The route Merak to Chushul, with no roads, and the road has to be tracked by the Tyre marks on army convoys.. And the closest to the Chinese border, with a 15000ft above sea level is Pangong Tso a high altitude lake. N sorry for d shaky video, as it was mounted in the handle bar and recorded.

MAJOR SHAITAN SINGH: A STORY OF UNMATCHED BRAVERY
Major Shaitan Singh Bhati, PVC (1 December 1924 - 18 November 1962) was an Indian Army officer, who was awarded Param Vir Chakra, the highest wartime gallantry medal, posthumously, for his leadership and courage during the Sino-Indian War of 1962.
In the 1962 Sino-Indian War, The 'Ahir' Company of the 13th Kumaon battalion, led by Shaitan Singh, held this crucial position at Rezang La, a pass on the south-eastern approach to Chushul Valley in Ladakh, in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, at a height of 5,000 metres (16,404 feet). The company area was defended by three platoon positions and the surrounding terrain isolated it from the rest of the battalion. The expected Chinese attack on Rezang La came on November 18 in the morning. It was the end of a very cold winter night, with light snow falling. The icy winds howling through Rezang La were biting and benumbing. More than the thin air and cold, the location of Rezang La had a more serious drawback. It was crested to Indian artillery because of an intervening feature, which meant that they had to make without the protective comfort of the big guns. In the dim light of the morning, the Chinese were seen advancing through nullahs to attack No.7 and No.8 platoon positions.[1]
The Indian Army troops fell on their prepared positions to face the Chinese offensive. At 05:00 when the visibility improved, both platoons opened up on the advancing Chinese with rifles, light machine guns, grenades and mortars. Indian artillery could, however, not be used. The nullahs were littered with dead bodies. The survivors took position behind boulders and the dead bodies. The Chinese, though they failed the first frontal attack, were not discouraged. They subjected the Indian positions to intense artillery and mortar fire at about 05:40. Soon, about 350 Chinese troops commenced advance through the nullahs. This time, No.9 Platoon, which held fire till the enemy was within 90 metres, opened up with all weapons in their possession. Within minutes, the nullahs were again full of dead bodies, mainly of the Chinese.[1]

Unsuccessful in frontal attack, the enemy, approximately 400 strong, then attacked from the rear of the company position. They simultaneously opened intense medium machine gun fire on No.8 Platoon. This attack was contained at the barbed wire fencing of the post.The Chinese then resorted to heavy artillery and mortar shelling. An assault group of 120 Chinese also charged No.7 Platoon position from the rear. However, Indian Army 3-inch mortar killed many of them. When 20 survivors charged the post, about a dozen Kumaonis rushed out of their trenches to engage them in hand-to-hand combat. Meanwhile, the Chinese brought up fresh reinforcements. The encirclement of No.7 Platoon was now complete. The platoon, however, fought valiantly till there was no survivor. No.8 Platoon also fought bravely to the last round.[1]
Singh displayed exemplary leadership and courage in the battle of Rezang La. By all accounts, he led his troops most admirably. Unmindful of his personal safety he moved from one platoon post to another and encouraged his men to fight. While moving among the posts he was seriously wounded by a sniping Chinese MMG, but he continued to fight along with his men. While he was being evacuated by two of his comrades, the Chinese brought heavy machine gun fire on them. Singh sensed danger to their lives and ordered them to leave him. They placed him behind a boulder on the slopes of a hill, where he died, still gripping his weapon.[1]
The Chinese announced a unilateral ceasefire on November 21, 1962.
In this action, 114 Ahirs out of a total of 123 were killed. Of the 9 were severely injured. The Chinese suffered over 1 thousand casualties.[2][citation needed] After the war was over, the body of Singh was found at the same place, dead from the bullet wound and the freezing cold. It was flown to Jodhpur and cremated with full military honours. Singh was awarded Param Vir Chakra, the highest wartime gallantry medal, posthumously, for his leadership and devotion to duty.

The Sino-Indian War (Hindi: भारत-चीन युद्ध Bhārat-Chīn Yuddh), also known as the Sino-Indian Border Conflict (simplified Chinese: 中印边境战争; traditional Chinese: 中印邊境戰爭; pinyin: Zhōng-Yìn Biānjìng Zhànzhēng), was a war between China and India that occurred in 1962. A disputed Himalayan border was the main pretext for war, but other issues played a role. There had been a series of violent border incidents after the 1959 Tibetan uprising, when India had granted asylum to the Dalai Lama. India initiated a Forward Policy in which it placed outposts along the border, including several north of the McMahon Line, the eastern portion of a Line of Actual Control proclaimed by Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai in 1959.
Unable to reach political accommodation on disputed territory along the 3,225-kilometre-long Himalayan border,[8] the Chinese launched simultaneous offensives in Ladakh and across the McMahon Line on 20 October 1962. Chinese troops advanced over Indian forces in both theatres, capturing Rezang la in Chushul in the western theatre, as well as Tawang in the eastern theatre. The war ended when China declared a ceasefire on 20 November 1962, and simultaneously announced its withdrawal from the disputed area. Indian posts and patrols were removed from Aksai Chin, which came under direct Chinese control after the end of the conflict.
The Sino-Indian War is notable for the harsh mountain conditions under which much of the fighting took place, entailing large-scale combat at altitudes of over 4,000 metres (14,000 feet).[9] The Sino-Indian War was also noted for the non-deployment of the navy or air force by either the Chinese or Indian side.
It is noteworthy that the buildup and offensive from China occurred concurrently with the 13-day Cuban Missile Crisis (October 16–28, 1962) that saw both the United States and the Soviet Union confronting each other, and India did not receive assistance from either of these world powers until the Cuban Missile Crisis was resolved.
China and India shared a long border, sectioned into three stretches by Nepal, Sikkim (then an Indian protectorate), and Bhutan, which follows the Himalayas between Burma and what was then West Pakistan. A number of disputed regions lie along this border. At its western end is the Aksai Chin region, an area the size of Switzerland, that sits between the Chinese autonomous region of Xinjiang and Tibet (which China declared as an autonomous region in 1965). The eastern border, between Burma and Bhutan, comprises the present Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh (formerly the North East Frontier Agency). Both of these regions were overrun by China in the 1962 conflict.
Most combat took place at high altitudes. The Aksai Chin region is a desert of salt flats around 5,000 metres above sea level, and Arunachal Pradesh is mountainous with a number of peaks exceeding 7,000 metres. The Chinese Army had possession of one of the highest ridges in the regions.

Chushul
Chushul is a village in the Leh district of Jammu and Kashmir, India. It is located in the Leh tehsil, in the area known as "Chushul Valley".
Demographics
According to the 2011 census of India, Chushul has 148 households. The effective literacy rate (i.e. the literacy rate of population excluding children aged 6 and below) is 61.47%.

Indo-China Border Personnel Meeting (BPM) Point
Chushul is one of the four officially agreed BPM (Border Personnel Meeting) point between Indian Army and People's Liberation Army of China for regular consultations and interactions between the two armies, which helps in defusing face-offs. The four BPM are: Chushul in Ladakh, Nathu La in Sikkim, Bum La Pass in Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh and Lipulekh Pass in Uttarakhand close to Qiang.

Rezang La
Rezang La is a pass on the south-eastern approach to Chushul Valley in Ladakh, in the state of Jammu and Kashmir in India. It is 3,000 yards long and 2,000 yards wide, with an average height of 16,000 feet.
1962 battle
Rezang La was the site of the last stand of the 13 Kumaon, an all-Yadav company, during the Sino-Indian War in 1962. The company led by Major Shaitan Singh, who won a posthumous Param Vir Chakra for his actions. From the Indian point of view, Rezang La had the drawback that an intervening feature blocked artillery operation, so that the Indian infantry had to do without artillery cover.
In this action on 18 November 1962, 114 Indian soldiers out of a total of 124 were killed. A memorial in Rewari, where most of the Ahir soldiers came from, states that 1700 Chinese soldiers were killed in the battle. A memorial was constructed near Dharuhera Chowk in Rewari city by Rezangla Shaurya Samiti. Every year, memorial functions are held by the Samiti in collaboration with district administration and the Kumaon Regiment, and family members of those who died at Rezangla also take part.

A disputed Himalayan border was the main pretext for war, but other issues played a role. There had been a series of violent border incidents after the 1959 Tibetan uprising, when India had granted asylum to the Dalai Lama. India initiated a Forward Policy in which it placed outposts along the border, including several north of the McMahon Line, the eastern portion of a Line of Actual Control proclaimed by Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai in 1959. Unable to reach political accommodation on disputed territory along the 3,225-kilometre-long Himalayan border,[8] the Chinese launched simultaneous offensives in Ladakh and across the McMahon Line on 20 October 1962. Chinese troops advanced over Indian forces in both theatres, capturing Rezang la in Chushul in the western theatre, as well as Tawang in the eastern theatre. The war ended when China declared a ceasefire on 20 November 1962, and simultaneously announced its withdrawal from the disputed area. Indian posts and patrols were removed from Aksai Chin, which came under direct Chinese control after the end of the conflict. The Sino-Indian War is notable for the harsh mountain conditions under which much of the fighting took place, entailing large-scale combat at altitudes of over 4,000 metres (14,000 feet).[9] The Sino-Indian War was also noted for the non-deployment of the navy or air force by either the Chinese or Indian side. It is noteworthy that the buildup and offensive from China occurred concurrently with the 13-day Cuban Missile Crisis (October 16–28, 1962) that saw both the United States and the Soviet Union confronting each other, and India did not receive assistance from either of these world powers until the Cuban Missile Crisis was resolved. China and India shared a long border, sectioned into three stretches by Nepal, Sikkim (then an Indian protectorate), and Bhutan, which follows the Himalayas between Burma and what was then West Pakistan. A number of disputed regions lie along this border. At its western end is the Aksai Chin region, an area the size of Switzerland, that sits between the Chinese autonomous region of Xinjiang and Tibet (which China declared as an autonomous region in 1965). The eastern border, between Burma and Bhutan, comprises the present Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh (formerly the North East Frontier Agency). Both of these regions were overrun by China in the 1962 conflict. Most combat took place at high altitudes. The Aksai Chin region is a desert of salt flats around 5,000 metres above sea level, and Arunachal Pradesh is mountainous with a number of peaks exceeding 7,000 metres. The Chinese Army had possession of one of the highest ridges in the regions. -

The route Merak to Chushul, with no roads, and the road has to be tracked by the Tyre marks on army convoys.. And the closest to the Chinese border, with a 15000ft above sea level is Pangong Tso a high altitude lake. N sorry for d shaky video, as it was mounted in the handle bar and recorded.

Major Shaitan Singh Bhati, PVC (1 December 1924 - 18 November 1962) was an Indian Army officer, who was awarded Param Vir Chakra, the highest wartime gallantry medal, posthumously, for his leadership and courage during the Sino-Indian War of 1962.
In the 1962 Sino-Indian War, The 'Ahir' Company of the 13th Kumaon battalion, led by Shaitan Singh, held this crucial position at Rezang La, a pass on the south-eastern approach to Chushul Valley in Ladakh, in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, at a height of 5,000 metres (16,404 feet). The company area was defended by three platoon positions and the surrounding terrain isolated it from the rest of the battalion. The expected Chinese attack on Rezang La came on November 18 in the morning. It was the end of a very cold winter night, with light snow falling. The icy winds howling through Rezang La were biting and benumbing. More than the thin air and cold, the location of Rezang La had a more serious drawback. It was crested to Indian artillery because of an intervening feature, which meant that they had to make without the protective comfort of the big guns. In the dim light of the morning, the Chinese were seen advancing through nullahs to attack No.7 and No.8 platoon positions.[1]
The Indian Army troops fell on their prepared positions to face the Chinese offensive. At 05:00 when the visibility improved, both platoons opened up on the advancing Chinese with rifles, light machine guns, grenades and mortars. Indian artillery could, however, not be used. The nullahs were littered with dead bodies. The survivors took position behind boulders and the dead bodies. The Chinese, though they failed the first frontal attack, were not discouraged. They subjected the Indian positions to intense artillery and mortar fire at about 05:40. Soon, about 350 Chinese troops commenced advance through the nullahs. This time, No.9 Platoon, which held fire till the enemy was within 90 metres, opened up with all weapons in their possession. Within minutes, the nullahs were again full of dead bodies, mainly of the Chinese.[1]

Unsuccessful in frontal attack, the enemy, approximately 400 strong, then attacked from the rear of the company position. They simultaneously opened intense medium machine gun fire on No.8 Platoon. This attack was contained at the barbed wire fencing of the post.The Chinese then resorted to heavy artillery and mortar shelling. An assault group of 120 Chinese also charged No.7 Platoon position from the rear. However, Indian Army 3-inch mortar killed many of them. When 20 survivors charged the post, about a dozen Kumaonis rushed out of their trenches to engage them in hand-to-hand combat. Meanwhile, the Chinese brought up fresh reinforcements. The encirclement of No.7 Platoon was now complete. The platoon, however, fought valiantly till there was no survivor. No.8 Platoon also fought bravely to the last round.[1]
Singh displayed exemplary leadership and courage in the battle of Rezang La. By all accounts, he led his troops most admirably. Unmindful of his personal safety he moved from one platoon post to another and encouraged his men to fight. While moving among the posts he was seriously wounded by a sniping Chinese MMG, but he continued to fight along with his men. While he was being evacuated by two of his comrades, the Chinese brought heavy machine gun fire on them. Singh sensed danger to their lives and ordered them to leave him. They placed him behind a boulder on the slopes of a hill, where he died, still gripping his weapon.[1]
The Chinese announced a unilateral ceasefire on November 21, 1962.
In this action, 114 Ahirs out of a total of 123 were killed. Of the 9 were severely injured. The Chinese suffered over 1 thousand casualties.[2][citation needed] After the war was over, the body of Singh was found at the same place, dead from the bullet wound and the freezing cold. It was flown to Jodhpur and cremated with full military honours. Singh was awarded Param Vir Chakra, the highest wartime gallantry medal, posthumously, for his leadership and devotion to duty.

The Sino-Indian War (Hindi: भारत-चीन युद्ध Bhārat-Chīn Yuddh), also known as the Sino-Indian Border Conflict (simplified Chinese: 中印边境战争; traditional Chinese: 中印邊境戰爭; pinyin: Zhōng-Yìn Biānjìng Zhànzhēng), was a war between China and India that occurred in 1962. A disputed Himalayan border was the main pretext for war, but other issues played a role. There had been a series of violent border incidents after the 1959 Tibetan uprising, when India had granted asylum to the Dalai Lama. India initiated a Forward Policy in which it placed outposts along the border, including several north of the McMahon Line, the eastern portion of a Line of Actual Control proclaimed by Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai in 1959.
Unable to reach political accommodation on disputed territory along the 3,225-kilometre-long Himalayan border,[8] the Chinese launched simultaneous offensives in Ladakh and across the McMahon Line on 20 October 1962. Chinese troops advanced over Indian forces in both theatres, capturing Rezang la in Chushul in the western theatre, as well as Tawang in the eastern theatre. The war ended when China declared a ceasefire on 20 November 1962, and simultaneously announced its withdrawal from the disputed area. Indian posts and patrols were removed from Aksai Chin, which came under direct Chinese control after the end of the conflict.
The Sino-Indian War is notable for the harsh mountain conditions under which much of the fighting took place, entailing large-scale combat at altitudes of over 4,000 metres (14,000 feet).[9] The Sino-Indian War was also noted for the non-deployment of the navy or air force by either the Chinese or Indian side.
It is noteworthy that the buildup and offensive from China occurred concurrently with the 13-day Cuban Missile Crisis (October 16–28, 1962) that saw both the United States and the Soviet Union confronting each other, and India did not receive assistance from either of these world powers until the Cuban Missile Crisis was resolved.
China and India shared a long border, sectioned into three stretches by Nepal, Sikkim (then an Indian protectorate), and Bhutan, which follows the Himalayas between Burma and what was then West Pakistan. A number of disputed regions lie along this border. At its western end is the Aksai Chin region, an area the size of Switzerland, that sits between the Chinese autonomous region of Xinjiang and Tibet (which China declared as an autonomous region in 1965). The eastern border, between Burma and Bhutan, comprises the present Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh (formerly the North East Frontier Agency). Both of these regions were overrun by China in the 1962 conflict.
Most combat took place at high altitudes. The Aksai Chin region is a desert of salt flats around 5,000 metres above sea level, and Arunachal Pradesh is mountainous with a number of peaks exceeding 7,000 metres. The Chinese Army had possession of one of the highest ridges in the regions.

Journey to Hanle via Chushul and Leh - A Himalayan Expedition
Summary: 14 days, 4 bikes, 5 guys and ~3000 kms Route: Delhi-Manali-Leh-Khardungla-Pangong-Chushul-Nyoma-Hanle-Tsomoriri-Pang-Sarchu-Jispa-Manali-Delhi I have not named it as a Leh Trip as the real part of the trip started after Leh which was a complete unknown territory with no roads, India on one side and china on the other. The only thing to guide us was electric lines and some tyre marks. We drove through river beds, across rivers and sand which tested us physically, mentally and tested our team spirit. Route: Delhi-Manali-Leh-Khardungla-Pangong-Chushul-Nyoma-Hanle-Tsomoriri-Pang-Sarchu-Jispa-Manali-Delhi
I have not named it as a Leh Trip as the real part of the trip started after Leh which was a complete unknown territory with no roads, India on one side and china on the other. The only thing to guide us was electric lines and some tyre marks. We drove through river beds, across rivers and sand which tested us physically, mentally and tested our team spirit.
Please be aware, that if you want to cover this route you'll need inner line permits from D.C Office, Leh. If you're a foreign national you probably are not permitted sadly. This route was being open for public visits not too long ago as far as we know.

Hurdles:
Recovered from 7 punctures , 2 sparkplug failure, one battery and airfilter failure. Two riders were injured - one rider had a ligament injury near his wrists as he had to lay down his bike.

Day 5 Leh permits and local sightseeing
Day 6 Leh - Khardungla - Diskit 120km
Day 7 Diskit - Hunder - Leh 137 km
Day 8 Leh - Changla - Pangong Lake - Spangmik 170 km
Day 9 Spangmik - Changla - Leh 170 km

On 13th may I will be leaving for Tapovan/Gangotri trekking so I will have no time to publish any videos. But definitely, whenever I will be back from leh I will bring back many ultimate videos of leh on daily basis.
If u are going Solo the cost will be around 20-25k , if in group then depends upon the number of person in group so most probably 18-20k ..
But most importantly u can't guess the costing for those who compromises on living standard I.e hotel and food while travelling ... that cost of 18-25k is not for them .

India being a peninsula has very few exit points to another country! In the Southern part of the Country, one cannot go by land to another Country. However, in the West, North & East, there are a few places till where one could ride, and get a nice view of a neighbouring Country! In some cases, one can actually even enter another Country!
Here are 9 such places where you can ride to, very very close to the borders!
1. CHUSHUL, LADAKH:
Ladakh has been becoming a popular destination for riders over the past few years. While most people ride up till Pangong Tso Lake till either Lukung or Spangmik, very very few ride further alongside the Pangong Tso.
Doing this route requires permits from Leh, but it is a route that you don't want to miss the next time you are in Ladakh!
45 kms ahead of Spangmik is Chushul, a very small village with great ITBP presence, due to the village's proximity to China. Among all the mountains you will see from here, there will be a mix of Indian & Chinese mountains!
How far? 15 kms
Neighbouring Country: China
Can you cross the border?
No. This is as far as one can get to China from here!
2. TURTUK, JAMMU & KASHMIR:
You could ride to Turtuk while on a Ladakh ride itself. Keep an extra day when you visit Hunder Sand dunes beyond Khardung La, and it will definitely be a day that will go down as one of your most memorable days in life!
The little village Turtuk is the Northernmost village of India, beyond which lies Pakistan occupied Kashmir. This village was actually part of Pakistan till 1971, when India gained control of this beautiful little village.
How far? 10 kms
Neighbouring Country: Pakistan
Can you cross the border?
No. Crossing borders into Pakistan for Indians is out of question.
3. PHUENTSHOLING, BHUTAN:
Crossing borders probably doesn't get easier than this. You could just ride straight into Bhutan with your Indian registered bike, and just your Indian DL from West Bengal in India. You do not even need a passport to visit Bhutan!
4. MOREH, MANIPUR:
Moreh in Manipur is the point that you can ride till in the eastern part of India, beyond which lies Myanmar. This is the only exit from East India that allows Indians to ride on Indian registered bikes.
However, crossing over to Myanmar isn't as simple as is to Bhutan, but innumerable riders have rode out of India from this exit point into Myanmar and beyond over the past year!
5. LAKHPAT, GUJARAT:
Lakhpat lies in the vast and beautiful salt plains of Kutch in Gujarat and is part of the Great Rann of Kutch. It is the westernmost area of India with very close proximity to Pakistan.
How far? 10 kms
Neighbouring Country: Pakistan
Can you cross the border?
No. Crossing borders into Pakistan for Indians is out of question.
6. DHARCHULA, UTTARAKHAND:
Dharchula is a beautiful town located on the Indo-Nepal border in Uttarakhand, set amidst snow-clad Panchchuli peaks. Dharchula is connected to Nepal by just a bridge built over River Kali. Cross the bridge, and you are in Nepal!
Can you cross the border?
Yes. People from both sides cross this bridge every day, so long as there is no cargo.
7. MALDA, WEST BENGAL:
Malda, the Mango City of India lies very close to the Bangaldesh border. Earlier called English Bazaar, Malda has some beautiful architectural sites that are totally worth checking out!
How far? 12 kms
8. NATHU LA, SIKKIM:
Nathu La is the only border crossing between India and China where Indians are allowed to walk into China. This is because of the huge number of Indians travelling to the pilgrim place Mansarovar, via this route. One can ride all the way up to Nathu La pass, where both Indian and Chinese soldiers are seen manning the border as there is no no-man's land here between the two countries.
Can you cross the border?
Yes, but not by motorcycles.
9. GUE VILLAGE, HIMACHAL PRADESH:
A small detour off the main road of the Spiti highway connecting Shimla to Kaza brings you to the little village of Gue. It is an absolutely stunning ride to get here, where exists a 700 year old Mummy of a Lama, in the temple called Gue Mummy Lama Temple. The view from the temple perched on a hill is absolutely gorgeous!
How Far? 3-4 kms

Dharchula is a beautiful town located on the Indo-Nepal border in Uttarakhand, set amidst snow-clad Panchchuli peaks. Dharchula is connected to Nepal by just a bridge built over River Kali. Cross the bridge, and you are in Nepal!

Yes. People from both sides cross this bridge every day, so long as there is no cargo.
7. MALDA, WEST BENGAL:
Malda, the Mango City of India lies very close to the Bangaldesh border. Earlier called English Bazaar, Malda has some beautiful architectural sites that are totally worth checking out!

8. NATHU LA, SIKKIM:
Nathu La is the only border crossing between India and China where Indians are allowed to walk into China. This is because of the huge number of Indians travelling to the pilgrim place Mansarovar, via this route. One can ride all the way up to Nathu La pass, where both Indian and Chinese soldiers are seen manning the border as there is no no-man's land here between the two countries.

9. GUE VILLAGE, HIMACHAL PRADESH:
A small detour off the main road of the Spiti highway connecting Shimla to Kaza brings you to the little village of Gue. It is an absolutely stunning ride to get here, where exists a 700 year old Mummy of a Lama, in the temple called Gue Mummy Lama Temple. The view from the temple perched on a hill is absolutely gorgeous!
