Himalayan Viagra - Nepal
March 2006 It's the world's most rare and expensive herb -- a mysterious aphrodisiac which only grows on the head of caterpillars in Himalayas. But trade in yarchagumba is funding the Maoist uprising It's the world's most rare and expensive herb -- a mysterious aphrodisiac which only grows on the head of caterpillars in Himalayas. But trade in yarchagumba is funding the Maoist uprising. The best Yarchagumba comes from Dolpa - the poorest region of Nepal, where there are no roads, few jobs - an area dependent on aid. At harvest time, entire villages empty as inhabitants go in search of the herb. "Everybody wants to collect yarchagumba to earn money." But Maoists have taken over the trade and impose their own tax, staving the government of it's income. "We make a lot of money from the yarchagumba tax. It's the main source of income for our party", states Maoist spokesman Comrade Deepak.

In this world of extremes, the Himalayas reveal not only snow-capped mountains and fascinating animals but also a vital lifeline for humanity. This large mountain range spans the borders between Pakistan, India and China and is a part of the greater Himalaya. Although living in the harshest of landscapes, the animals of the Himalayas have provided natural gifts to humanity. From the scent of musk deer impregnating the walls of mosques to the incredible strutting displays of the monal pheasant influencing the rituals of India and Pakistan's border guards, there's much cause for wonder and amazement.

Nepal - Himalaya - Kathmandu
Nepal, officially the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, is a landlocked sovereign state located in South Asia. It is located in the Himalayas and bordered to the north by the People's Republic of China, and to the south, east, and west by the Republic of India. With an area of 147181 square kilometres (56827 sq mi) and a population of approximately 30 million, Nepal is the world's 93rd largest country by land mass and the 41st most populous country. Kathmandu is the nation's capital and the country's largest metropolis. Nepal has a rich geography. The mountainous north has eight of the world's ten tallest mountains, including the highest point on Earth, Mount Everest, called Sagarmatha in Nepali. It contains more than 240 peaks over 20000 ft (6096 m) above sea level. The fertile and humid south is heavily urbanized. By some measures, Hinduism is practised by a larger majority of people in Nepal than in any other nation. Buddhism, though a minority faith in the country, is linked historically with Nepal. Many Nepali do not distinguish between Hinduism and Buddhism and follow both religious traditions. There are 3 different buddhist traditions: Himalayan Buddhism, Buddhism of Kathmandu Valley (mostly Mahayana and Vajrayana), and also the Theravada Buddhism. A monarchy throughout most of its history, Nepal was ruled by the Shah dynasty of kings from 1768, when Prithvi Narayan Shah unified its many small kingdoms. However, a decade-long Civil War by the Communist Party of ...

Once a normal, outgoing boy, Siddharth is transformed by the tragedy into an introverted child of a few words. While awaiting and praying for his fathers recovery, Siddharth is forced to live with his uncle. Continuing the inexplicable downward spiral of his life, young Siddharth is subjected to abuse from his aunt. The only bright spot in his life is the warmth he receives from his cousin, Druki. Despite the sad circumstances that have caused it, she is delighted to have Siddharth living in her home and existing in her life. One evening, as she is preparing for bed, Druki asks her mother about the death of Siddharth mother. Searching for words to give peace to her daughter, the woman tells Druki that God took Siddharths mother away because he loved her so much. Atacama Starry Nights: Episode I
Make sure to watch this full-screen with the sound on! Featured on the National Geographic News: http://newswatch.nationalgeographic.com/2012/02/21/new-time-lapse-gives-rare-glimpse-at-atacamas-starry-nights/
Astronomer's Paradise is the first episode of Atacama Starry Nights timelapse movie series. Cerro Paranal is truly an astronomers paradise with its stunningly dark, steady and transparent sky. Located in the barren Atacama Desert of Chile it is home to some of the world's leading telescopes. Operated by the European Southern Observatory (www.eso.org) the Very Large Telescope (VLT) is located on Paranal, composed of four 8 m telescopes which can combine their light to make a giant telescope by interferometry. Four smaller auxiliary telescopes, each 1.8 m in aperture, are important elements of the VLT interferometer.
Walking on the desert near Paranal between the scattered stones and boulders on the pale red dust feels like being on Mars but under the Earth sky. It is an amazing experience to be under an ideal night sky, a pure natural beauty unspoiled by urban lights. On Cerro Paranal in the Atacama Desert you look all around the horizon and there is no prominent sign of city lights, neither direct lights or light domes. There are not many locations left on this planet where you can still experience a dark sky like this. I have been to similar dark skies in other continents from the heart of Sahara in Algeria to Himalayas or islands in the Pacific. But what makes Atacama beat others is being dry and clear for so many nights per year. Paranal was selected for cutting edge astronomical observations also because of the sky transparency and steady atmospheric condition which let astronomers peer in to tiny details in the deep cosmos using giant telescopes.
This footage is made during an imaging expedition to Paranal assigned by the European Southern Observatory (ESO). Wait For Me (3 Minute Documentary)
A Cinelan Film: http://www.cinelan.com/
From Ross Kauffman—the Academy Award winning Director of "Born Into Brothels."
In 1985, a young man from a well-to-do family took a bicycle trip across southern Europe, wandered into Bangladesh, traveled through India, and vanished while hiking in the rugged foothills of the Himalayas. He was never seen or heard from again.
"Wait For Me" is the story of a mother’s spiritual and emotional search for her son—a ceaseless emotional trek, propelled by an unconditional love and an unwavering belief that he may still be alive.
This is a three minute piece but a much longer version is in production. More info @:

The Himalayas HD
Please visit my website: www.climate-change-guide.com The Himalayas in HD (Soundtrack Himalayan Echos by Jeff van Dyck) From Wikipedia; The Himalaya Range or Himalaya Mountains, usually called the Himalayas or Himalaya for short, is a mountain range in Asia, separating the Indian subcontinent from the Tibetan Plateau. By extension, it is also the name of a massive mountain system that includes the Karakoram, the Hindu Kush, and other, lesser, ranges that extend out from the Pamir Knot. Together, the Himalayan mountain system is the planet's highest, and home to the world's highest peaks, the Eight-thousanders, which include Mount Everest and K2. To comprehend the enormous scale of this mountain range, consider that Aconcagua, in the Andes, at 6962 metres (22841 ft) is the highest peak outside Asia, whereas the Himalayan system includes over 100 mountains exceeding 7200 m (23600 ft). The main Himalayan range runs west to east, from the Indus river valley to the Brahmaputra river valley, forming an arc 2400 km (1500 mi) long, which varies in width from 400 km (250 mi) in the western Kashmir-Xinjiang region to 150 km (93 mi) in the eastern Tibet-Arunachal Pradesh region. The range consists of three coextensive sub-ranges, with the northernmost, and highest, known as the Great or Inner Himalayas.
