James Morrison Ft. Nelly Furtado - Broken Strings
"Broken Strings" is the third single by James Morrison from his second studio album Songs for You, Truths for Me. It was released on 8 December 2008. The song is a duet with Canadian pop/R&B; singer-songwriter Nelly Furtado. The single became Morrison's most successful single to date, peaking in the top ten on many European charts, in the top three in the UK and Ireland and topped the charts in Germany and Switzerland. It is also Furtado's best-selling in the UK.
A music video in support of James Morrison's "Broken Strings" has made its world premiere on 17 November. The video features the English musician performing the new track with Nelly Furtado also appearing in the video. Micah Meisner directed the video. Parts of the video are inspired by the film "Paris, Texas", while the reversed explosion is inspired by the film "Insignificance". Nelly and James filmed their parts on different days. On the video, James is in a hotel room and Nelly is behind the glass of the room, James starts to sing the song and when Nelly starts to sing her part, behind the glass, things begin to break, such as the guitar, the television and more. When the video is ending, everything that is broken goes back to normal and Nelly disappears.

Arthur Fiedler & The Boston Pops Album #9 (Fantastic 1950s & 1960s Music)
"Moon River" is a song composed by Johnny Mercer (lyrics) and Henry Mancini (music) in 1961, for whom it won that year's Academy Award for Best Original Song. It was originally sung in the movie Breakfast at Tiffany's by Audrey Hepburn, although it has been covered by many other artists. The song also won the 1962 Grammy Award for Record of the Year.
It became the theme song for Andy Williams, who first recorded it in 1961 and performed it at the Academy Awards ceremonies in 1962. He sang the first eight bars at the beginning of his television show and also named his production company and venue in Branson, Missouri after it. Williams' version was disliked by Cadence Records president Archie Bleyer, who believed it had little or no appeal to teenagers.[citation needed] Andy Williams' version never charted, except as an LP track, which he recorded for Columbia in a hit album of 1962.
The success of the song was responsible for re-launching Mercer's career as a songwriter, which had stalled in the mid-1950s because rock and roll replaced jazz standards as the popular music of the time. An inlet near Savannah, Georgia, Johnny Mercer's hometown, was named Moon River in honor of him and this song. The popularity of the song is such that it has been used as a test sample in a study on people's memories of popular songs.

Lyrics:
1) Take my hand
I'm a stranger in paradise
All lost in a wonderland
A stranger in paradise
If I stand starry-eyed
That's a danger in paradise
For mortals who stand beside
An angel like you
I saw your face
And I ascended
Out of the commonplace
Into the rare
Somewhere in space
I hang suspended
Until I know
There's a chance that you care
Won't you answer the fervent prayer
Of a stranger in paradise
Don't send me in dark despair
From all that I hunger for
But open your angel's arms
To the stranger in paradise
And tell him
That he need be
A stranger no more!
"Stranger in Paradise" is a popular song from the 1953 musical Kismet and is credited to Robert Wright and George Forrest. Like all the music in that show, the melody was based on music composed by Alexander Borodin, in this case, the "Gliding Dance of the Maidens," from the Polovtsian Dances.
Richard Kiley and Doretta Morrow (Man of La Mancha and The King and I) performed the song in the original cast of Kismet. Vic Damone and Ann Blyth performed the song in the 1955 film.
Bing Crosby versions in 1953.
The most popular version was sung by Tony Bennett (1953), but other versions by The Four Aces and Tony Martin also received popular favor in 1954. Bennett's version reached number one in the UK Singles Chart in May 1955.[1] It was not until 1955 that Kismet, and thus the songs from the show, came to London. It was Bennett's debut hit record in the United Kingdom.
Keely Smith, Ray Conniff, Wes Montgomery, George Shearing, Curtis Counce, Isaac Hayes, Sun Ra, The Supremes (for their album I Hear A Symphony), Sarah Brightman, and Saint Etienne have also recorded cover versions of this standard.
The song was also featured in the video game Jikkyō Oshaberi Parodius for the PlayStation. Not only did it appear as background music in Parodius, it was also featured in Ape Escape 3 on the Saru-Mon's (Immobile) Castle stage.
In the 1999 film, Breakfast of Champions, based on the book of the same name by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr., the song is used as a recurring motif.
It also appeared in an anime, Absolute Boy, as a ringtone.
Violinist André Rieu also made an orchestral cover of this song. It is also used in the rap song Prince Igor by The Rapsody, Warren G and Sissel - Wikipedia

"Laura" is a 1945 popular song composed by David Raksin, with lyrics written by Johnny Mercer from the 1944 movie starring Gene Tierney and Dana Andrews. It has since become a jazz standard with over four hundred known recordings. The best known versions are by Billy Eckstine & Bobby Tucker Quartet, Charlie Parker, J. J. We Have Signal: The Weakerthans
The band was formed in 1997 in Winnipeg, Manitoba by John K. Samson, after he left the punk band Propagandhi to start a publishing company. Samson joined forces with bassist John P. Sutton and drummer Jason Tait, and created The Weakerthans as a vehicle for a more melodic and introspective brand of songwriting than that of Propagandhi. One origin story for the bands name, as quoted in the liner notes of Fallow, is a line from the 1992 film The Lover: ""Go ahead, Im weaker than you can possibly imagine.""The bands name may also refer to a Ralph Chaplin quote from ""Solidarity Forever"": ""What force on Earth can be weaker than the feeble strength of one?"" The band alludes to this line in the song ""Pamphleteer"" from the album Left and Leaving. The Weakerthans, with support from Jim Bryson, at a 2007 concert in Toronto In 2003, the band moved to Epitaph Records and released Reconstruction Site. The album was met with rave reviews from Canadian and international critics for its ambitious combination of punk, rock, folk, country and sonnets. It also became the bands best-selling record to date, as well as its airplay breakthrough on Canadian radio. It was the second Weakerthans album to be produced by Ian Blurton. Sutton, who played on all three of the bands first albums, left in August 2004 and was replaced by Greg Smith. In 2005, Left and Leaving was named one of the ten best Canadian albums of all time in Chart magazines reader poll. In the same poll, Samson wrote the capsule review for another top ten finisher, The Lowest of the Lows Shakespeare My Butt, which he cited as a major influence on his own music. Reunion Tour was released on September 25, 2007 in North America by Epitaph and ANTI-. The band released a video for ""Civil Twilight"", which consisted of a single, unbroken camera shot of the band on a Winnipeg Transit city bus. Epitaph also re-released the Weakerthans first two albums, Fallow and Left and Leaving, in Canada on November 6, 2007.
