Latin Pronunciation: Classical versus Italian (Carmenta Online Latin School)
www.CarmentaLatin.com Latin Pronunciation: Classical versus Italian This is just one in a series of video blogs from the Carmenta Online Latin Classroom. Please do not hesitate to comment or subscribe, and please pass this page along to anyone you think might be interested. My name is Andrew. I teach Latin online through the Carmenta Online Latin Classroom to students around the world. The Latin classes I teach are completely live, with live audio and video. All students in the class are able to speak live with me and with each other while the class is in session through Skype conference calling, and all students see a live video feed of me, the teacher, as I am teaching the class. The Carmenta course meets three times per week and is a serious course, for serious students who are interested in learning the Latin language. It is equivalent to a good high-school- or college-level course taken in a traditional setting, but it brings with it the flexibility and convenience of the internet. *Please visit my web site. It contains information on the course, my blog on Latin and English topics, and a number of other extras that you hopefully will find interesting. www.CarmentaLatin.com Email Instructor@CarmentaLatin.com

-- All copyrights belong to Electronic Arts. This video has no intention of making money or claiming any form of ownership. -- Yes. I remade all the mentor's/keeper's comments into Lingua Latina ;) Why? Because it sounds great in my opinion. And the game promotes it in a way too (when you use a spell or create an imp or during the initial part of Gregorian choir in intro). Whole game is something like a Medieval fantasy... so why not to go ad extremum? I'm not a voice professional, I just used my skills with sound editing, knowledge of Latin and some home equipment. Anyway, I'm able now to play the game with Latin voice messages instead of those English ones (- the English original was perfect, it was so great *epic* that it inspired me to make a similar version in whatever what sounds same or as good as that....) - so I tried to play few levels like that and it didn't happen that I'd have been confused or so... So who wants to try it out (and educate himself), download and rewrite these files in your DK directory: - Voice stored in "Keeper\sound\speech.dat" asterix.own.cz - Translated menu (so far only menu because I was concentrating on the voice) "Keeper\data\text.dat" dex.wu.cz - And here is the complete transcription of the original English phrases followed by their Latin translations used by me in-game. If you'd find some grammatical mistake, tell me. asterix.own.cz Level intros and outros weren't added because of technical difficulties... Also some thanks to: Jon ...

Title: Asteroid Blues Artist: Tuck.よしひさ (Tuck.Yoshihisa) Circle: SOUND HOLIC Album: SOUND HOLIC MEETS TOHO ~東方的夢天幻奏典~ Original: 車椅子の未来宇宙 (Future Universe of Wheelchair) It's Saturday night, I'm sure most of you guys are tired from the heavy week (especially those with work/school on Saturdays, ie me). So, I hope we can all relax to some Latin jazz and maybe even stargaze, if the sky lets us. If those maracas, the sax and that wonderful guitar solo (which is around 2 minutes long) can't relax you, I don't really know what can. -------- Future Universe of Wheelchair (History of Time): Eternal romance, universe of wheelchair. ...What's the greatest common problem between private Moon Tour and physics? "Yet, the manned Martian probe still hasn't been successful. I wonder if we can witness the universe imagined by Hawking." "But in the end, the problem is that we don't have any physicists that can surpass Hawking. "My, couldn't you do it if you work hard, Renko? You have a rare ability." "My field is a different one. Well, maybe I am as smart as Planck. Plus, I don't think they could observe the black hole evaporation that Hawking predicted. And more, mankind hasn't even gone to Mars." "Oh my, how pessimistic. But if you are saying it, then it must be true." "The amounts of energy needed in order to observe it are enormous. In fact, theoretically, and effectively, observational physics is coming to an end. And by the way, the Moon Tour is too expensive ...

Ecce Hora - Classical Latin in 8 languages [Charmed 6x19]
---- Di! Ecce hora! Uxor mea me necabit! = Gods! Look at the time! My wife will kill me! _________________________ For all lovers of classical latin. This magic spell has occured in episode 6x19 of American fantasy TV series 'Charmed'. It is a Latin spell, so all dubbed versions should copy the style (quite perfect one) in which it was produced in the original English version (since the Latin spell is everywhere preservered and you just need a different voice). But it DID NOT happen so! ----------- Performers of other nation dubbings thought that they could pronounce it in a better way with different stressing-accenting, or even make a better phrase instead of the original one! So watch how people of France, Czech Republic, Germany, Italia, Hungary, Slovakia, Spain and of course USA managed with this wonderful Latin phrase!

Disney Pixar's Brave - Volabo (Touch the Sky - CLASSICAL LATIN)
'Touch the Sky' from Disney Pixar's 'Brave', in Classical Latin. Lyrics & English translation in subtitles; French, Italian, Greek translations in description 'Brave' and its music are copyright Disney Pixar. All rights are reserved. No copyright infringement is intended. This video is for educational and entertainment purposes only. I've attempted to imitate the style of Vergil, whose last work, the 'Aeneid', was the national epic of Rome. The 'aquila' (eagle) was the symbol of the Roman army. Jupiter, king of the gods, can personify the sky in Latin poetry. The 'Golden Age' refers to the world as it was ruled by Saturn, father of Jupiter; the Emperor Augustus (who commissioned the 'Aeneid') was hailed as restoring the Golden Age and extending the Roman Empire beyond the stars. The word I have used for 'fate' can also mean 'lot'. Some Roman elections were conducted by lot, a process by which names were shaken out of an urn; in the Underworld, souls' fates were decided by the same method. Hence 'I will seize my fate from the urn' is intended to mean 'I will choose my fate myself'. NOW ALSO IN GREEK with lyrics inspired by the Aeneid's epic predecessors, the Iliad & Odyssey :D - www.youtube.com Latin: cum spirent venti hiemales et subridat Iuppiter en carmen ortum ex monte me in lucem seducet qua caelo volabo usque ad astra per ventos en immo, super astra volabo silva fatale ubi procellae supra montes saeviunt atra stagna mihi memorant fuisse saeculum aureum ut in fabulis ...

Tarzan - Filius hominis / Son of Man - CLASSICAL LATIN (Italian & English subtitles)
'Son of Man' from Disney's 'Tarzan' in Latin with Italian & English subtitles. Disclaimer: I OWN NOTHING. Tarzan and all related media are copyright Disney. This is for educational and entertainment purposes only. No copyright infringement intended. This song is translated from the Italian version, because I find that the sentiment behind it is very Roman. The relationship between father and son was very important in Rome and the Italian version emphasises it ('son of a father' rather than 'son of man'). The music is from the Broadway version because I couldn't make the voice of Phil Collins soft enough without ruining the background music, then I discovered the Broadway version, which keeps the harmony and the poppy feel. It is sung by the character of Terk, who's male in ...

Classical Education - Why Latin?

Why Do Classical Education Proponents Insist on Teaching Latin? Messiah Lutheran Classical Academy Keller, Texas 76248. In a previous video we learned "What is Classical Education?", as seen from a parents perspective. This revealed what the value of classical education is, what it consists of, and why a classical curriculum is being embraced by so many Christian schools and other private educational organizations, including Messiah Lutheran Classical Academy in Keller, Texas. We learned about the trivium, logic & rhetoric, and many other facets of classical studies. We found that these more traditional subjects build skills that are no longer being taught in our modern schools. Here we will be dealing with a subject that lies at the core of classical education - Latin grammar. The study of Latin is indeed considered one of the great advantages of a Classical Education. It is a core subject in the Classical Education curriculum. Why do these educators insist on Latin? What is so important about a "dead language"? Thinking of Latin as only a dead language, one that is not spoken today, does not do this fundamental language justice. True, it is not spoken today, but it is the root of many languages. Understanding Latin helps understand other languages as well as our own. Latin is even the root of about 50% of our own English language. A student that is well grounded in Latin will have a superior vocabulary and will have a better understanding of what a word really means. A ...

Tridentine Latin Mass: Last Sunday after Pentecost (1/8)
[Part 1 of 8] Missa Cantata, or sung Low Mass, offered on the Last Sunday after Pentecost at the Roman Catholic Parish of St. Nicholas of Chardonnet in Paris, France. This is the Eucharistic liturgy of the Roman Rite of the Catholic Church celebrated according to the 1962 Roman Missal (Missale Romanum), also commonly referred to as the Tridentine Rite, or Tridentine Mass, or Tridentine Latin Mass, or Old Latin Mass, or classical Latin Mass, or Traditional Latin Mass (TLM). This same Mass may be viewed or downloaded on Google as one full-length video: video.google.com A "missa cantata" is an approved form of celebration of the Traditional Roman Rite of Mass which serves as a compromise between a Low Mass (which involves no music or incense, by definition) and a Solemn High Mass (which has strict instructions and requirements for celebration that cannot be met in many parishes). For more information, please read this fine article in the 1913 Catholic Encyclopedia: www.newadvent.org The texts of the Latin prayers, and English translations of the same, which are common to every Traditional Latin Mass can be found here: www.sacred-texts.com
