British SAS Documentary - HD Documentary
The
Special Air Service (
SAS) is an unit of the
British Army established in
1941 as a program, and also later on reconstituted as a corps in
1950. This special forces unit takes on a variety of parts including concealed reconnaissance, counter-terrorism, direct activity, and also human knowledge gathering.
The corps presently consists of
22 Special Air Service Regiment, the normal component, under the operational command of
United Kingdom Special Forces, as well as 21 (Musicians)
Unique Air Service Program and also 23 Unique Air Service Regiment, which are reserve units under the operational command of 1st
Knowledge,
Surveillance and Reconnaissance
Brigade.
The Unique Air Service traces its origins to 1941 as well as the 2nd War of the nations, as well as was changed as part of the Territorial
Military in
1947, called the
21st Unique Air Service Regiment (
Artists Rifles)
. 22 Unique Air Service Routine, part of the regular army, later gained fame and also recognition worldwide after efficiently assaulting the
Iranian Embassy in London and also saving hostages throughout the
1980 Iranian Consular office siege, raising the program from obscurity outside the military facility.
The Unique Air Service was an unit of the British Army during the
2nd World Battle, developed in July 1941 by
David Stirling as well as initially called "L"
Detachment, Unique Air
Solution Brigade-- the "L" designation and also Air Solution name being a tie-in to a
British disinformation campaign, trying to trick the
Axis right into believing there was a paratrooper regiment with various devices running in the area (the real SAS would 'confirm' to the
Center that the phony one existed). Due to
German resistance and adverse weather condition conditions, the goal was a disaster: 22 men, a 3rd of the device, were gotten rid of or recorded.
In September 1942 it was renamed
First SAS, consisting at that time of four British squadrons, one
Free French, one
Greek, and the
Folboat Section.
SAS patrol in
North Africa throughout
WW2.
In
January 1943,
Stirling was recorded in
Tunisia as well as
Paddy Mayne replaced him as leader. In
April 1943, the First SAS was reorganised into the Unique
Raiding Squadron under Mayne's command and the
Special Watercraft Squadron was positioned under the command of
George Jellicoe. The
Special Raiding Squadron fought in
Sicily as well as
Italy along with the
Second SAS, which had actually been formed in North Africa in 1943 partly by the renaming of the
Small Scale Raiding Force. The Unique
Boat Squadron fought in the
Aegean Islands as well as
Dodecanese until completion of the war. In
1944 the SAS Brigade was formed from the British 1st as well as 2nd SAS, the
French 3rd and
Fourth SAS as well as the
Belgian 5th SAS. It was charged with parachute uses behind the
German lines in
France and accomplished procedures assisting the
Allied breakthrough via
Belgium, the
Netherlands (Use
Pegasus), as well as eventually into
Germany (
Operation Archway). As a result of
Hitler's releasing of the
Commando Order 18 October 1942, the participants of the system faced the added threat that they would certainly be immediately executed if ever caught by the
Germans. In July 1944, following
Operation Bulbasket, 34 caught SAS commandos were summarily implemented by the Germans. In
October 1944, in the results of
Operation Loyton 31 caught SAS commandos were summarily carried out by the Germans.
