David Paton (born 29 October 1949) is a Scottish bass and guitar player, most notably with three different bands: Pilot, The Alan Parsons Project and Camel. He has also worked as a solo artist, session musician, and sometime vocalist. He wrote and sang on Pilot's two big hits: "January" and "Magic".
Paton was also a member of an early version of the Bay City Rollers.
Paton was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, and grew up in the south-eastern suburb of Gilmerton, where he attended Liberton High School.
In the 1980s, Paton was known for his work with Elton John in studio albums and touring around the world. Other credits include bass guitar and backing vocals for several records by Fish, and several albums by Rick Wakeman in the 1990s. In 1984, he was a member of Keats.
His first solo album was released in 1991, titled Passions Cry, and second album No Ties No Strings was released in 2003. No Ties No Strings was a re-recording of his never released album from 1980.
Paton also appeared solo in the Countdown Spectacular 2 concert series in Australia, between August and September 2007, as a performer and musical director.
David (/ˈdeɪvɪd/; Hebrew: דָּוִד, Modern David, Tiberian Dāwîḏ;ISO 259-3 Dawid; Arabic: داوُد Dāwūd; Syriac: ܕܘܝܕ Dawid; Ancient Greek: Δαυίδ; Latin: Davidus, David; Strong's: Daveed) was, according to the Books of Samuel, the second king of the United Kingdom of Israel, and according to the New Testament, an ancestor of Jesus. His life is conventionally dated to c. 1040 – 970 BCE, his reign over Judah c. 1010–970 BCE.
The Books of Samuel, 1 Kings, and 1 Chronicles are the only Old Testament sources of information on David, although the Tel Dan Stele (dated c. 850–835 BCE) contains the phrase בית דוד (bytdwd), read as "House of David", which many scholars confirm to be a likely plausible match to the existence in the mid-9th century BCE of a Judean royal dynasty called the House of David.
Depicted as a valorous warrior of great renown, and a poet and musician credited for composing much of the psalms contained in the Book of Psalms, King David is widely viewed as a righteous and effective king in battle and civil justice. He is described as a man after God's own heart in 1 Samuel 13:14 and Acts 13:22.
Richard Christopher "Rick" Wakeman (born 18 May 1949) is an English keyboardist, songwriter, television and radio presenter, author, and actor. He is best known for being in the progressive rock band Yes across five tenures between 1971 and 2004 and for his solo albums released in the 1970s.
Born and raised in west London, Wakeman intended on being a concert pianist but quit his studies at the Royal College of Music in 1969 to become a full time session musician. His early sessions included playing on "Space Oddity", among others, for David Bowie and songs by Junior's Eyes, T. Rex, Elton John, and Cat Stevens. Wakeman became a member of Strawbs in 1970 before joining Yes a year later, becoming part of the band's "classic" line-up and playing on some of their most successful and influential albums across two stints until 1980. Wakeman began a solo career during this time, in 1973; his most successful albums are his first three: The Six Wives of Henry VIII, Journey to the Centre of the Earth, and The Myths and Legends of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. He formed his rock band, The English Rock Ensemble, in 1974 which he continues to perform with.
David Paton was lead singer of the 1970s band Pilot, and he wrote their two big hits, "Magic" and "January." They also charted with "Just A Smile" and "Call Me Round" before splitting up later that decade. Since then David has been in demand as a session musician and among his impressive credits he played on several Elton John albums and the worldwide No.1 hit by Kate Bush, "Wuthering Heights." He still gigs now and has a new solo album out called "Under The Sun." He appeared live on Hugh Brown's "Golden Brown" programme on Radio Borders on May 6th 2012 for a chat about the hit days of the 70s, his time in the Bay City Rollers pre-Pilot, his session work and his current career. He also performed the hit song "Just A Smile" in the studio. It's all included here. Enjoy! www.davidpato...

This is a new revised edition of a superb album of 70's pop songs by the band Pilot. The band are remembered mostly for their two melodic masterpieces 'Magic' and 'January', but this album shows that there are many more songwriting gems of equal quality to be discovered in their back catalogue. 'From The Album Of The Same Name' was the first of three long players for EMI and, in my opinion, the only one to have its songs in completely the wrong order. I would argue that this could have seriously diminished its impact at the time it was released; it certainly made a bad first impression on me when I heard it for the first time two years ago. As with my revised version of Genesis' 'Calling All Stations', I have experimented with different track orders, finally settling on the one here. All ...

This little melodic masterpiece is Pilot's final album for EMI (from 1976). It is a quite unique collection of songs that, for me, show the band as leagues above any of their contemporaries in terms of musical ability and creativity. The structure hints at the Beatles' Abbey Road album, and, as an outstandingly talented composer, I think that David Paton is for Scotland what Paul McCartney is for England. This album is criminally underrated. Give it a listen. You won't be disappointed.

As requested by The Elton Bootlegs, my first 2016 upload will be Costa Mesa '86, a show wich himself uploaded on his former channel when he and/or Greg got it on early 2013. This later US 1986 show, recorded at the Costa Mesa Pacific Amphitheatre, is in good audio quality but sadly slighty incomplete (the tape ends during the first chorus of Candle In The Wind, missing the rest of the song along with Daniel and Your Song)! As the usual for the 1986 stuff, Elton's band of that era was awesome (i mention especially David Paton's unique bass playing wich shines on this recording) musically, wich is a good point to start listening to this show. Elton's voice is in decent shape on this show: while weaker than on the previous gig in Oakland overrall, he is still able to go through the songs wit...
