Ignite: Molly Wright Steenson - A Series of Tubes, EP 7
In the 1800s cities used pneumatic tubes to transfer physical documents. Of course with the internet we no longer need these long tunnels, but that doesn't mean that they aren't fun to learn about how these old systems are similar to the internet. Molly Wright Steenson gave a great talk about how these systems worked and what was state of the art in the 1800's. Get Ignite in iTunes: bit.ly

Large Pneumatic Cylinder with two input pressure
www.mekanizmalar.com Some manufacturing processes require use of large pneumatic cylinders. If the operation cycle of these cylinders are long, such as bonding of laminated materials, use of a single high pressure line is acceptable. However if the operation cycle is short, like an assemble operation, the use of a single air pressure for forward and retract stroke is not acceptable. This is because the air cylinder consumes ALMOST the same amount of pressurized air in retract stroke as the forward stroke. However the power need is confined to forward stroke, and the retract operation does not require significant power at all. To conserve the valuable pressurized air resources, it is advisable to use lower pressure air for retract operation as shown in this animation. Notice that to achieve this a high pressure air coming from pressure tank is divided into two line one of which is fed to the rod end of the air cylinder after passing through a pressure reducer. Also the connection of air lines to a five port four way valve arranged so that it allows two pressure line connection to one air cylinder as shown.

Teaching Pneumatic Technology with the ST270 Pneumatics Module from LJ Create.
Pneumatic systems are extensively used in industry, where factories are commonly plumbed with compressed air. This is because pneumatic systems can provide motive power in a cheaper, safer, more flexible, and more reliable way than a large number of electric motors and actuators. Pneumatics also has applications in dentistry, construction, mining, and other areas. The well written curriculum materials supplied with this module help students investigate the basic "building blocks" of modern pneumatics and how they are interconnected to form systems. The ready-made lessons, for both tutor and student provide a blended learning approach. This gives the opportunity for independent learning, team-work and group demonstrations to be carried out. Design tasks, including electro-pneumatics, are a key element in this module. The learning content is designed for flexible delivery from a PC, server system or internet connection. Its html format meets the requirements of the SCORM standard for access on a virtual learning platform. It includes continuous and summative assessment for automatically tracking and marking students' progress. Theory presentations in PowerPoint, enable tutors to introduce topics and cover key concepts. When used with a student response system, automatic tracking of the integrated questions, and instant feedback, helps engage and excite the students. This also saves valuable tutor time with automatic marking and reporting. Students begin their study of ...

KLUGE
Meet Nick Sambrato. He runs a print shop in Orlando, Florida called Mama's Sauce.
Nick isn't a very smart guy. At a time in history when the print industry is pouncing from one space-age technological advancement to the next, Nick has decided to take a giant leap backwards into the industrial revolution.
Meet the Kluge letterpress. An 2,000 pound, cast iron, electric powered monstrosity of vacillating rods, giant spinning wheels and pneumatic hoses. The Kluge is Nick's weapon of choice in his battle against the future.
So why does Nick use the Kluge? A clearly outdated, cumbersome and obsolete machine? The same reason any craftsman uses any tool: for the quality of the finished product. A letterpress offers a tangible, three-dimensional look and feel to the printed image that no other technology can replicate.
Let Nick take you on a trip back in time as he runs through the process of turning an ordinary piece of paper stock into work of art.

The Sun '40 Years of Page 3'
This film celebrates the 40th anniversary of Page 3 by paying homage to one of the best ads made in the last decade in a uniquely Sun way. Our challenge was to recreate the fantastic work for Old Spice on a more modest digital budget, so we had to think creatively about how we were to pull off the same number of in-camera tricks in a single shot.
We worked with Page 3 model Rosie Jones, who did a fantastic job of delivering a script while catching and grabbing various objects and magically seating herself on top of a sports car. We spent 3 days rehearsing with Rosie (although there was only so much we could do in an office!) before going on-set. The shoot was in a green screen studio with a physical bathroom set, a shiny red sports car and a moveable gangway.
We had a pneumatic grabber to release the beachball and a pair of mechanical coconuts which would open at the press of a button. These contained “tracking cages” which we then solved using Syntheyes to add in the tickets and beer bottles. The camera move was also solved using Syntheyes, with comping in AE and Cinema 4D and Maya for the 3D work.

PVE Pneumatic Vacuum Elevator
Gone are the days of science fiction when people traveled in transparent bubbles. Today is no longer a product of our imagination. There is a bubble that can carry you without cables, pulleys or pistons. It us our self-supporting vacuum elevator; a light & resistant structure built with aluminum & polycarbonate. Pneumatic Vacuum Elevators are easier to install, maintain & operate than traditional elevators. They are especially ideal for existing homes due to their compact design because excavating a pit 7 & hoistway are not required. Air pressure above & beneath the elevator cab are they key to transporting. Why choose a Pneumatic Vacuum Elevator? Sleek & Compact Design: 37" diameter that can be placed virtually anywhere with a 360 degree panoramic view. Flexibility & Speed: 30 ft./min. available in 2, 3 & 4 stops, up to 35 ft., installation is less that a week & can be relocated if needed. Safe: Due to the advanced safety features, the vacuum elevator cannot fall. also during a power outage, the vacuum elevator will automatically return to the bottom floor. Energy Efficient: Zero energy consumption during descent, low when ascending with 220 volt turbines. Exceptional Price & Value: No costly excavation, hatch or machine room to install; tax benefits, Increases the resale value to your existing home & can be move to a new one; Virtually no maintenance cost nor any lubrication required.
