New chief justice
A new chief justice of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court should be appointed before the start of the next term in September. So says outgoing Chairman of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States, Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, Dr. Kenny Anthony. The matters relating to the Supreme Court, including the appointment of a chief justice was one of the many items which topped the agenda at the 55TH meeting of the OECS authority in St Vincent and the Grenadines last week. Prime minister Dr. Kenny Anthony in an HTS exclusive says the OECS court of appeal will also be strengthened.

Earth
Time lapse sequences of photographs taken by the crew of expeditions
28 & 29 onboard the International Space Station from August to October,
2011, who to my knowledge shot these pictures at an altitude of around 350 km.
All credit goes to them.
HD, refurbished, smoothed, retimed, denoised, deflickered, cut, etc.
All in all I tried to keep the looks of the material as original as possible,
avoided adjusting the colors and the like, since in my opinion the original
footage itself already has an almost surreal and aestethical visual nature.

Black rhino given new home
The seventh black rhino population established by the WWF Black Rhino Range Expansion Project, was recently released after an epic 1500 kilometre trip across the country. 19 of the critically endangered animals were moved from the Eastern Cape to a new location in Limpopo province.
“This was possible because of the far-sightedness of the Eastern Cape Provincial government who were prepared to become partners in the project for the sake of black rhino conservation in South Africa,” said WWF’s project leader Dr Jacques Flamand. “The operation was difficult due to the number of animals and the long distances involved. But wildlife veterinarians, conservation managers and capture teams from WWF, Eastern Cape Parks and Tourism Agency, SANParks and Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife worked cooperatively to ensure the success of the translocation. We all learned from one another and were united in a common cause.”
“We are a young organisation and this is a great opportunity to be giving something back to the national conservation effort,” said Dave Balfour, conservation director of the Eastern Cape Parks and Tourism Agency. “We are excited about getting ourselves integrated into national conservation. A critical element of future conservation success will be the ability of agencies with a common interest to work together. This was a great example of that."
A relatively new capture technique was used to airlift some of the rhinos out of difficult or inaccessible areas by helicopter. This entails suspending the sleeping rhino by the ankles for a short trip through the air to awaiting vehicles. “Previously rhinos were either transported by lorry over very difficult tracks, or airlifted in a net. This new procedure is gentler on the darted rhino because it shortens the time it has to be kept asleep with drugs, the respiration is not as compromised as it can be in a net and it avoids the need for travel in a crate over terrible tracks,” explains Dr Flamand. “Another advantage is that rhinos can be more easily removed from dangerous situations, for example if they have fallen asleep in a donga or other difficult terrain after being darted. The helicopter translocations usually take less than ten minutes, and the animals suffer no ill effect. All of the veterinarians working on the translocation agreed that this was now the method of choice for the well-being of the animals.”
Security of rhinos is a major concern given the current poaching onslaught. Project partners receiving rhinos on their land are only chosen if their security systems are of a high standard. “Translocating rhinos always involves risk, but we cannot keep all our eggs in one basket. It is essential to manage black rhino populations for maximum growth as it is still a critically endangered species and this is what the project does by creating large new populations which we hope will breed quickly,” concludes Dr Flamand.
The WWF Black Rhino Range Expansion Project aims to increase the range and numbers of black rhino in South Africa and has created seven significant black rhino populations in eight years. Close to 120 black rhino have been translocated to date.

The lighthouse is Hatteras Lighthouse, the tallest in North America.
The light streaks you see in the Milky Way shots are shooting stars, no airplanes this time. Shooting stars & meteors happen all the time all over planet Earth; you can't see them except in the darkest skies. Especially look for them right before dawn (in the film & real life), they seem to increase in frequency at that time.

Follow up to the award winning 'Blokes'. A mixture of hand rotoscoped and 3D elements created in Photoshop, Cinema 4D, After Effects & the odd scrap of paper.
A bit about the poem from Mat Lloyd:
"I wrote the poem on a canvas with a marker pen the morning after I was attacked.
The night before I was in my local park on the opening day of the skate park I'd helped get built, it was nearly midnight. We'd organised a DJ to play the day out in a marquee and I just popped out to take a leak. In my drunken state I was stumbling to find a bush when I heard, and felt, a sort of 'boink' sound. I knew I'd been hit on the back of the head, and I knew it wasn't with a fist. I don't remember much else other than being back at the marquee with a bleeding head.
I was very lucky as a number of my friends and other revelers had spotted me being kicked on the floor and ran over to drag me out. For that I am very grateful.
Living near London, the poem has never been retired and still appears in my performance sets. With youth violence seemingly growing year on year, the poem is as relevant now as it was when I wrote it. People blame hip hop culture, movies, video games, parents, the education system, unemployment, the list goes on. I don't have the answer.
The saddest thing about "2 Inches to the Right" is all to often, someone from the crowd comes to speak to me after I leave the stage and tells me of their friend who died in a similar situation. The poem gives them hope that some may listen, and think twice." - Mat Lloyd
If anyone has any additional platforms this could be broadcast from to reach more people and hopefully make them think twice get in touch mattfrodsham@gmail.com

Launch of Public Dialogue on OECS Economic Union
Dominica has taken the lead and the rest of the OECS are expected to follow soon. Public dialogue on a proposed OECS Economic Union was launched in Roseau on Wednesday April 23rd 2008, at a grand ceremony at State House, the official residence of the President of Dominica. Addresses were delivered by OECS Chairman, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit of Dominica, OECS Director General Dr. Len Ishmael and the Chairman of the OECS Economic Union Task Force and Governor of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank Sir Dwight Venner. Members of the audience then had their turn to direct questions and comments to a panel comprised of members of the Economic Union Task Force (a group set up by OECS Governments to lead the process). This programme brings you some of the highlights of the launching ceremony as captured by the Dominica GIS.

OECS common ID
The Organization of Eastern Caribbean States, OECS will soon introduce a multi purpose Identification System for the region. The OECS secretariat convened a workshop Tuesday to discuss the initiative, which officials say will help increase the level of security in the region and help curb transnational crime. The project follows the advent of the free movement of OECS citizen which came into existence on August the 1st and also comes in light of concerns that the initiative could help increase crime in the region. OECS officials say the Identification System is aimed at limiting these possibilities.
