Steam Train: 60163 Tornado, Cathedrals Express, Chertsey - Ely, 12 Dec 2011
LNER Peppercorn A1 Class loco no 60163 "Tornado" pulls The Cathedrals Express steam excursion from Chertsey to Ely on 12th December 2011. The train was a charter for passengers to attend the Christmas carol service in Ely Cathedral. We wee the train leaving Chertsey at 7.45 in the morning, then just over an hour later passing Abinger Hammer, at Hackhurst Farm. "Tornado" is a new-build steam locomotive, completed in 2009 after a 20 year project to recreate the Peppercorn A1 Class, all of which had been scrapped in the 1960's.

Chertsey Level Crossing
Chertsey Level Crossing
Sunday December 11 2011 at 9.05 am. The 8.52 Woking to London Waterloo (10.13) train pulls into Chertsey station. This level crossing with the footbridge and station to the right looks very similar to Addlestone level crossing where the train was 3 minutes earlier. In fact the barriers here must have lowered before the train left Addlestone station as 90 seconds of the wait has been cut and its still a lengthy wait. The line here seems pretty straight so if there was a problem at the crossing a train driver should be able to spot it and stop his train as he is going so slowly anyway. Therefore the barriers could be lowered later. There seem to be some level crossings where there is no chance of there being an accident and others, mainly on high speed lines, which seem dangerous. Chertsey is a small Surrey town 20 miles south-west of central London. The railway line meanders for 26 miles. The platform is short so longer weekday trains stop on this crossing.

16 11 11 St Neots Town 7 v 0 Chertsey Town
You are in for a treat with the most in depth highlights package so far produced by SNTV. Chertsey flew out of the box and started brightly creating chances early on. The Saints first goal by Stefan Moore on 9 minutes may have seemed a little cruel, as it was more or less the Saints first shot on goal. After that the rest is history so they say and a deluge of goals followed with the Saints making the score 3 nil by the 12th minute. The score could and should have finished in double figures but the Saints squandered chances due to the ease at which they were unlocking the visiting teams defence and it all seemed a little too easy at times.

Steam Train: 70000 "Britannia", Cathedrals Express 10 Dec 2011, Chertsey
Steam Train: 70000 "Britannia", Cathedrals Express 10 Dec 2011, Chertsey
Preserved ex-BR Britannia class steam loco, no 70000 "Britannia", pulls Steam Dreams' "Cathedrals Express" steam excursion on 10th December 2011. The train was running from Southend-On-Sea to Winchester, and is seen here at Chertsey. The Britannia Class was a powerful 4-6-2 Pacific design, built by British Railways in the 1950's as part of their standardisation programme, and designed for mainline passenger express traffic. The loco 70000 ""Britannia" was the first of the class, and for the first months of her life she ran in black livery, without nameplates, before being repainted into green. That black livery is what she currently carries, though she is due to be repainted into green shortly, if rumours are to be believed.
