Dancing squid bowl dish in Hakodate
8/24/11 - Video and account were down for a while due to a bogus copyright claim. I'm glad it's back up so I can share this weird experience with everyone! A seafood bowl I ate in Hakodate in Hokkaido, Japan. It had salmon roe and seaweed and some other things, with the highlight being the "dancing" squid on top. Dancing squid dishes seem to be at many restaurants in Hakodate, but this particular one may have been the only one with this bowl set. The place was located in the seafood restaurant arcade across the parking lot from Hakodate Station if anyone is interested. Edit: I added some information in a reply comment but it's now buried somewhere. The basic idea behind the sodium in the soy sauce causing the legs to move has been covered in the comments, but there's still some question as to whether or not it's officially "dead" at the time of serving. The brain is probably still in the body, but a significant part of its nervous system, the giant axon, I believe extends into the mantle, which has been cut. I'm not an expert on squids so I can't really come to a definite conclusion about that. As you can see in the beginning, it's not moving at all when it's brought out so I assume that signals around the body have stopped, whereas a fresh intact squid out of water would constantly move around. This doesn't necessarily mean that it's "dead" but it seems to me that it's at least incapacitated. Here's an explanation of a similar occurrence using frog legs: blogs <b>...</b>

What is a Squid / "Squidding"?
My views on a hotly debated topic that we can't seem to agree on. The issue is that there's not a single definition of a squid rider and that we each have our own. This is mine. My personal opinion is that it is reliant on each situation. Feel free to disagree with me in the comments, but keep the discussions constructive and be mindful of others. About the length, I tried to be as precise as possible in expressing my side of the situation. As always, be safe and ride safe. Second channel: www.youtube.com Facebook: www.facebook.com

Giant Squid
March 2006 For centuries, sailors have told tales of sea monsters with massive tentacles. But it was only recently that a giant squid was actually filmed. One man has spent his life tracking the elusive creatures. When his large, powerful yacht slowed to a virtual stop, Olivier de Kersauson knew he had a problem. "I saw two arms, twice the size of my arm, grabbing the rudder." A giant squid had got caught in the propeller. "It had a lot of power and started to shake the boat." It was a sight Dr Steve O'Shea would love to have witnessed. For over 30 years he's been chasing the rare creatures. But recently, he's become aware of a disturbing trend. "Squids are incredibly good barometers of environmental health", he explains. "If I go back 10 years, I had 23 giant squids in one year. Now, because of the intensity of fishing, it's tailed down to one a year." Produced by SBS/Dateline Distributed by Journeyman Pictures

Squid Anatomy
External and internal anatomy of a squid (Loligo sp.). Phylum Mollusca, Class Cephalopoda. Both male and female anatomy are examined. Female digestive, cardio-respiratory etc. organs are the same as in the male, but are not visible due to the large reproductive organs (ovary and nidamental gland) - they are not shown in this clip, but are present. This video was made by the teaching assistant (C. Ernst) for the students of Organisms II at McGill University, but is appropriate for any introductory-level zoology program. Organisms II, 2012

Ducked and Covered: A Survival Guide to the Post Apocalypse
Ducked and Covered: A Survival Guide to the Post Apocalypse is an instructional public information film designed to assist the general population with surviving life in Australia after a nuclear war. Produced by the Australian Board of Civil Defense during the early 1980s, this previously unseen, dusty print was uncovered deep within a university film archive.
Broken into four chapters, the film guides wary survivors through the trials that will await them in the post apocalypse. From post-apocalyptic fashion and unique uses for surplus human skulls, to becoming a local warlord and avoiding radioactive mutants, there is something for all dwellers of the wastelands. With its dry methodical narration, brooding synthesizer, minimalist animation and erroneous guidance, Ducked and Covered is a dark humored parody/loving homage to the late cold war era, early 1980’s public information films, as well as a reminder… OF WHAT STILL COULD BE.

I Love Women | Do What You Love ;)
From my collection of 7946 photos (+3 I found while working on this piece), I went through 12 sorting sessions (multiple hours each!) to select 482 hand-picked images, which were trimmed down to approximately 200 video-perfect shots. Then those 200 photos were re-sized, up-res’d, cropped, and re-touched by hand to get them ready for a 720p HD video which required 32 separate renders in After Effects, assembly in Sony Vegas, and 5 final renders to nit-pick details and put on finishing touches. It made use of 2 songs, 1 script (that went through 6 drafts), and I don’t know how many transitions, all to share ~5:40 of video with you guys.
This all took place in a hurricane of inspiration over a period of 4 days. Many of the shots I don't know the source for (and I spent a while looking)
I feel they're some of the most stunning, beautiful images on the net, and seeing a brief clip of them in a video doesn't really do them justice.
I'd love for you to check out the photographers, models, and websites behind them, and I've credited as many as I'm able.
If anyone can help identify images, I'd love it.
If anyone feels I've used their image in a way they don't support or feel comfortable with, let me know :)
