Wodaabe preparing for their dance (Niger)
Thanks to Fada, Sani and Amelie Peryea The Wodaabe (or Bororo) are a small subgroup of the Fulani ethnic group. They are traditionally nomadic cattle-herders and traders in the Sahel, with migrations stretching from southern Niger, through northern Nigeria, northeastern Cameroon, and the western region of the Central African Republic. The number of Wodaabe was estimated in 1983 to be 45000.[3] They are known for their beauty (both men and women), elaborate attire and rich cultural ceremonies. The Wodaabe speak the Fula language and don't use a written language. In the Fula language, woɗa means "taboo", and Woɗaaɓe means "people of the taboo". "Wodaabe" is an Anglicisation of Woɗaaɓe. This is sometimes translated as "those who respect taboos", a reference to the Wodaabe isolation from broader Fulbe culture, and their contention that they retain "older" traditions than their Fulbe neighbors. In contrast, other Fulbe as well as other ethnic groups sometimes refer to the Wodaabe as "Bororo", a sometimes pejorative name, translated into English as "Cattle Fulani", and meaning "those who dwell in cattle camps".By the 17th century, the Fula people across West Africa were among the first ethnic groups to embrace Islam, were often leaders of those forces which spread Islam, and have been traditionally proud of the urban, literate, and pious life with which this has been related. Both Wodaabe and other Fulbe see in the Wodaabe the echos of an earlier pastoralist way of life, of ...

REVIEW MoBoYM
by Aldona Kopkiewicz
Malga Kubiak calls Mask of Beauty on Yukio Mishima 'trash kabuki' yet this isn't enough to describe the specifics of this film. Destruction possesses not only certain aesthetics, but also the director's entire imagination. Her fascination of Mishima's novels, of his literal pictures and his erotic phantasm become the screen by which Kubiak picks into the world, and which she wants to assign to as reality as well. There is no way to tell the difference between either. Something struggles in the imagination and the images put into motion by his texts; something that the literature remixes with the life of the actors and the banality of life itself, proving the latter to be incomplete, unavoidable and indispensable. The bulk of the text is just a used tissue, a dirty rag that almost can't resist the pressure of living. Yet it's still the only pulp which this life plots, especially in its most hidden unlawful deeds. The movie connects these very parts with thin seams and ugly scars and it is so well put together that you can't pull it apart.
SWEDISH/Svensk t.

Malga Kubiak nazywa „Mask of Beauty on Yukio Mishima” „trash kabuki”, ale to wciąż za mało, by określić specyfikę tego filmu.

Awa Toure Leads a Discussion on Sexual Harassment
Back in the summer of 2011, Kounkane cluster volunteers put together an incredibly successful event for area high-school girls. Among the topics discussed was reproductive health, family planning, and sexual assault and rape. Parents were invited for a group discussion at the end. It was amazing!
Awa Toure is the lead Cross-Cultural trainer and one of the reasons why Peace Corps Senegal is considered the strongest PC operation in Africa by some.
In this video she speaks a mixture of French and the Pulaar Fulakunda (Fula) language to high-school aged girls from Kounkane, Region of Kolda, Senegal. Translation coming soon.
