East Coast Hip-Hop Vs. West Coast Hip-Hop.
We are comparing both styles without restarting the East Coast West Coast beef
The East Coast–West Coast hip hop rivalry was a feud from 1991 to 1997 between artists and fans of the East Coast hip hop and West Coast hip hop scenes in the United States, especially from 1994 to 1997. Focal points of the feud were East Coast-based rapper The Notorious B.I.G. (and his New York-based label, Bad Boy Records) and West Coast-based rapper Tupac Shakur (and his Los Angeles-based label, Death Row Records), who became symbols of the East Coast/West Coast feud. #hiphopuniverse #hiphopcomparisons
As it was originally known, hip hop was a movement in New York City in the late 1970s and early 1980s. It revolved around four key areas: MCing (now known as rapping), DJing, graffiti art and b-boying (breakdancing).
While all four areas were important, the two that we will focus on are MCing and DJing, as they have the most relevance to both to audio and hip hop.
Hip hop’s roots come from a DJ scratching a record to create a looped beat while an MC raps along to the beat. While much has changed over the years, the essential idea of rapping to a looped beat is still the foundation for most hip hop songs. Many music producers still follow these old techniques, loading up an old soul record and creating a new track.
However, hip hop advanced beyond this in 1983 when Afrika Bambaataa and the Soulsonic Force began using synthesizers and drum machines to create entirely new tracks.
While there is much that took place along with this, and many artists such as Run-DMC, LL Cool J and others helped to define the genre, let’s fast-forward to 1987.
In 1987, in Compton, CA, an important move was taking place. Where previously hip hop had been politically and socially motivated, a new sub-genre was forming: gangsta rap. A group known as N.W.A., consisting of Dr. Dre, MC Ren, Ice Cube and Eazy-E released an album titled “Straight Outta Compton.” Dr. Dre provided the production for the album, consisting almost entirely of rolling basslines and drums.
Straight Outta Compton was a smashing hit. While the group eventually disbanded over financial disputes, N.W.A.’s legacy would help shape the future.
Dr. Dre would later sign with Suge Knight’s Death Row Records, along with an up-and coming rapper named Tupac Shakur, ushering in the era of West Coast Gangsta Rap. Dre remains quite influential in the industry today, widely recognized as a pioneer in hip hop and music production.
Meanwhile, back on the East Coast, a similar movement was happening. Perhaps most notable was Sean “Puffy” Combs’ departure from Uptown Records, taking newly signed rapper The Notorious B.I.G. (Biggie) with him to found Bad Boy Records.
Bad Boy Records was competing with Suge Knight’s West Coast powerhouse D*ath Row Records.
This, while not immediately, would lead to the downfall of gangsta rap as a genre, and move hip hop into the popular music genre where it remains today.
Let’s end the history lesson here. There is much more that could be said, with artists along the way that I have overlooked, but this is just meant to be a brief outline to provide context. Additionally, the closer we move to our present time, the harder it becomes to analyze the music from a historical standpoint.

East Coast of the United States
The East Coast of the United States is the coastline along which the Eastern United States meets the North Atlantic Ocean. This area is also known as the Eastern Seaboard, the Atlantic Coast, and the Atlantic Seaboard. The coastal states that have shoreline on the East Coast are, from north to south, Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida.
Toponymy and composition
The place name East Coast derives from the idea that the contiguous 48 states are defined by two major coastlines, one at the western edge and one on the eastern edge. Other terms for referring to this area include Eastern wikt:Seaboard (seaboard being American English for coast), Atlantic Coast and Atlantic Seaboard (because the coastline lies along the Atlantic Ocean).
The fourteen states that have a shoreline on the East Coast are, from north to south, the U.S. states of Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida.

East Coast (New Zealand electorate)
East Coast is a New Zealand parliamentary electorate, returning one Member of Parliament to the House of Representatives of New Zealand. The electorate first existed from 1871 to 1893, and was recreated in 1999. The current MP for East Coast is Anne Tolley of the National Party, who has held office since 2005.
Population centres
The electorate's main centres are Gisborne (32,529) and Tolaga Bay in the Gisborne Region; and Opotiki and Whakatane (18,800) in the eastern part of the Bay of Plenty Region. Wairoa, the northernmost town in the Hawke's Bay region, was excluded by the 2007 boundary changes.
History
The East Coast electorate was first established for the 5th Parliament in 1871.William Kelly was the first elected representative; he held the seat until the end of the term in 1875.
The "most sensational electoral contest ever held in the East Coast" electorate was held in January 1876, when mysterious pieces of cardboard were distributed by supporters of George Read in Gisborne, which hotel bars accepted as legal tender. Read, George Morris and Kelly received 215, 206 and 185 votes, with another candidate coming a distant fourth. Morris petitioned against Read's election. A parliamentary committee of enquiry determined that Read had not broken any laws by approving the initiative, but the House of Representatives resolved that Read was to be unseated in favour of Morris, which happened later in 1876. This was the last election enquiry held by a parliamentary committee. Subsequently, these enquiries were held by the courts.

The East Coast–West Coast hip hop rivalry was a feud from 1991 to 1997 between artists and fans of the East Coast hip hop and West Coast hip hop scenes in the United States, especially from 1994 to 1997. Focal points of the feud were East Coast-based rapper The Notorious B.I.G. (and his New York-based label, Bad Boy Records) and West Coast-based rapper Tupac Shakur (and his Los Angeles-based label, Death Row Records), who became symbols of the East Coast/West Coast feud. #hiphopuniverse #hiphopcomparisons
As it was originally known, hip hop was a movement in New York City in the late 1970s and early 1980s. It revolved around four key areas: MCing (now known as rapping), DJing, graffiti art and b-boying (breakdancing).
While all four areas were important, the two that we will focus on are MCing and DJing, as they have the most relevance to both to audio and hip hop.
Hip hop’s roots come from a DJ scratching a record to create a looped beat while an MC raps along to the beat. While much has changed over the years, the essential idea of rapping to a looped beat is still the foundation for most hip hop songs. Many music producers still follow these old techniques, loading up an old soul record and creating a new track.
However, hip hop advanced beyond this in 1983 when Afrika Bambaataa and the Soulsonic Force began using synthesizers and drum machines to create entirely new tracks.
While there is much that took place along with this, and many artists such as Run-DMC, LL Cool J and others helped to define the genre, let’s fast-forward to 1987.
In 1987, in Compton, CA, an important move was taking place. Where previously hip hop had been politically and socially motivated, a new sub-genre was forming: gangsta rap. A group known as N.W.A., consisting of Dr. Dre, MC Ren, Ice Cube and Eazy-E released an album titled “Straight Outta Compton.” Dr. Dre provided the production for the album, consisting almost entirely of rolling basslines and drums.
Straight Outta Compton was a smashing hit. While the group eventually disbanded over financial disputes, N.W.A.’s legacy would help shape the future.
Dr. Dre would later sign with Suge Knight’s Death Row Records, along with an up-and coming rapper named Tupac Shakur, ushering in the era of West Coast Gangsta Rap. Dre remains quite influential in the industry today, widely recognized as a pioneer in hip hop and music production.
Meanwhile, back on the East Coast, a similar movement was happening. Perhaps most notable was Sean “Puffy” Combs’ departure from Uptown Records, taking newly signed rapper The Notorious B.I.G. (Biggie) with him to found Bad Boy Records.
Bad Boy Records was competing with Suge Knight’s West Coast powerhouse D*ath Row Records.
This, while not immediately, would lead to the downfall of gangsta rap as a genre, and move hip hop into the popular music genre where it remains today.
Let’s end the history lesson here. There is much more that could be said, with artists along the way that I have overlooked, but this is just meant to be a brief outline to provide context. Additionally, the closer we move to our present time, the harder it becomes to analyze the music from a historical standpoint.

We are guys from the Netherlands who did a roadtrip from New York to Key West - via Nashville, Memphis, New Orleans and more. After a few days in New York, we picked up a rental car, bought a tent and camping gear at the Walmart, and continued inland. Without much planning, we travelled from camping to camping. Alternating between mythical cities and insolent nature, the East Coast of the United States is a cocktail of diverse destinations.
New York, the city that never sleeps: certainly essentials, but it would be a shame to reduce it to a getaway in the Big Apple.
The region has other attractions from Philadelphia to Boston via Washington DC Visiting these metropolises unveils the crucial moments in American history, from the declaration of independence to the Civil War, from the saga Kennedy to the more recent inaugurations of Barack Obama or Donald Trump.
The cultural offerings of Philadelphia and Washington deserve all the superlatives; sur y is one of the finest museums and private collections in the world. Pittsburgh is no exception.
Named the third best world destination in 2015 by Condé Nast Traveler, this city continues to grow and has nothing to envy of its more popular neighbors.
The east coast also appeals to nature lovers. The surroundings of the big cities are grandiose, like the forests of the Shenandoah Valley, near D.C., or the Amish lands of Lancaster County just a stone's throw from Philly. The state of New York, shaded by the city of the same name, is full of waterfalls, vineyards and pretty beaches. Niagara Falls is one of the highlights.
Travelers cannot be encouraged enough to venture into New England with a first stopover on Cape Cod. Its long, wild beaches and lighthouses deserve a visit that will not fail to be coupled with a memorable excursion to the great of the astonishing small town of Provincetown or the island of Nantucket to meet the whales.
And still further north, here we are at the heart of the Appalachian chain, this backbone of the American East.
New Hampshire, Maine and Vermont offer visitors here their natural treasures: White Mountains, Green Mountains and Acadia National Park.

Our East Coast #Vanlife road trip driving from Florida to Canada and back offered the perfect mixture of incredible landscape scenery with beautiful coastline, beaches, salt marshes, grassland, forests, mountains and rugged alpine areas. We absolutely loved this trip and fell in love with the East Coast and all its different areas.
We had a total of 7 months, from May to November to travel which included a 3-month work contract in New York City already set for the Summer, so we placed our itinerary around that. We looked for a variety of activities along the way and since we are more interested in outdoor adventures and art versus historic events and touristy places, we chose our route, areas and cities accordingly.
Since van life is not as popular on the East Coast as it is on the West Coast, it was pretty easy to find overnight parking without any hassle. And there are many 24h fitness studios (that's Planet Fitness for us) where we were able to shower at. Of course, there are also plenty of campgrounds available for those who prefer to stay and shower at campsites or State Parks, as well.
On this road trip we were primarily boondocking (free dry camping) where we slept in our van while being parked in city parking lots, at a friend's driveway, on the side of a street, at trailheads, in forests and anywhere possible on public land. We also stayed at a couple of campgrounds and at several small farms, a winery and a brewery through the Harvest Hosts program which offers overnight stays for RVers and self-contained Vanlifers at over 600 participating farms, wineries, breweries, distilleries, museums for a $79 annual membership fee. During our time in New York City we stayed at an Airbnb for 3 months that offered a lower fee due to renting it for a longer term. We also stayed at a couple of hotels, motels and Inns along the way when we needed a strong internet connection for work or when we needed a hot shower, or when the nights got freezing cold up in the mountains.
These were the highlights, towns and areas we visited on our trip in the order of our route:

-Cedar Island, NC (from there we took the ferry to the outer banks)

The East Coast–West Coast hip hop rivalry was a feud from 1991 to 1997 between artists and fans of the East Coast hip hop and West Coast hip hop scenes in the United States, especially from 1994 to 1997. Focal points of the feud were East Coast-based rapper The Notorious B.I.G. As it was originally known, hip hop was a movement in New York City in the late 1970s and early 1980s. It revolved around four key areas: MCing (now known as rapping), DJing, graffiti art and b-boying (breakdancing).
While all four areas were important, the two that we will focus on are MCing and DJing, as they have the most relevance to both to audio and hip hop.
Hip hop’s roots come from a DJ scratching a record to create a looped beat while an MC raps along to the beat. While much has changed over the years, the essential idea of rapping to a looped beat is still the foundation for most hip hop songs. We are guys from the Netherlands who did a roadtrip from New York to Key West - via Nashville, Memphis, New Orleans and more.
After a few days in New York, we picked up a rental car, bought a tent and camping gear at the Walmart, and continued inland. Without much planning, we travelled from camping to camping. During our trip we did a lot of sight seeing, went fishing and visit a lot of bars and cool places.
In total, we have covered a distance of approx. 7500km in one month.

Alternating between mythical cities and insolent nature, the East Coast of the United States is a cocktail of diverse destinations.
New York, the city that never sleeps: certainly essentials, but it would be a shame to reduce it to a getaway in the Big Apple.
The region has other attractions from Philadelphia to Boston via Washington DC Visiting these metropolises unveils the crucial moments in American history, from the declaration of independence to the Civil War, from the saga Kennedy to the more recent inaugurations of Barack Obama or Donald Trump.
The cultural offerings of Philadelphia and Washington deserve all the superlatives; sur y is one of the finest museums and private collections in the world. Pittsburgh is no exception.
Named the third best world destination in 2015 by Condé Nast Traveler, this city continues to grow and has nothing to envy of its more popular neighbors.
The east coast also appeals to nature lovers. The surroundings of the big cities are grandiose, like the forests of the Shenandoah Valley, near D.C., or the Amish lands of Lancaster County just a stone's throw from Philly. The state of New York, shaded by the city of the same name, is full of waterfalls, vineyards and pretty beaches. Niagara Falls is one of the highlights.
Travelers cannot be encouraged enough to venture into New England with a first stopover on Cape Cod. Its long, wild beaches and lighthouses deserve a visit that will not fail to be coupled with a memorable excursion to the great of the astonishing small town of Provincetown or the island of Nantucket to meet the whales.
And still further north, here we are at the heart of the Appalachian chain, this backbone of the American East.
New Hampshire, Maine and Vermont offer visitors here their natural treasures: White Mountains, Green Mountains and Acadia National Park.
A paradise for hikers, from the bucolic path to the arduous ascent, with, as a reward along the way, splendid panoramas.
It is in the fall that a trip to New England is essential when the forests are adorned with incandescent colors. And who knows, the moose might just give the lucky traveler a bow. And count on the warm welcome of the Americans to make this stay unforgettable!

Our East Coast #Vanlife road trip driving from Florida to Canada and back offered the perfect mixture of incredible landscape scenery with beautiful coastline, beaches, salt marshes, grassland, forests, mountains and rugged alpine areas. We absolutely loved this trip and fell in love with the East Coast and all its different areas.
We had a total of 7 months, from May to November to travel which included a 3-month work contract in New York City already set for the Summer, so we placed our itinerary around that. We looked for a variety of activities along the way and since we are more interested in outdoor adventures and art versus historic events and touristy places, we chose our route, areas and cities accordingly.
Since van life is not as popular on the East Coast as it is on the West Coast, it was pretty easy to find overnight parking without any hassle. And there are many 24h fitness studios (that's Planet Fitness for us) where we were able to shower at. Of course, there are also plenty of campgrounds available for those who prefer to stay and shower at campsites or State Parks, as well.
On this road trip we were primarily boondocking (free dry camping) where we slept in our van while being parked in city parking lots, at a friend's driveway, on the side of a street, at trailheads, in forests and anywhere possible on public land. We also stayed at a couple of campgrounds and at several small farms, a winery and a brewery through the Harvest Hosts program which offers overnight stays for RVers and self-contained Vanlifers at over 600 participating farms, wineries, breweries, distilleries, museums for a $79 annual membership fee. During our time in New York City we stayed at an Airbnb for 3 months that offered a lower fee due to renting it for a longer term. We also stayed at a couple of hotels, motels and Inns along the way when we needed a strong internet connection for work or when we needed a hot shower, or when the nights got freezing cold up in the mountains.

The East Coast–West Coast hip hop rivalry was a feud from 1991 to 1997 between artists and fans of the East Coast hip hop and West Coast hip hop scenes in the United States, especially from 1994 to 1997. Focal points of the feud were East Coast-based rapper The Notorious B.I.G. (and his New York-based label, Bad Boy Records) and West Coast-based rapper Tupac Shakur (and his Los Angeles-based label, Death Row Records), who became symbols of the East Coast/West Coast feud. #hiphopuniverse #hiphopcomparisons
As it was originally known, hip hop was a movement in New York City in the late 1970s and early 1980s. It revolved around four key areas: MCing (now known as rapping), DJing, graffiti art and b-boying (breakdancing).
While all four areas were important, the two that we will focus on are MCing and DJing, as they have the most relevance to both to audio and hip hop.
Hip hop’s roots come from a DJ scratching a record to create a looped beat while an MC raps along to the beat. While much has changed over the years, the essential idea of rapping to a looped beat is still the foundation for most hip hop songs. Many music producers still follow these old techniques, loading up an old soul record and creating a new track.
However, hip hop advanced beyond this in 1983 when Afrika Bambaataa and the Soulsonic Force began using synthesizers and drum machines to create entirely new tracks.
While there is much that took place along with this, and many artists such as Run-DMC, LL Cool J and others helped to define the genre, let’s fast-forward to 1987.
In 1987, in Compton, CA, an important move was taking place. Where previously hip hop had been politically and socially motivated, a new sub-genre was forming: gangsta rap. A group known as N.W.A., consisting of Dr. Dre, MC Ren, Ice Cube and Eazy-E released an album titled “Straight Outta Compton.” Dr. Dre provided the production for the album, consisting almost entirely of rolling basslines and drums.
Straight Outta Compton was a smashing hit. While the group eventually disbanded over financial disputes, N.W.A.’s legacy would help shape the future.
Dr. Dre would later sign with Suge Knight’s Death Row Records, along with an up-and coming rapper named Tupac Shakur, ushering in the era of West Coast Gangsta Rap. Dre remains quite influential in the industry today, widely recognized as a pioneer in hip hop and music production.
Meanwhile, back on the East Coast, a similar movement was happening. Perhaps most notable was Sean “Puffy” Combs’ departure from Uptown Records, taking newly signed rapper The Notorious B.I.G. (Biggie) with him to found Bad Boy Records.
Bad Boy Records was competing with Suge Knight’s West Coast powerhouse D*ath Row Records.
This, while not immediately, would lead to the downfall of gangsta rap as a genre, and move hip hop into the popular music genre where it remains today.
Let’s end the history lesson here. There is much more that could be said, with artists along the way that I have overlooked, but this is just meant to be a brief outline to provide context. Additionally, the closer we move to our present time, the harder it becomes to analyze the music from a historical standpoint.

We are guys from the Netherlands who did a roadtrip from New York to Key West - via Nashville, Memphis, New Orleans and more.
After a few days in New York, we picked up a rental car, bought a tent and camping gear at the Walmart, and continued inland. Without much planning, we travelled from camping to camping. During our trip we did a lot of sight seeing, went fishing and visit a lot of bars and cool places.
In total, we have covered a distance of approx. 7500km in one month.
