muhammad.

Early life

Mushtaq Qadri was born on a Sunday, 18th of the month of Ramadan, 1386 A.H. (approximately 31 December 1966), in Banoon Sarhad, Pakistan. His father's name was Akhlaq Ahmad. Before permanently moving to Karachi, he lived in Faisalabad.

In 1991 Mushtaq Qadri got married. His ''nikah'' (matrimonal ceremony) was conducted by his mentor Muhammad Ilyas Qadri. He has four children: Obaid Raza Attari; Abdul Mustafa Attari; Faizan Attari; and Ashfaq Attari.

Religious influences

Mushtaq Qadri was a very close associate of the spiritual guide and leader Maulana Muhammad Ilyas Qadri, the head of the Islamic movement Dawat-e-Islami.

In 1986 Mushtaq Qadri gave his spiritual allegiance (''bay'ah'') to Silsila (Link)Qadriya. He is considered as a mentor of Owais Qadri.

Religious positions

First Qadri was an imām at the Madinah Masjid, in Aurangī Town, Karachi. From 1995 until his death, he also served as an imām and speaker in Jamia Masjid Kanz-ul-Imān (Bābrī Chawk, Karachi, Pakistan.) He had memorized eight Juz (sections) of the Quran. He was also a ''qārī'' [one who recites the Quran with its proper recital guidelines.] Considered by some as a erudite Muslim scholar, he had finished four years of Dars-i-Nizami. He worked as an auditor for the government for many years. He taught the English language in Jā’amiāt-ul-Madinah (Sabz Market, Karachi, Pakistan.) He performed the Hajj pilgrimage and visited the holy city of Madinah, Saudia Arabia four times.

In the year 2000 he was appointed as the ''nigrān'' (head of Dawat-e-Islami's activities) of Karachi, Pakistan with the approval of all the nigrāns of Karachi. Later, in October of the same year, he was appointed as the nigrān of Markazī Majlis-e-Shūrā (Dawat-e-Islami’s Central Council).

Due to his dedication to the cause of Dawat-e-Islami, he earned the title Aṭṭār kā Peyārā (the cherished one of Attar). "Attar" refers to Maulana Muhammad Ilyas Attar Qadri.

Non-commercialism

Mushtaq Attari had never accepted payment for reciting na'at poems. Recording companies had offered him handsome amounts for releasing his albums, but he had refused. He would never ask for a ride to take him to programs where he was invited for reciting, nor would he accept money for taxi fare. He never accepted any money made from his recordings, and any proceeds would be forwarded toward funding Dawat-e-Islami righteous projects.

Death

Towards the end of life, Mushtaq Qadri was suffering from throat and chest cancer, and could no longer speak. His spiritual guide, Ilyas Attar Qadri, who was in the United Arab Emirates at that time, phoned him and told him to recite the ''kalima'' (declaration of faith) and Mushtaq Qadri found himself, surprisingly, able to do so. Mushtaq Qadri died on 29th Shaban 1423 A.H. (5 November 2002) in Karachi.

Upon hearing about his death, Muhammad Ilyas Attar Qadri immediately returned to Karachi from the Emirates. The funeral prayer of Mushtaq Attari was offered in Nishtar Park, Karachi, led by Qadri, the founder of Dawat-e-Islami. Mushtaq Attari was buried in Sahrā-e-Madinah (near Toll Plaza, Karachi).

At the burial the attendees were reciting ''durood'' and famous na'at written by Ahmed Raza Khan Bareilvi, such as ''Kaabay Ke Badrudujaa Tum Pe Karroron Durood''. The congregation was held in Faizān-e-Madinaĥ on the third day of the funeral, with many Muslims taking part. Biography

AlHaaj Muhammad Owais Raza Qadri is the crownless king of present day Sana Khawans around the world and undoubtedly the most heartily loved, popular and legend of Sana Khawans, known for his melodious voice and unique style of expressing his great love and respect for the Islamic prophet Muhammad. He emerged with a revolutionary voice and unique style with a zeal to surpass his own targets and a performer par excellence. Today he is an ideal for millions of Ushaqan-e-Rasool across the globe. He is a legend at the age of 38, and the journey has just begun. There are millions of Owais Raza Qadri's fans worldwide who deeply admire and are inspired with him. They longed to know about the personal details which are still undiscovered and how he spent his daily life, so some information was collected about his daily routine. Owais Raza Qadri was married in 1994 and has four children: two daughters and two sons named Mohammad Anis Raza and Mohammad Afif Raza. He started reciting naats at the age of 8 only. He was inspired by AlHaaj Yousuf Ashrafi (late) who was his ideal Naat Khawan also. He did not take special naat classes but acquired the companionship of "Ushaqaan-e-Rasool". All naats are his favorites. Reciting the Kalaam of Imam-e-Ahle-sunnat, Alahazrat Shah Ahmed Raza Khan Sahib Barelvi is most liked by Owais Raza Qadri. His first album was released in 1983 and after that numerous albums have been released. He has traveled to many countries of the world spreading the message of Islam and love for Muhammad including England, Canada, Dubai, Iraq, Iran, Kuwait, India, Hijaz-e-Muqaddas South Africa, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Malawi, Kenya, Maurtus, Botswana, Mapoto, Zambia, Suwaziland, Bangaladesh, Syria etc. Owais Qadri's services for the promotion of naats were recently acknowledged by the Government of Pakistan when he was given the award of Best Naat Khawan in 2007. As a token of respect, he was also weighed in silver by Barkati Foundation in 2008. There are no formalities for the bookings of Mehfil-e-Naat, however, privilege is given to areas where something could be done to promote Islam. Regarding his future plans, Owais Qadri states that he will continue reciting naats and work for getting people back to the path of Sala'at-o-Sunnat. Muhammad Owais Raza Qadri advises new naat khawans that Naat Khawani is Ibaadat and before reciting any naat essential knowledge should be collected about it and special care should be taken to ensure that it is not objectionable by Islamic Shariah. It is best to check all naats with a learned scholar. Furthermore, they should restrain from such acts which can be criticized by others. Addressing the young generation, Muhammad Owais Raza Qadri remarks that undoubtedly success lies within the fact that we must walk on the path guided to us by Allah and Muhammad, leave the way of strangers and always believe in death. Acquire adequate knowledge of Islam and recite at least one Ruku of the Quran (Kanzul Iman) with translation.

Career

Beginning in 1983, he has released several albums, despite having taken no formal na'at classes. Qadri has traveled to England, Canada, Dubai, Iraq, Iran, Kuwait, India, Hijaz-e-Muqaddas South Africa, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Malawi, Kenya, Maurtus, Botswana, Mapoto, Zambia, Suwaziland, Bangaladesh, Syria etc. to recite Anasheed .In vagra Bharuj India,more than 500,000 people attended one of his performances,In Hyderabad, India, more than 200,000 people attended one of his performances, creating the record for most number of attandees in a Mehfil-e-Na'at. In the course of his performances, he advises young people to acquire adequate knowledge of Islam and to recite at least one ruku of the Qur'an and its Kanzul Iman translation.

Awards

2007 - In recognition of his promotion of ''naats'' the Government of Pakistan recognized him as Best Naat Khawan for 2007.

2008 - The Barkati Foundation ceremonially weighed him in silver in recognition of his services for the promotion of na'ats.
