" The History of Gardening's " jaunty little ditty " Shake me and I giggle " from their 3rd tape release " Duck " from about 1986ishThe History of Gardening was a strange little band from East London. They had a revolving and revolting, constantly changing line up of oiks, spotty Herbert's, vagabonds, itinerants,Zeppelin pilots, visionary seers, reefer mystics and the odd person who could play an instrument. A total lack of any ability didn't hold them back from under achieving in the dark underbelly that was the underground, alternative music scene under the bleak, miserable existence that was Thatchers Britain. From 1984 till the early 90's they inflicted upon culture their strange unholy ditties and bizarre tunes. They played regularly all over London mainly for free and benefits for worthy causes. They were more or less the house band for the Bikers pub The Greyhound in Lea Bridge Rd ( why the bikers put up with them we shall never know ) and played dozens of times at the Ruskin Arms, The Plough and Harrow and The Royal Standard in Walthamstow amongst other dives where the landlords didn't have a strict dress code and no sense of smell. They played often with the old Anarcho Punk band The Assassins of Hope, and later Swine and also members of THOG were also key elements in the unique band Bunty Chunks...but since the only people who will read this are the band themselves this is all rather pointless as you know all that, don't you? The Hidden Face of British Gardening - Sir Roderick Floud
Among the thousands of books and periodicals on gardening, none considers gardening as an economic activity - the labour and time it consumes, the trades that provide for it, the output of flowers and vegetables. Gardening has been big business since the 17th century, but how can we measure its growth and economic importance? Thetranscript and downloadable versions of the lecture are available from the on the Gresham College website: www.gresham.ac.uk Gresham College has been giving free public lectures since 1597. This tradition continues today with all of our five or so public lectures a week being made available for free download from our website. www.gresham.ac.uk

From The History of Gardening's first tape release " Jelly " from 1984. This song plunged the band into deep obscurity where they quite rightly belonged. The Garden of Eatin': A Short History of America's Garden
This animated video is part of the "Eat the View" campaign to turn part of the White House's 18 acre lawn back into an edible landscape. The video tells the story of the "America's Garden" from 1800 when President John Adams planted the first "first vegetables" to feed his own family to the present day. It ends by peeking optimistically into the future when President Obama, seeing how our world is changing, announces plans to replant America's garden, inspiring countless citizens to grow some of their own delicious, healthy, and environmentally responsible food. The "Eat the View" campaign is powered by real people like you. A History of Community Gardens
This is an EcoTipping Point Story: This short documentary is a perfect example of what an EcoTipping Point is and how a single, cultural movement on a very small scale can create a great environmental/cultural movement on a much grander scale. There are many other stories such as this one that demonstrates how it takes just a single individual (like yourself) to begin a simple action that can cascade like a domino effect toward environmental sustainability. Secret Gardens Italy
Secret Gardens Italy hosts historical garden tours of Rome, Lazio and Umbria. These gardens are histories of place, as well as of cultivated nature, some, over thousands of years. We include public and private spaces, indoors and out, which have significant botanical and/or environmental interest, in addition to social or historical importance. Most have a strong relationship to Rome's 3000 years of history. We offer seasonally appropriate tour programs each month, and multiple day programs can be customized. Private tours are also available to suit individual tastes and requirements. Care is taken to balance each day's tour with historical and aesthetic consideration and most tours are appropriate for even the first-time visitor to Italy. Many tours are handicapped accessible and vegetarian choices are always available at all served meals.

Gardening in Hawaii Part 1 of 11
Gardening in Hawaii Part 1 of 11 Gardening in Hawaii; A Conversation with Jon Biloon Join us for a far ranging conversation about organic farming, history of US agricultural practices, and closer to home gardening in Hawaiin soils. Great stuff for history buffs, organic farming devotees (did you know you can water your veggies with ocean water?), and soil (re)building using rock dust. Mahalo to host Barbara Moore of Dragonfly Ranch B&B; located on the Big Island of Hawaii And of course Jon Biloon for sharing his 30+ years of experience with organic farming. Were hoping Jon will return for a video stroll through Dragonfly Ranchs gardens as you can see and hear in this video it was raining too hard to stroll outdoors. Please note: this video is 90 minutes in length broken into 11 parts expressly for YouTube. May all beings be blessed. May great benefit pour forth.

Indoor Poppy Gardening
My video has been blocked due to possible "Copyright violations". I am disputing this. I am using about 10 percent of the instrumental portion of this material, and virtually no lyrics from this music. This video and any audio attached is not for any commercial purpose, but strictly information and humorous opinion. My using 10 to 20 seconds of an old Alan Parsons song is NOT going to have any effect on this material. Having said that..... This is just a brief clip sharing part of my experience with indoor gardening of P.Somniferum. As you can see, it is possible to do, provided you have some space and patience, plus a lot of PATIENCE! I said it twice cause it's true for sure. This was done in the most simple way possible with minimal effort or expense. If you really wanted to dedicate time and spend moderate investment, you could grow several plants, but keep in mind only for your own personal enjoyment of a private hobby. Also, keep in mind that this plant contains dangerous toxic chemicals which are regulated in certain areas, so be CERTAIN that it's legal to grow and/or possess these plants before you try to grow them. Where I live in Eastern Europe, they are legal to grow and possess, and many "babki" use them for various home remedies (though that's likely not technically legal). Czech, Slovak, and Polish cooking is full of recipes using poppy seed! Many Czechs and Slovaks still use "Poppy tea" as an expectorant and home cure, but interestingly they shy away from ...
