worry knot?

worry not, otherites! commander other is merely on temporary hiatus while he catches up on things he hasn’t had the time to do, and hobbles around on a pulled left calf from two soccer games ago, and a bruised foot from last night. the joys of aging always make commander other smile.

really.

no, i’m serious.

honestly.

where are my freakin’ ibuprofen….?

really nothing new on the daughter front

i guess things are going okay with The Elder and Unknown. beyond sending my mother some pix from her prom, we’ve not heard anything her. so, we assume that all is well (no news is good news, right?)

i had training today for refereeing in the United Soccer League/Premier Development League (the league which governs our local semi-pro team). #1 Son and i have had a good time refereeing this spring thus far, despite several rain-out dates (the most in Sioux Falls history to date, apparently). it looks like i may be able to use my USL/PDL assignments to finally move up a state-level referee grade. i am still ‘suffering’ from the AYSO transfer of game experience and certification, but that was one thing i neglected to mention in writing about the USYSA conference at the beginning of March: i was able to sit down with the USSF national referee coordinator and explain what happened with my transfer (she balked at my being submitted to USL/PDL last year because i was an unknown). the end result being that there is now a strong likelihood that other AYSO referees who transfer in without AYSO national certification but with several hundred games on record will at least be considered eligible for USSF Grade 7 instead of Grade 8 (the USSF grades descend in precedence), based on training comportment and test scores, instead of forced into Grade 8 no matter what.

why the hell my life is spent helping the folks who come after me, instead of helping myself, i’ll never understand….

the Spouse-Unit and #1 Daughter are up at Big Stone Lake this weekend, and #1 Son and i have basically been left to ourselves. unfortunately, i’m getting responsible in my old age and not just watching sports and drinking beer all afternoon. he has even agreed, amicably no less, to spend some time cleaning up his mess of a room. yeah, we’ll see how long that holds up.

the reason why i’m not posting much (and while more gets posted to the otherwhirled, my throughput is down over there as well) is because i have come to like the wordpress blog system so much, and the overall format to blog design in general, that i am working on completely redesigning shadowmoon.com. we’ll be using a custom template from milo317 and today, i am working on retroactive entries for the main blog there, which will be used to announce engagements, weddings, fine art releases, and the like. the rest of the site will be using standard pages, which are offered in many blog formats, but not often used. milo is working some specialized navigation for that. this is the first time in fourteen years that i’ve handed the site design over to someone else. scary, huh? milo’s work is impressive, however, and i am confident we’ll have a good fit.

lastly, i will be going through this blog and doing some name-removal and slight editing, then getting it registered with some of the national and international social bookmarking systems. while i will continue to have personal stuff interjected here, the focus of this is going to turn to the subjects of raising children outside of the Church in a fairly conservative region, and to the several sides of the adoption process with which i am familiar. relatedly, all the blogs (otherwhirled, synthaetica, and this one) may eventually move to hosting under the new server setup for shadowmoon.com. if that happens, this blog will become dawnne.com, synthaetica will become synthaetica.com, .net, and .org, and i will finally begin moving that domain towards the branding we have long envisioned for digographic products. i’m not sure what of my domains would be appropriate for the otherwhirled, but i’ll figure something out.

all right, enough of all that. get back to your weekends.

it begins already…

today is my first wedding of the season. i’m excited. it’s a cute couple, and i’ve already met a few of the wedding party. a semi-all-day affair, and the bride wants a lot of photographs. exactly my favorite thing to do.

ShadowMoon Weddings

in the meantime, obviously, there won’t be posts here or on the otherwhirled until late tonight. i wasn’t able to make a cache of posts ahead of time, sorry. catch you on the flip-side!

time goes by so quickly

i’m not trying to be reclusive. the “Blog Against Theocracy” endeavor this past weekend went extremely well. my first post, “Why A Theocratic State Isn’t Necessary” (also here on Mock, Paper Scissors) was picked up nationally and included in a couple of compilations. so, in terms of writing, it was nice to get back into that stream of things and be recognized for it. Tengrain at Mock, Paper, Scissors invited all of us who guest-blogged over there to stay on and do so from time to time.

i’m trying to develop a schedule where i can contribute to these endeavors more effectively. i’m really liking the WordPress system—enough so, in fact, that i am already drafting a version of ShadowMoon.com in WordPress, and my ISP is working on getting us setup on a different server. i don’t think i will pull everything over there, but Synthaetic Synapse will probably make one more move and be housed along with ShadowMoon so they can share the same setup data. thanks to the blogswarm and some generous acceptance from several of the mid-tier national blogs, i’m getting enough hits at the Otherwhirled that i don’t think it’d be a good idea to move it. besides, using WordPress’ distributed system is…er…free. so, this and that will probably stay up here, but i will be pointing some domains at them. i have some setup stuff to reconfigure before i can point dawnne.com to this blog, but that is my intention. i’ll have to finally hunt down the few subscriptions and such that i have pointing email to dawnne<at>dawnne.com

#1 Daughter has had a pretty good eighth birthday week, despite the wet, sloppy snow on her birthday yesterday. the family party was over the weekend, and her actual party is this upcoming weekend. it’s nice when we can spread things out for her birthday like that, since her brother-head always gets a longish one up next to Christmas. i’ll try to get some pics up of the present-opening and all that today, but i’ve got quite a few things on my plate this week. it might be (much) later tonight.

thanks to the slush, soccer is once again on hiatus, the timing for which isn’t bad. i have my first wedding of the season this Saturday. never a dull moment.

Synðætik Synapse Revived

no, i’m not suddenly going insane on blogging. i am actually streamlining what was being done under the original incarnation of Synthaetic Synapse, which got so scattered that some found it hard to keep up with, and i found it hard to manage. so, this third blog is exclusively for the fine art stuff. i’ll be releasing new works from there and that kind of thing, and it’ll hopefully delve back into some of the digital artwork as well. it’s being constructed in the third person, in preparation for Nick or anyone else we bring in wanting to also make some use of it. they’ll be allowed to guest blog from time to time and run their own releases—that kind of thing.

it’s linked from the sidebar on the right, but here’s the link.

i have moved

as you may have noticed, i have moved to a new free provider. i will eventually get the wordpress software running on our domains, and even perhaps in the near future—which would allow me to use my own template. i am even contemplating turning the whole website into a blog kind of format. for “hidden light” here in the meantime, though, this place will suffice. i had to redo all the image links, so if you find a broken one, feel free to let me know.

the new url for this blog is dawnne.wordpress.com. please change your bookmarks ~ the new feed is on the bottom right. the old blogger site has already been terminated, but i won’t remove the code from shadowmoon.com for a while yet. i know some of my visitors here are fairly infrequent.

my best to you all, and thanks.

amazed and honored

i have been invited….well….he invited kinda all of us who comment on his blog, and i said i’d love to, then he came back this evening and gave me the formal invite….

to guest-blog on Mock, Paper, Scissors for the Blog Against Theocracy blogswarm this weekend. i am stoked, and honored beyond words. and of course i’m obviously looking forward to it.

i have several posts already in the planning stages. the South Dakota-centric ones will be posted here and on Clean Cut Kid, while the nationally-oriented or just plain generic ones will go over to Mock, Paper, Scissors.

thank you, Tengrain. i’m really looking forward to it, and i hope i won’t embarrass you or anything.

otherworldliness

at the behest of a couple of other people, i have started “the otherwhirled”, which has caused me to note certain deficiencies with this free blogging system. the otherwhirled will be dedicated to my political acerbity, will sometimes contain things cross-posted to Clean Cut Kid, but will largely act as my ranting forum.

because that place is public, i have hidden my name, and unfortunately, that means that posts here will now have the byline “commander other”. o well. a product of getting what one pays for, i suppose.

at any rate, enjoy the otherworld.

{EDIT: i have moved “commander other’s otherworld” over to wordpress. better templates. better services. this one will be moving, too.}
