Hosted by Mike Brown. Singer/Songwriter Phoebe Novak was born in Wiesbadden, Germany, and grew up all over Europe and the US landing in NYC to reach her musical maturity. She paints her influential picture with how honest and integral the music is, instead of whether underground or mainstream, classic or modern. "There is no category of music to me," she says, "except good or bad. Sincere or not sincere." A few prominent influences are Bach, Nirvana, Elliot Smith, Radiohead, Diane Cluck and PJ Harvey. Ten years ago, growing up in NYC, she played alongside the likes of Diane Cluck and Regina Spektor (to whom her style has been assimilated with, having the same dripping nightingale melodies). But what makes Phoebe Novak singularly unique is her frequent interruption of melodies with vocal acrobatics, haunted grit, and screams having a tendency to pierce through the skin. She has performed in countless venues all over New York and DC, including the Velvet Lounge (DC), Bar Matchless (Brooklyn), and Sidewalk Café (East Village).
