John the Baptist (Ancient Greek: Ἰωάννης ὁ βαπτιστής, Ioannēs ho baptistēs or Ἰωάννης ὁ βαπτίζων, Ioannēs ho baptizōn, known as the prophet Yahya in the Qur'an ) was a Jewish itinerant preacher in the early first century AD and is revered as a major religious figure along with Christianity, also in Islam, the Bahá'í Faith, and Mandaeism. He is called a prophet by all of these traditions, and honoured as a saint in many Christian traditions.
John used baptism as the central sacrament of his messianic movement. Most scholars agree that John baptized Jesus. Scholars generally believe Jesus was a follower or disciple of John and several New Testament accounts report that some of Jesus' early followers had previously been followers of John. John the Baptist is also mentioned by the Jewish historian Josephus. Some scholars maintain that John was influenced by the semi-ascetic Essenes, who expected an apocalypse and practiced rituals corresponding strongly with baptism, although no direct evidence substantiates this.
Matthew 11 is the eleventh chapter in the Gospel of Matthew in the New Testament section of the Christian Bible. It continues the narrative about Jesus' ministry in Galileia and can be divided into the following subsections:
John is a common English name and surname:
John may also refer to:
Jesus (/ˈdʒiːzəs/; Greek: Ἰησοῦς Iesous; 7–2 BC to AD 30–33), also referred to as Jesus of Nazareth or Jesus Christ, is the central figure of Christianity, whom the teachings of most Christian denominations hold to be the Son of God. Christians believe Jesus is the awaited Messiah (or Christ, the Anointed One) of the Old Testament.
Virtually all modern scholars of antiquity agree that Jesus existed historically, and historians consider the Synoptic Gospels (Matthew, Mark and Luke) to be the best sources for investigating the historical Jesus. Most scholars agree that Jesus was a Galilean, Jewish rabbi who preached his message orally, was baptized by John the Baptist, and was crucified by the order of the Roman Prefect Pontius Pilate. In the current mainstream view, Jesus was an apocalyptic preacher and the founder of a renewal movement within Judaism, although some prominent scholars argue that he was not apocalyptic. After Jesus' death, his followers believed he was resurrected, and the community they formed eventually became the Christian church. The widely used calendar era, abbreviated as "AD" from the Latin "Anno Domini" ("in the year of our Lord") or sometimes as "CE", is based on the birth of Jesus. His birth is celebrated annually on December 25 as a holiday known as Christmas.
http://TheNarrowPath.com | Jesus explains that his marvelous works clearly show he is the Messiah. John the Baptist may have doubted because the Jewish teaching was that the Messiah would rule as king of Israel and crush nation's enemies. They didn't realize that the Messiah's kingdom is not of this world and Jesus reigns by conquering souls and changing people's hearts all over the world. Nonetheless, he clearly fulfilled Messianic prophecies. Jesus acclaims John the Baptist; rebukes unbelievers; and declares His burden is light. Matthew 11:1-30 1 And it came to pass, when Jesus had made an end of commanding his twelve disciples, he departed thence to teach and to preach in their cities. 2 Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples, 3And said unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another? 4 Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see: 5 The blind receive their sight , and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them. 6 And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me. 7 And as they departed, Jesus began to say unto the mul...

The Story Of John The Baptist John's mother, Elizabeth, was a relative of Mary, the mother of Jesus. The two women were pregnant at the same time. The Bible says in Luke 1:41, when the two expectant mothers met, the baby leaped within Elizabeth's womb as she was filled with the Holy Spirit. The angel Gabriel had already foretold the miraculous birth and prophetic ministry of John the Baptist to his father Zechariah. The news was a joyous answer to prayer for the previously barren Elizabeth. John was to become the God-ordained messenger proclaiming the arrival of the Messiah, Jesus Christ. The remarkable ministry of John the Baptist included the Baptism of Jesus in the Jordan River. John did not lack boldness as he challenged even Herod to repent of his sins. In approximately 29 AD, Herod...

Song # 968 from Our Gospel In Song Collection by Col Johnston. After Jesus had finished instructing His twelve disciples, He went to teach in the towns of Galilee (Matthew 11:1). When John the Baptist heard in prison what Christ was doing, he sent his disciples to ask Jesus (Matthew 11:2), "Are you the one who was to come, or should we expect someone else?" (Matthew 11:3). Jesus said to John's disciples "Go back and report to John what you hear and see". (Matthew 11:4). "The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is preached to the poor" (Matthew 11:5). "Blessed is the man who does not fall away on account of me" (Matthew 11:6). As John's disciples were leaving, Jesus began to speak to the crowd about John...

Often times what we see and perceive are completely different things. While in prison, John the Baptist sent a couple disciples to Jesus with a question, “Are you the one who is coming, or should we be looking for another?” Jesus, rather than answering the question directly, performs several miracles and then sends the disciples back to John saying, “Tell John what you see.” This is a challenge to us as well. What do we see when we look at the Bible and the claims of Jesus? What do we see when we look at the world around us? We might be looking at the same exact pieces of evidence as others, but coming to completely different conclusions. 1) Subscribe to the channel 2) Give a thumbs up on the video 3) Share the video and channel with others 4) Leave your comments and questions below 5)...
"IT IS FINISHED".... Said The Lord Jesus. That ..................was JUST .... The Beginning ~~~ What did Jesus mean when He said, 'It is finished ? PLEASE NOTE I AM NOT MIKE,AND IN COMMENTS YOU WON'T BE TALKING TO MIKE. Please look for him in the contacts section of The Council Of Time.com ____ “It is finished.” Found only in the Gospel of John, the Greek word translated “it is finished” is tetelestai, an accounting term that means “paid in full.” When Jesus uttered those words, He was declaring the debt owed to His Father was wiped away completely and forever. Not that Jesus wiped away any debt that He owed to the Father; rather, Jesus eliminated the debt owed by mankind—the debt of sin. Just prior to His arrest by the Romans, Jesus prayed His last public prayer, asking the Father...
The Gospel According to Mark, the second book of the New Testament, is one of the four canonical gospels and the three synoptic gospels. It tells of the ministry of Jesus from his baptism by John the Baptist to his death and burial and the discovery of the empty tomb – there is no genealogy or birth narrative, nor, in the original ending at chapter 16, any post-resurrection appearances. It portrays Jesus as a heroic man of action, an exorcist, healer and miracle worker. Jesus is also the Son of God, but he keeps his identity secret, concealing it in parables so that even the disciples fail to understand. All this is in keeping with prophecy, which foretold the fate of the messiah as Suffering Servant.[1] The gospel ends, in its original version, with the discovery of the empty tomb, a prom...
In this, the second Sunday of Advent, we talk about preparing for the coming of Jesus. We begin by reading in the Book of Mark. The Book of Mark is most likely the oldest and is the shortest of all the books which make up the Gospels in the Bible. The first chapter and the first few verses proclaim the coming of Jesus. Mark even quotes from the Old Testament Book of Isaiah when God told the Jews he was sending a messenger to prepare the way of the Lord. This messenger, we find out is John the Baptist. When we first read about John the Baptist in the Book of Mark, he appears in the wilderness proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. This was a new idea because not all Jews were baptized. In those days, baptism was reserved for new converts to the Jewish faith. In add...

BEHOLD OUR GOD! Matthew 17 We will become like what we behold. "And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit." 2 Corinthians 3:18 Behold the divine glory of the Son. Moses (the Law) had reflected divine glory. Elijah (the Prophets) had proclaimed divine glory. Jesus (the fulfillment of the Law and the Prophets) now reveals divine glory. He radiates the splendor of God. He unveils the presence of God. He embodies the pleasure of God. He speaks the Word of God. He is the prophet promised by Moses. The Father used Moses to deliver his people from slavery. The Father sent Jesus to deliver his people from sin. He is the messen...
