Steve Peat 2009 Downhill World Champion!
FINALLY THE BRIDE, PEATY WINS THE BIG ONE, MINNAAR HIS BRIDESMAID.
Sept. 8, 2009 - Canberra, Australia
Finally in the record books, Santa Cruz Syndicate’s Steve Peat (SRAM/RockShox), makes history as he bags the big one winning the UCI Downhill World Championships in Canberra, Australia. Syndicate’s Greg Minnaar finishes a mere .05 behind Peat in the closest margin in World Championship history, and Mick Hannah takes the last medal just .69 behind Peat.
I’ve just finished dropping off the rental van and riding my bike home from Avis in Temecula, which concludes the last ground logistics from the Syndicate’s World Champs trip. I can now start on this press release and I just thought I’d write it from my point of view. There will be plenty of releases with the standard interviews, so I’ll give you my take on the lead up to the World Champs and how we got there.
Riding home today across the meadow with the wind blowing through the tall grass reminded me of how we started the season on safari in South Africa which resembled the open meadow I just rode across. The season was wide open then and full of promise, and now we are writing the final chapters to the 2009 downhill race season with most of the promise realized.
As I pedaled my jet-lagged legs up the single-track I thought what makes this world champs win so special is the emotion. At the end of the day it is just a bike race, someone rode their bike fast down a hill and was faster than the others. That is just a fact. But what makes it so special is that the man who did it has had a 15 year career of winning every race but the world championships, and to finally do so, on his terms, makes it gratifying for every fan, sponsor, support crew, and every family member involved, or who has ever been involved in Steve’s career. These people make up the building blocks of the foundation on which Steve can excel, and every sacrifice Steve has made, his family has made, every effort his support team put into him, it was a payday; one whopping huge payday of relief, respect, excitement and satisfaction for a job well done. With tears flowing, a choked up Steve said, “This is the way I wanted to win it, with all the top guys having their best race, no mechanicals, no crashes, totally legit. It is going to take some time for this to sink in.”
The road to Canberra started with the 6:00 am arrival of the Syndicate into Sydney a week and a half before the race to acclimate to the time zone. First stop, Bondi Beach for breakfast on a fine spring day. Doug was the only brave soul to take a dip while the others enjoyed some Frisbee on the fine sand beach. Checking into the Holiday Inn within view of the Sydney Harbor Bridge and Sydney Opera House young Bryce and I took a dip in the rooftop pool. Paul Begg was meeting us later to show us the hotspots, but the boys needed fancy shoes to get in the clubs so shopping we went. Minnaar tested his shoes out doing his version of the moonwalk while Josh picked out a pair of very pointed shoes, and Steve pimped himself out in a slick version of slip-ons.
Hitting the rooftop for evening cocktails we were treated to a bat show, thousands and thousands of bats were flying past us coming from the Botanical Gardens on their way to find a nice evening meal. Ben Monroe picked us up and whisked us off to the most amazing Thai dinner we’ve ever had. Meanwhile the UK mechanics arrived and joined us for the rest of the evening’s entertainment. A few of us got some sleep, but some were in the hot-tub rooftop at 6:00 am soaking in the sunrise.
Lunchtime we hit Deus, a vintage and custom motorcycle shop and café that is a must stop for anyone passing through Sydney. After lunch we made the hour and a half drive to Wentworth Falls in the Blue Mountains for four nights of rest, relaxation and some training rides. I made sure the boys were eating well and we had some great meals, the standout item being the Sweet Potato Soup recipe that Steve gave me.
Scott Sharples and Bryn Atkinson live nearby, and Brian Lopes flew in and we had a neighborhood full of talent. Some went golfing and hiking, and some of us went to the movies and saw Inglorious Basterds (a must-see movie). We had a fun rental car and cruised the small main street of Katoomba. Arriving back to the rental house the boys treated the front garden to a trim, well, tore it up in the name of fun, and lucky for us Paul’s brother Michael (the home-owner), took it all in stride and had a laugh with us:
Sadly, Greg received the news that his beloved Grandmother had fallen ill and had be admitted to the hospital. By evening she had slipped into a coma. I worked on flight details to send him home, but by the next morning she had passed. It was a difficult time, a time where this incredible job we have takes a toll, to miss the things in your personal life, and to be a world away when they happen is a downside to the wonderful experiences we do hav

LYRICS:
Alright ch'all! We already told you bout ghost ridin the whip, now about to teach you how to ghost whip the ride! Vibe with me y'all.
The best thing you've never seen before
It's the Invisible Ride, It's the Invisible Ride (where'd your ride ride off to)
Giddy-up and ghost whip the floor
It's the Invisible Ride, It's the Invisible Ride (where'd your ride ride off to)
Picture me rollin in my 500 candy top
Ghost whippin so hard, make ya panties drop
Cuz my ride - it's invisible baby
Like this hotty ridin' shotty - an invisible lady
My ride's invisible, I gotta keep it clean
I ain't ridin' dirty, I gotta be seen
Make it bling while I sing
in the wash
Make it bling til while I eat the
hell outta this gnosh
Scrub that body girl, go!, scrub that body girl, yeah!
Scrub that body girl, oh!, scrub that body girl, yeah!
Car so clean lookin’ like a museum
Rims spinnin’ so fast that you can’t see ‘em
Wom-en on the glass, straight naughty wet tee-in'
The body of a clean European
I got a sunroof, and a sun floor
and a sun hood, and a sun door
Hey! Check beneath the front seat axel, bro
yo! from my camel toe
Go slow when I ghost whip, like my gramps
No blind spots, switch lanes like a champ
Ladies lined up, switch dames like a tramp
Parlay with a leeamp like a peeamp
And in the PM - high beams Lithium
Shine to show the way for ghost whippin with my friiends
I know - it's hard to see what we in
But you can do it too, just drop a squat and put the key in

IBA PIPELINE PRO 2011 - Competition Day Two
IBA Pipeline Pro
North Shore, Oahu, Hawaii
February, 15 - 25, 2011
www.ibaworldtour.com
Friday, February 18th (Pipeline, Oahu, Hawaii): Pipeline’s notorious Backdoor has revealed glimpses of its tubular best with some high-scoring barrel rides going down on Day 2 of the opening 2011 IBA World Tour event in Hawaii.
The day’s best wave belonged to visiting Aussie rider, Tom Rigby (AUS), who was awarded a near perfect 9.9 out of a possible perfect 10 for a long disappearing act in Round 4.
The score saw Rigby advance easily into Round 5 along with French rider Julien Miremont (FRA) and caused the elimination of local Hawaiians Will Petrovic (Haw) and Trevor Kam (Haw).
Tim Hamilton (Kauai, Haw) was another big-scorer, locking in a 9.0 ride to cause the shock elimination of two Pipeline Pro standouts, Andrew Lester(AUS) and Chris Won (Haw).
Lester, who won the event aged 20 in 2000, and Won, a regular in the local line-up, were bundled out unceremoniously in equal 65th and equal 73rd respectively.
Comeback King, Brian Wise (Haw), continued on his rampage, registering an
8.5 high ride for a nice Backdoor drain-pipe which saw him advance into Round 5 behind local Keahi Parker (Haw).
Wise has not competed in three years and in that time suffered back, neck and femur injuries in a serious car accident. A new outlook, a fiancé and determination to succeed have reversed his fortunes and his success through four rounds has firmed him as a sentimental favourite heading into the last day.
“It’s about perseverance and staying alive and getting through this contest, I got stuck in a couple, I made one … I got a nice long ride, it opened up and it just barrelled the whole way. I’ve had a couple close ones, but I’m hanging in there, and keeping the dream alive and just doing what needs to be done. Every heat is a step closer,” said Wise.
Australian, Mitch Rawlins (Gold Coast, AUS), revered as the most exciting young performer on the world stage, made his first appearance in the IBA Pipeline Pro in Round 5 and wasted no time in going for the big moves.
The 27 year-old blasted into a looping reverse and stuck some critical rolls over the shallow reef to secure his place in Round 6 behind early standout Sacha Specker (ZAF) of South Africa.
“It was my first heat in a while and the first heat of the year so it was pretty nerve wracking, but it was good to shake off the cobwebs. Being in a heat intensifies everything, I haven’t been in a contest in a few months now, you’d think it’s only 20 minutes so you say to yourself ‘I’ll just cruise through it’, but it’s a real work out.
To get through a heat at any time is satisfying. Now I’m on into the next round, so looking forward to that,” said Rawlins.
Pipe specialist and former runner-up, Spencer Skipper (Haw) was another to hit the water today. Skipper advanced to the last day behind Julien Miremont (FRA) of France.
The Women’s Division was completed in deteriorating conditions, but it did not dampen the determination of a tough field. Brazilian duo, six-time champion Steph Pettersen (rep. AUS) entered the final as firm favourite alongside former champ, Neymara Carvalho (BRA).
The deciding moment occurred midway through the final when Pettersen eyed-up a Backdoor right hander, decided not to go and Carvalho pounced – the score was one of the highest in the clash.
Friends chaired Carvalho from the water’s edge before she was presented with her second, first-place IBA Pipeline trophy.
All the action from the final day of the IBA Pipeline Pro will be available for viewing via the LIVE webcast at www.ibaworldtour.com. It is the most ambitious ever undertaken by the IBA with multi-camera angles and replays.
Hawaiian fans can see the action via Oceanic Cable channel 16 (OC 16,
Hawaii) and FUEL TV will broadcast finals action in Australia. Viewers should check their local listings for times.

rFactor - Champ Car 2006 - Mount Panorama, Bathurst
A clip of some action from my Champ Car All Star season race at Bathurst. It's me playing against the AI, which I modified specific talent files to drive like the best from Champ Car's history. With some help from painters on rfactorcentral, I made myself a pretty epic season. At the beginning of the clip, it's Nigel Mansell in front, followed by myself, then Dario Franchitti and Alex Zanardi. Fun times. Sorry for the weird editing in spots. I'm still getting the hang of making videos from the game. Random mouse pointer is probably the funniest error. For anyone wondering, my best lap around here was a 1:40.04, which I hit during qualifying. I do use a couple driving aids, all set to low. But I also race with a joystick from the 90's, so I think it evens out. I simply can't say enough about this course. Just balls to the wall, especially in an open wheel car like this. Going down the Mountain especially. If you don't hit your marks, bad things happen.

ChampCar 2012 - GCZ - Gamercommunity Zürich - first run 04/13/2012 2
Soon,we will take our beloved cars back out of the garage. Since we have become tired of driving F1 tracks, we had to look around for new solutions. So this year we are about to drive on original Champ Car tracks. This will increase difficulty and ensures high tension races. The race distance is also slightly increased, about 80 minutes per race. The season includes 12 tracks,it starts at the 04/13/2012 in Monterey/Mexico and ends at the 11/04/2012 in Surfers Paradise, Australia. The mod, as well as tyre wear and fuel consumption will remain the same as in the previous season and the weather forecast service will also be active. Gentlemen, start your engines
