Australia
Australia (
/əˈstreɪljə/), officially the Commonwealth of Australia, is a country in the Southern Hemisphere comprising the mainland of the Australian continent as well as the island of Tasmania and numerous smaller islands in the Indian and Pacific Oceans. It is the world's sixth-largest country by total area. Neighbouring countries include Indonesia, East Timor and Papua New Guinea to the north; the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and New Caledonia to the north-east; and New Zealand to the south-east.
For at least 40,000 years before European settlement in the late 18th century, Australia was inhabited by indigenous Australians, who belonged to one or more of roughly 250 language groups. After discovery by Dutch explorers in 1606, Australia's eastern half was claimed by Great Britain in 1770 and settled through penal transportation to the colony of New South Wales from 26 January 1788. The population grew steadily in subsequent decades; the continent was explored and an additional five self-governing Crown Colonies were established.

Long known as a suburb or satellite city of Seattle, it is now categorized as an edge city or a boomburb with a population of 122,363 at the 2010 census.
Prior to the economic downturn of 2008, downtown Bellevue was undergoing rapid change, with many high rise projects under construction. It is currently the second largest city center in Washington state with over 35,000 employees and 5,000 residents. Based on per capita income, Bellevue is the 6th wealthiest of 522 communities in the state of Washington. In 2008, Bellevue was named number 1 in CNNMoney's list of the best places to live and launch a business. More recently, Bellevue was ranked as the 4th best place to live in America. The name "Bellevue" is French for "beautiful view".
Bellevue was founded in 1869 by William Meydenbauer and was officially incorporated on March 21, 1953. Prior to the opening of the Lake Washington Floating Bridge in 1940, Bellevue was a rural area with little development. Although it was small, developers were pushing to change that; in the 1920s, James S. Ditty predicted that it would become a city with a population of 200,000. He envisioned plans that included the bridging of Lake Washington and an area filled with golf courses and airports. His map with these visions was published in 1928.

Iowa 80
Iowa 80 is the world's largest truck stop, located along Interstate 80 off exit 284 in Walcott, Iowa. Set on a 220-acre (89 ha) plot of land (four times larger than an average truckstop) -- 75 acres (30 ha) of which are currently developed—the site receives 5,000 visitors daily, and features a 67,000 sq ft (6,200 m2) main building, parking for 800 trucks, and 15 fuel pumps. Four-hundred and fifty employees staff the megaplex.
Iowa 80 is currently affiliated with the TravelCenters of America chain.
Bill Moon, a regional manager for Standard Oil, purchased the land and built the original truckstop in 1964 along the emerging I-80, the 3,000-mile (4,800 km) highway which would directly connect San Francisco with New York. "As they were building I-80, my father was responsible for finding land and building truck stops for Standard," says his daughter Delia Meier. Initially a small white enamel building surrounded by cornfields, it housed a modest truckers store, a one lube bay and a restaurant. Bill Moon took direct control in September 1965, and eventually purchased the site from the corporation in 1984. In 1992, the year of Moon's death, it became a Travelcenter of America franchise, though the facility is still owned and operated by the Moon family. In addition, the Iowa 80 Group also owns the Joplin (MO) Petro on Interstate 44, Oak Grove (MO) 70 off Interstate 70 just outside of Kansas City, and Kenley (NC) 95 off of Interstate 95.

In Pre-Columbian Mexico many cultures matured into advanced civilizations such as the Olmec, the Toltec, the Teotihuacan, the Zapotec, the Maya and the Aztec before the first contact with Europeans. In 1521, Spain conquered and colonized the territory from its base in México-Tenochtitlan, which was administered as the Viceroyalty of New Spain. This territory would eventually become Mexico as the colony's independence was recognized in 1821. The post-independence period was characterized by economic instability, the Mexican-American War and territorial cession to the United States, a civil war, two empires and a domestic dictatorship. The latter led to the Mexican Revolution in 1910, which culminated with the promulgation of the 1917 Constitution and the emergence of the country's current political system. Elections held in July 2000 marked the first time that an opposition party won the presidency from the Institutional Revolutionary Party.

Renton, Washington
Renton is in King County, Washington, United States. Situated 11 miles (21 km) southeast of Seattle, Washington, Renton straddles the southeast shore of Lake Washington. Founded in the 1860s, Renton became a supply town for the Newcastle coal fields. The city is now a center of manufacturing and technology companies, such as Boeing, Paccar, and several dot-com companies. The town of Renton was founded as a farming site by Erasmus M. Smithers who discovered coal there and brought in Charles D. Shattuck as coal mine operator.
Renton was incorporated as a city in 1901 (September 6) when coal mining and timber processing were the most important economic industries in the area. The town was prone to flooding from the Cedar and Black Rivers. In 1916 the completion of the Lake Washington Ship Canal lowered the surface of Lake Washington several feet which consequently eliminated drainage of Lake Washington through the Black River. The Cedar River was then diverted to drain into Lake Washington instead of the Black River. The culmination of these actions reduced the threat of annual flooding.

SeaTac, Washington
SeaTac ( /ˈsiːtæk/) is an American city in southern King County, Washington, and an outlying suburb of Seattle, Washington. Incorporated in February 1990, the City of SeaTac is ten square miles in area and has a population of 26,909 according to the 2010 census. The City boundaries surround the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, (approximately three square miles in area) which is owned and operated by the Port of Seattle. The city includes the communities of Angle Lake, Bow Lake, McMicken, and Riverton, which were established before the city's incorporation.
Residents of what is now SeaTac voted for incorporation in 1989. The city incorporated in February 1990. SeaTac's name is from Seattle and Tacoma.

Seatac is governed by a city council which consists of seven elected councilpersons.
The City of SeaTac has contracted with the King County Sheriff's Office since incorporation in 1990. Deputies assigned to SeaTac wear city uniforms and drive patrol cars marked with the city logo. There are currently 51 patrol officers, detectives, and support staff assigned full time to the city.

Dave Nemo
Dave Nemo is an American radio personality, currently hosting a show on the Road Dog channel 171 on Sirius-XM Satellite Radio. Nemo's show is geared toward entertainment and news favored by truck drivers.
Before his current stint with XM, Nemo was best known as the host of The Road Gang, the overnight truckers' show broadcast for many years from WWL (AM) Radio in New Orleans and heard throughout most of the country through its clear channel signal. Nemo was originally the show's weekend and fill-in host behind Charlie Douglas, then took over the top spot on the show when Douglas left. Big John Parker then took Nemo's spot as weekend host.
Nemo joined Road Dog (then Open Road) at its inception. His show is currently aired daily from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. EST. Ironically, two of his biggest overnight competitors during his Road Gang days, Bill Mack and Dale "The Truckin' Bozo" Sommers, are now colleagues on the channel.
Nemo's show is broadcast from studios in Nashville, where guests from the country music industry often stop by.

Frederick W. Smith
Frederick Wallace Smith (born August 11, 1944), or Fred Smith, is the founder, chairman, president, and CEO of FedEx, originally known as Federal Express, the first overnight express delivery company in the world, and the largest in the United States. The company is headquartered in Memphis, Tennessee.
Smith was born in Marks, Mississippi, the son of James Frederick Smith — who (before age 20) dropped his first name, expressing a preference to be known as Fred or Frederick — the founder of the Toddle House restaurant chain and the Smith Motor Coach Company (renamed the Dixie Greyhound Lines after The Greyhound Corporation bought a controlling interest in 1931). Fred Smith, the father, died while Smith the son was only 4, and the boy was raised by his mother and uncles.
Smith had a great interest in flying, and became an amateur pilot as a teen. He attended elementary school at Presbyterian Day School and high school at Memphis University School.
In 1962, Smith entered Yale University. While attending Yale, he wrote a paper for an economics class, outlining overnight delivery service in a computer information age. Folklore suggests that he received a C for this paper, although in a later interview he claims that he told a reporter, "I don't know what grade, probably made my usual C", while other tales suggest that his professor told him that, in order for him to get a C, the idea had to be feasible. The paper became the idea of FedEx (for years, the sample package displayed in the company's print advertisements featured a return address at Yale). Smith became a member and eventually the President of the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity and the secret society Skull and Bones. He received his Bachelor's degree in economics in 1966. In his college years, he was a friend and DKE fraternity brother of George W. Bush. Smith was also friends with John Kerry and shared an enthusiasm for aviation with Kerry and was a flying partner with him.

Jimmy Hoffa
James Riddle "Jimmy" Hoffa (born February 14, 1913 – disappeared July 30, 1975, declared legally dead July 30, 1982) was an American labor union leader.
Hoffa was involved with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters union as an organizer from 1932 to 1975. He served as the union's General President from 1958 to 1971. He secured the first national agreement for teamsters' rates in 1964, and played a major role in the growth and development of the union, which eventually became the largest single union in the United States, with over 1.5 million members during his terms as its leader.
Hoffa, who had been convicted of jury tampering, attempted bribery, and fraud in 1964, was imprisoned in 1967, sentenced to 13 years, after exhausting the appeal process. It was not until mid-1971 that he officially resigned the Teamsters' presidency, an action that was part of a pardon agreement with U.S. president Richard Nixon, in order to facilitate his release later that year. Nixon blocked Hoffa from union activities until 1980 (which would have been the end of his prison term, had he served the full sentence). Hoffa attempted to overturn this order and to regain support.

Johnnie Bryan Hunt
Johnnie Bryan Hunt, Sr. (February 28, 1927 – December 7, 2006), better known as J. B. Hunt, was an American entrepreneur who founded J.B. Hunt Transport Services, the largest publicly owned trucking company in the USA. His company is based in Lowell, Arkansas.
Hunt was born in Heber Springs, Arkansas. Growing up during the great depression put a large strain on him.
His first job was working for his uncle in his sawmill so that the family could survive. After a brief time in the US Army, Hunt spent the 1950s as a lumber salesman, auctioneer, and truck driver before starting a rice hulls business with his wife Johnelle in 1961. Unfortunately his first attempt at the trucking business was not a success. He lost roughly $19,000. He returned to the trucking industry in 1969, with five tractors and seven trailers.
Hunt was known throughout his life for his generosity, and was famous for carrying around a money clip containing $100 bills, which he would hand out to people he felt could use the money.

Kelly Reno
Kelly Reno, born (June 19, 1966) to cattle ranchers in Pueblo, Colorado is a former juvenile actor who was cast at age 13 in the role of Alec Ramsey, the young boy who is marooned on a deserted island along with a horse, in The Black Stallion (based on the novel by Walter Farley).
Reno also appeared in the 1983 film adaptation of The Black Stallion Returns, alongside Vincent Spano. His acting career was cut short when the pick-up truck he was driving was hit by a semi-truck. He had severe injuries and the long recovery time put an end to his acting career.
After 20 years as a cattle rancher, Kelly Reno became a semi-truck driver himself. He lives in Colorado with his third wife and her daughter.

Larry Walters
Lawrence Richard Walters, nicknamed "Lawnchair Larry" or the "Lawn Chair Pilot", (April 19, 1949 – October 6, 1993) was an American truck driver who took flight on July 2, 1982, in a homemade airship. Dubbed Inspiration I, the "flying machine" consisted of an ordinary patio chair with 45 helium-filled weather balloons attached to it. Walters rose to an altitude of over 15,000 feet (4,600 m) and floated from his point of origin in San Pedro, California, into controlled airspace near Los Angeles International Airport. His flight was widely reported in many newspapers.
Walters had always dreamed of flying, but was unable to become a pilot in the United States Air Force because of his poor eyesight. Walters had first thought of using weather balloons to fly at age 13 and 14, after seeing them hanging from the ceiling of a military surplus store. Twenty years later he decided to do so. His intention was to attach a few helium-filled weather balloons to his lawnchair, cut the anchor, and then float above his backyard at a height of about 30 feet (9.1 m) for several hours. He planned to use a pellet gun to burst balloons to float gently to the ground.

Rafn Company has recently completed a renovation of the Eames (now Paccar) IMAX theater at the Pacific Science Center in Seattle. The Paccar IMAX Theater renovation is a complete replacement of the over 30 year old IMAX Theater housed inside of the even older 1962 World Fair Cyclorama, which was part of the United States Science Exhibit. Now completed it is a brand new 325 seat theater with the latest IMAX 3D digital projection technology, as well as providing accommodation for use as a lecture and presentation auditorium. It is also unique in being one of the first IMAX theaters to utilize "Projector Transport Units" to allow changeover between the 3D IMAX digital projectors and the salvaged IMAX film projector. The Paccar IMAX presented more than a few design challenges for NBBJ the architect and Sonics the acoustical consultant. The Pacific Science Center structures are landmarked, including the Cyclorama. The inside of the Cyclorama is shaped like a flattened, truncated cone - entirely the wrong shape for meeting the stringent IMAX acoustic performance requirements; and because of its landmark status, the Cyclorama could not be touched or modified. Acoustical issues were solved by a combination of treatments, the most striking being the array of hanging fabric covered fins encircling the audience, seemingly floating in space. Other treatments include insulated fabric stretch wall, a large sound absorbing wall behind the screen, and black duct liner on the ceiling. The ...

Based in Bellevue, Washington, in the Seattle Metropolitan area. It was founded in 1905 by William Pigott, Sr., as the Seattle Car Manufacturing Company. Its original business was the production of railway and logging equipment. Upon a subsequent merger with a Portland, Oregon, firm, Twohy Brothers, Seattle Car Manufacturing Company became the Pacific Car and Foundry Company. In 1924, the founder, William Pigott sold a controlling interest in the company to American Car and Foundry Company. However, his son, Paul Pigott reacquired a significant interest in the company from American Car and Foundry Company in 1934.[4]
In World War II[link]
During the Second World War, it was involved in war production, including Sherman tanks for the U.S. Army.[5] Other notable vehicles produced include the M25 Tank Transporter, known as the Dragon Wagon, and the T28 Super Heavy Tank.
Post war[link]
In 1945, Pacific Car and Foundry purchased Seattle's Kenworth Motor Truck Company. In 1958, they purchased Peterbilt Motors Company and the Dart Truck Company. In 1972 the corporate name officially changed to PACCAR Inc, and the Pacific Car and Foundry Company became a subsidiary division.
In 1981, PACCAR acquired Foden Trucks, a British manufacturer. Fifteen years later, in 1996, they acquired Netherlands-based DAF Trucks, which was in financial difficulties at the time.[citation needed] Also, in 1998 PACCAR acquired UK-based Leyland Trucks for its light and medium truck (6 to 44 metric tons) design and manufacture capability.
With its Peterbilt, Kenworth, and DAF nameplates, Paccar ranks second in production numbers in the United States and third in production numbers globally in "big rig" truck production; behind Daimler AG in the US market. Other Major heavy-truck competitors include Navistar International and AB Volvo.[citation needed]
