Chuck Owston - Славься, Русь! (Slav'sia Rus!)
As one of the Russian folk metal band, Arkona's oldest fans, Chuck worked up this acoustic guitar arrangement of his favorite Arkona song. It is played in the key of F#. The guitar is tuned to an E modal tuning (EBEEBE), capoed on the 2nd fret. According the recent geneological research by his professor brother, Dr. James Owston of Mountain State University, Chuck recently found out that his 35th great grandfather was Yaroslav I, Grand Prince of Kiev,

Historical maps and facts abouth Kievan Rus' - Kyivan Rus' - Ukraine! Relations to Sweden and Vikings, Sarmatian origin of name Rus' used long time only by Ukrainians etc. ... Music: Requiem For A Dream - Full Theme Song. The first state to arise among the Eastern Slavs. It took its name from the city of Kyiv, the seat of the grand prince from about 880 until the beginning of the 13th century. At its zenith, it covered a territory stretching from the Carpathian Mountains to the Volga River, and from the Black Sea to the Baltic Sea. The state's rapid rise and development was based on its advantageous location at the intersection of major north-south and east-west land and water trade routes with access to two major seas, and favorable local conditions for the development of agriculture. In the end, however, the state's great size led to the development of centrifugal tendencies and local interests that limited its political and social cohesion. This, and its proximity to the Asian steppes, which left it vulnerable to invasions of nomadic hordes, eventually contributed to the decline of Kyivan Rus'. In the 8th century, the territory of Kyivan Rus' was inhabited by a number of tribes who shared a common proto-Slavic language, pagan beliefs, and life-style. The ancestors of the Ukrainians included the Polianians, Siverianians, Derevlianians, Dulibians, White Croatians, Ulychians, and Tivertsians. Quantz - II Arioso from Concerto for Flute & Orchestra in D Major
Performed here by The New Bach Collegium Musicum Leipzig with Eckart Haupt on the Flute and Max Pommer at the baton. Johann Joachim Quantz (01/30/1697 - 07/12/1773), is, as with many of his excessively talented Baroque counterparts (the likes of Telemman or Biber, both of whom I love, or Vivaldi, Bach or Handel, with whom I am not quite so enamored), lost among the plethora of composers that are oft forgotten too easily or lost too quickly... At any rate, Quantz's output was varied and extensive, his grasp of musical instruments, concepts of music theory and his general God-given gift for excellence in and understanding of all things music, was not wasted. The young Quantz was a talented violinst (taking after his uncle who raised him when a young Johann's father died) and oboist. The flute later caught Quantz' attention and he became a virtuoso whilst playing for Frederick Augustus II of Poland (King of Poland, Grand Duke of Lithuania, Ruthenia, Prussia, Masovia, Samogitia, Kiev, Volhynia, Podolia, Podlaskie, Livonia, Smolensk, Severia, Chernihiv, and hereditary Duke of Saxony and Prince-elector) making a name for himself as the finest flautist in all of Europe, touring France and England and eventually becoming a teacher, flute maker and court composer to Frederick II of Prussia (Frederick the Great). Quantz was an innovative flute maker and modified the instrument greatly, making changes such as adding keys to the instrument to help with intonation. Quantz was always ...

HalynaMyroslava"Traces of Alphabets"/"Сліди від азбук"
Thanks to Petro Ratensky or Ratnensky,Петро Ратенський (Ратненський),the famous icon painter and Metropolitan of Kyiv and all Rus. In 1260 Petro (Petr, Peter) was born in the village Ratne, Volhyn or Volhynia (Galicia-Volhynia,West Ukraine) in the family of pious Fedir and Evpraksia. But Historian VR Vavryk suggests that Peter was born in the village Verhrati Rava-Ruska District (Lviv region) during the reign of Danylo Halytsky and Profesor Holubynsky suggests that Metropolitan Peter could be born in wealthy parents in Lviv or Belhz. In 1272 Peter entered the monastery near Belz (Lviv Region). Later, with the blessing of his abbot, he departed in the cozy woods and began to create his monastery - the church of St. Saviour. So St. Peter became abbot of Ratensky (Novodvorsky) monastery (near the modern village Dvirtsi, the river Rata). Peter painted icons and gave them as a gift. After the death of Metropolitan of Kyiv and All Rus Maxim in 1305 Mikhail Yaroslavich, Grand Prince of Tver, wanted to put his candidate on the metropolitan department who dared lie to gain a rank . That was a violation of the old traditions, because since the adoption of Christianity in Kyivan Rus there was only one Ruthenian Metropolis in Kyiv. Then Galician prince took steps to establish a single metropolis in Galicia or Halychyna. He sent Abbot Peter to Athanasius Patriarch of Constantinople. Patriarch put him on Metropolitan, but not in Galician,in order to avoid provocation and strife, but ...
