The Sharks arrived with Richie Gray starting and Danny Cipriani on the bench, but it was Exeter's Samoan winger Josh Tatupu who stole the limelight causing danger every time he got the ball. Exeter came into the game deprived of injured first choice trio Sireli Naqelevuki, Hoani Tui and Haydn Thomas, as well as Argentine winger Gonzalo Camacho who is at the Rugby Championship with the Pumas, but it made no difference. Tatupu, along with Matt Jess and Ignacio Mieres, was sensational for Exeter as they comprehensively outplayed the Sharks. At 6ft 10ins and with his striking blonde hair Gray is a hard man to miss, but Joe Ward did just that with his first three lineouts as the Chiefs edged the set-piece stakes to take the ascendancy early. It took a quarter of an hour for Exeter to turn their dominance into points as Sale were penalised for drifting offside just inside their own half, and Ignacio Mieres punished them, slotting the penalty from nigh on 50 ...

Tries from skipper Jonathan Mills and Ed Jackson helped the Exiles into an early lead and despite Tom Brady's second-half score for the Sharks, Lyn Jones' side hung on to move up to sixth in the table. The defeat means that Sale are still searching for a first success under Bryan Redpath and it was a catastrophic opening half, in which they conceded 23 points, which proved costly. Fresh from their first-ever Aviva Premiership victory over Exeter Chiefs five days ago the Exiles made a fantastic start in Salford. They raced into a 13-0 lead after just eight minutes courtesy of two penalties from fly-half Gordon Ross, either side of a try from captain Mills. The try came as Welsh moved the ball well from a line out in Sale's 22. The home side held up the visitors just short of their goal line but couldn't hold out as Mills crossed to the right of the posts and Ross added the conversion. Sale had the chance to claw back some points straight away but Danny Cipriani's penalty was wayward. As both sides struggled ...

Sale Sharks 30 v 29 London Irish - Aviva Premiership Rugby Highlights Round 2 | 09-09-11
Sale slip past London Irish for win Sale bounced back from their opening-day Aviva Premiership defeat at Worcester to ignite their campaign with a hard-fought win and condemn London Irish to a second consecutive loss. The Sharks edged an absorbing encounter which saw them claim two first-half tries from Henry Thomas and James Gaskell before scrum-half Dwayne Peel went over for a decisive second-half score. The Exiles, who touched down in the first half through David Paice and Jonathan Joseph, at least went home with a losing bonus point thanks to the expert kicking of full-back Tom Homer, who kicked seven goals from as many attempts. Sale began purposefully and led inside the the fourth minute when Peel's quick pass found Rob Miller advancing forward at pace from full-back inside the left channel. The former Newcastle player showed neat footwork and impressive pace to outstrip a clutch of Irish defenders before finding Thomas in support with a clever inside pass. Thomas burst clear to cross the line and fly-half Nick MacLeod added the extras with a conversion that went over via an upright. Irish came back strongly and a penalty from Homer got them off the mark in the 13th minute. They began to enjoy a period of sustained pressure which culminated in Paice burrowing his way over the line from a line-out in the 21st minute. tags Gloucester Warriors Aviva Premiership Highlights rugby football union league Gloucester Bath London Irish Northampton Harlequins Wasps Exeter Sale ...

Gloucester Rugby 19-24 Sale Sharks - Official Highlights 21-04-12 | Aviva Premiership Rugby
Sharks storm Kingsholm to edge closer to European elite Sale Sharks put one foot in next season's Heineken Cup by posting their tenth Aviva Premiership Rugby victory of the season at Gloucester. Both sides needed to win the crucial match at Kingsholm to stand any chance of finishing sixth in the Aviva Premiership Rugby table and, with it, land a lucrative Heineken Cup spot for next term. But two tries from Sale full-back Rob Miller - along with 14 points from the boot of fly-half Nick Macleod - was enough for them to see off Gloucester, whose points came through a try from wing Charlie Sharples and four penalties and a conversion from number 10 Freddie Burns. As if the European qualification was not enough of an incentive for both teams, the match took on extra significance after Gloucester head coach Bryan Redpath surprisingly resigned in midweek. He is rumoured to be heading to Sale but Kingsholm director Ryan Walkinshaw has threatened a "no holds barred legal attack" if he discovers the Cheshire club "manufactured" a move for the former Scotland scrum-half. And the tension of the match spilled over within minutes of kick-off as home wing James Simpson-Daniel was bumped into touch metres from the Sale line, prompting a mass brawl to break out on the touchline. That ended with Gloucester flanker Akapusi Qera and Miller getting 10 minutes in the sin-bin. The lively start did not end there as both Burns and Macleod got their accounts off the mark with a penalty each, and ...

Sale Sharks 16-9 Bath Rugby - Official Highlights 13-04-12 | Aviva Premiership Rugby
Miller's late try seals Sharks win Rob Miller's try eight minutes from full-time sealed a dramatic 16-9 triumph over Bath to boost Sale Sharks' chances of qualifying for the Heineken Cup. Although both teams looked to move the ball wide, two Nick Macleod penalties to Olly Barkley's one was all they had to show for their first half efforts, as the Sharks led 6-3 at the interval. The two kickers then traded three-pointers in the second period before Barkley levelled the scores. But, in front of England head coach Stuart Lancaster, it was left to Miller to touch down late on and move the Sharks up to sixth in the Aviva Premiership Rugby table. Both clubs have endured tumultuous times recently. In the aftermath of their 45-9 humiliation to Saracens three weeks ago, Sale head coach Tony Hanks was the one who paid the price for their failings. Meanwhile, their opposition in tonight's encounter have confirmed the departures of director of rugby Sir Ian McGeechan and first team coach Martin Haag at the end of the season. It was the visitors who reacted the most positively to their recent travails. They dominated the opening exchanges and were unfortunate to see fly-half Tom Heathcote's attempted kick slip wide of the upright. However, with their first opportunity to strike, the Sharks almost forced their way over the line. Cillian Willis, on for the injured Dwayne Peel, Macleod and Sam Tuitupou all made bursts, but the move was ended when a penalty was awarded against the ...

London Wasps 18 - 29 Sale Sharks - Aviva Premiership Rugby Highlights Round 2 | 17-09-11
Wasps succumb to Sale Close-season signing Fraser McKenzie opened his scoring account as Sale handed Wasps their first defeat of the Aviva Premiership season. Share The 23-year-old former Scotland Under-19 captain - signed from Edinburgh - sparked a fine recovery by the Sharks, who dominated for long spells to turn the match around after trailing 10-3 after 14 minutes. Sale's other try came from skipper David Seymour with 19 points from the boot of fly-half Nick Macleod, relishing the role of front-line kicker following Charlie Hodgson's move to Saracens. Macleod took his points tally for the campaign to 41 from three matches with five penalties and two conversions as Sale notched their second victory of the season. Former Sale centre Chris Bell and fly-half Ryan Davis scored the Wasps tries, with Davis adding a conversion and two penalties. Macleod kicked Sale into a third-minute lead after Wasps were caught offside but the hosts responded five minutes later with an excellent try. Full-back Richard Haughton, making his first start of the season, provided the springboard for a four-man move, fielding a kick just inside his own half and bursting through a gap in the Sale midfield. He found England Under-20 flanker Joe Launchbury up in support before Wasps' two ex-Sale centres provided the finish, Chris Mayor producing the final pass for Bell's touchdown. Davis converted and stretched the lead to 10-3 with a 14th-minute penalty which went in off the far post. Macleod was ...

Sale Sharks 10 v 24 Harlequins | Official Highlights | 05/05/12
Harlequins secured top spot in the Aviva Premiership Rugby table with a 24-10 triumph over Sale in the Sharks' last ever game at Edgeley Park. England internationals Danny Care and Mike Brown went over in the first half as Quins established a 15-3 advantage at the interval, with Nick Evans adding a conversion and a penalty. Tommy Bell responded for Sale with a penalty before two second half Evans' three-pointers extended the visitors' advantage. Will Addison crossed for the Sharks to give them hope, but a further kick from the tee sealed the win for Harlequins and a home semi-final in the play-offs. Despite it being their final game before moving to the Salford City Stadium and Heineken Cup rugby not technically assured, Sale started the brighter. In their own half, the Sharks attacked the blindside through Luther Burrell whose exquisite off-load put Mark Cueto in space. Cueto's grubber through was collected by Addison who touched down, but the try was disallowed for a push on Quins' full-back Brown. Although the home side played with verve early on, their inexperienced set-piece struggled. The pressure told and they were duly punished at the scrum, but Evans failed to convert the resultant penalty opportunity. It was Sale who were next to attack as once again they ran from deep. Good interplay between Dave Seymour and Lee Imiolek sent Tom Brady clear before the winger was held up by some impressive visiting defence. And the failure to take their chances cost them dear ...

Sale Sharks 29-21 Northampton Saints - Aviva Premiership Rugby Highlights Round 4 | 23-09-11
Sale Sharks 29-21 Northampton Saints Sale secure win against Saints with storming second-half Sale ran in three second-half tries from Mark Easter, Dwayne Peel and David Seymour as they overcame Northampton to claim their third straight Aviva Premiership victory. Share The visitors had forwards Calum Clark and Phil Dowson sin-binned midway through the second half and Sale took advantage by overpowering Jim Mallinder's men. All Northampton's points came from the boot of fly-half Stephen Myler, but it was not enough to prevent a third straight defeat. Myler and opposite number Nick MacLeod both missed penalties during the early exchanges before Myler made it second time lucky with an eighth-minute penalty to put Saints ahead. Yet the momentum quickly shifted in Sale's favour as they attacked the visitors with aggression and pace. Sharks centre Andrew Higgins embarked on a searing run inside the right channel, driving into the heart of Northampton's 22-metre line before his progress was halted. It was one of several assaults on the Saints defence by the Sale backline but they could not make it pay. Northampton withstood the early pressure and Myler booted his second penalty in the 16th minute to double his side's advantage. He added his third from the halfway line three minutes later before Northampton were again forced to repel an onslaught from the home side, for whom Peel and MacLeod again dovetailed effectively at half-back. Sale's pressure told in the 20th minute when ...
