St. Martin's Press is a book publisher headquartered in the Flatiron Building in New York City. Currently, St. Martin's Press is one of the United States' largest publishers,^{[citation needed]} bringing to the public some 700 titles a year under eight imprints, which include St. Martin's Press (mainstream and bestseller books), St. Martin's Griffin (mainstream paperback books, including science fiction and romance), Minotaur (mystery, suspense, and thrillers), Picador (specialty books), Thomas Dunne Books (suspense and mainstream), and Truman Talley Books (business and speciality books). St. Martin's Press's current editor in chief is George Witte.

Macmillan Publishers of the United Kingdom founded St. Martin's in 1952 and named it for St. Martin's Lane in London, where associated press Macmillan Publishers was headquartered. It was privately held until the late 1990s when it was sold to Holtzbrinck Publishers, LLC, a group of publishing companies held by Verlagsgruppe Georg von Holtzbrinck, a family-owned publishing concern based in Stuttgart, Germany, which still owns St. Martin's as well as other U.S. publishers, including Farrar, Straus and Giroux (primarily a publisher of literary fiction), Holt Publishers (literary non-fiction), and Tor-Forge Books (science fiction, fantasy, and thrillers).

Recognized for the breadth of its list, St. Martin's publishes such authors as Sherrilyn Kenyon, M. K. Asante, Charlotte Bingham, John Bingham, Dan Brown, Barbara Taylor Bradford, Ken Bruen, Augusten Burroughs, Stephen J. Its textbook division, Bedford-St. Martin's, was founded in 1981. In 1984, St. Martin's became the first major trade-book publisher to release its hardcover books by its in-house mass-market paperback company,^{[citation needed]} St. Martin's Mass Market Paperback Co., Inc., founded by current President and Publisher Sally Richardson under the stewardship of then-President Thomas McCormack (with the assistance of entertainment consultant Maura E. Lynch).

Robert John Raven is an Australian arachnologist, being the Head of Terrestrial Biodiversity and the Senior Curator (Arachnida) at the Queensland Museum. Dr Raven has described many species of spider in Australia and elsewhere, and is spider bite consultant to the Royal Brisbane Hospital.

Dickson Despommier at Pop!Tech 2008

Dickson D. Despommier is a microbiologist, ecologist and Professor of Public Health in Environmental Health Sciences at Columbia University. He conducts research on intracellular parasitism and teaches courses on Parasitic Diseases, Medical Ecology and Ecology. In recent years, Despommier has received considerable media coverage for his ideas on vertical farming.^[1][2] He developed his concept of vertical farming with graduate students in a medical ecology class in 1999.

Despommier is also co-host of two popular podcasts along with Vincent Racaniello, namely TWIV (This Week in Virology) and TWIP (This Week in Parasitism).

Barbara Taylor Bradford OBE (born 10 May 1933) is a best-selling English novelist. Her debut novel, A Woman of Substance, was published in 1979 and has sold over 32 million copies worldwide.^[1] To date, she has written 27 novels -- all bestsellers on both sides of the Atlantic. Her 27th, Letter From A Stranger was released in the UK in September, 2011. It will be published in North America in April, 2012. ^[2]

Bradford was born in Leeds, Yorkshire as the only child of Freda and Winston Taylor. She grew up in the Leeds suburb of Upper Armley and after Christ Church, C of E School (where she was in the same class as Alan Bennett) and Northcote School for Girls, she worked in the typing pool at the Yorkshire Evening Post before going into journalism. By the age of twenty she was the fashion editor of Woman's Own Magazine and an editor and columnist on Fleet Street for the London Evening News.

Her first novel, A Woman of Substance, became an enduring best-seller and according to Reuters, it ranks as one of the top-ten best-selling novels of all time.^[3] A Woman Of Substance has been followed by 26 others – all best-sellers on both sides of the Atlantic. Bradford's books have sold more than 88 million copies worldwide in more than 90 countries and 40 languages. Ten of her books have been made into television mini-series and television movies, produced by her husband, Robert Bradford.^{[citation needed]}

Currently, one of the richest living authors, Bradford's personal wealth has exceeded £145 million, making her one of the wealthiest women in the UK. The 2009 Sunday Times Rich List estimated her wealth at around £166 million, making her the 31st wealthiest woman in Britain.^{[citation needed]}

It has been reported^[where?] that she is working on creating a new soap opera for the U.S. market with longtime soap writer Millee Taggart.^{[citation needed]}

Bradford lives in New York City with television producer Robert Bradford, her husband since 1963.

In 1999, Bradford became the first living female author to be featured on a postage stamp, when she was honoured on legal tender by the nations of St. Vincent and Grenada. In 2002, she was again recognised with a postage stamp by the British Isle of Man. In April 2003, Mrs. Bradford was inducted into the Writers Hall of Fame of America. She was awarded an OBE by Queen Elizabeth II in the Queen's 2007 Birthday Honours list for her contributions to literature.

Bradford is a member of the James Madison Council of the Library of Congress. She is heavily involved in a variety of charity projects around the world including Literacy Partners, the Police Athletic League of New York City (PAL); PACT Parents and Abducted Children Together US and UK Chapters; and The New York Pops Orchestra.

Barbara Taylor is a Canadian-born British-based historian and historical author specialising in Enlightenment history, gender studies, and the history of subjectivity. She is Professor of Modern History at the University of East London, England. ^[1]

She wrote a biography of Mary Wollstonecraft (1759-1797), the early English feminist and republican, and continues to speak on her life, for example in 2009 at Newington Green Unitarian Church as part of the 250th anniversary celebrations of Wollstonecraft's birth.
