Make Your Own Graph Paper In Windows - Step 1, Drawing A Grid In Paint
Sometime you'll want to knock out a simple graph for a blog or a paper, and you don't have access to a spreadsheet or any desire to learn Excel. You can draw a simple graph in Microsoft Paint or any paint program (all computers have them) very quickly, and because you have 100% control, the results may be better than with a professional program. Hey everyone, once again I want to take a moment and thank you all. I've said it many times before but I'll say it again, it's truly been a pleasure for me to do these comics.
I'm especially gleeful for this one, the final installment of Volume One, because in a way it's a small fulfillment of one of those childhood wishes -- I used to draw out Mario levels and characters on graph paper. I'd move them around and make the little paper Mario jump on the paper Goombas and think, "Man, I wish I could record this." Fast forward some 20 years later and I've finally gotten around to doing something like it. Here's to the 6 year old in your past who always liked to draw cartoons.
"bit and run" will return on Friday, August 6th with Volume Two.

Director's Statement
Using a sheet of graph
paper, which is typically
used for architectural drawings,
I combined straight lines which
stretch out in three directions to
construct the visual. I think that
original fascination with animation is the
limitations. To challenge the limitations,
I started creating animation by using minimal
elements. Apparently, it looks like computer
graphics though it's really digital animation
drawn by hand.

sewing a prom dress
I made a prom dress recently, and decided to film some of it. While this isn't really a full on tutorial, it will give budding designers and fashionistas alike an idea of what goes into making a dress. 1. Draft a sloper. I take a piece of fabric and I drape it over the person. I cut away any fabric that is obviously in the way (armholes, neck hole, etc.). And then I pin it in a few key places to anchor (the apex of the bust and the center seam). Then I smooth the fabric with my hand to move any wrinkles into darts. There are basically 3 places you should make darts: -waist to bust -side to bust -shoulder These can be adjusted, moved, or rotated later, if you so wish. Once I am satisfied with the sloper, I will sketch the outline of the dress that I want. For example, for this dress I would have sketched in a v-neckline, ad then also sketched in a curved, scooped back. 2. I cut the pattern up. First along the outline/shape that was sketched in, and then along the darts or side seams. I then lay this piece of fabric on a some graph paper and sketch it's outline. The paper I use is genius. It's that big graph paper that, like, math teachers use. I was looking for big graph paper to draft patterns with, and I went to several art stores looking for what I had in mind. And while I could find a lot of graph paper pads that were big enough, the graph itself was too small, Like 1mm grid. And while technically this would work, the tiny grid was just to small to be helpful, since ...

Raised Pond wooden: Turtle Pond part 1
Built using 4x4 lumber stacked lincoln log style with rebar pinning together. Build pictures and information: www.redearslider.com My graph-paper drawing: img24.imageshack.us This raised pond was built on August 23, 2008 in Honolulu, Hawaii--average temperature 80 degrees year round (thus turtles don't hibernate). It is currently home to several goldfish (feeders), a few koi, a few turtles (young RES, male RES, and a ..i think a florida red bellied cooter or yellow bellied turtle), a few plecos, and a couple shrimp/prawns. see part 2 and 3 videos for info on the pump/filter. laguna pressure flo 1400, with the 900 pump. thanks for watching! build summary: see the links above for photos and details of supplies. But basically I built this when I was 17 years old, having built nothing before in my life. Thus, if city kid can do this, you can do this too. Home depot did the cutting (just slicing a few of the 8 feet into 4 feets). I had my little brother help me apply the thompson's water seal on all the lumber. Then we drilled the holes into each of the pieces of lumber using a large hand held drill (very tiring). We inserted rebar into these holes and stacked all the wood together, slamming it together with a mallet when things weren't perfect. We then put old carpet inside on the ground and then put in the pond liner. Fill it up, then put on the top wood and screw it down. more info here: www.redearslider.com My graph-paper drawing:
