American People "What Scottish People Think" Part 1
American People the world over are people very much disliked or hated, for me I felt I wanted to speak my mind of my view. I personally feel it is very ignorant to sit and label all Americans with the one brush, all you ever hear is how American people are stupid, ignorant or arrogant, yet do these same people ever stare themselves in the mirror. I know plenty of ignorant and arrogant people in my own country, but does that mean to say all Scots should be labelled the same way? Of course not. It's blatantly ignorant that every American person should be labelled all in the one basket, tarred with the one brush, just because of ignorant individuals. Sure I've came across a lot of ignorance from people who are American, but I have certainly came across a lot of wonderful people as well, I don't let ignorant individuals tar my image of a nation and it's people, I think it's wrong to do so. I find it sad of course, when an American calls himself Irish or Scottish, because he or she is proud of their heritage, they literately adore Scotland and Ireland, and then along comes a Scotsman or Irishman who destroys their dreams by stamping all over them like a herd of elephants. At the end of the day, if Americans want to call themselves Scottish or Irish, good on them, I'm personally happy if they do want to. Just because you perhaps came across some American who thinks their more Scottish than you are or more Irish, doesn't mean they're all like that. It's sad when people in my own ...

85 Year old American-Scottish revert to Islam, Why? New 2011
Would you believe this 30 years ago? Two elderly white western men one Texan (former priest now Muslim Scholar) and the other American-Scottish talking about performing pilgrimage to Meccah to worship Allah instead of talking about how they performed in the neighborhood Casino slots!. Everyone is born Muslim submitting his/her will to our creator but they are then take different path because of their family, society, ... etc that is why a person who becomes Muslim is called revert not convert. Yes, it is here, Allah and his messenger said that Islam will reach every corner on earth (so everyone will know about it) just when the world is turning godless and corruption and oppression is so spread out and the last hour count down is closing to the Zero, exactly, the time we live in .. now... thedeenshow.com

NARRATOR:
PEOPLE AROUND THE WORLD BELEIVE THAT THEY CAN USE ORDINARY CASSETTE PLAYERS TO RECORD MESSAGES THEY SAY ARE THE VOICES OF THE DEAD. THE DEVOTEES OF AN ACOUSTIC ANOMALY CALLED THE ELECTRONIC VOICE PHENOMENA MAKE TAPES THEY SAY PROVE THE AFTERLIFE EXISTS. BY SIMPLY RECORDING PAUSES IN SILENT ROOMS, THE FAITHFUL BELIEVE ANYONE CAN SUMMON THE DEAD TO LEAVE MESSAGES THAT CAN CURE GRIEF, RESTORE FAITH, AND EVEN GIVE A GLIMPSE OF HEAVEN.

Alec McRae:
Well I'm going to a spot where I think I may be able to get archaic voices on the Electronic Voice Apparatus, which I've got with me. And it's an experiment, we'll see how it goes. It'll be interesting if it happens.
NARRATOR:
ALEC IS AN INTERNATIONAL DESIGNER OF VOICE COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS. HE DEVELOPED SPEECH ENHANCERS FOR NASA'S SPACE SHUTTLE ASTRONAUTS, AND WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR RADIO LINKS FOR LONDON'S UNDERGROUND TRAINS. IT WAS TWENTY YEARS AGO THAT ALEC READ ABOUT THE ELECTRONIC VOICE PHENOMENA, KNOWN AS EVP.
Alec McRae:
I sort came across of EVP by accident, and I rejected I totally at first when I read about it. It was something about tape recording the voices of people where they had died. I knew that was nonsense and that couldn't be done, so I slung that back on the shelf. A couple of weeks later I found there were people prominent in the electronics industry involved, and I thought, if it was good enough for them, I'd take a look at it as well.
NARRATOR:
ALEC DECIDED TO BUILD HIS OWN MACHINE TO SEE IF HE TOO COULD HEAR THE VOICES OF THE DEAD.
Records At Waterfall.
Alex Walks Mountain Path.
Mountains, Waterfall.
Alec Opens Machine.
Alec Works Machine.
Alec McRae:
It is like a radio transmitter, which one controls by placing one's hands on those plates here, and this modifies the radio signal, which is picked up by the radio here, and which is converted into sound of course within the radio, that is recorded on the tape recorder. Then when we listen back to that, we find that sometimes you will get a voice sound on there.
Alec playback of Karl Johnson.
NARRATOR:
WHEN ALEC LISTENED TO HIS VERY FIRST RECORDING HE WAS CONVINCED HE COULD HEAR THE VOICE OF A DEAD MAN.
EVP Voice:
Karl Johnson.
Alec in front of computer.
Alec McRae:
That was the first EVP voice that I ever recorded; what it seemed to me to be saying in a very strange, sick, kinda voice was: Karl Johnson, Karl die here. It tails off at the end, as though somebody really was on their last legs.
Speech Waves On Computer.
Mouse Cutaway.
Alec McRae:
They are definitely speech forms and not static. It had quite an impact, really, it was quite convincing.
NARRATOR:
ALEC'S PROFESSIONAL INTEREST IN PERFECTING A MACHINE TO REACH THE DEAD TURNED PERSONAL WHEN SOMEONE HE LOVED DIED.
Alec at father's graveside
Alec McRae:
This is the grave of my father. He died on fifth January 1982. It spurred on my interest in EVP because here was a person who I had known who was gone, all that life was gone, and it made one think, what is it about, and we don't know, so EVP is a way of finding out a bit more.
Alec walks out of graveyard.
NARRATOR:
BUT AFTER 20 YEARS OF LISTENING, ALEC HAS HEARD NOTHING BUT THE VOICES OF STRANGERS.
Hold on empty graveyard.
Music - slowed down chorus "Where's your mama gone"
Judith introduction with photo albums.
Green seance.

EVP found me, I didn't find it.

Moyers & Company Show 130: Full Show: Suppressing the Vote
For more information go to billmoyers.com
The fight against voter fraud is a solution in search of a problem -- these days, documented instances of voter fraud are virtually non-existent. Nonetheless, since the 2010 mid-term elections, 10 states have passed laws requiring government-issued photo IDs to vote -- identification that for many is too expensive or otherwise difficult to obtain.
This week on Moyers & Company (check local listings), Bill talks to Keesha Gaskins and Michael Waldman of the Brennan Center for Justice about accusations that new voter ID and other election laws are thinly-veiled attempts to keep the young, elderly, minorities and the poor from exercising one of the most fundamental American rights.
“When these votes come under attack by this level of partisan gamesmanship, it's completely inappropriate and antithetical to our history,” Gaskins tells Bill. “This is a very real political issue, but beyond that, this is a real issue of real Americans being able to access and be self-determinative in how we're governed.”
Also on the program, Bill talks with independent filmmaker Anthony Baxter, director of You’ve Been Trumped!, a new documentary about the perils of rampant capitalism and gluttonous conspicuous consumption, epitomized by Donald Trump’s aggressive efforts to build “the greatest golf course in the world” across ancient sand dunes in Scotland. A veteran journalist, Baxter says what Trump and the Scottish government are hailing as an economic boon is actually a disaster to the environment and a callous disruption of people’s lives by a ruthless one-percenter run amok.
“It seems to me there's one rule for the super-rich and one rule for everybody else,” Baxter says. “And the 99 percent of people in the world are tired and fed up of having money and power riding roughshod over their lives and our planet… Our planet, I don't think, can afford these kinds of decisions.”
To end the broadcast, Bill shares his thoughts on the 47th anniversary of Medicare -- the apex of Lyndon Johnson's ambitious vision for America. Bill was a key Johnson aide as they developed Medicare and pressed Congress to pass it. How to save Medicare today? The answer, says Bill, is obvious: make it available to every American.

Nonetheless, in fourteen states, new election laws passed by Republican-dominated legislatures since the 2010 midterm elections seek to limit voter registration or require government-issued photo IDs to vote -- identification that for many is too expensive or otherwise difficult to obtain.

The ever inventive and superbly talented Scottish Dance Theatre return to the LBT with two new works from American choreographers.

KHAOS
There are contradictions in life. People dream of love, yet protect fiercely against heartbreak, we can be generous and selfish - both in the same day. In this piece, dancers are like atoms with positive and negative charges, floating around in space ready to make explosive reactions. On stage, a huge white inflatable swells to create a big bang. The Choreographer is San Francisco based Benjamin Levy, Voice of Dance describes him as ‘indecently talented’.

Caledonian Trilogy
My Love is Like A Red, Red Rose by Robert Burns closes this film about Scots-American links, made with the help of a tartanised version of Elvis Presleys American Trilogy . More at ayewecan.blogspot.com Produced for the first ever official visit of the new Scottish Parliament (or any Scottish Parliament!) to the US Parliament (The Senate and House) during Tartan Day 2001, it is now revived to help celebrate Rabbie's 250th birthday and Barack's inauguration, both just five days apart. McElvis is joined by his Sweet Inspirations, who include Members of The Scottish Parliament, Pauline McNeil (Labour) , Lindsey McIntosh (Conservative) and Margo MacDonald, (SNP then, now independent). The Bard though has the last word, with the assistance of the first man on the moon, Scots- American, Neil Armstrong! A moon landing, a little share in Americas first black President's heritage, and the most revered poet of all time - celebrated in Washington, Alloway and Moscow to name but three venues. Not bad for our national bard 250 years on. Not bad for oor wee nation either! And theres much, much more. Just watch and be amazed and updated at the very end for 2009 !

A Short Story in the Scots Language - the Original American as originally spoken
Now only heard in Scotland, King James the VI spoke this way at Royal Court when he brought Shakespeare down with him from Scotland to take up the new British crown in 1603. This is NOT English but British - the modern "English" can't pronounce it! Since then it has been butchered by television but the way it is spoken here is truer to the actual spelling and therefore much less ambiguous than the modern idiom we hear so much of on the media. For an explanation video please see www.youtube.com
