Add the Punchline to Our Pumpkinhead Cartoon

If you've got wit, add your punchline to Patch's weekly comic and win a personalized print.

Are you blessed with insight and good humor? Or just bored today? Share your wit with your south suburban neighbors by entering Patch's comic caption challenge. Just add your dialogue for today's comic in the comment section of this post. Our only requirement is that you keep it clean! At week's end, we'll pick the winning punchline based on how many of us here at Patch giggle and smile at your contribution. The user who produces the winning punchline will get a personalized proof of the comic, with the winning words and a credit line, from cartoonist Chuck Ingwersen and Patch. Congratulations to LEDA, who provided the winning punchline to last week's Angel Fishing comic: This would be so much more relaxing if that practical joker Moses …

Adopt Me

This Week's Pet: A Fun, Colorful Cat

Meet Baby, a 3-year-old Domestic Shorthair cat looking for an owner who will give her a good chin scratch from time to time.

Baby is a playful, affectionate Domestic Shorthair cat with orange, black and white fur.  She is a 3 years old, and has been living at PAWS Animal Shelter in Tinley Park since May, after her owner passed away. She weighs 16 pounds, she still has her claws and she loves it when people scratch her chin lightly. Baby is also capable of jumping high, so she won't remain in corner for long.  If you're interested in adoption, contact the shelter at 815-464-7298 or visit its website. Looking for more adoptable pets? Gus, an orange domestic short hair, is waiting for a new home. Buggs, a Retriever Labrador mix, still has a lot of love to give. Success stories include Millie, a lovable pointer mix found a new home, as did Patches the cat. Rosie and…

Hey, Mom and Dad: What's The Best Parenting Advice Your Parents Gave You?

Parents, Patch wants to hear from you on the questions that get families talking.

Welcome to "Hey, Mom and Dad"—a weekly feature in which we ask our Facebook fans to share their views on parenting. Every week, we get the conversation started by taking a look back at a question we asked parents the week before on Patch Facebook pages from around the area. By this point, most of us have realized that parenting is much harder and more complicated than it may have seemed when we were children. There are countless schools of thought on parenting, everyone has their own opinions and the list of do's and don't's grows by the minute. That leads us to this week's question: Take a look at what people had to say and join the conversation in the comments section. Jim Dydo: Don't let them run wild in public, manners and respect. —on…

Establish an open relationship with your kids so that they know that they can talk to you about anything. Some conversations are hard to have but better your kids learn about alcohol, sex and drugs from you than their peers or by experimenting. That one awkward conversation may save their life some day!!   more ›
