The East India Company.mov
The East India Company was the worlds first multinational company, dominating world trade for centuries. Their merchants traded fabrics, spices, tea coffee and crafts, bought distant ports closer and help blend and introduce distant cultures. The company developed administrative systems, signed treaties, fought wars with kingdoms and set up an empire far larger than the small island from which it came.

Britain's global trade in the Great Days of Sail - John McAleer
Britain's history has been shaped by its relationship with the sea. The possibilities and profits offered by maritime trade were particularly important in defining the country's development as a global power in the Age of Sail. Richly illustrated with images and objects from the collection of the National Maritime Museum and beyond, this lecture explores how British overseas trade went hand in hand with Britain's global empire in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Britain's commercial success was built on complex and multifaceted foundations. Trade with colonies in the Atlantic Ocean, initially conducted through chartered companies, was increasingly financed, organised and operated by private merchants. Meanwhile, the East India Company, based in the City of London, jealously protected its monopoly on British trade east of the Cape of Good Hope. And all of this commercial activity relied on the protection offered by the Royal Navy. The systems of global connections and international trade created by these circumstances laid the basis for Britain's global empire and continue to affect our world today. [All images featured in this lecture are courtesy of the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich.] Thetranscript and downloadable versions of the lecture are available from the full conference's page on the Gresham College website: www.gresham.ac.uk Gresham College has been giving free public lectures since 1597. East India Company - The worlds most powerful trading empire
www.eic-game.com East India Company is a naval war strategy game based on the 18th century East India Companies. Players will attempt to build the worlds most powerful trading empire in a breathtaking cinematic environment. Offering both single and multiplayer modes, players will fight, manage and rule to build immense trading empire spanning from Europe to the Far East using a wide array of ship classes. The game will feature fierce naval battles and direct command of individual ships. In East India Company the innovative Direct Command mode during naval battles allows players to take direct control over a single ship, giving players previously unseen control over the ships actions during battle. Players are able to toggle between the more traditional RTS mode where you control multiple ships and the Direct Command mode where you take the command of an individual ship. In Direct Command mode the players can toggle through different views from 3rd person view behind the ship to a 1st person view that puts the player in the middle of the crew in action on ships deck, thus allowing better control over cannons & aiming and ship manoeuvring. The players experience the action firsthand as enemy fire flies overhead and the ship rocks in the turbulent seas. When taking the control of the flagship players can take advantage of the skills of the fleet commander. All fleets have their own unique fleet commanders with a set of active and passive skills. The passive skills are in ...

This Scene expresses- FEAR- noun: an emotion experienced in anticipation of some specific pain or danger (usually accompanied by a desire to flee or fight). noun: a feeling of anxiety and agitation caused by the presence or nearness of danger, evil, pain, etc.; timidity; dread; terror; fright; apprehension. Terrify not your soul with vain imaginary fears. By realizing that you are the one feeding the fire, you can start to take control of your fears. Panic is a vicious cycle that can be broken. When you start to have irrational fears you need to take action quick. Eleanor Roosevelt once said: "You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing, which you think you cannot do." We must stop running away from things that frighten us, face our fears head on, and do the thing we fear the most. Most of the time we'll find out that the "thing" was not that scary after all. Our imaginations had behaved like a super fertilizer and grown a grotesque monstrosity in our minds. Remember, our imaginations are incredibly powerful. They can work against us, creating horrible images that leave us paralyzed with fear and they can also work for us, building a world where everything we do is an adventure, a miracle. And the most amazing thing is that we hold the power to control our minds - we allow fear to dominate our lives or we choose to dominate fear. Those are our only two choices.

The Ship-boys of Bontekoe (De Scheepsjongens van Bontekoe) | vfx making-of (2007) | PLANET X FX
This reel is an abridged selection of the many visual effects PLANET X FX created for 'De Scheepsjongens van Bontekoe' ('The Ship-boy of Bontekoe').
During a 4 month period all the 3D and 2D components necessary to bring the 17th century East India Company ship to life were created. An entire 3D replica of the 'Nieuw Hoorn' formed the basis for many shots depicting the ship on open stormy seas practically impossible to shoot on a set.
With photo realism being the main goal, the ship was constructed from scratch using the original blueprints of the Batavia. Also the tiniest motions and behaviors of the entire rigging and sails were set up using special dynamic systems. The same goes for the turbulent swells on which some of the stormy scenes take place: a 3D sea was custom designed for this project.
Also in the field of 2D composting a significant contribution was made. Apart from processing the entire 3D share a significant effort went into matte-paintings, various removals, day for-night-shots and the adding of several elements to the 2D track.
A green screen shoot was especially set up for post production. In this shot several actors climbed in to a mock mast with rigging so that they could be superimposed on to the background in the 3D scenes featuring the ship. Thus further obscuring the boundaries between life-action and computer generated.
The press especially was extremely positive about the total look and visual effects in the movie:
'The special effects used to unleash a gigantic storm on the silver screen have an international allure'
--Sp!ts
'Reality has its boundaries, even though you don't notice it as a member of the audience. The storms that ravage the Batavia are beautiful just as the drowning scenes'
--De Telegraaf
'With the help of impressive visual effects the ship has to withstand cape storms, scurvy, corporal punishment and fires on its voyage to the east indies'
--FilmFocus.nl

Interview with Moti Goya - Author of the Musical Human Love
Human Love is a message, a movement of tolerance and equality between nations. Pop, Soul musical.
In the 17th century, a slave-ship of the East India Company left the African coast.
The boat sailed to the New World, with the slaves on board doomed to a sorrowful fate. Halfway through, a storm is raging and the ship sinks. The shipwrecked survivors, slaves and settlers, wake up on the beach of an uncharted island.
----------------------------------
